Error 5 is for your hard drive not being locked. Error 7 is usually for a missing hard drive. Error 11 is for your Xbox not detecting a CD drive. Error 13 is for your dashboard failing to launch and your Xbox couldn't specify why it failed. Error 16 is for a missing or dead clock capacitor. The most common one in this list is Error 16. The clock capacitor is prone for leaking (1.0 to 1.5 original Xbox systems).

You'll need to have the eeprom info from the XBox that has the error5 also, for Chimp 261812 to use to relock it. You'll need to upload the eeprom.bin file into the second XBox. IF YOU HAVEN'T, WATCH THIS VIDEO IN FULL, I GO QUICKLY SO YOU DON'T GET BORED. IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DO. @@bigbeardedbeastcollector9404 They say certain drives are picky with burnt media, depending on the type of disc you burnt it on (DVD-R vs DVD+R vs CD-R), but I've not had any issues with any media being incompatible with any other brand drive, and I have 20 or so XBox's. So your burnt games may or may not wok, judging from information online. But they may have had a dirty lens, failing laser pickup, etc. I really suggest you just rip them back to your computer as an ISO and use a harger HDD to store and play them, which having the second XBox will help you relock and clone your hard drive to a larger drive. My suggestion is to just buy one STOCK on the cheap. Look on Craigslist. I go to Savers (thrft shop) here, and have found them for as low as $5. On average, you should pay no more than $15 for a fully working one. Then buy a softmod kit on eBay that comes with the necesary cables, game, and memory needed. That will be about $25. Do the softmod like I instruct in one of my past vdieos- either Rocky5's or SID. Then upload Chimp to your XBox via FTP, relock your old HDD. Whether you want to keep the extra hardware is up to you, but I would keep it as a means to fix your XBox should anything happen to it again, or if it should catastropically fail in the future. $50 for a softmodded XBox sounds reasonable, but personally, I'd be happy if I could sell one for $30.
Hey, so I just got my hands on the OG Xbox. It was working fine and playing games until it started lagging really bad and so I thought it was overheating or something. I powered it off and to let it cool. Again because I thought it might need it. When I tried to power it back on the thing wouldn’t open the disc drive and I got an error screen saying I needed to send it in for maintenance. It pulled an error 11. I took it apart and cleaned everything. Motherboard and such. Then I took apart the disc drive and cleaned it as well as replaced the drive belt as well as check for continuity and retinned the solder points. Sadly not positive result. Still getting the same error. Do you think my disc drive circuit board died?
I just got back from work and can confirm that my shipping from Arrow was indeed free overnight FedEx shipping. It didn't exactly go perfectly but I'm kind of glad it didn't so I can explain how their customer service was. I had an ~$37 order full of parts to completely recap a 1.0 revision Xbox, power supply and all (plus a few extra goodies not related to the Xbox). Everything was nicely put in anti-static bags and bigger items like a few 8 pin DIN connectors I bought came in their own little boxes with anti-static cushioning inside, really nice touch. The shipping boxes they used were huge by the way (at least for the amount of parts I ordered), and actually split up my order into two boxes. A lot of brown packing paper was also used. Everything seemed "over protected" and I was pretty impressed until I saw that a glass fuse I ordered was cracked. It was in its own bag but had zero protection, no bubble wrap no cushioning whatsoever. I contacted their customer support and here is my first downside to Arrow. Their customer support is a little convoluted. Normally with Digikey or Mouser, their live customer support will give you a replacement then and there. You basically just tell them something was missing or arrived broken and you get a new order with the replacements. But with arrow, the rep told me I had to make a new order on my own, email my new order number to a support email, contact live chat again, ask to get transferred to the same first rep if I didn't get them again (I had to ask to get transferred), and then finally the representative could "zero out" the price of the new order with my replacement glass fuse. Keep in mind that throughout the live chat process, their replies were also what I consider slower than average. Overall, it wasn't anything horrible but it was certainly a somewhat time wasting process with a lot of hurdles. I don't understand why the representative just didn't have the power to make a new replacement order then and there. But it worked out in the end and I got my free replacement part. Let's hope this one gets some protection and doesn't show up cracked like the first one. But overall, my experience was good. The prices are cheaper than their competitors, they have a good selection of parts, 98% of their parts come well packaged, and the free overnight shipping was indeed a thing.
LOL. Yeah, that's something I completely forgot to mention. Live support is horrendous. I had issues with them claiming I had to fill out customs papers for items shipped from Europe. I dealt with both live and phone support, as I wasn't made aware that it was the customer's responsibility for customs. Make sure you order parts that's being shipped out from the US. I know what you mean about Mouser. I used them exclusively for the past few years, and their customer service is top notch... almost apologetic. The even shipped out an item for me for free when I called trying to add a part to a web order, and they shipped it separately for free, as the order was already shipped. Tech support is even better as I found a cap to be not sized correctly compared to the specs listed on their website. They connected me directly to their stock person in the warehouse and specs were contirmed wrong on their website, and everything was taken care of very quickly, and without hassle. BUT, that will have to take a backseat to me saving money and getting the parts quickly. Can't believe they didn't "overprotect" the fragile stuff, and they overprotect the others. From my experience, they even ship out in multiple boxes from one order. And all are oversized. Half the time, the are WAY WAY oversized, and even ship out oversized cardboard reels for a minimal amount of connector pins. But glad you tried them. BTW, why don't you start a channel? Looks like you do a lot of repair. Oh, and Patrick Nagel fan? I got Duran Duran's RIO LP jus to hang as art. 80's kid here, so I can appreciate it. Nostaglic and brings me back to when I was a kid.

