Same. I'm getting thinner, but skin tight pants are not for me. I look like a meatball with toothpick legs in them! Tunic tops and flowy pants are where it's at for me. Stripes 😱 Heck no! I like longer maxi dresses with a jacket or a tunic style short dress. Hides a lot and still looks youthful.
I have two sets of clothing. When on the art circuit I am definitely more Bohemian and when I am in a more sedate social setting I dress more conservatively. My artsy clothing is fun to wear and enjoy doing it.
Ooh, we enjoy a touch of formality with dresses. I don’t own one pair of jeans, nor a tee-shirt. Shorts are for home. I love to wear Jackie Kennedy type bowler hats, gloves. Especially when traveling, this look opens doors.
Why is everyone so petrified of getting or “ looking” older? It’s a privilege! After burying my 40 yr old sister this year, I’m just done with this. Every YT influencer over 40 is obsessed with staying young.
Condolences over the loss of your sister. The problem with fashion is that time zooms by. I've bought pieces intending to wear them with nowhere to go. Before you know it the season is over. I didn't like cold shoulder, shark bite tops and ignored them. I agree with square toed shoes and pointy shoes. They're still promoted by other young influencers Go figure. Take it with a grain of salt.
You are so right. I was thinking the same exact thing. This culture is obsessed with youth and that is not healthy. Getting older is the most natural thing in the world and I'm sick of being told I need to fight it. I'm trying to embrace it and accept it and enjoy my golden years.
What is more important than what you wear is speaking well, good manners, having topics of interest to talk about, good hygiene, attractive makeup and a nice hairstyle.
Makeup isn't necessary. I think I look much better with clean healthy skin, instead of a layer of irritating crap on my face, which is why I stopped wearing makeup, decades ago.
I still wear makeup lipstick and cologne I'm grey at temples . No fake eyelashes no heels for me at 78. BTW I don't over do it on the make-up. I don't look like a clown 🤡
As an older lady, I never wear sleeveless anything. Same principle with shorts. My pants are 7/8. I don't go shorter unless I'm staying home. Thanks for the tips!
That would not be because of the age would it? A lot of older people these days have a fairly good physique while you can see plenty of 30 something with bingo wings on upper arms and stage 4 lipodema legs.
@@johannas.l.brushane2518 Well skin elasticity certainly diminishes with age, as does the likelihood of surgical scars etc. I'm hitting 70 and was working full time as a caretaker who also did the lawn maintenance, did all the shopping, driving, home chores, car maintenance, etc, while looking after my spouse who'd suffered a massive stroke more than 8 yrs ago and has difficuties walking, speaking, can't drive, etc. up until 2 yrs ago. I was active (probably too active) and had good muscle definition in my arms and back, no wings or fat thighs but I got sick 2x and had a minor surgery in those last 2 years. Those were accompanied by an unplanned, unwanted and unnecessary lost of 30+ lbs (a lot of it muscle) in less than 6 months. That skin hasn't, and won't _snap_ back, even though I managed to regain 20+ lbs of my lost weight and continued working, because of my age. Same with my loss of muscle. My docs actually told me to slow down because my level of activity, at my age, was preventing me from regaining that lost weight and I was always exhausted, so yeah age can do it.
@@milomilo55 Yes, but then you have lost a substantial amount of weight in fairly short time. And you may have been more muscular before. If you had not had that, and you had not been larger before, your age as such would not cause your skin on the arms to sag to the point to need to hide it. Gosh, as we grow older we'd need to pull pillow covers over our heads then. People in the 60s and 70s now have many who have had active lifestyles and not fluctuating weight and only minor loss of muscle naturally as hormonal change in menopause. Granted they may be a little bit wrinklier and skin a bit rougher but not necessary loose skin. And it would think it would be plenty of loose skin for others to notice unless the person not lifting up their arms and point at it.
When my daughter was 7 (she's 38 now) , she got me a necklace with giant hot pink plastic beads for mother's day. She bought it from the neighbor that was having a garage sale. It is hideous. I still wear it on Mother's day. LOL It's a tradition and she loves it. I always pair it with an equally hideous LOUD paisley shirt.😆
I have one of those too! However, mine is actually very pretty but it’s very big and bright! But it’s the first thing my now 18-year-old son ever bought for me with his own money and I tried to wear it at least every couple of months.
Hrm... Down here in Florida everyone wears bold and patterned pants, and also shirts! Btw, Florida is no longer just old people. Everyone, all kinds, and all ages are already here, or are coming here. This state must be different from all the others. Everyone wears capris, too. Our winters are mild and we are in sandals and capris because long pants are just too hot. We even wear socks with our flip-flops (tabis) when a cold front goes through. We also wear our Tevas with velcro straps. I haven't worn actual shoes for years. Why is everyone so obsessed with age and keeping up with the latest styles? Down here we don't have to dress like everyone else; we are all our own individuals, and our weather (not style) is what influences how we dress. For awhile I lived in the DC metro area and everyone always dressed like they were always at work. Their clothes were all black, gray, or navy - and they all looked like clones of each other. To me, the thing that makes or breaks one looking old or not is HAIR. The typical shaved up the back of the head and shaped around the ears on ladies will make them look old, and so will long stringy hair. It's not even a matter of style. And IMO, for the guys, I think nothing makes one look old than a beard and lots of facial hair. I know it's the big thing right now, but good looking guys, not in the hive community, don't cover up their faces in mounds of hair.
