This was a really well researched and presented video Amgela. Just one thing that surprised me, the photos you showed of Apple type bodies. Apples are not all plus sized.
Jeans shopping IS so frustrating! My waist has thickened as I grew older so I can’t wear what I once could. Losing weight helped and I can wear belts again but still have a little extra. I wore skinny jeans forever but I like the more modern wider leg looks. Straight legs and slight flares are good for me but getting used to the extra fabric is challenging. Thanks for this video it was very helpful. ❤
Thanks for the research Angela. I am a rectangle, but i am short waisted. Skinny or boot cut jeans look best on me with a mid rise. High rise can be too high! I had not thought too much about the pockets. I was always told that you should have nothing on the pockets as this is inelegant, but your points are well made. I will have to see what i find. Thanks!
Life is so funny. In my younger days I was an hour glass/pear shape. My jeans were wider at the bottom and I often had to have the waist taken in. Now I have turned into an apple shape! New challenges. Thank you for your videos. Nothing in life stays the same.

Great video, Angela! I’m an hour glass shaped gal, and you had me laughing AND dancing to “ Brick House”. You are so, so right about the jeans for an hour glass. I have never liked skinny jeans! In fact, I loathe them because they accentuate an hourglass figure too much! High waisted, straight leg jeans do fit me the best and pants if they say “ curvy fit”. I am a petite pear shape. I find a midrise jean is good for me. Also, a dark wash. High waisted is the worst thing for me. So is a skinny jean. No way! A midrise bootcut in petite is perfection!
I have found that being a petite, short waisted, hourglass with a meno belly, mid rise are best for me ☺️

I look for at least 11 inch rise and 31 to 32 inseam, and a slim fit in the thigh. Not always easy to find. Loft slim boot cut are good for me. Some jeans with a 9 inch rise are called high rise but they are not on me.

I actually did all the research on brands too but it would have made this video too long. I was wondering if I should make a separate video on brands even though the brands I found may not really work for everyone.....If enough people want to see the brands, then I will film a video with that research

Great video! Jeans are difficult. I have yet to find the perfect Jean for me. I prefer a mid rise. I am short waisted. 5’4” with a 30 inch inseam. If the rise is too long the jeans slide down and I constantly am pulling the up. I can’t stand skin tight jeans. I tend to go with a straight leg and girlfriend jeans. And then trying to find the right shoe or sneaker to go with the Jean… ugh… I’ve wasted so much $ on jeans that at first try on feel good, then end up washing, wearing and not liking them. I’m still searching for my perfect Jean. Thank you Angela for this video. 💕
Thanks for your tips. It's hard to find jeans that fit. I prefer high waist, straight leg, not tight. Any shade of blue, preferably medium blue. I don't wear jeans as often as I used to (used to wear them every day) but I still like them. I look in thrift stores. This way if they don't work out, I didn't spend a ton of money. I'm always happy if I can find Amanda jeans in size 4 petite.Those always fit me. I also have a couple of Wild Fable high waist straight leg. These are quite loose. I have to wear a belt with those. But they are very comfortable. I know it's a juniors brand but they fit me. I was going to get rid of them at one point but my 28 year old daughter said they are in style and look good on me. I kept them and glad I did. I can't afford jeans from dept. stores. Jeans have really gone up in price, even at Kohls and Old Navy. I used to buy jeans on sale in those stores.
Lemme tell ya, the BEST jeans I've found over the past 2-3 years are from (wait for it) WALMART! MANY styles, lots of great stretch, and flattering too! My job was business casual, so I would wear black or white jeans with jackets, or nicer jeans with heels, all from Walmart. Of course, YMMV, but for me WM is my go-to for great jeans! (BTW, Brick House was my theme song from back in the day, before I became an apple! LOL)
Still love my skinny jeans in the winter in West MI ( boots of every kind). Problem with high waisted as my hip & bum (Sponge Bob Square Pants) are the same size or smaller so buying by waist size then creates baggage below. Honestly I rarely wear jeans anymore as being retired I dress for comfort & warmth.
It seems like mid-rise boot cut never go out of stlye. So that's what I am staying with.
Great information as always. I have so much trouble finding jean's that fit my body without that gap in the back. When I find one's that fit I buy more then 1 pair. Please do one on brand's this will help so much. Thank you

Yes!!! Thank you for saying that bigger pockets make butts look smaller. So true!! I had a girlfriend arguing with me about this recently. If you have a small pocket, there’s a lot of space around that pocket that your butt is filling up and just makes your butt look too big for your jeans. Not good!

I’m straight up and down. Waist a hip areas are not so different. Also short waisted. So mid rise is my best fit.
I'm an hourglass shape but don't wear high waisted jeans because I have a shorter torso. Medium rise, skinny, flare, bell I love them all.

I would stick to the same concepts as I talked about here but then there is the issue of them being too thin and having underwear show. I am looking for a good pair myself so lets see what I find 😊👍🏻
Have you ever tried Kim Gravel jeans on qvc or Diane Gilman jeans on HSN.
Lol! A QVC fan?…me too. Love Kim Gravel clothing, but her jeans don’t fit me. I have a small butt and banana shaped, but a tummy on me right now. I love NYDJ. That’s my go to they never fail me.

I am an athletically built, banana shaped girl. If I go for skinny jeans, they squeeze the heck out of my thighs. I also have the problem where almost all jeans assume I have a small waist. So I wind up with suctioned to my thighs, too tight in my waist, and just baggy everywhere else. Almost giving up on jeans.