Had I known that sooner, I wouldn't have ordered those 12 10uf Panasonic FR caps from them, they're currently scheduled for shipping from the Netherlands on the 26th. Fingers crossed that they don't bug me with customs papers. The fact that they didn't put more care into the more fragile stuff really surprised me too. I mean it's a glass fuse, it really doesn't get more fragile than that. If it was a ceramic fuse the bag would have been full of sand... Yeah, it comes with the territory when you have a console that depends on a hard drive. If you messed aroud with PCs and built them, you know the territory.
I treid uninstalling SID 5.11 from the uninstaller before, and it kept saying it could not delete shadow C, if I remember correctly. And I ended up deleting some files manually, and it gave me an error 13. And I pulled the plug, then an error 16. I was trying to recreate that scenario, and was surprised that the uninstaller for SID 5.11 worked. Even more suprised when it still worked when I installed SID 5.11 over XBox Softmodding Tool and it still didn't have an error, as in the past, when I did that, an error 13 popped up on another console. Seems like softmods react differrently on the different revision XBoxes.

@@CrazyPCgamercatguy You're going to need a working modded XBox as your recovery machine. You also need a dumped EEPROM from your error 5 XBox. If you don't have the EEPROM, you can build the cable that I show in the video. @@The_SegaHolic I tried to flash the modchip's bios but failed. The problem is I had the HDD unlocked and now I get the error 5 (since the modchip does not work). I have ordered a new modchip to install but at the moment I can't use the Xbox at all because of the error 5. I have been looking for a way to connect the Xbox HDD to the PC and locking it again with a program. I had pressed on the "backup EEPROM" but I don't know if it did anything. I wonder if this XBoxHDM-2.3-Beta4 USB would work.. If you can suggest any programs able to see the Xbox HDD on the PC would be very helpful. I will certainly build the cable for, if nothing else, just to try it! :)

I've an error 13 after trying to installthe last version of Rocky5 and the last version of MS dashboard. After the install, when I ejected the Extras Disc DVD , error 13 occurs. I can't read any non-original DVDs, so I can't run Extras Disc DVD anymore. I run Halo 2 game in order to update and fix the MS dashboard, but the MS dashboard wasn't fixed and I'm still freeze on Error 13. I don't even the expoit save files on HDD. What can I do? I'm panicking...

