      Obama actually killed the V8 by signing a bill requiring 54.5 mpg fuel efficiency by 2025 in 2012. This started the downward spiral and is the reason many vehicles including the 3rd gen Tacoma have terrible/searching transmissions because they try to be fuel efficient.

    Sorry, let's be honest. Toyota screwed the pooch when they installed a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine in an offroad vehicle, weighing over 5K pounds... Wait for it, that gets the same MPGs as a V6. Same MPG but now you're paying for PREMIUM versus REGULAR gas. This is a classic example of what happens when you don't stand up against 'the machine.'

    • @ytj22
      @ytj22 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Same mpg as V6 with considerably more power isn't exactly "same mpg". The weight you're referring to is in no small part due to the hybrid powertrain which is providing much of the additional power.

    People complain these days that cars are too expensive and they want the car market to include more basic cars if it will result in lower prices, but when these automakers make a new car that's more basic (and thousands of dollars less expensive) than the old one, people just do an 'apples-to-apples' comparison and say its worse than the old one. THAT'S THE POINT.

    • @peters219
      @peters219 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      True but 70K for basic amenities puts this vehicle at a much lower value than their "lesser" grade competitors like Honda etc.. They've lowered their production costs and downgraded their materials and still expect the customer to pay more for less. That's what's really happening.

    Here is the bottomline. Unless one needs a 4x4 because they live in Alaska, one doesnt need any of these Toyota Trucks. Most buy cause they think they're cool (they are) but the price and the price to own (fuel) isnt worth it. For this kind of money one can by a far superior vehicle to fit their needs.
    Nobody cares that you drive a 6th 4Runner or new Sequoia. You might get some ❤ from a passing fan boy but nobody else cares. Think before you go break the bank. Money is better spent elsewhere.

    I have a 2004 4Runner Limited. The dashboard has cracked, the leather is starting to crack, and the plastic trim around the wheel wells is starting to show its age. But there's no rust and it always starts, and it has never not gotten me home from fishing in the mountains of Idaho.
    I'm considering replacing it with either the new Landcruiser, the new 4Runner, or the new Lexus GX 550, or perhaps even keeping it and getting a Rivian. Honestly, I like the GX 550 the best. 9600 lb of towing, a real V6, and it just looks like a natural replacement for the 2004 4Runner. But a big part of me thinks my 4Runner has another 140,000 miles in it, at least, and it still goes everywhere all those overlanding videos go and gets me back home. 85K for the GX 550 is a lot more than no car payment for something that still does everything that I need it to do.

    Was very concerned about the Plasticky quality fit and finish of the Toyota. At this price point I'm expecting quality materials throughout along with a solid feeling and sounding ride. Closing the door to the sound of a hollow tin can is something that bugs the hell out of me and Toyota is notoriously bad for this.
    Fuel economy is also something I was surprised to see. A 4 banger hybrid barely eeking out a couple mpg more than substantially more capable 6 cylinders is very disappointing.

    So, it has no soul? That is because many manufactures making everything computerized. Just push a button. Want 4WD? Push a button. Want extra off road capability ie. crawl control? Push a button. The list goes on. My 2021 Wrangler requires me to shift between 2WD and 4H and 4L. Do I have crawl control? No. Do I need it? Not really, I just need driving skill and sometimes a little help from my friends. My Wrangler Sport EcoDiesel with 65,000 miles on it has plenty of capability and it has soul. And it has been completely reliable. Just routine maintenance needed.

    It's sad that Toyota's steps to "modernizing" included dropping the things at the core of why they were so good: quality, value, and reliability. It's like they're taking cues from Ford. They're looking at margins and forget about their loyal customers and their name and reputation.

I'd potentially trade in my 5th gen for it after like 10 years (test how reliable these next gen vehicles are and get it for cheaper lol). 5th Gen 4runner will still be better than 90% of SUVs by then so im in no rush.

    After watching your LX 600 video here is what you should do :
    Wife = 3 row large family SUV. Ford expedition or Cadillac Escalade. She wants room.
    You = Ram RHO or Ford Raptor. Daily driver, off road capable, and you get a pickup bed for hauling things. Maybe even consider a Ranger raptor or Tacoma Trailhunter. These vehicles also fit your ego and tough guy personality. Or you could keep the LC 200 for yourself, or even the LC 250 for yourself.
    Bottom line = get your garage down to 2 vehicles. You will save on registration fees, insurance, gas, and other vehicle operating costs.
    SELL = Ineos and sell either the LC 200 or LC 250 or sell both.
    Buy = 3 row large SUV. Wife.
    You = pickup truck or 2 row off road capable SUV.
    This will save you a lot of money and wasted money on vehicle modifications.
