Best car I ever had (have). Only issue really is that the wheels are very low-profile and I've ruined 2 tires (not wheels) in 2 different potholes (in Boston). Did get reimbursed, luckily. GREAT GREAT CAR THOUGH! My advice would be to GET THE WHEEL INSURANCE if you are leasing.. Sleep better at night that way :)
I have a mk7 R that came with the stock 19s. Ride was bumpy as and two of the tires blew out on separate occasions within 6 months. Tires in 19 are also mad expensive so for the same price as just new tires would've cost I got a full set of 17 inch wheels and tires mounted. Ride quality difference is astronomical, I haven't felt basically any difference in performance, and those tires lasted me over 2 years of abusing them even after moving to an area with 5x worse roads/potholes than where I lived when the 19s blew
My 2022 Blue Golf R is identical to yours. My winter rims are the same design and black like yours but matt finish, and my summer tires have the chrome on black. i love both. Hard to believe winter rims can look so awesome after having a gti with steel winter rims.
@@jerryscary2602nice. I paid same. Stick or DSG? You are gonna love it. Make sure u create custom profile and soften the suspension or you will kill it on all the roads. My favorite car to date. Constant smile.
That manual was pulled straight out of the mk7 and they cant handle too much torque hence vw couldnt make the golf r more powerful in NA cuz thay way the manual and DSG would have too much power difference.
I got the 2024 R with the 6-speed and do love it. For my part I don't find the steering too light but that's gonna be personal preference. The infotainment is fixed from most major issues but alas the haptic slider stuff is all there. AND, the climate control and volume are not illuminated at night so pretty big fail with that. I saw that the Gti now has the regular buttons but maybe that is on the '25 models? I'm seriously going to look into if it's possible to retrofit the Gti wheel with real buttons, or maybe the '25 R will have real buttons and can retrofit that. It really is that bad!
Is it truly always AWD or is it FWD and then sends power to rear when needed? It would be nice to have reviewers do a bit more critique... the shift knob is terrible, the exhaust sound is fabricated (terrible), the shifter itself is a rubber band... ive been driving VAG cars for 25 years, i know them well and its ok to do a good critique with some negatives cause its not ALL good with these cars. U really need a short shift kit and new shift knob. Could use a stage 1 flash. Clutch pedal is way too light too. Its still a great car and im on a waiting list to get one.
Handsome is a really nice way to say boring looking LOL. Especially versus it's two likely competitors, the Type R and the GR Corolla. Subjectively I have to say I really dislike blue accents on cars. It annoys me that the GTI gets red. I will say though against the cars that I mentioned above the Golf R is the best value in terms of features. In my opinion. I just couldn't get excited about driving one as pedestrian as they look.
I use to live near Waukesha, WI. Worked for Khols near Menomonee falls. Love the area, people. Missed those days... I’m from TO, ON, CA. Picked up my R three days ago. Enjoy your R.

You just need to maintain them properly. The MK7 gen with the EA888.3 engine version finally became reliable. No more timing chain issues. It still has water pump leaking issues, but that’s an easy and fairly cheap fix. The water pump is basically the only thing that goes wrong on it, that is a big item. But you will get little things here and there, but as long as you maintain the car, it will last a long time. The same goes for the MK7.5/MK8 gens too. Pretty reliable. BUT, a lot of people mod them and don’t pay attention to the way they take care of their car when modded. For example, pops and bangs tunes will destroy this engine, and a lot of people run them. Not good. I personally know three guys who have blown their motors on their MK7 GTI’s running pops and bangs EQT tunes. None of them even made it to 100k miles. I personally have a MK7 GTI and almost have 180k miles. Runs perfectly fine and I am the original owner and tuned it at 2k miles.
@@JacesOwnWorld Most pops and bangs tunes are overexaggerated and thus poor results. natural pops and bangs are where it's at. Subtle, but present. Or get a 7-speed sequential and have the auto cut which will make a good bang.
I actually travled out of state to AZ to buy one at sticker. In the SF Bay area, cheapest I could wheel and deal was $5K over sticker. Even with 3 plane flights, 1000 mile drive home and added titling/reg hassles It was worth it!
@$52k? Whew things are getting super expensive... And I wouldn't do anything VW till they get the infotainment UI issues resolved. Resolved. Resolved. HELLO VW?
Special thanks to our Patreons for their support of the channel! Golf R or Type R
Golf r and not even a question
I have both. Mk8 R. No question.
So here's a big question for you, a new Golf R or a lightly used M340i? I'm really torn between the two atm.
@@nobleman-swerve new golf R 100%. If it ain’t an actual M, not worth it.
After experiencing all wheel drive, front wheel drive is not an option.

If went back to a Golf it would either be an R or the base model GTI. I like the fun factors they added to this generation of R.
The steering depends on mode you’re in.
The 2025 is looking nice
Not the afterthought looking iPad on the dash.
Greetings from a VW Golf 8 R 2024 driver from Dubai.❤

Congrats! Likewise. Picked up mine three days ago in TO, CA. Best car!
Yeah I was going to say it's not the 2024 ! But you cleared it up pretty quick
Are dealers still marking these up?
By me in NY I bought one for sticker and no mark up 3 months ago. Didn’t even have to haggle. Super easy deal
Varies by region, west coast and Florida suck. Everywhere else it isn't hard at all to find at sticker.
I got my 24 today for 49k

Why would you advertise this video as a 2024…I don’t care if it’s identical you still can’t do that

Love my 2024 Golf R in Back and Manual 😎
Unless it is different in your area, the 2024 does NOT have that steering wheel type of logo. On the 2024 VW is flat, at the center of the wheel.
Great review!!
Can’t do the manual. The DSG turns this car into a mini monster
bought one climate control is annoying everything else havent tried the drift mode

So will the Gti have a manual option in 2025?
No
Copped a manual had to be done!