The Sega Holic Another high production value and informative video from Sega Holic. Out of sheer curiosity, I checked out that Arrow website you talked about in your video. I thought that surely the "free" overnight shipping would be paid for by charging more money for the parts. I found the exact caps you used in the video, Rubycon YXG 1500uf 6.3v, on Arrow and Digikey. It costs $0.32 per cap on arrow and $0.65 per cap on Digikey. The only thing I think arrow doesn't have is bulk discount pricing but to get close to Arrow's pricing, you'd have to buy at least 100 of those caps on Digikey. And to top it all off, Arrow offers that free 1 day shipping. HOW DO THEY DO IT? I wonder how their parts stock compares to the giants, Digikey and Mouser. Surely there must be some downside to Arrow? I'd be very interested in hearing how you found out about Arrow and how your experience was ordering with them. How were the components packaged as well? Digikey and Mouser do a good job putting everything in anti-static bags, and sometimes bubble wrapping delicate parts like 20mm glass fuses. Arrow does have bulk discount, which differs on different items. AND THERE IS NO DOWNSIDE TO THEM. I've passed by one of their warehouses in Arizona, and it was huge. They even have a European presence as some of their components and parts get sent from there. Crazy thing is, when they say there is NO MINIMUM FOR FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING, IT'S REA.L. I've ordered parts that came out to just over $1, and it was sent, overnight... here in 2 days. Incredible. I don't have any sponsorship from anybody. Seriously. I just like to share good sources. If you watched my past videos, I've ordered from Mouser and Digikey in the past. I used to prefer Mouser, but shipping cost and availability is key to where I order. The Sega Holic I'll most definitely have to check out Arrow, especially after the glowing review you gave them. I can't believe I haven't heard of them before. Even when I browse hobbyist forums, I don't think I've ever seen someone mention Arrow. I've never had problems with shipping or availability because I live in California. But the shipping costs for me certainly add up, especially since I usually upgrade to USPS priority because I don't like waiting. Maybe Arrow relies on high volume ordering big businesses to make most of their profit and is just nice enough to pass on cheap prices and free shipping to us low volume plebians. Big thanks for that coupon code as well. I have a couple of projects sitting on my work bench and I can't think of a better time to try out Arrow for myself. I would have absolutely zero problems if it was a sponsorship, just thought I would ask. You also give me too much credit on the caps, although it's quick you do give a decent zoom in on the caps you ordered in the video. That's how I was able to find the ones you ordered. However, I have something I'd like to bring up about those specific caps you replaced. Those caps that have an all silver housing are located around the CPU. The specific type of cap used there is important because it needs to be very low impedance and work well with high frequencies. They essentially work like battery wells that the CPU sucks from. Obviously CPU workloads and calculations differ greatly by the fraction of a second. And when the CPU goes from minimal usage to intensive loads in fractions of a second, those caps provide the CPU with bursts of power. That's why those replacement caps should be rated to handle high frequencies and have an ultra low impedance. That would be a much better job for a good quality polymer capacitor, typically the type used in PC motherboards. But I think the added high frequency stress might affect those Rubycons. Or maybe not. To be fair those Rubycons are well made, but polymer caps are perfect for high frequency applications. And you might be able to find better polymer caps, the Nichicons just came up after a half quick search.
Definitely give Arrow a go. You won't be disappointed. And like you said, I'm a bit baffled by how they are going so unoticed at the moment. The Free Overnight shipping has been in effect for several months now, As far as the caps go, there was no differentiating markings on them, besides the cap ratings. Obviously, for a novice like me, seeing all the available capacitors with the same ratings and reading their respective data sheets makes my head spin. I know Nichicon has about what.... about 10-20 different lines of electrolytic caps. Some are geared toward music, and others are "ultra low impedance." To be honest, I went for the cheapest I could get. But thanks for for clarifying on electrolytic vs Polymer and why it's vital to use the right one for CPUs. I should have paid more attention as I was reading up on the various caps, and made mistakes in my PC-Engine RGB adapter that I made about a year ago. Like what caps to use for noise filters on power lines... and when to use ceramic vs electrolytic vs tantalum. What made me re-read up on it was when I found out that the Clock caps on these OG Xboxes are gas type caps. Should have paid more attention in my electronics classes years back. Scary to think how much we forget over our lifetimes. LOL. Are you an engineer? You seem to know your stuff. As far as rated life hours go... are we really going to play with our XBoxes for 2000 vs 5000 hours? We have so much avaiable to us today, as far as what takes up our time. Again, thanks for pointing that up. I'll bring it up surely, when I need to replace capcitors the next time on the next project.
Segaholic, I removed rocky5's softmod to go back to stock on a spare original xbox I had and now it has an error 16. I used the option to revert back to the stock dash. Do I need to use another xbox that's already softmoded to repair this problem? I don't have the proper expertise on soldering for a modchip on the board.