I ve been watching you for along time and at this time I have 8 bags of outdated clothes on the porch to take to a thrift store. I’m 80 and still like to be stylin’!
Good for you! I feel as a young 70 year old its more about looking current (which means you feel and give off current vibes about life too) rather than looking young. Many ladies I know say they are not interested in fashion, then get upset when they get mistaken for older or just frumpy or past it in ideas, which is a bit contrary really.
It’s also true that quality pantyhose make your legs look so much better and flawless! With slight control top and comfortable waistband features, you get built-in shape wear, which almost every woman needs with slim fitting dresses or those with thin fabrics. Choosing the right color is key…
I’ve seen many fashion influencers say that capris are in this year, so I pulled mine from the back of my closet. I’m 5’ 9” and slim. I have nice legs with no marks, so the bottom part of my legs are a place I want to show off. Years of Pilates and Barre classes did that for me, and I’m 62!!! You’ve got to show off your best feature anytime you can.
Its all about the top you wear with it and what shoes. Flats or sandals can update it right away. Besides "capris" are pretty close to "cropped" pants so not a big deal.
Why complain? Angela said do it if that's your thing. Personally, I think she scored 100 on this one. Not only are these trends old, they do NOT look good.
Nothing is wrong with looking old. Perhaps those are the only clothes some people have. Clothes are expensive. Everything has gotten very expensive. People may not have the money to buy new clothes
Well, i honestly think capris/petal pushers or even 7/8 pants are timeless. I saw a video the other day talking about whether or not capris were making a comeback, and to be honest, I did not know they ever left. 😂 I stand by my belief that they are timeless. Now what can be adjusted, of course, is the fit, material and details of the capris because they may look trendy or they could look goofy, depending on those two factors.
At my age, 80+, I still love clothes, but they are now bought as camouflage! Batwing arms, mean no sleeveless items, varicose veins, hidden by longish skirts or dresses, capri or long pants, no waist, I never buy belts or clothes with pronounced waists I still wear pantyhose when dressed up for an event. I wear and like black tights in the winter. I mostly stick to classic designs and avoid faddish garments, like asymmetrical hem lines and cutout shoulders. I think the hems look like a poor sewing job ! I have occasionally bought a nice skirt and straightened the hem. I have bought a few what I call under-armor garments to hold in the bulges. Not too comfortable though. I really don’t want to come off a ‘ sweet old lady’ with drawstring pants and big sweatshirts , that say ‘ I love my grandchildren ‘ worn with huge white sneakers. (Apologies to all older women who are comfortable in these sort of outfits.) Somehow, I can’t give up fashion completely, even though I am an old lady!
Good for you. Im 71 living in south Florida.. I had 7 knee surgeries and at times have to wear the white velcro tennis shoes to get around. Im now adding colorful shoes and comfortable outdoor clothes. We need to talk to the buyers for stores that keep supplying all black clothes for larger older women.
Brenda-I am 87 and love fashion but I have my own style and it is eclectic-I love Sundance-Anthropology-and I also shop thrift stores with a friend who also loves clothes and always looks cute-there are so many people giving advice -we just gotta be who we are. ❤️👵🏻
So many fashion influencers give us conflicting information each season on what is "in and out". One of the most popular influencers just recently had a vlog showing that capris were now "in" this year. Everyone should stop obsessing about trends and learn what looks best on their own bodies. When we are true to ourselves and go with the best looks for our body type, it should never be considered dated. But the video is very entertaining I agree!
Thanks Angela, totally agree on the pantyhose. Haven't worn them in decades. However, I was in Italy in February and they were wearing black pantyhose with little black skirts and they looked adorable. I'm going to try out that look when the days get colder.
I have one of those jagged hemline tops that I loved because it was so soft and comfy. Because I can sew, I simply lopped off that bottom edge, and hemmed it to a "normal" length. What I'm saying is, if you LOVE a certain shirt, but it's "dated", you can fix it, or pay someone to fix it. BTW, I LOVE the cat filing her claws! LOL!
Easy to wear no pantyhose if you live in a warm climate, but in the north, you freeze. In the spring, when it's too warm to wear tights, but too cold to go bare legged, they are a must. Also, no worries about blisters.
I've seen some dark leggings in the winter but truly haven't seen pantyhose in maybe two decades and I'm in a cold climate. I don't even see them for sale in the stores...SO uncomfortable they were, ugh.
here in the American South I was glad for the end of pantyhose. I nice dressy sandal and sundress when it is very humid here works! Yes, for your snowy season I see the benefit.
If i look "old" that's because i am! This obsession with looking younger is sad. Why spend what prescious little time left on worrying about looking young?
I going to 70s and I feel much comfortable now then when I was in my twenties and I was considered beautiful . The most important thing is to respect yourself, use your skills, time and money to do good and be mindful to your surroundings and your inner beautiful and youthful will shine, even in a rag…
Im 66 and really appreciate your humor and fashion ideas. Im not offended, I am amused. I am proud to be older and always put my best foot forward in fashion and beauty. Dont worry about the Debby Downers comments, you are helping so many get out of their ruts.❤ New subbie here!
I don't love them - quite the opposite - but they do perform a function. Sometimes I enjoy wearing dresses in the winter and can't go bare legged or I'll freeze. So it's mostly longer skirts with boots.
I have a very difficult time wearing dressy shoes with bare feet. I’ve spent a fortune on “comfortable” dress heels but I always end up with a blister and I just feel too old to walk around a wedding barefoot all night. So I still do usually wear hose to fancy events. I’ve tried the ones with the open toes and they can work but usually I opt to wear closed toe shoes in those instances and at least a knee length skirt so the hose are not as noticeable. I do know that they are totally outdated so I’ve tried really hard to find the sheerest and most natural looking ones. Does anyone else have this problem?
