Sorry, let's be honest. Toyota screwed the pooch when they installed a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine in an offroad vehicle, weighing over 5K pounds... Wait for it, that gets the same MPGs as a V6. Same MPG but now you're paying for PREMIUM versus REGULAR gas. This is a classic example of what happens when you don't stand up against 'the machine.'
Same mpg as V6 with considerably more power isn't exactly "same mpg". The weight you're referring to is in no small part due to the hybrid powertrain which is providing much of the additional power.
People complain these days that cars are too expensive and they want the car market to include more basic cars if it will result in lower prices, but when these automakers make a new car that's more basic (and thousands of dollars less expensive) than the old one, people just do an 'apples-to-apples' comparison and say its worse than the old one. THAT'S THE POINT.
True but 70K for basic amenities puts this vehicle at a much lower value than their "lesser" grade competitors like Honda etc.. They've lowered their production costs and downgraded their materials and still expect the customer to pay more for less. That's what's really happening.
Until they fix the trunk hump and seats not being flush issue, this thing isn’t ready for prime time. That goes for the sequoia and the new 4Runner hybrid as well.

But there's no rust and it always starts, and it has never not gotten me home from fishing in the mountains of Idaho. I'm considering replacing it with either the new Landcruiser, the new 4Runner, or the new Lexus GX 550, or perhaps even keeping it and getting a Rivian. Honestly, I like the GX 550 the best. 9600 lb of towing, a real V6, and it just looks like a natural replacement for the 2004 4Runner. But a big part of me thinks my 4Runner has another 140,000 miles in it, at least, and it still goes everywhere all those overlanding videos go and gets me back home. 85K for the GX 550 is a lot more than no car payment for something that still does everything that I need it to do.

I really wanted to love the new Land Cruiser. After looking at several and a test drive I’m not sure I can even say that I like the new version. Definitely feels cheapened WAY down. I actually prefer a nice 5th Gen 4runner interior more. If they were priced 10-15k less maybe I’d feel differently. That motor sounds horrible!
Currently looking at the new LC vs. Defender P100. When I shut the doors on the new LC they sound so hollow and cheap. The Defender is so solid comparatively. I know that sounds stupid but it made me think twice about the LC.
And not mention the horrible wind noise! Oh my god Toyota! Are they make cars for offroading only and disregarding that most of the time its on the highway!!? WTF!!
My 2 cents after driving the Land Cruiser on and off-road for a few days: it’s definitely very capable off-road and works okay on paved roads, but having 6 cylinders wouldn’t hurt. I’d seriously consider getting one if it were 20-30% cheaper-great vehicle, but the price point is a bit steep!
I just got a 250. The engine power is OK. Had it in Colorado mountains with snow and a couple very rocky back roads and it was great. However, on the highway I’m getting 15 MPG. That is worse than any vehicle since 1980 including three Corvettes that 30, a Durango with Magnum 400 had better mileage, etc. It only has a 16 gallon tank. I have worse range anxiety than an electric.

It's sad that Toyota's steps to "modernizing" included dropping the things at the core of why they were so good: quality, value, and reliability. It's like they're taking cues from Ford. They're looking at margins and forget about their loyal customers and their name and reputation.

I'd potentially trade in my 5th gen for it after like 10 years (test how reliable these next gen vehicles are and get it for cheaper lol). 5th Gen 4runner will still be better than 90% of SUVs by then so im in no rush.
Great video as always Ben! I’m considering get a new vehicle recently. I’m just so struggle with LC250 and Ranger Raptor. What would be your choice if you can only have one car in next few years? I live in Toronto btw. Waiting for your reply😊
After watching your LX 600 video here is what you should do : Wife = 3 row large family SUV. Ford expedition or Cadillac Escalade. She wants room. You = Ram RHO or Ford Raptor. Daily driver, off road capable, and you get a pickup bed for hauling things. Maybe even consider a Ranger raptor or Tacoma Trailhunter. These vehicles also fit your ego and tough guy personality. Or you could keep the LC 200 for yourself, or even the LC 250 for yourself. Bottom line = get your garage down to 2 vehicles. You will save on registration fees, insurance, gas, and other vehicle operating costs. SELL = Ineos and sell either the LC 200 or LC 250 or sell both. Buy = 3 row large SUV. Wife. You = pickup truck or 2 row off road capable SUV. This will save you a lot of money and wasted money on vehicle modifications.