My fiance's Xbox worked just fine it wasn't shut off wrong or anything. we put it up in the closet pulled it back out a few months later and an errors popping up but with no code. Does that mean that the hard drive is fried?

Yeah, I thought I showed how to relock you HDD in this video. Error 5 is unlocked HDD. Sorry, it's been so long since I've messed around with the XBox. My 1.6 softmodded wont boot...i get black and yellow screen...no error screen... Is this a video mode error... ...i cant boot games anymore on a confemed working dvd drive
Motherboard and HDD have to be matched with the same keys. You’ll have to extract they keys from the MB’s bios using Pony Prog. The directions are in here. Then you’ll need to format the HDD and lock it using the keys from the MB.

@@deanzeineddine1221 No, you need the keys from the dead paired motherboard that the hdd was originally paired with to unlock it. You may still be able to extract the keys from the bios chip, but it’ll be an advanced task.

He showed how to do it in the video, the only difference is that you don't want to clone a working drive, but instead use the softmodding tool extras disc to reinstall the dash and then use chimp to fix error 16

I heard it will, but I don't have.a PC with IDE. I'm guessing you didn't save your EEPROM. If you have another XBox, a PC with serial ports, and make the LPC dump cable, the method shown in this video is pretty easy to do.

Back up the EEPROM, then just FTP it to a working Xbox's X, Y, or Z directory. Use Chimp to lock the drive. For more information, watch the Error 16 part.

@Jenny Rok I think the mod chip on my xbox is fried. or the wiring has come loose. i don't really know this stuff since my xbox was already modded when i bought it. I did read somewhere that I could connect the HDD to my pc and soft mod it, i might give that a try

@@zionmohl5107 Go to the thrift shops around your area and buy a cheap one. Then softmod it yourself. That way, you aquire tools that can help you fix your XBox when and if it breaks again. And you can get it for cheap. Again, hopefully you saved your EEPROM, otherwise you'll need a PC with a serial port and build an EEPROM reader to get your EEPROM.

Ok but i had soft modded my xbox it froze i reset it and now i have error 7 i have the stock hard drive i have not did anythubg to the jumper for that to cause error 7
That is actually a Sony portable DVD player. Good thing about these old DVD players, is that some of them have line-in capabilities, and let's you use them as an external monitor.
The Sega Holic I also have one that the error code is 7 but I haven’t switched the jumper before I tried setting it to master and slave but it just makes a clicking sound like the arm just runs across the platter of the disc ?
Well, for the error 16 one, you should just fix it using the methods I showed here... Chimp 261812. Obviously, you need a working XBox. For the error code 7, looks like you have a bad HDD. Maybe the arm is stuck. I never tried to mess wiith a HDD personally. They are very, very fragile. With the clicking, definitely not a jumper issue... if you end up having to replace the drive, you'll have to dump the EEPROM and build another HDD

Error 5 is for your hard drive not being locked.
Error 7 is usually for a missing hard drive.
Error 11 is for your Xbox not detecting a CD drive.
Error 13 is for your dashboard failing to launch and your Xbox couldn't specify why it failed.
Error 16 is for a missing or dead clock capacitor.
The most common one in this list is Error 16. The clock capacitor is prone for leaking (1.0 to 1.5 original Xbox systems).

@@bigbeardedbeastcollector9404 They say certain drives are picky with burnt media, depending on the type of disc you burnt it on (DVD-R vs DVD+R vs CD-R), but I've not had any issues with any media being incompatible with any other brand drive, and I have 20 or so XBox's. So your burnt games may or may not wok, judging from information online. But they may have had a dirty lens, failing laser pickup, etc.
I really suggest you just rip them back to your computer as an ISO and use a harger HDD to store and play them, which having the second XBox will help you relock and clone your hard drive to a larger drive.
My suggestion is to just buy one STOCK on the cheap. Look on Craigslist. I go to Savers (thrft shop) here, and have found them for as low as $5. On average, you should pay no more than $15 for a fully working one. Then buy a softmod kit on eBay that comes with the necesary cables, game, and memory needed. That will be about $25. Do the softmod like I instruct in one of my past vdieos- either Rocky5's or SID. Then upload Chimp to your XBox via FTP, relock your old HDD.
Whether you want to keep the extra hardware is up to you, but I would keep it as a means to fix your XBox should anything happen to it again, or if it should catastropically fail in the future.
$50 for a softmodded XBox sounds reasonable, but personally, I'd be happy if I could sell one for $30.