@@anitas5817I beg to differ with you. now I know there's a fine line on this one, and the hosiery thing can be tricky (to wear or not to wear, that isthequestion. But, "hosiery" is sometimes necessary. I think selecting the right color is what helps. lastly, it's pretty hard to wear a business suit while being totally bare legged. It's a difficult call.
Love the striped cream and tan dress on you. It’s so flattering on you! I never did like the pointed shirts or cold shoulder shirts. I thought it made me look a lot bigger than I am! Just not flattering on anyone at any size!
Im 78 and haven't turned grey. Only at the temples! I wear stretch pants and unique tops to that cover things . I use Lancome makup products and Neutrogena bath . Same since the 80's . I'm a shoe person so I go to shoe shopping too often! My nails are manicured and I still wear my favorite cologne. I like myself!
My mother started on a diet and fitness journey in her seventies. She began hiking with a walking club on the weekends and joined a gym with the city. I didn't see her for a year and was shocked at how great she looked. I noticed her posture changed. She was no longer hunched over looking and looked toned and less flabby. It's never too late.
Great tips for not looking old. Agree on the panty hose but please know many of us older ladies have spider veins, blue veins etc so don't feel comforatble showing our legs so wear longer dresses and for sure , no shorts!
Agree! I know pantyhose are outdated, and I feel outdated wearing them. But I have horrible varicose veins and spider veins. I had surgery for the veins and they came right back. So I don’t wear shorts even in the middle of summer. Even though there are so many cute dresses I would wear for summer and weddings but I can’t show my legs. I know what cute dresses are in style, just can’t wear them 😢. Wish there was a solution.
I took all my cold shoulder tops and dresses to the tailor and had them made into sleeveless. The price wasnt bad at all and now they are not out of date!
A number of years ago, I had one of those "high/low" dresses (longer in the back than in the front)....took it to a seamstress and she made it into a "regular" hem --no more "high/low." Great idea what you did with your cold shoulder tops/dresses.
Thank you, I'd been wondering if I could alter my tops, they are still like new since I hardly wore them. Bought them for the color/pattern wasn't crazy about cold shoulder detail.
Square toes just came back into style again this year. Pantyhose look classy in the winter with an appropriate dress in an appropriate situation. Like church or a nice wedding
Honestly, many believe pantyhose is still the professional look in a business setting. 😊 I wouldn’t want to see the bare legs of men in a professional setting and nor is it appropriate for women in the same context. I suppose if the hem hits really low on the leg, it might be less an issue. Just the opinion of some of us 😊 And yes on square toe - just bought a pair of flip flops last week and it caught me off guard, but they are square toe 🤷🏼♀️
I watch you because I generally agree but most of these aren’t correct with the trends this year. Square toe shoes are definitely back in style. If you work in a professional job you need to wear pantyhose. Younger people started no pantyhose and most of them don’t have professional jobs. 😾. PLEASE Don’t COMMENT. I don’t really care, this is just my personal opinion.
I don't think velcro is viewed as an 'old person's fastening' anymore. I bought two pairs of leather sandals for summer. They are youthful, stylish, and don't suffer by having velcro as the fastener.
So many TH-cam influencers have to spend time disclaiming! Drives me crazy! People can be so mean on line. I’m with you. Why did you click on the video if you’re not open to suggestions!
You made me laugh out loud with your comment about people who post saying “I’m going to wear what I want to!” I have often wanted to reply to them and say “Do you not have a life? Why are you watching and then being so nasty” but I bite my tongue. You said what needs to be said! Love your content!
Yes! I think a lot of people just enjoy being contrary and want to just stir the pot for fun. If they aren’t interested, they shouldn’t click on the video in the first place. Most of us get stuck in ruts, it is human nature to repeat things, but I like to get reminders of what might be out of style. Some things I like too much to give up completely (like skinny jeans), but I do appreciate getting tips and ideas for keeping modern in my appearance when possible 😊
@@sylly654 I don't think the problem is with being in style although I myself don't believe in changing my wardrobe every season and in fact have worn the same things for the last 20 years. The problem is that most don't have the money to spend on clothes 2 or 3 times a year. Consumer debt continues to grow and it's not pretty. Money you spend now isn't going to put food on the table when your older. Many married couples forget that when their spouse dies, there goes one Social Security check. My beliefs come from having to be self supporting all my life and living off of one income. If I spent money like the advertisers wanted me to I'd be struggling right now, but instead am helping other people keep their heads above water as well. Also, what makes me wonder about the desire to always be in fashion is, that it's not the clothes that make you who you are, it's your personality which comes from YOU and not the clothes. You could be the best dressed or most fashionable person in the room and still have the personality of a wet rag or a stone.
Also, makes me think that they are protesting too much. People who are confident about their style wouldn't bother to watch a style video only to announce that they don't care how they look, they're going to wear "XYZ" anyway. So go ahead and wear it anyway, why do you feel you have to make a big announcement about it?
You present your own opinion! Flowery trousers and flowery shirts are fantastic for summer time. And big beads are spectacular! And I look good wearing them.
Pantyhose -- a couple of years ago I purchase nude nylons and started wearing them with some dresses and pumps again - seriously, my legs just don't look good without hose anymore and I don't look polished without hose. Also, I am not wearing leg makeup, not happening! A good pair of sheer hose that match your skin tone can actually look great, regardless what the young girls are doing. I haven't worn my shark bite tops in years - why are they still in my closet, LOL!
