This plot, like the ending of endgame, was already written into the comics a decade ago. This is how this handoff was supposed to go, it was designed intentionally to be a misdirect. The core problem isn't which other hero got the shield, the real problem is having one superhero pretend permanently to be another. Winter Soldier Captain America would have the same problem, but even worse, because he fought on both sides in the cold war, so there would always be some doubt as to his national superhero loyalty, which wouldn't make sense, for a hero so closely aligned with a particular country. In fact, having Bucky's loyalty be questionable IS his hero story arc, so trying to erase his history would also be awkward. If another character was going to be Captain America, it should have been another nobody who gets the serum, and not an existing hero shoehorned into the role.
@@sprinkle61 I agree. I wanted Bucky, or another underdog like Captain originally was, to get the Shield. Not promote Falcon to a role he wasn't meant for. They ruined 2 characters with this story.

Yep sure am ..and captain america is Steve Rodgers all know this ..sam as cap was a highly unpopular short shitty comic line that no one liked @@basicfilmblog
Just like how Redskull was who Schmidt was on the inside, Captain America was who Steve Rogers was on the inside. It was never a mantle to be passed down. Steve had the heart of a hero, the Super Serum just allowed him to act upon it. They established this in his debut. Falcon was *ALWAYS* just Captain America's yes man. He ALWAYS did as he was told. He has no character of his own. Giving the title to Falcon was meaningless. Also it bugs me how instead of bringing out the your true self, the super soldier serum just makes everyone look normal except for the super strength.
They ruined Falcon, a character they made interesting, played by a good actor. They ruined him by putting him in Captain America's shadow. The whole point of US Agent, was, he was an imitation of Captain America. An interesting story in the comics that didn't go well for the character. I doubt they will do that story arc with Falcon.
What a shame. All the elements are there for a fun, hard rockin film but they can't leave that ideology alone. Could have had the updated Falcon and his new sidekick (no need to make him Cpt. Serpent Society as villains? Why not? They had everything to make a solid good Marvel film. They had it all. But noo......
Another way they ruined Falcon. He was first introduced in The Winter Soldier as a counsellor for veterans with PTSD. He himself was an Air Force pilot who couldn’t save his wingman. The moment US Agent arrives on the scene, a man who is clearly suffering mentally, Falcon has no empathy for him.
The project was doomed the moment they decided to make Falcon the next Captain America. They failed even more when they decided to have him fight Red Hulk. Two characters from the comics who have no significant history with each other. How many times do we have to teach them this lesson, stick with the good source material.
They'd have known this would've failed if they had paid attention to the reception the Falcon Captain America comics got years ago. The comics where the same thing happened, and Falcon got the shield were not successful and were a short run. The comics where Bucky got the shield were better received. Still not as successful but more successful than when Falcon got the shield. And fans then were saying the same thing, making the same arguments as to why Bucky was more deserving than Falcon, and pointing out that Falcon was only getting the shield due to the intangibles, and not the merits.
@@Boskov01i don't get this passing around of the shield. Can we not just let the character die? Captain America is gone. This new Iron Man girl also isn't called Iron Man or?

The MCU, which is its own thing, COULD have positions 'Captain America' more to the latter than the former... but they would have had to actually put thought and effort to it and not just 'some guy gave a shield he didn't own to some other guy because he was standing there'.

Back in the day, filmmakers would write, shoot and edit a film...maybe do a test screening or two...maybe change a couple of things. Now, it seems like they just throw shit at a wall, clean the wall and throw more shit at the wall until they get a consensus thumbs up. It makes modern filmmakers look like castrated hacks that replaced artistic vision for broad, generic appeal.

Also why do they keep casting these 70 and 80 year old actors to play 50 and 60 year old characters in films and roles that are clearly intended for multiple movies, over multiple years, when the actors probably dont have that long left to live, let alone act. Especially with Harrison Ford who is 82 and who lost interest in acting years ago.
Ikr? It’s beyond embarrassing at this point. Just retire already Ford, people are tired of the same old cranky old man routine he plays in every film he’s in.
They could have shot three films worth of his material in that one film - cameo characters in this film may have a substantial role in another film so they could use this filming time to get scenes for that future film(s).
@FoxUnitNell Why bother? Cast a younger actor who can commit to multiple movies and would cost less. Marvel keep casting big names for roles that dont require them. Look at Groot voiced by Vin Diesel, casting him added millions on to an already huge budget and he literally said 3 word and unless you already knew it was him you wouldnt have noticed.