Hey, so I just got my hands on the OG Xbox. It was working fine and playing games until it started lagging really bad and so I thought it was overheating or something. I powered it off and to let it cool. Again because I thought it might need it. When I tried to power it back on the thing wouldn’t open the disc drive and I got an error screen saying I needed to send it in for maintenance. It pulled an error 11. I took it apart and cleaned everything. Motherboard and such. Then I took apart the disc drive and cleaned it as well as replaced the drive belt as well as check for continuity and retinned the solder points. Sadly not positive result. Still getting the same error. Do you think my disc drive circuit board died?
I just got back from work and can confirm that my shipping from Arrow was indeed free overnight FedEx shipping. It didn't exactly go perfectly but I'm kind of glad it didn't so I can explain how their customer service was.
I had an ~$37 order full of parts to completely recap a 1.0 revision Xbox, power supply and all (plus a few extra goodies not related to the Xbox). Everything was nicely put in anti-static bags and bigger items like a few 8 pin DIN connectors I bought came in their own little boxes with anti-static cushioning inside, really nice touch. The shipping boxes they used were huge by the way (at least for the amount of parts I ordered), and actually split up my order into two boxes. A lot of brown packing paper was also used. Everything seemed "over protected" and I was pretty impressed until I saw that a glass fuse I ordered was cracked. It was in its own bag but had zero protection, no bubble wrap no cushioning whatsoever.
I contacted their customer support and here is my first downside to Arrow. Their customer support is a little convoluted. Normally with Digikey or Mouser, their live customer support will give you a replacement then and there. You basically just tell them something was missing or arrived broken and you get a new order with the replacements. But with arrow, the rep told me I had to make a new order on my own, email my new order number to a support email, contact live chat again, ask to get transferred to the same first rep if I didn't get them again (I had to ask to get transferred), and then finally the representative could "zero out" the price of the new order with my replacement glass fuse. Keep in mind that throughout the live chat process, their replies were also what I consider slower than average. Overall, it wasn't anything horrible but it was certainly a somewhat time wasting process with a lot of hurdles. I don't understand why the representative just didn't have the power to make a new replacement order then and there. But it worked out in the end and I got my free replacement part. Let's hope this one gets some protection and doesn't show up cracked like the first one.
But overall, my experience was good. The prices are cheaper than their competitors, they have a good selection of parts, 98% of their parts come well packaged, and the free overnight shipping was indeed a thing.
LOL. Yeah, that's something I completely forgot to mention. Live support is horrendous. I had issues with them claiming I had to fill out customs papers for items shipped from Europe. I dealt with both live and phone support, as I wasn't made aware that it was the customer's responsibility for customs. Make sure you order parts that's being shipped out from the US.
I know what you mean about Mouser. I used them exclusively for the past few years, and their customer service is top notch... almost apologetic. The even shipped out an item for me for free when I called trying to add a part to a web order, and they shipped it separately for free, as the order was already shipped. Tech support is even better as I found a cap to be not sized correctly compared to the specs listed on their website. They connected me directly to their stock person in the warehouse and specs were contirmed wrong on their website, and everything was taken care of very quickly, and without hassle.
BUT, that will have to take a backseat to me saving money and getting the parts quickly.
Can't believe they didn't "overprotect" the fragile stuff, and they overprotect the others. From my experience, they even ship out in multiple boxes from one order. And all are oversized. Half the time, the are WAY WAY oversized, and even ship out oversized cardboard reels for a minimal amount of connector pins.
But glad you tried them.

