A Sheltered Millennial's Reaction to Fleetwood Mac - Black Magic Woman

A little about us:
Dave (the 36-year-old with the impressive beard) was raised almost completely sheltered from pop culture by his strict military family. He was homeschooled K-12. He legitimately has very little knowledge of music and artists from before 2000.
John (the guy in disguise) has been a MUSIC LOVER since he was born in the 1960's. Problem is, he rarely knows the lyrics to the music he loves.
Dave, on the other hand, has never heard or rarely overheard the music that John chooses to play for him, but does an impressive job sussing out the meanings behind the lyrics, sometimes to unexpected ends.
John remains in the dark both as a wry play on the situation but also because of legal issues causing his attorney to recommend maintaining a low profile.
We did not write, nor do we own the Copyright for the song used in this Educational Reaction Video. This is a real, honest reaction to a song Dave have never consciously heard before and/or listened to with intent. Any "facts" offered by John "Doh" are based more on his remembrances than on any actual research. Please feel free to correct him. He loves it.

มุมมอง 1764 หลายเดือนก่อน
There is no known video footage of Chris Squire playing this amazing "solo" during the 90125 World Tour. But since there is audio, I have meshed it with video of the Whitefish solo from a 1998 concert. Since Chris made changes to the solo all the time, it is impossible to completely match video with audio, so I barely tried (with some noticeable exceptions). Chris Squire passed away on June 27,...

    Peter Green was so great. Awesome emotive guitar work. I love Buckingham-era FM, but everything before it is still solid. Genuinely surprised he had never heard the Santana version. That "Abraxas" album is gold from start to finish

    Santana's version of Black Magic Woman may also let you introduce Gabor Szabo who not only wrote the end melody "Gypsy Queen" but also was an guitar inspiration to Carlos Santana. I really hope you are familiar with his music!!!

    You ARE pretty sheltered huh? Could be music of the devil. I'm not sure I've even heard this version, of course the Santana version many times. There's bluesy goodness here but there's also a dose of acid rock at one point, yes Santana tends to have a Latin feel and there's a different rhythm. Good stuff for both versions.

    It’s not Swing. It’s Jump Blues. It’s a combination of Swing type of orchestration and Blues. This is why there is a harmonica in it. Aerosmith’s rendition is pretty close to the original with Perry’s guitar mimicking the horn section.

    The best is he mocked the template formula of pop by using the chord progression from Pachelbel's Canon.

  • @cokohpuffs41
    @cokohpuffs41 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Super late to the party, but musically speaking, this is a "twist" on Pachelbel's Canon. There are a TON of songs based on the chord progression from Canon. The "Axis of Awesome" did a bit regarding the "Four Chord Song". On top of your realization lyrically, Blues Traveler LITERALLY based the music on the poppiest of pop tunes of popping pop history!

    My first listen to this was also as one of those whom hadn't purchased it. I was in high school and another drummer lent it to me :P He was glad to finally get it back. Unscratched of course. When 'open to suggestion', listening to this presents an interesting sight to the mind's eye. Like much of the music of it's time, catching a buzz and leaning ones head back while giving in to the musical presentation was better before music videos, but hey - we were young and MTV was cool.