Your sense of humor is great, I can always depend on you for a good laugh! I agree, why do people get so offended with saying things are dated? I agree completely with avoiding those styles! Great video Angela!
I just happened to come across this video and it is so relevant, especially since I will be turning 71 soon. I wear my hair long just below my shoulders, I wear make up and jeans - my weight is good. I take care of myself with appropriate eating and moderate exercise. I don't look young and I couldn't if I wanted to. I don't understand when you get older many ladies gain a ton of weight, cut their hair super short and wear very unsexy clothes. That is fine if you want to. You can be sexy at any age and you don't need to try and and look younger.. just be yourself and the best that you can be.
Well, once you let yourself go 100 pounds overweight there’s not much that will help. Short hair or long, but I do prefer to see clothing in the appropriate size worn.
Thanks for this. I am 43-I have an hour glass shape but am fit. I am going on a cruise in a few days and packed lots of more fitted t shirt dresses and I seriously am amazed how much younger I look in them!! They are flattering for my shape. I think dressing for our body types is also so important!!
In defense of the pantyhose… I wore some earlier this spring and it was mostly for warmth. I do live in a cold climate and while they don’t provide much - they do help when it’s still cold but I don’t want to be restricted to wearing high boots. I hear you on the hose but I think if you have some that fit you well, are the correct color and you are still wearing a closed toe shoe it’s fine. I also didn’t want to wear black since I had a black dress on and those nude/black Chanel inspired shoes - so had to go nude.
I wear pantyhose all different colors (mainly neutral) under boots with dresses. Live in MN. Its what happens up here. Its cold here half the year. Please everybody think for yourself. In the warm months, bare legs and self tanner.
Great video. I think you're right on about most everything. But I must inject that Princess Catherine, an icon of fashion, does in fact wear pantyhose, or "tights" as the Brits have it. ;)
Yes! In the cooler months I wear nude pantyhose with a dress or skirt. If it is good enough for Princess Catherine, it is good enough for me. My legs are very light so it is a better look. In the warmer months, I go with bare legs :)
Angela, you advised women who love wild prints not to follow you if it bothers them. I find much of your advice on point and love your videos. I am 82 and know neutrals are flattering, but i love color at this age and love to go wild and gaudy. I always get lots of compliments when I do. So, don’t worry if some of us don’t agree on flashy, we still love your fashion advice.
Guess what I’m on the way to purchase tomorrow? Yep pantyhose! For my 16yr old daughter that is required by a club at highschool to have bc it does make the girls look more professional and polished. 😅
Tell the truth… The club has something to do with dance. And the pantyhose or not for warmth or anything else but to make the girls look uniform when they dance. That’s what pantyhose are used for nowadays. For any kind of outfit or costume that requires all the girls to look one same style or color.
The reason older women like cold shoulder tops is that it allows them to show some skin without baring their upper arm, which is one of the places we tend to show age the most. Switching to lower necklines also can bare an area that also shows aging crepey skin. A lot of your advice may work for younger “old” people. Trust me, 40 is not old, nor is 50 compared to when you are over 70 and still wanting to wear an evening top or dress that still shows part of your body that may still look pretty good and makes us feel like we are still women. I would recommend a solid color for a cold shoulder top, probably black.
I disagree with the patterned pants. I think it depends on the print and cut. I saw several younger women trying on the patterned linen type pants at winners.
Some influencer recently said cold shoulders never go out of style! I have 2 new dresses with cold shoulders! I will wear them! I live in AZ where it’s over 100 for at least 4 months! I don’t care about fashion trends! I wear what I want!
Here is my two cents. It’s funny how some trends are not likable. I never liked shark bite hems. I never liked cold shoulder, never thought they were attractive. Lesson learned: just because something is in style, doesn’t mean you have to like it and embrace it. The only time I wore crop pants was when I was super skinny and thought it looked good. Now being a normal weight, I think it makes me look heavy, so I don’t wear anything above an ankle length. I disagree on the pantyhose. I wear them in a work environment with dresses where I am looking for that polished professional look. Funny, engaging video. Keep ‘em coming!
Yep. Never liked the cold shoulder tops. I got a shark bite top on markdown. Last one I ever got. Very hideous! My older (71 yr old) sister wears capris and jeans that fit tight at the ankle. Nope. Boot cut or bell bottom look better. I even have a men's slim cut Levi 511 that looks better than what women usually wear. Too often they look like they're stuffed in their jeans. I like printed bottoms, but my print pants have flowy movement. Current or trendy fashion doesn't always look awesome on every body. That is why some people look a hot mess out there. Quit following trends and dress for the body you have!
I found many of your tips very helpful for clothing suggestions. I, as a professional interior designer, would suggest you update your home background decor. Cold grey colors used extensively, have been out of date for at least the last five years. Considering adding some touch of color to your interiors.
Trends come and go-- and we pick the ones we like. Capri pants have many iterations. They are not "out." Yes, the baggy, loose ones are passe right now, but fashion magazines are showing the fitted legging style capris. The ones I see on older women are very loose pants that look frumpy but (of course) comfy.