And it has been completely reliable. Just routine maintenance needed.
No vehicle is perfect Ben!
I've had no problems after 6 years of ownership 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Ultimate 70k miles.
Watch the Car Care Nuts review of the LC , done about 4-5 months ago . That review convinced me that the LC was not for me .
I think rent a uhaul truck is better option for you my friend!..
if you want a real land cruiser (in america) that is the lexus GX. Everywhere outside of US, the land cruiser is an actual land cruiser. american land cruisers are watered down
You mean Lexus LX600, GX550 is a lexified Prado
@@v.t.4338 i'm talking about the land cruiser prado
@@floydb9100 gx and Land Cruiser (USA Land Cruiser, world wide, Land Cruiser Prado) are the same. The Land Cruiser with its sway bar disconnected actually has a higher RTI score than the GX with EKDSS. Sure little different parts and bits but essentially the same. I’m getting my Land Cruiser in a few weeks. There are various reasons why I chose the Land Cruiser with the premium package over the gx overtrail or overtrail+
It's sad that Toyota's steps to "modernizing" included dropping the things at the core of why they were so good: quality, value, and reliability. It's like they're taking cues from Ford. They're looking at margins and forget about their loyal customers and their name and reputation.
That’s what happened when buy the LC instead of the GX 550
Glad you guys came to a decision how much you selling your nice used land cruiser for? Have a good week and a merry merry Christmas to you and your family.
Depends on the miles it has when we sell
Thanks for the reply. Ben sounds awesome and that makes 100% sense, please keep me updated and all of us have an awesome rest of your week and God bless thank you.
Guess I’ll cross that one off my list. Thanks for the info.
Ahh my favorite series… “why I’m selling….”
He's getting the 6th gen 4runner. But regarding the LC250, yeah its a cool SUV but with your current lineup you don't need it. I'd potentially trade in my 5th gen for it after like 10 years (test how reliable these next gen vehicles are and get it for cheaper lol). 5th Gen 4runner will still be better than 90% of SUVs by then so im in no rush.
Not buying a 4runner
I knew you would do this very predict🎉able.
It’s all marketing and stupid laws in the US. In Africa, Europe and Australia they come with different engine choices
Great video as always Ben! I’m considering get a new vehicle recently. I’m just so struggle with LC250 and Ranger Raptor. What would be your choice if you can only have one car in next few years? I live in Toronto btw. Waiting for your reply😊
We all know the Landcruiser is ruined just like the Tacoma.Sounds like you’re getting a new 4 Runner and it’s the same thing.
I won’t be buying the new 4runner
Jurassic Park book all the tour vechiles were Electric Land Cruisers, this is just prophecy coming true.
Wonder whats the trade in value for that?
Soul equals a V6 non hybrid option at the minimum.
This Land Cruiser or the Lexus ?
Hey Ben what the percentage of tint you have on this vehicle?
Limo back and about 35% up front
yea for 2 mph I would rather have the v8 in 100 or 200 or even the 4 liter v6 in 4runner. they should have slapped that in it.
No soul thing is because it's decent at everything it doesn't excel at anything tbh...
Im here for it all Ben! Comments going crashing out in here!😂
How much are you asking?
Depends on how many miles it has when we sell it
Wouldnt it be cheaper to just rent the vehicle for a week, make all the content and then "SELL" the car.
Have you decided on what car u are getting ben?
Pretty sure
@BenHardyCars am waiting for the reveal.
After watching your LX 600 video here is what you should do :
Wife = 3 row large family SUV.
Why did toyota not at least give us a choice for a v6? Guess they didn't care and the sales will show them if they were right
Not just Toyota,,,all the manufacturers that are doing this crap…
They made this decision, pathfinder has a v6 so do several others. But it’s becoming rare.
@@Getusom frontiers only engine option is a V6 and I'm fine with that
@@D41Michigan yeah. I am also…that’s why I said “ all manufacturers that are doing this crap”. Nissan and Honda are the only v-6’s left. And I bet Honda won’t have it much longer. I’d even be ok with Nissan having a 4 cyl turbo as long as they still offered a v6….
You have a problem, Benjamin.

Stay classy my friend.
Your gonna buy the new Armada Pro-4x!!
Good move ! 4cyl is gonna be junk in 50k miles. Always stay with the v8.
Land Cruisers have had 4 cyl before 400k miles +. 4runners have had turbos before lasted 400k Miles and beyond.
So basically TH-camrs just buy new cars and do multiple videos on them for clicks. Make your money. Then sell them and move on to the next. Start the cycle over.
Well stated, indeed👏
Fairly obnoxious and tends to erode any credibility to what they say.
Stop buying these big bricks
Get a sports car…
Stop buying junk and making videos on it…as a car reviewer I would think at some point in time you would understand what reliable and what’s not