@JamesScottSelfDefense19 Bucky was Cap first and it was actually interesting. Well received, but they forced him out of the same plane of existence to give Falcon the shield.
@JamesScottSelfDefense19 Which, if they wanted to do it again; they could learn what not to do. However, having him as captain america is just flawed; so no matter how much you work on such an idea, it will never work.
Even if brave new world, makes 1 billion dollars, it's still going to flop massively. Bc of the budget, marketing budget and theaters taking their cut. And Disney/marvel studios deserve to have another massive failure.
Disney just needs to cut its losses and cancel the movie. Admit that Steve Rogers is the only Captain America, and stop trying to shove a DEI Captain America down our throats.
DEI Captain America sounds super racist, of you have an actual argument you might want to go with that instead. Point out how Captain America without the super soldier serum is just a dude with a shield. Maybe that Falcon was a good enough character in his own right and doesn't need to be Captain America. Is there a problem with the writing you can point out? "DEI Captain America" just sounds like you don't like it just because it's a person of color.

It doesn’t help that Anthony Mackie is a giant D-bag in person (watch his interviews) and Harrison Ford is worse. Both are entitled and ungrateful to the fans or anyone who helped them get where they are. Zero interest in this.
It's funny that people in general watch movies for its escapism from everyday life, to be entertained, unfortunately the people making entertainment forgot that and are either preaching at us or shoving ideology instead of a story. I hope they all go bankrupt and have no choice but to hire people who actually want to entertain and are qualified instead of the DEI shills we have
Consider roughly the same money also being poured into Snow White and you have to wonder when the shareholders are going to demand Disney stop wasting capital on these doomed projects.
Marvel should have made Bucky (Captain's best friend and super soldier) the next Captain America. I will never be interested in a Sam Wilson Captain America character.
Bucky should have been Captain America honestly, he was being set up to be. Sam has his own identity as the Falcon, if Disney is all for checking boxes, then give Falcon his own spotlight. If a character like Penguin can have a great show then so can Falcon. I know they had a Falcon/Winter Soldier show, but that show was ass with horrible writing.
The comics storyline of Bucky accepting Cap’s shield and becoming Cap was handled quite well, he accepted it reluctantly due to his time as the WS, and he began to atone for the things he did while he was WS while honoring Steve’s legacy.
There is an interesting precedent: Michael Cimino's "Heaven's Gate" - an ultra-critical leftwing revisionist Western had its main theatrical release in April 1981 ... 3 months after Ronald Reagon had become US president. There had been a similar "get Democrat Jimmy Carter out and Republican Reagan in" in 1980, stranding "Heaven's Gate" on the wrong side of history. The film was also incomprehensively expensive at the time, bankrupting its studio, United Artists, which was then acquired by MGM. Is history repeating itself?
Unless you read the comics, where Sam is the one who takes over as Cap. Buckey has only ever played Cap for short amounts of time. Plus, if you think about it, no it absolutely doesn't make sense for Buckey "turned into a sleeper agent for Russia/Hydra for 60 years and still has PTSD about it" Barnes to be put into a position where the country, much less the government, would not only trust him but hold him as a symbol of "American liberties" (as propagandic as that is, it is technically one of the functions of Captain America.)
@michaelmaguire4147 The comics are irrelevant, because no one really reads that stuff. It made more sense to make Bucky the next CA because he's a character out of place, just like Steve was, when he came off ice. Also, he has the Vibraniun arm, which also helps with overall marketability. It's about doing what makes financial sense. Any replacement needs to fill as much of the criteria as the original does.....him being white also helps with that. There aren't many characters that race swapping ever worked for.
Bucky was Cap for almost a decade. They actually forced him out of the same plane of existence in Original Sin just so they could give the shield to Falcon. They couldn't even do it organically. I keep hearing he shouldn't because of his past, but Hulk went on rampages that hurt lots of people. Tony Stark was a war monger. Thor was war hungry and nearly brought the frost giants into conflict with Asgard. None of these characters were perfect from the get go, but they've become beloved heroes. If anything Bucky's past would give him a bit of an edge, which would make things interesting. The brainwashing is gone, and he's not being helped by constantly feeling sorry for himself. Not to mention he's an actual Veteran that fought in World War 2. He definitely holds up the values of America. Land of opportunity. A chance at redemption.
IT'S the little things like... Sam (yes WITH shield) up against Red Hulk? EVEN THE TRUE Captain America thought long and hard about tackling the green beast and HE HAD a boosted body! Sam DOESN'T.. WTF? 🤨
With the exception of somehow impressing the investors, any financial advisor would say this is a terrible idea. It would have been better to rip the bandaid off, release it, and let it fail than doing reshoot after reshoot. The cost of reshooting is expensive, and doing it again and again sends a message to your audience that the movie is damaged beyond repair. Imagine spending $300 mil knowing you'll get $100 mil in return. But you're now spending $700 million in hopes of getting $200 million in return.
He's already replaced. Ironheart is a black lesbian teen who is his successor in the movies and had her first appearance in Black Panther 2. They have a movie already slotted for her. I wish I was joking, but it's true.
Here's what you do. You make the Captain America story about Bucky Barns. We know his story and he has the built in arch of him trying to live up to his child hood friends legacy. How to feel worthy after all he's done. Then make a separate Falcon movie showing all the cool stuff he can do.
But that would require admission of failing to know what the audience wants. That will never happen. The heads behind this movie and Marvel Studios in general are egotistical, self-serving, ideological, narcissists. They would rather cut their own nose off in order to spite their own face than admit they made a fundamental mistake. Everyone and their mother knows the Falcon should not be Captain America. It's not rocket science, yet to them, it will be.
Bucky is a terrorist, who just got a pardon, and just completed therapy. He still has PTSD. The government don't want Bucky as Cap and respect Steve's choice. When Sam refused it, they got John Walker. Sam is just as much Steve friend as Bucky is. Falcon has heart, leadership, Bucky and Steve somewhat reunited as friends in Civil War. Neither should be Cap, bring Steve back.
@kicknowledgesmith8608 sorry but NO..even when Steve had nothing he had Bucky. Bucky and falcon are nowhere near the same as friends towards Steve. Even falcon was reduced as being jealous of everyone who had any connection with Steve other than him
@@Bye-manN7 yea 75 years ago, he didn't even know Bucky was alive until Winter Soldier. They were barely friends in modern day. He spent most of that time trying to save Bucky with Sam's help. Sam had a support group for vets, he has a heart like Steve's. him and Sam were best friends in modern day. Being Steve's friend isn't a qualification for being Cap. Steve chose Sam for the same reason the scientist chose him! Why would Steve hand the shield to Bucky. in this story over Sam?! Sam earned it without a doubt! Bucky was in a bad place in Endgame, before the snap, he was in Wakanda trying to rehabilitate. Bucky respected the decision and was mad at Sam for rejecting it. They messed up not giving the shield to Bucky, which they were clearly setting up In the cap trilogy and on
This plot, like the ending of endgame, was already written into the comics a decade ago.