As a vaccinating pharmacist, I’m still heartbroken and grieving, GRIEVING I tell ya’, for the disappearance of the cold-shoulder top! Not because I thought the trend was particularly attractive, but it sure made my life a heckuva lot easier during flu shot season! You’d be surprised at the number of topless people in pharmacy waiting rooms across America because we otherwise couldn’t get to their shoulders! 😂 In fact, a couple of my patients will reach deep into their closets and proudly resurrect their cold shoulders when coming in for their immunizations and it gives me the feels every time !❤🥰
I never really liked those tops, but I agree, my patients know they are coming for a vaccination and after all these years still think I can get to the deltoid from their forearm😂.
No one needs flu shots. Flu is a natural seasonal detox of the body, fever helps to remove toxins via mucus. If you don't have flu from time to time you have higher chances getting cancer.
Iris had her collection of things but she wasn’t in debt , it was her choice how much she owned and really wasn’t a problem. We all get to choose how we live . Iris took good care of her remarkable collection, any items will go to museums etc. ‘more is more and less is a bore’😂👍🏻👍🏻
I designed and sold jewelry and there is a time and place for it all. Teensey tiny jewelry is now very "IN" It gets lost on many larger women. Dressing to scale is as important as in interior furniture decorating.
Iris was a textile designer and found her nitch in jewelry and clothing could afford it and enjoyed it all. She could laugh all the way to the bank and windows of Bergdorf Goodman. She was a beloved icon.
If you live in Arizona and it's a 110 degrees, capri pants are an option for some older people. The cold shoulders are cooler too! I'm still wearing mine, and it looks better than flabby, wrinkly under arms. Loved to hear your opinion on all of it. 😅
I just turned 57, and I'll wear what I want. I don't care what anyone thinks of me. JUST KIDDING ... HeHe! 😂 I truly enjoyed this video. It was informative and hilarious! ❤
Very funny video. I agree with most of your suggestions. I am in my early 60s, and I admit I still wear sheer nude hose with a dress sometimes. They are so sheer they blend in well with my legs. I’m a soloist at my church and they just make me look so much more polished than bare legs. I say wear what you like and ignore the rest.
I think a traditional church altar/stage area is probably the only place where pantyhose would look appropriate. I'm kinda traditional, and even I ditched pantyhose 20+ years ago! But I also don't wear dresses, either! 😅
Great advice and tips! Half of those styles that are now outdated, I'd never purchased in the first place. I can't go bare legged unless I have self tanner on my legs. Not showing off my pale white skin and varicose veins. lol
It is best to be yourself at any age, good manners, proper communication, less hand movements in peoples face is very important at any age, it is much better than the clothes you wear, a smile is the best look on anyone 😍
What people wear at any age does not bother me - it is people showing “all their cash and prizes” for all to see - cover up - no cleavage or butt cheeks - also no gutter talk - I could care less if you wear florals or capris or stripes to big- act like you are a lady and get noticed for that - Dee ( yep .. been through every style out there-- love my age !!!! ) 😜❤️💕💐🧚🏻♀️💕❤️💐
I love ankle pants and joggers. I buy cooler material in summer , usually with a sun protection. There are so many cute ones now. I’m almost 70 and finally know what my “ uniform “ is. I love linen shirts and 3/4 shirts.
You know the problem is us older gals NEVER WEAR ANYTHING OUT! We just add a few new pieces every year, mic we can afford to even do that. I have the most beautiful Alfred Dunner tops hanging in my closet, but Never wear them. I am now 74 so I am old enough to wear them, but they are mostly to dressy for my life style. I was one of your earliest subscribers and I still watch almost every thing you put out. I want to remind everyone that your fifties and sixties are great decades ! Dress as beautifully as you can . Enjoy every day, stay active , learn new things, eat well, enjoy your romantic life and TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH.
I am 72 years old, I wear cold shoulder blouses and get so many compliments especially from the young girls and younger women. They want to know where I bought them. I wear capris , let me tell you the young men think I am sexy !!! I say wear what ever makes you comfortable and happy . If you are lucky enough to be older flaunt what makes you feel sexy !!!
I wish I wasn't getting older, but unfortunately, the years keep slipping by! However, I agree with all of your suggestions, Angela. We want to hang onto our youthful appearance as long as we can!!!
I like these kind of videos, because they prove to me that it's not about a universal style truth, it's about your personal opinions and taste. The self invented 'rules' and extreme confidence of the makers are kinda funny.
Excellent and sensible advice! Also I'd add a few things: - don't go for cheap and cheerful, especially with shoes belts and bags. But also jackets. You can lift a cheaper shirt or pants with a nice belt. But vice versa doesn't work too well - buy neutral colours that suit your undertone of your skin. Find out what your skin undertones are, and work only with that palette. This saves you money in the long run - do a fearless inventory of your body type, understanding the principles of proportion. If you're long in the torso, balance it out by having a lighter colour pants. There's a lot in proportion - generally speaking you can break rules only if you have given proper thought to it (eg. I have the wide stripes in a sweater I bought for winter...but it's in similar colours dark green and navy which makes the contrast less severe plus I'm tall and slim I can wear it on top of dark jeans) - loose pants are definitely preferable and the other thing is don't ever wear something that's too tight. It looks awful. - you can have beads on the wrist just the neck is out - pearls are always in fashion but don't have one solitary band, add more and don't compete with that elsewhere just keep your focal point limited. If it's the necklaces then no big earrings and vice versa.
I get it for sure but they are seen in a different light than most average folks. I feel they need to be more formal which is fine but I don't feel that is the average person
Catherine didn’t bring hosiery back. It was an unwritten rule that Queen Elizabeth II, required all Royal ladies to wear hosiery for formal, public occasions. Compliance was a sign of respect to HMTQ.