Hey Angela I’m between a pear shape & a brick house. I want my butt to look bigger bc it’s not big enough now. I used to be a brick house/ air glass. I like to enhance my hips & booty. Great video- thank you. Could you do a video explaining ex- boyfriend and girlfriend jeans? I really don’t understand these and how they compare to regular jeans? And how is a size 6 curvy jean at Loft or White House Blackmarket different than a size 6 regular Jean?
I'm shaped like a pear and high waisted jeans accentuate curves. The goal is to minimize curves. Low rise, straight leg, boot cut jeans that aren't tight fitting, always minimizes the pear shape. Flare leg accentuates a pear shape. I bought some low rise, boot cut trousers at Christmas from Express and they're great. Add a thin belt (Over an inch in thickness accentuates) and it's very slimming.

I'm a broad shouldered pear; my shoulders are the widest, but my waist is thinnest, And my hips sre bigger than my waist and bust.
Good video, Angela! I'm 4'11 but am roughly 40 pounds overweight. I carry weight in my arms and tummy. When I was fit I was "Athletic" - when I lose weight, my tummy flattens and my pants size goes from a 16 to a 12 REAL FAST. Now I'd say I'm an "Apple" without the larger butt. Finding jeans that fit is difficult - especially since I'm a combo Athletic/Apple. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, what types of jeans work for you?
I am 5' tall, 110 lbs, an athletic/apple combo? Very flat butt. Any jeans I buy I can pull on and take off without unfastening anything, and jeans that fit me in the butt and thighs do have a big waist. One of my biggest annoyances is that my pants are always falling down. I think I look best in boot cut, petite if I can find them, mid-rise. Although I'd like to try some higher waisted ones if I can find a petite. I have my original 501s from college (1971) no stretch back then and they were boys jeans. Not sure if 501s are still the same? I had embroidered mine and they still fit me! I need to do some jeans shopping, this has been helpful.
Was an hourglass with a flat butt, time and having kids took it's toll. Now an apple. It's so hard finding jeans to fit my waist that are not too wide in the legs. I find high waist skinny jeans work best or slim bootcut. My butt needs all the bulk. I'll have to look for flap pocket jeans.

As a "pear" shape I always search for bootcut - a sure win! Ladies, no matter your age, body shape or weight, PLEASE buy the correct size. Working at a huge discount store, I see women who look like they have decoupaged jeans onto their bodies. It's not attractive to the guys. The correct size, that makes you look terrific!

I I love your TH-cam show. Get lots of good advice. I really looked forward to his episode with jean fitting body types. I''m a "strawberry" because have a very large bust and upper back and now a "mommy belly", BUT but have skinny legs like sticks. Think I'm more like a lollipop (haha). But Angela, I strongly disagree with your suggested jeans for my body type because when I wear wider leg jeans, they make me look heavy all over. See your point in making bottom look wider with decorated pockets & buttons, etc. but for me the leg thing is the big issue. Wish you could help this lollipop. Love your show. Keep them coming !
I agree with you! I'm a strawberry also. I find 'straight' legs work the best--they are actually wide because of my "sticks!" and give them a heavier look, which I like. Slim cut look like straight legs on me. I think you have to be a strawberry to know how they fit.
I tried only 1 pair of straight legs, not bad buy they still had a baggy look in rear below my skinny bum. I'll be trying .ore jeans on soon and will check out other brands of straight legs hoping for a tighter fit in the "rear". Thanks for commento
Are you maybe more of an apple shape?? In that case, you could wear your skinny jeans with tunic tops to help accentuate your slim legs
You also may want to consider trying a slim fit jean to help with the fit in the rear as well as looking for the extra pocket detailing
Of course, even given all of this info, each persons shape will be a bit different (not all people within each shape will look exactly the same) Maybe the slim fit or a skinny are the best ones for you. Do a little experimenting with different types you have not tried before and see what you think
my shoulder and hips are 34 and waist 22 but my busts are only 30 what body shape will you name it?

Nice video. Thanks. Pity that like all content creators who talk about different fashions for different shapes you also did not mention the problem that many apple shapes have. Because of a big tummy, in order to find jeans that fit in that area we are usually forced to get jeans that are way too wide in the thighs & often the hips. The look is horrendous. The only solution that I have been offered is to take the jeans to a tailor to have fitted. The cost is often half the cost of the jeans themselves.
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not moaning just stating a fact. Hope someone addresses this issue sometime - even if they say there is no solution but losing weight 😉 I’d like to add that wide-legged pants (whether jeans or tailored) don’t work for all apples. For example if you are 5’1’’ then you simply look stupid in them and lose your main good point - your legs - under masses of material.

Unfortunately I'm a plus sized rectangle (measurements are 44-40-44) with a super short torso. So the advice in this video really does not look good on me. :(

I found a pair of pants on consignment that are pull-on that are very flattering. Lee brand, slim fit, slim leg, mid-rise sculpting. Wonder if they have the same in blue jeans? These were more of a twill khaki dress pant but the fit is fantastic.

A darker bootcut do look better on me but I am experimenting with this also. I ordered a pair of boyfriend jeans, curvy slim fit (instead of skinny) and straight legs just to see what all of those look like compared to what I have now
I love high waisted jeans they are just more comfy but, I am short waisted. As long as I don't tuck anything in will it matter?
I think it may depend on what shape you are as to if tucking a shirt looks best or not

It is actually the color processing that the jeans go through (for black jeans) that make the jean material shrink more than any other color 😊👍🏻