The whole point of US Agent, was, he was an imitation of Captain America. An interesting story in the comics that didn't go well for the character. I doubt they will do that story arc with Falcon.

Interesting? All he did was fly around with a glider.

Didn't Falcon take up the mantle in the comics?
They do understand that Brave New World was a dystopia, right?
The project was doomed the moment they decided to make Falcon the next Captain America. They failed even more when they decided to have him fight Red Hulk. Two characters from the comics who have no significant history with each other.
How many times do we have to teach them this lesson, stick with the good source material.
"How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man??"

Bucky himself didn't even want it, it's like no one is paying attention. Just say you don't want Sam as Cap, that's fine, all these excuses like he doesn't have serum and Bucky was his childhood friend is nonsense.
@@kicknowledgesmith8608 Movies are made for the audience. Bucky and Falcon being poorly written is not an excuse. In the movies, Bucky has the story arch of not being worthy but everyone needs him to be. That movie practically writes itself. In face, I wouldn't make two movies I would just call it Captain American and the Falcon. Falcon can help him live up to the mantle.
I don't know why Marvel can't just put out some decent action adventure/sci-fi/fantasy films featuring their best characters that do not have to be part of some grand interconnecting universe?!!
I would probably be interested in seeing some Spiderman (Hulk, Wolverine etc...) stories that just dealt with a stand alone premise, villain, throw in a little personal drama maybe throw in the rare guest superhero crossover character that only very vaguely suggests a "cinematic shared universe and let each character movie/series sink or swim on it's own merits.
The term "budget" indicates that it was a planned process. I think the simple terms "cost" or "expense" would be more accurately. What a cluster. Poor Sam.
Don't forget the marketing budget. That's gonna be another $100 Million at least.
At this point they might as well just burn money, at least somebody can keep warm for a bit.
gotta pay all those DEI consultants