I'm not crazy about wearing them and normally don't wear them in the summer, but I don't think pantyhose are dated. When the temperatures are cooler, they look nice with a pair of dressy shoes. Clunky books with a dress just don't look that great in my opinion.
It is my first time watching this channel… you are very funny! I like what you said about switching to summer dresses to stay cool; they look so feminine too!
I am in my 70's..... The styles that you are showing are from the 60's, 70's, & 80's. (Except cold shoulder.) Sun dresses are from the 60's! Mom, & Grandma had a good time wearing those!!! T-shirt dresses are from the 70's... (High School) For me now? jeans (long, or cut-off- 70's+++++) and a top, be it print, or solid - etc is great!!! It suits most of my occasions, anyway! I'm a happy camper... Guess "style" doesn't matter to much anymore.
Interesting take on Capri pants. I know influencers have been recommending against them for the past decade or so, but I’ve recently seen several Gen Z fashion bloggers and influencers who say they are making a resurgence in the spring 2024 season. 🤷♀️ Maybe it’s all in the way you style them, as to whether you will look dated and older, or not. 🤷♀️
She just showed Capri pants in the 1st thing about brightly decorated pants. 😂 Also she looked good in the ones she was modeling. Actually looked younger in those than the all white linen that all the old ladies in the south wear.
Because she looks good in everything. Thin and tiny. I don’t have that blessing. I prefer ankle pants over anything but with my legs, it is hard to look good. 😢. So sometimes I have to wear what I can find.
Your thoughts on pantyhose were very funny! 😂 I wore a suit with skirt and pantyhose for years until pantsuits because socially acceptable in the work place. I rarely wore pantyhose after that. If you were fair it was difficult to find a hose color that didn't look too orangey.
I think that with bold patterns look fabulous on many in the streetvideos from Milan. I believe it's sometimes depending on our hair and skin colour rather than age. A lot of lovely outfits that look great when worn by someone with darker colours while if I as a typical scandinavian would look as if the clothes are out and taking me for a walk.
"I feel great in" clothes and "I feel like I look great in" clothes, are 2 different things for sure, because I feel great in my sweatpants, but I definitely don't look great. 🤣 Ha! LOVE your videos Angela!! You dancing in the floral top is priceless. 😂
Angela, you are hilarious ! I ;ove your sense of humor and cheerful personality. Great ideas for us older gals. I like your suggestions, they are most helpful Thanks for sharing!
I wear an incredibly sheer pantyhose i buy online thats from eastern Europe because i wear shortish skirts when dancing- i actually also use a bit of leg makeup so my 71 year old skin looks 🎉. But my arms😮.oh well
I agree with all of these except pantyhose. I will wear sheer black hose to a funeral with a black dress and very sheer nylons to an evening event. It’s easier to get by without pantyhose in summer when legs are tanned or can be touched up with leg makeup or spray.
I have never purchased or seen anyone who looks good in Capri pants, or those stupid looking long shorts that come down below the knee. I've never purchased the cold-shoulder tops either. Velcro shoes Ugh. Birkenstocks Ugh. I agree with all the ideas you have given to look modern and classy. Thanks for sharing.
LOL you are a hoot. I gotta admit I do have a pair of "stretchy wild lookin' house pants" that I slip on but the public will never see them...hello! totally agree with you and yes we are beginning to look like we are wearing old maternity tops.
I hope pantyhose come back! if they make anything you’re wearing look better they smooth cellulite If you’re wearing white pants. your legs look better. I get it during the summer with summer dresses but if you’re wearing a nice classy dress, please put your stockings on. Unless you’re very young and have attractive legs.
Nothing wrong with panty hose. Don’t think it is an aging/old look. Everything is too casual and there is plenty of laziness when it comes to appearance. Get a very neutral, nude color and your look will be so much nicer than bare legs.
Pantyhose were a nightmare for me…they always had runs….they didn’t fit well in the crotch so I sweated down there to beat the band…and they got baggy. I made the “no stocking” decision years ago. I will never ever wear them again and I’m better for it.
Thank you on the NO MORE CAPRI PANTS!! I have been saying this for years! Let’s just call them what they are-CLAMDIGGERS that our grannies all wore! 😅👵🏻
I don't even understand the original concept, it's kind of like long shorts, do you really think it's that much cooler for a quarter of a leg being exposed?? look how people dress in countries where it's always hot, they actually cover their entire body with loose flowing clothing...
Let me say this - if you’re old, you’re old no matter how you disguise yourself with makeup! Age does not fall backwards just because you put makeup on! Don’t panic, just be healthy and thankful for reaching a ripe old age and thank God Almighty for life’s blessings received!!!
this video is meant for those who care about looking at least their age and not older because of their fashion. if you dont mind looking older than your age, why even bother viewing this video?
I love your videos. I agree, if someone wants to just wear what they want, have at it, but why are they watching your videos? I get your point. Who wants to look OLDER than we are? I see lots of older women who dress in a way that is attractive and suits them. And there are styles out there that aren’t flattering on anyone, so it’s best to avoid them and you offer alternatives. THANK YOU!
Many of us older women are looking to appearing modern, not necessarily younger. There is a big difference.
Agree!!! she is boring
Agree, not boring, I like most of her videos. I just don’t know why people dress for and care what others think.
I was going to say the same. I agree with what she says but I just want to look good, I am not ashamed of my age.

I'm a full-figured woman. I love my bohemian style. It's comfortable and covers up a lot of flaws. I'm flawsome.