Had I known that sooner, I wouldn't have ordered those 12 10uf Panasonic FR caps from them, they're currently scheduled for shipping from the Netherlands on the 26th. Fingers crossed that they don't bug me with customs papers.
The fact that they didn't put more care into the more fragile stuff really surprised me too. I mean it's a glass fuse, it really doesn't get more fragile than that. If it was a ceramic fuse the bag would have been full of sand... But saving money and overnight shipping are going to hard to beat. I'll put up with a little extra nonsense for that. I'll keep ordering from them, I haven't changed my mind yet. It'll take more than a little bit of hassle to do that.
I appreciate the recommendation on starting a channel. I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about it on a few occasions. Some of the people who's systems I'd recapped even suggested it. But honestly I'm not a very entertaining person, have zero experience in shooting or editing videos, and a lot of my repairs are admittedly repetitive. Yeah I'm a pretty big AESTHETIC fan of pretty much anything throughout the 70s to 90s, with a big focus on 80s appreciation. I've got quite a few Patrick Nagel prints hanging around along with one of Agnes Lum. Man if there's something I wish I could experience was Hawaii in the 70s/early 80s. You guys had it good with beauties like Agnes Lum. I don't have any true nostalgia for those eras, I was born in the early nineties. But those eras have a charm about them that's hard to ignore. That and I grew up pretty poor, which I'm kind of grateful for. A lot of our stuff was old but I got a little bit of the vintage experience because of it.

I mean, our parents gave us stuff when they could... imagine buying an NES in the 80's. They were going for $199 if I remember correctly. $50-70 on games. I treid uninstalling SID 5.11 from the uninstaller before, and it kept saying it could not delete shadow C, if I remember correctly. And I ended up deleting some files manually, and it gave me an error 13. And I pulled the plug, then an error 16.
I was trying to recreate that scenario, and was surprised that the uninstaller for SID 5.11 worked. Even more suprised when it still worked when I installed SID 5.11 over XBox Softmodding Tool and it still didn't have an error, as in the past, when I did that, an error 13 popped up on another console.
Seems like softmods react differrently on the different revision XBoxes.

@@CrazyPCgamercatguy You're going to need a working modded XBox as your recovery machine. You also need a dumped EEPROM from your error 5 XBox. If you don't have the EEPROM, you can build the cable that I show in the video. @@The_SegaHolic I tried to flash the modchip's bios but failed. The problem is I had the HDD unlocked and now I get the error 5 (since the modchip does not work). I have ordered a new modchip to install but at the moment I can't use the Xbox at all because of the error 5.
I have been looking for a way to connect the Xbox HDD to the PC and locking it again with a program. I had pressed on the "backup EEPROM" but I don't know if it did anything. I wonder if this XBoxHDM-2.3-Beta4 USB would work.. If you can suggest any programs able to see the Xbox HDD on the PC would be very helpful.

I've an error 13 after trying to installthe last version of Rocky5 and the last version of MS dashboard. After the install, when I ejected the Extras Disc DVD , error 13 occurs. I can't read any non-original DVDs, so I can't run Extras Disc DVD anymore. I run Halo 2 game in order to update and fix the MS dashboard, but the MS dashboard wasn't fixed and I'm still freeze on Error 13. I don't even the expoit save files on HDD. What can I do? I'm panicking...

Out of sheer curiosity, I checked out that Arrow website you talked about in your video. I thought that surely the "free" overnight shipping would be paid for by charging more money for the parts. I found the exact caps you used in the video, Rubycon YXG 1500uf 6.3v, on Arrow and Digikey. It costs $0.32 per cap on arrow and $0.65 per cap on Digikey. The only thing I think arrow doesn't have is bulk discount pricing but to get close to Arrow's pricing, you'd have to buy at least 100 of those caps on Digikey. And to top it all off, Arrow offers that free 1 day shipping. HOW DO THEY DO IT? I wonder how their parts stock compares to the giants, Digikey and Mouser. Surely there must be some downside to Arrow?
I'd be very interested in hearing how you found out about Arrow and how your experience was ordering with them. How were the components packaged as well? Digikey and Mouser do a good job putting everything in anti-static bags, and sometimes bubble wrapping delicate parts like 20mm glass fuses. Arrow does have bulk discount, which differs on different items. AND THERE IS NO DOWNSIDE TO THEM. I've passed by one of their warehouses in Arizona, and it was huge. They even have a European presence as some of their components and parts get sent from there. Crazy thing is, when they say there is NO MINIMUM FOR FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING, IT'S REA.L. I've ordered parts that came out to just over $1, and it was sent, overnight... here in 2 days. Incredible.

