    John (the guy in the dark on the right) has been a MUSIC LOVER since he was born. Problem is, he rarely knows or fully grasps the lyrics. Dave (on the left), on the other hand, has never heard or rarely overheard the music John chooses to play him, but tends to take lyrics literally, often to comical ends.
    John remains in the dark both as a wry play on the situation but also because of legal issues causing his attorney to recommend maintaining a low profile.
    We did not write nor do we own the Copyright for the song used in this Educational Video. This is a real, honest reaction to a song Dave have never consciously heard before and/or listened to with intent. Every time I watch these reaction videos I love to see the look on everyone's face while watching this amazing talent named Steve Ray Vaughan who can not be compared to anyone else past or present. Stevie Ray's career was only a 7 year span and in that 7 yrs from his Texas Flood release in 1983 he was inducted into The Austin Music Hall Of Fame, Blues Hall Of Fame, win 6 Grammys, 10 Austin Music Awards, 5 W.C.Handy Awards, Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame until his deathAugust 27,1990 in East Troy Wisconsin at the young age of 35,. Stevie Ray was a master of his craft playing behind his head, one handed, no hands just by moving the guitar up and down, broken string, switched guitar in the middle of a solo, tune his guitar while playing, adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed, even using his elbow but the biggest thing I thought was watching him play Voodoo Child behind his back about 90% of the time in Tennessee and that was insane so that's why IMO Stevie Ray should be #1 on any Guitar God's or Best Guitarist Of All Time list but is always # 7 or so. Stevie Ray has an older brother named Jimmy Vaughan who has a band called The Fabulous Thunderbirds who Stevie Ray always said was the biggest influence in his life along with Albert King was after that he really loved and respected Albert King and Albert King loved Stevie Ray becoming Stevie's Godfather, the love and respect showed in a show they did called In Section. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT.

    We lost him 36 days before his 36th birthday. RIP Stevie, still SO loved and missed. I highly recommend Life Without You live at the Capital Theater - SRV wrote it for his close friend Charlie Wirtz who passed away. Any SRV song is phenomenal but also some blues with his mentors & heroes SRV and Johnny Copeland Live, Tin Pan Alley; SRV with Albert King Born Under A Bad Sign, Blues At Sunrise and Don't Lie To Me...all legendary.

    He didn't unplug his guitar. He had to pop off the shoulder strap and reattach it behind his back. If you think about the mechanics of it, there's no way to transition the guitar to behind your back when it's strapped around your shoulders as normal. So when he finishes, it's only hanging over his left shoulder.

    Great reaction, and I think we have a new SRV fan. In my opinion, this is perhaps the greatest guitar performance ever captured on film. Stevie also was a very kind and humble man. I encourage you to get more acquainted with his music and his personality via the recorded interviews---especially his post addiction years, 1987 to the end of his life in 1990. What a legacy he left!

    The man never played it the same way twice!!!! Every night he had a different feeling on how to perform tunes and his mood that day/night steered him in a certain direction and that’s what you got as an audience member from the GOAT!!!!! Been there done that watching him dozens of times!!!!! Pure talent and emotions!!!! Just an unbelievable performer and Double Trouble ruled as his band!!!! So talented!!!!! As BB King said in amazement after playing with him once (BB was a great influence on Stevie when he was growing up and definitely wasn’t a slouch on playing Blues), we blues guitarist play in sentences and Stevie plays the in paragraphs!!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!!! 😎🍸

    The 1978 Flood in the hill country of Texas saw 28" of rain fall in 24 hours over the headwaters of the Medina, Guadalupe, Nueces, Sabinal, Frio and Llano rivers just north west and west of Kerrville. National Guardsmen rescued Miss USA out of a tree on the Medina River near Bandera. He created a fundraiser for the victims and thus, Texas Flood.

    Welcome to the wonderful world of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble! I was blessed to have spent a little time with him from 1987 until his passing in 1990. I can tell you that he was as kind and humble as he was talented. That concert was 1983. I’d love to see your reaction to more of his music. There are so many incredible songs, but I’ll mention a few. “Tin Pan Alley” featuring Johnny Copeland, “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” “Voodoo Chile,” and “Couldn’t Stand the Weather” from Austin, 1989, “Life Without You” from The Capital Theater, and “Lenny” from El Macombo. Everyone compared him to Jimi Hendrix..He does do the best version of Voodoo Chile , and any other Hendrix songs. His own catalog of music is is quite extensive for the short career he had. His live performances always kickass .I have a CD. Of his last performance at Alpine. Valley,East Troy Wisconsin. It is a soundboard recording. RIP SRV . Actually the helicopter Stevie was in helicopter Clapton was supposed to be in but Clapton let him Stevie take his helicopter because Stevie had to get to Chicago.If you know the Richie Valens story it's deja Vu.. He's wearing his Squash Flower necklace. A design of Southwest Native Americans. He was just as cool with his outfits as he was with his guitar. The epitome of cool everytime you saw him. The show where he killed was in Wisconsin and 4 copters left and one never arrived. The how had SRV, Clapton, and Robert Cray. The helicopter pilot took off and flew into the side of a ski slope due to very thick fog. The others didn't find out he didn't make it til the next day. 3 members of Claptons crew were on the chopper with Stevie. August 1990. He was, I believe 35 days from his 35th birthday.
    I remember crying when the news came on the next day.
    At his funeral were greats such as Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Wonder, and Buudy Guy to name a few. It was truly a sad day for music lovers of the 80s

