Patching my epic camper paint fail!

  • I decide to attempt to save myself from a big financial hit and patch my epic camper paint fail rather than start over from the beginning. So my 1983 classic coachman camper remodel took a dark turn when I decided it was good enough to pressure wash the vintage travel trailer and use a paint and primer rather than washing, sanding, priming, and finally painting the camper. Well this renovation took a big hit when the paint started peeling cleanly off, particularly in the areas that I had used painters tape to create a design. This diy fail had me real upset but I decided it was time to see if I could limit the damage and repair the peeled areas where I screwed up. So I started by sanding the surface and roughing it up of these paint fail areas and then cleaning the surface of the classic camper. After that I got a spray can of self etching primer which basically is acidic and roughens up the smooth surface. After the primer dried I painted multiple coats of the paint and free handed the lines in order to avoid the same problems I had originally with the painters tape. This massive fail really got to me and I am not positive the paint job on the coachman will last permanently but I do believe my patch work will hold up. I have learned a valuable lesson in why it is important to do things right the first time and can say that isn't a mistake I plan to make again. Despite my paint fail I believe this exterior paint job and the vintage travel trailer are looking absolutely great! Not too bad for an amateur diy weekend warrior who is doing the best he can with no formal training.

I know what you mean by seeing your mistakes, but honestly it looks beautiful in your videos.