If you watched my past videos, I've ordered from Mouser and Digikey in the past. I used to prefer Mouser, but shipping cost and availability is key to where I order. Digikey has a $3 saver shipping option, which Mouser doesn't, so my prefferred use of parts distribuitors are Arrow, Digikey, then Mouser. Obviously, cross shop for prices to see if that offsets the shipping cost.
If you watched my recent Sega arcade stick builds, you know I need those AMP connectors and the pins that go in them. I tried to buy drectly from TE Connectiviity, and they list Arrow as an official distributor.
As far as how they ship. Always top notch. Better or even with Mouser. I can't believe the box size they choose sometimes, for the parts I'm buying. It seems like each different component comes in it's own box. Sensitive parts are sent in antistatic bags, and fragile parts are even sent with boxes with foam. I just can't believe it.
I ordered from Arrow years before, and I thnnk they got out of the consumer business for a bit, until they came back recently. Not sure, but I wasn't able to access their website for parts... unitl I did a search for one of those AMP connectors and they popped up.

You also give me too much credit on the caps, although it's quick you do give a decent zoom in on the caps you ordered in the video. That's how I was able to find the ones you ordered. However, I have something I'd like to bring up about those specific caps you replaced.
Those caps that have an all silver housing are located around the CPU. The specific type of cap used there is important because it needs to be very low impedance and work well with high frequencies. They essentially work like battery wells that the CPU sucks from. Obviously CPU workloads and calculations differ greatly by the fraction of a second. And when the CPU goes from minimal usage to intensive loads in fractions of a second, those caps provide the CPU with bursts of power. That's why those replacement caps should be rated to handle high frequencies and have an ultra low impedance. That would be a much better job for a good quality polymer capacitor, typically the type used in PC motherboards. Unfortunately it appears that their rated life of 2000 hours doesn't match up to the 5000 hour Rubycon YXG you bought. But I think the added high frequency stress might affect those Rubycons. Or maybe not. To be fair those Rubycons are well made, but polymer caps are perfect for high frequency applications. And you might be able to find better polymer caps, the Nichicons just came up after a half quick search.
Definitely give Arrow a go. You won't be disappointed. And like you said, I'm a bit baffled by how they are going so unoticed at the moment. The Free Overnight shipping has been in effect for several months now,
As far as the caps go, there was no differentiating markings on them, besides the cap ratings. Obviously, for a novice like me, seeing all the available capacitors with the same ratings and reading their respective data sheets makes my head spin. I know Nichicon has about what.... about 10-20 different lines of electrolytic caps. Some are geared toward music, and others are "ultra low impedance."
To be honest, I went for the cheapest I could get. But thanks for for clarifying on electrolytic vs Polymer and why it's vital to use the right one for CPUs. I should have paid more attention as I was reading up on the various caps, and made mistakes in my PC-Engine RGB adapter that I made about a year ago. Like what caps to use for noise filters on power lines... and when to use ceramic vs electrolytic vs tantalum. What made me re-read up on it was when I found out that the Clock caps on these OG Xboxes are gas type caps. Should have paid more attention in my electronics classes years back. Scary to think how much we forget over our lifetimes. LOL. Are you an engineer? You seem to know your stuff.
As far as rated life hours go... are we really going to play with our XBoxes for 2000 vs 5000 hours? We have so much avaiable to us today, as far as what takes up our time.

Segaholic, I removed rocky5's softmod to go back to stock on a spare original xbox I had and now it has an error 16. I used the option to revert back to the stock dash. Do I need to use another xbox that's already softmoded to repair this problem? I don't have the proper expertise on soldering for a modchip on the board.

My fiance's Xbox worked just fine it wasn't shut off wrong or anything. we put it up in the closet pulled it back out a few months later and an errors popping up but with no code. Does that mean that the hard drive is fried?