Flawsome! I love that. Stealing it. ❤
I too am a plus size Bahamian style at 67 . I LOVE it and get compliments all the time on my clothes which are 90% from thrift shops .
Why is everyone so petrified of getting or “ looking” older? It’s a privilege! After burying my 40 yr old sister this year, I’m just done with this. Every YT influencer over 40 is obsessed with staying young.
So sorry you lost your sister!!!
@@lindabolique72plus they don’t realize that in a blink of an eye they will be there.
Totally agree with you.
Make up sucks. I never wear it. But I like fashion.

Agree 💯💯💯💯💯
I substituted shorts for summer dresses.
I think that’s sweet. Little kids are just so precious when they do that
My son gave me a necklace with beads and plastic shrimp. I wear it on special summer occasions.
My son gave me a “beautiful orange diamond” ring. I still have it. ❤
I ve been watching you for along time and at this time I have 8 bags of outdated clothes on the porch to take to a thrift store. I’m 80 and still like to be stylin’!

I'm sure the 20 year olds will grab them up & make them stylish
Good for you! I feel as a young 70 year old its more about looking current (which means you feel and give off current vibes about life too) rather than looking young. Many ladies I know say they are not interested in fashion, then get upset when they get mistaken for older or just frumpy or past it in ideas, which is a bit contrary really.
I NEVER bought into the cold shoulder fashion fad. I always thought it looked so stupid.
Agree!
Yep. Never bought into that fad either.
Exactly! I am with you
The first time I saw one I thought it looked like something a prostitute would wear!
Totally!
I agree. My legs always looked good so capris are flattering on me.
Capris are very on trend this season!
Its all about the top you wear with it and what shoes. Flats or sandals can update it right away. Besides "capris" are pretty close to "cropped" pants so not a big deal.
You wear those capris Girl!
62 is still a baby!

When I was a kid capris were called pedal pushers. They were great when riding a bike. Boy am I dating myself!!
Just got a pair in plaid seersucker just for that purpose - pedal pushing. They're great for biking :)
We called them Clam Diggers.🧑🦳
Yes, pedal pushers! And pants that were ankle length were high waters!
I always thought pedal pushers ended right below the knee? Capris are longer. I prefer the pedal pusher length, but can't find them anywhere.
(Apologies to all older women who are comfortable in these sort of outfits.)
Somehow, I can’t give up fashion completely, even though I am an old lady!

Honestly, many believe pantyhose is still the professional look in a business setting. 😊 I wouldn’t want to see the bare legs of men in a professional setting and nor is it appropriate for women in the same context. I suppose if the hem hits really low on the leg, it might be less an issue. Just the opinion of some of us 😊
And yes on square toe - just bought a pair of flip flops last week and it caught me off guard, but they are square toe 🤷🏼♀️

Yes,a you said it; but they are still, sadly, posting such stuff!
Those blue decanters back there! May I ask where you found those?

Pantyhose -- a couple of years ago I purchase nude nylons and started wearing them with some dresses and pumps again - seriously, my legs just don't look good without hose anymore and I don't look polished without hose. Also, I am not wearing leg makeup, not happening! A good pair of sheer hose that match your skin tone can actually look great, regardless what the young girls are doing.
I haven't worn my shark bite tops in years - why are they still in my closet, LOL!
Absolutely. If your legs aren't great anymore, hose makes you feel happy to wear skirts and dresses .
Agree-! Panty hose or reg. hose much classier. But, lol, this gal is younger than me!
I agree. A lot of younger women have alot on their legs (veins, etc) that are NOT pretty.
Even if your legs are great, pantyhose or tights look great!
My legs look like I was recently in a train wreck! I am not doing any onlookers a favor by not wearing hose
Everyone is saying capris make a woman look older. I disagree. It’s all in how you wear them.
I agree. If you put them on, you look older. If you leave them in the closet and wear something else, chances are you'll look younger.
As long as the Capris hit your legs at the right place. Otherwise, they make you look truncated and fat.
I haven't seen anybody wearing capris in decades, they just disappeared.
@pepper1188 still pretty popular in my area. Connecticut.
@eve-1 With young women too?
Your sense of humor is great, I can always depend on you for a good laugh! I agree, why do people get so offended with saying things are dated? I agree completely with avoiding those styles! Great video Angela!
Thank you so much!!
Omg! Youre such a Michigander like me!!!!😂❤
I just happened to come across this video and it is so relevant, especially since I will be turning 71 soon.
Yup.
I also didn’t want to wear black since I had a black dress on and those nude/black Chanel inspired shoes - so had to go nude.
no pantyhose is for southern CA, FL and July and August in the other 48
I’m very elderly with great legs.
I like to wear pantyhose and shorts or minidresses.
Or just white-out my leg skin with Zinc Oxide and body powder.
I wear pantyhose all different colors (mainly neutral) under boots with dresses. Live in MN.
Its what happens up here. Its cold here half the year.
Please everybody think for yourself.
In the warm months, bare legs and self tanner.
Great video. I think you're right on about most everything. But I must inject that Princess Catherine, an icon of fashion, does in fact wear pantyhose, or "tights" as the Brits have it. ;)
That was my first thought as well!!
But, NOT with sandals...ugh!!
I think it's a requirement for Catherine.
Yes! In the cooler months I wear nude pantyhose with a dress or skirt. If it is good enough for Princess Catherine, it is good enough for me. My legs are very light so it is a better look. In the warmer months, I go with bare legs :)
Can't go to a midwinter in PA formal wedding with bare legs.