    In this video, SRV was using 13 gauge strings. That final concert in Wisconsin closed with a jam session with SRV, his brother Jimmy, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and Robert Cray. Clapton described this final performance of Vaughan’s life as "beyond anything that I could even describe. There was nothing missing. There was no room for improvement.” If a video of that jam exists, it's well hidden.

      @@LiteralistReactions To get around the risks of blocking and copyright strikes, you can mask or otherwise put a visual filter over the video shown to your viewers, and pause several times. Another TH-camr captures his reactions of the full video, then in what he shows viewers he intermittently covers the live action with a graphic or a varying still photo of the performer, but does not cut out the audio. That way viewers get the audio of the whole performance plus enough of the live action of the artist or group, along with the full reaction of the reactor viewing the unmasked, unedited video.
      Reversing the video image, making it semi-transparent, blurring the image intermittently, and/or placing "Copyright" text across the image are common techniques that seem to work, along with pausing, to foil algorithms and satisfy the oversight police.
      Loved your reaction, subbed, and hope you will consider some of these methods in order to keep doing reactions on awesome performances and performers whose videos, for one reason or another, trigger unwanted repercussions such as blocks and the risks of potential strikes for reaction channels. I know that SRV is definitely worth it. Even if the effort is something you decide against, PLEASE explore for yourself the amazing legacy of SRV. there was no sound guy or guitar tech assistant involved in that behind-the-back switch. If you rewatch you will see that Stevie unhooked his guitar strap at the but end, spun around to get the guitar behind him without getting wrapped up in the cord, re-attach the strap lug once it's behind his back while holding the note/chord in sustain... all in one quick motion. At that point the left shoulder is still holding the weight of the guitar but the both ends of the strap is essentially behind him rather than one back and one front. He does have to hold it away from his shirt tail so the fabric doesn't mute the strings which is the hard physical part of all this; blindly playing and pushing it away from your body at the same time.
    However, there is one live video out there where his guitar goes out of tune during the middle of a song, he nods to his guitar guy and on the momentary guitar break in the vocal verse his guitar tech manages to get him a new guitar on him, strapped up and plugged back in without missing a note.

Chris and Tommy played with Stevie under the name of "Double Trouble." Surprisingly, and effectively, a keyboard was added later with Reese Wynans "tickling the ivories."

    Huge SRV fan here...Stevie Ray Vaughan was able to break down barriers and be at the forefront of a blues resurgence in the 1980's, bringing rock fans into the fold with a powerful, driving style of play that earned him the comparisons with some of his greatest heroes such as Jimi Hendrix, Ottis Rush and Muddy Waters. And he synthesized many influences from Albert King to T-Bone Walker to get his unique guitar style. And because of this, he was able to reach a much broader audience with his music. I haven't heard a bad song of Stevie Ray's, however, I personally would recommend "Stevie Ray Vaughan - Tin Pan Alley (with Johnny Copeland)" by this performance you can see Stevie Ray Vaughan masterful skills as a guitarist and as a performer. It's simply chilling~ RIP: Stevie Ray Vaughan U R Missed💔🔥🎸💖✌🎶Great reaction👍

    One of my favorites from Stevie Ray, and I always prefer seeing his live performances over the studio work for the purity and raw emotion. I don't know about anyone else but my favorite part is at 8:38 (in this video) where he slows down and shows his mastery of dynamics, pulling the listener into an intimate space with him with sometimes barely audible notes. He also played on really thick strings. I’ve been playing for close to 8 years and I play on .11 gauge strings and I can still only play for about an hour before I have to stop, Stevie played on .13 gauge strings, bending the higher strings is sooo painful but his bends were HUGEEEE, he had extremely strong hands. Stevie was born to play guitar and play guitar he did. I’m 21 but I’m still moved to tears when I think about the talent the world lost when Stevie passed. We’re coming up on 32 years since his death on august 27th

    When it comes to guitars, SRV is GOD. He never unplugged his guitar. He removed the strap just before he spun around and reattached it. I heard something about Eric Clapton coming out from behind the scenes while SRV was playing. He just had to know who was playing so well. When he stood there watching for a couple seconds, he said he had to get out of there. He felt that if he listened to his full set ( time on stage ) that he himself would mess up ( not be able to follow SRV's act ).He was that good. I remember seeing it on a youtube documentary awhile back about one of them. I have been looking for it again, but so far have been unsuccessful. I stand by what I said though, SRV is God when it comes to the guitar. If you want the guitar to speak to your soul ( best way I can describe it ), you want David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.