Yeah, I thought I showed how to relock you HDD in this video. Error 5 is unlocked HDD. Sorry, it's been so long since I've messed around with the XBox. But basically you'll need to dump your keys with a homemade eeprom reader.

I have an error 16 due to messing up the uninstall with sid (shown on this video) There are no dash files left, the hardrive was wiped. Any way of fixing it without another xbox?

Your XBox cannon unlock the HDD. You're gonna have to dump your EEPROM and configure another HDD if you don't have the original HDD that pairs with the main board.

It means you are trying to run an unsigned XBE on a nonsoftmodded system. Try to use a UDDAE exploit.

There is a way with a computer, but you need an old one with IDE. This is really the simplest way.

I saw that you used a usb to serial adapter... can you just plug the usb cable in or do you need a serial to usb adapter?
I just made the usb plug, so I can disconnect the wire and store it away easier.

Motherboard and HDD have to be matched with the same keys. You’ll have to extract they keys from the MB’s bios using Pony Prog. The directions are in here. Then you’ll need to format the HDD and lock it using the keys from the MB.

@@deanzeineddine1221 No, you need the keys from the dead paired motherboard that the hdd was originally paired with to unlock it. You may still be able to extract the keys from the bios chip, but it’ll be an advanced task.

@@deanzeineddine1221 Well, sometimes,the motherboard just aint repairable. But the keys are more than likely still on the bios chip.
There are ways to extract the keys, but I don't know if the xbox board needs power.

There is also a wall to "null" the keys, but not sure what the requirements are or how to do it exactly as I haven't touched an XBox in years unfortunately. But you will need a modded XBox.

CrAzYgIrL as long as you have the softmod save files still on the XBox, and u dont remove power, u should be OK from deletion errors.
@@The_SegaHolic Guess I should watch the video but back then I had no idea what I was doing. I bought it preloaded so the only thing I could think of was to reload the modded save as original games still ran despite the error code. I could have deleted the modded dashboard I can't quite remember.

He showed how to do it in the video, the only difference is that you don't want to clone a working drive, but instead use the softmodding tool extras disc to reinstall the dash and then use chimp to fix error 16
Do the original saves on the error 16 hard drive get deleted by chimp.
Depends how you use chimp, and what you ate trying to accomplish. You can copy files to partitions, reformat partitions, clone... etc.

I heard it will, but I don't have.a PC with IDE. I'm guessing you didn't save your EEPROM. If you have another XBox, a PC with serial ports, and make the LPC dump cable, the method shown in this video is pretty easy to do.

Back up the EEPROM, then just FTP it to a working Xbox's X, Y, or Z directory. Use Chimp to lock the drive.

Your HDD is unlocked, and you'll need to lock it with your eeprom file that you hopefully saved.
BTW, here's a conversation I had answering the same question 2 months ago.
@Retro Dad Hey, what's up? Yeah, you'll get that Error 5 if you don't lock it. Easiest way to relock it is to use another modded/softmodded XBox and use Chimp 261812. You'll need to have the eeprom info from the XBox that has the error5 also, for Chimp 261812 to use to relock it. You'll need to upload the eeprom.bin file into the second XBox.
IF YOU HAVEN'T, WATCH THIS VIDEO IN FULL, I GO QUICKLY SO YOU DON'T GET BORED. IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DO.

@@zionmohl5107 Go to the thrift shops around your area and buy a cheap one. Then softmod it yourself. That way, you aquire tools that can help you fix your XBox when and if it breaks again. And you can get it for cheap.
Again, hopefully you saved your EEPROM, otherwise you'll need a PC with a serial port and build an EEPROM reader to get your EEPROM.

That is actually a Sony portable DVD player. Good thing about these old DVD players, is that some of them have line-in capabilities, and let's you use them as an external monitor.

Well, for the error 16 one, you should just fix it using the methods I showed here... Chimp 261812. Obviously, you need a working XBox.
For the error code 7, looks like you have a bad HDD. Maybe the arm is stuck. I never tried to mess wiith a HDD personally. They are very, very fragile. With the clicking, definitely not a jumper issue... if you end up having to replace the drive, you'll have to dump the EEPROM and build another HDD