The Sketcher Slip On really work. I have a pair that I wore all this winter. Comfy, convent and stylish
I liken them, & they are easy to get on, but for some reason, really hard to get OFF!
@@MissJensk1 toe to heel and they come right off. For me anyway
I love mine ,got 2 pairs I have wore out!

I got a few "wild and gaudy" tops to signify retirement! I hear ya. And fit is everything, also Sketchers just did a slip in sandal!
The slip-on shoes from Skechers are one of the best inventions ever.
Unless you are allergic to LATEX! I loved min but can no longer wear anything but Keds!🥲
@@janievanhoozer8604 Wear them with tights!
Guess what I’m on the way to purchase tomorrow? Yep pantyhose! For my 16yr old daughter that is required by a club at highschool to have bc it does make the girls look more professional and polished. 😅
Walmart actually has a nice section now, pantyhose and tights.
They can't wear tights? Pantyhose are so uncomfortable, hot...and shiny.
yes and your daughter and club mates aren't in their 50s, trying not to look 75 ; )
Poor kid!!! If I were she I would get together with the other gals and protest pantyhose.
Your sense of humor in your videos always makes me laugh! These are great and spot on. Please let the cold shoulder trend die!😂😂
About the pantyhose I’ve got a lot of varicose veins how would I cover those if I stopped wearing pantyhose?
Thanks, you are so right. I will get rid of my cold shoulders and capris. You're very helpful and I like your personality
I disagree with the patterned pants. I think it depends on the print and cut. I saw several younger women trying on the patterned linen type pants at winners.
Yes!!
Youve just proved a point. YOUNGER women!
@@murielbuxton6993The point is they're not dated.

Yes, she’s not always clear
Yes to pantyhose!
Try them below the largest part of your calf. Otherwise, they give you stump legs!
Agree Shark bite and cold shoulder always hated..
That is very true❤
When I was young, I promised myself i would always stay fashionable. I refuse to wear all the clothing you suggest not wearing. Kudos for you!
In fact, a couple of my patients will reach deep into their closets and proudly resurrect their cold shoulders when coming in for their immunizations and it gives me the feels every time !❤🥰
lol. I’d rather just dress for it with a Tshirt
Same proud to say I never had a cold shoulder top
I never really liked those tops, but I agree, my patients know they are coming for a vaccination and after all these years still think I can get to the deltoid from their forearm😂.
No one needs flu shots. Flu is a natural seasonal detox of the body, fever helps to remove toxins via mucus. If you don't have flu from time to time you have higher chances getting cancer.
Things that didn't happen.
Iris Appel made big beads and lots of jewelry look amazing ♥️
Her and Wilma Flintstone!
Iris Appel was a gem but it was her style & she had a serious shopping addiction.
I agree with you on all these outdated clothes....however not everyone is a great size like you!

Not showing off my pale white skin and varicose veins. lol
If you have the bucks, they can inject spider veins to make them (almost) disappear.
It is best to be yourself at any age, good manners, proper communication, less hand movements in peoples face is very important at any age, it is much better than the clothes you wear, a smile is the best look on anyone 😍
Yes!! a pleasant and kind demeanor is the BEST accessory!😊
I agree with you. ❤

Yes! I am 65 and tend to wear a “uniform” that makes me feel comfortable and not stand out. Always open to new ideas ❤
You know the problem is us older gals NEVER WEAR ANYTHING OUT! We just add a few new pieces every year, mic we can afford to even do that.
Also I'd add a few things:
- don't go for cheap and cheerful, especially with shoes belts and bags. But also jackets. You can lift a cheaper shirt or pants with a nice belt. But vice versa doesn't work too well
- buy neutral colours that suit your undertone of your skin. Find out what your skin undertones are, and work only with that palette. This saves you money in the long run
- do a fearless inventory of your body type, understanding the principles of proportion. If you're long in the torso, balance it out by having a lighter colour pants. There's a lot in proportion
- generally speaking you can break rules only if you have given proper thought to it (eg. I have the wide stripes in a sweater I bought for winter...but it's in similar colours dark green and navy which makes the contrast less severe plus I'm tall and slim I can wear it on top of dark jeans)
- loose pants are definitely preferable and the other thing is don't ever wear something that's too tight. It looks awful.
- you can have beads on the wrist just the neck is out
- pearls are always in fashion but don't have one solitary band, add more and don't compete with that elsewhere just keep your focal point limited. If it's the necklaces then no big earrings and vice versa.
It was Princess Kate who brought back the hosiery, and she rocks it.
@@sassyt1545You are correct, I didn't word it correctly. Because she was young, the younger crowd decided it was cool.

I'm not crazy about wearing them and normally don't wear them in the summer, but I don't think pantyhose are dated. When the temperatures are cooler, they look nice with a pair of dressy shoes. Clunky books with a dress just don't look that great in my opinion.
Some peoples legs are really ugly. Very pale, large veins, bruises.

Your thoughts on pantyhose
were very funny!

Very, very sheer pantyhose like Hanes Silk Reflections are nice and do look better with a dressy dress or skirt than bare legs.
And what about bare arms? 🤨😆🤪 Stockings are supposed to attract men. Or they used to be.
After I retired from the workforce I swore off pantyhose.
I still where hose in the winter with skirts.
100% agree! I finally purchased them to match my skin tone a few years back to wear with some dresses, absolutely necessary to look polished, imo.