    This is my pinnacle performance of any I've ever seen - if they inserted this performance into the movie Crossroads as Ralph Macchio vs Steve Vai nobody would believe it was humanly possible. I agree 1000% with John as far as the pinnacle even for SRV. I also say you can't go wrong with more from him - Led Zeppelin does some of my favorite blues songs like When the Levee Breaks, Jesus just left Chicago by ZZ Top is excellent, Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers, some Molly Hatchet or Lynyrd Skynyrd of course is more southern rock, Eric Clapton with JJ Cale is fun

    Stick with Stevie Ray Vaughan ❤

  • @bostonwhofan
    @bostonwhofan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stevie Ray Vaughn was discovered by David Bowie. If you are familiar with the songs "Modern Love", "Let's Dance", or "China Girl" or any other songs on David Bowie's Let's Dance album, then you are already familiar with Stevie Ray Vaughn because he played lead guitar on that album. On a different note, as great as that performance of "Texas Flood" is, you need to react to SRV performing "Life Without You" live at the Capitol Theater in Newark, NJ in 1985. "Texas Flood" is great, "Life Without You" brings it to the next level. BTW, if you do react to that live version of Life Without You, see if you can spot the moment when Stevie Ray loses a tooth but keeps on playing as though nothing happened!

      John Doh here... I had the honor of seeing Jeff Healy perform in Atlanta at an all-day concert at what was Coca-Cola Lakewood, I must say that since the only song of his I had ever heard was "Angel Eyes" I was planning to head to the beer line when his set started. Couple of notes in and I stopped in my tracks and turned around to go back to my seat. I just kept thinking, "How have I never heard of this guy before and why did someone make him a hit on such a sappy love song?"

      @@LiteralistReactions John, that's a great story. Glad you had a chance to see Jeff. I live in Western Canada and saw Jeff one a summer on concert tour with a variety of artists, like Colin James (another Canadian Blues guitarist worth checking out).

    Good point about the sound guy lol... SRV was indeed a total master of his craft.. What is just as remarkable, and the reason why he sweats so much I would guess, is that each performance is genuinely 'live', all his being is in each note, the band rolls with whatever direction he goes.

    SRV was a physically powerful guitar player. This was 1983 performance, Toronto. Those of us in Austin got a good dose of SRV at Antones in the 80's on a pretty regular basis. As always, RIP Clifford Antone. What he did for the blues cannot be overstated. As Buddy Guy once said, 'there wasn't a blues player left in Chicago during that time.' They were all in Austin. Magical times. And he was not 'holding his guitar up with just his hand'. He was a powerful player but not that powerful. He as a badass for sure. But no.

  • @thegorn68
    @thegorn68 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The lyrics don't really have anything to do with the 1980's or 90's as the song was written decades before Stevie covered it. Texas Flood" (sometimes called "Stormin' in Texas" or "Flood Down in Texas") is a blues song recorded by Larry Davis in 1958. Considered a blues standard, it has been recorded by several artists. Stevie's cover is by far the most known.
    The whole "...standin' out in the rain..." line would certainly emphasize having to be outside to use a pay phone. Nominally about a flood in Texas, Davis used it as a metaphor for his relationship problems:
    "Well I'm leavin' you baby, Lord I'm goin' back home to stay (2×)
    Well where there's no floods or tornadoes, baby the sun shines every day"

    Hey man I know I’m a little late but I really hope you see this, no sound guy was involved when Stevie put the guitar behind his back, watch it again and you can hear he sustains the note while he spins, takes strap off the guitar, puts the guitar behind his backs and puts the strap back on the guitar. Makes it even cooler when you realize it was 100% him in that trick

    I was at Stevie's last two shows at Alpine Valley. The second to last night was the greatest performance I have ever seen by any musician. It was literally a spiritual experience. Clapton had to follow Stevie and came out to the crowd and said that Stevie was the greatest guitarist he had ever seen or heard. Then he said, "How in the hell do I follow that?" He knew he couldn't, so he played ballads and it became a couples concert. The last night was good, but nothing like the first night. Stevie was not feeling it. He ended up leaving the show early, and took Clapton's helicopter back to Chicago. It only made it a few hundred yards because the fog was thick as soup. The helicopter crashed into a ski hill near the venue. That pilot had no business taking off in that weather. I had to drive home in that fog, and it was scary. It tripled my drive time. When I heard the news the next day, I had to walk out of my work to the parking lot to cry like a baby. I've seen many hundreds of shows and that performance still sits alone on the top shelf. His death still hurts me to this day.
