A year ago I picked up a pristine OG Xbox - I changed out the fan and caps, soft modded it and installed a couple multi-terrabyte hard drives and installed the entire North American original library. Gtg.
Tip: you can avoid scraping the heatsinks entirely by spraying Goo-Gone onto the black thermal compound and letting it sit for a few minutes, then a q-tip/cotton pad should get it right off! Also, a normal hair dryer can heat the GPU heatsink enough for it to come off.
I worked at a used game store that did console repairs. One day corporate called and told me to throw away our parts system over stock. I called my mom and loaded up some 30 broken xboxes in her minivan. By the time I was off work she had already tought herself how to mod one. @@ToastieStrudel The front ports are USB ports with a custom connector. There are (or used to be) adapters that allowed you to connect flash drives to the front ports in order to use them as really large memory cards.
You can easily soft-mod (permanently) an original Xbox with just a USB 2 Xbox USB cable. I don't accurately remember how I moded mine, as I had both several memory cards and also USB adapter cables, but it wasn't very hard. Not trivial, but easy enough and it also allowed me to change the HDD to a 750GB one. Doing so enabled me to dump my Xbox DVDs to the HDD and run them really fast and convenient. XBMC support and proper networking is also a nice feature. In my humble opinion that I greatly respect, you should give soft-modding a try following a reasonably recent tutorial.
This is by far more than I will do to my systems. I did the softmod approach with a sata drive replacement years ago. Took it a step further and slimmed the casing down. Then went an additional route of removing the disc drive minus its motherboard. At the time SSD was impractical for the mod based on cost. And I feel the HDMI out would bring my system more play time (haven't used mine in 4 years). Excellent job as usual Tito.
@@MachoNachoProductions Yeah. The slimming is a pain and has to be precise. Mine has a tendency to heat up since I had to remove the shielding. Still functions, but a bad way to shorten the system life span.
rev 1.6 had better quality capacitors than the previous revisions so the clock cap is less prone to leak, but it's always good to check. eventually they'll all become leaky
another, another tip. Brooks makes an adapter that will work with the Original Xbox. Its a usb adapter but you will also need the USB to original xbox port adapter to plug it into. This way you can use a modern Xbox controller/PS4 controller or even a fightstick on the original xbox
This is literally the best soldering skills I have ever seen in a video. It's so tiny and accurate! You are really something else! I have often seen professionals doing a "blob" nasty job. It just hurts to watch, while yours is just sooooo satisfying! I could watch you do that for an hour. :P
@@MachoNachoProductions I waas jumping on to comment about the outstanding soldering as well. Those tiny solders look beyond my skill level. Do you have any recommendations for beginner solderers to improve their skill?
This was fun to watch. You can really see the big temperature difference with the new thermalpaste (and fan). Still wish we got OG Xboxes where I live. 😑
The Original xbox wasn't in your country that sucks I'm not trying to be mean I'm just saying that it sucks that the og xbox didn't come out were you live
As a Day one OG Xbox owner, to see those mods look super easy compared to the 20+ soldering job done to one of the OG xbox in my collection. Time to find a 1.6 and get to modding!!!
Personally I would go for a 1.5 or older because then you could also do the ram upgrade. There's a select few games that require it and over 100 720p patched games that can utilize it.
@@prismatic1239 You do know that 1.0 to 1.6 a naming thing. Not existing is not part of this, some think it does & others say no. If you like to got this way, the naming of 1.0 to 1.6 does not exist. We made that are selves, not Microsoft.
1.6 ram mod can be done by adding the ram ontop of the existing ram. One pin has to be soldered on top specific parts of the board though. Not read anything of ram overheating after mod but it’s defo going to be hotter
One of my biggest moving regrets was leaving behind my modded Xbox with a transparent badge, blue CCFL light inside and an 80mm fan replacing the original (required some cutting of the frame to fit, but fit it did).
I’m downloading about 12 game roms as I watch this. Both ‘lord of the rings’ games plus the high def ‘mortal kombat’ are definite highlights for me. I found a cheap set of high def cables on eBay about a decade ago that display perfectly, unlike most cheap sets if hd cables. The original Xbox is STILL worth owning 20 years later.
To anyone watching this currently: You do not have to FTP your bios to the console. As soon as the modchip boots it hosts an interface you can access by entering your xbox's IP address into your browser. You can flash it right from your computer in seconds!
Dang, this mod looks very advanced. I've never heard of unpacking/patching/repacking firmware before, and I'm not even certain the software I'd need to do it. There seems to be many potential points of failure in completing this project, and I wouldn't know what to do if something didn't work first try! Still, this is amazing and inspiring. I think I'll practice more with hardware mods before I worry about software mods.
Softmodding the Xbox is an option too and its quite simple to do so long as you have one of the exploitable games. I have a softmodded Xbox from like 2015, I used the Mechassault save exploit to do it (you get the same UnleashX dashboard). I use XBMC on it with a really nice HD GUI that makes it look like a Xbox One menu and runs really well.
I know this is two years old, but i just had to comment... What a well-put-together, easy to understand piece of information it is! Production is also top-notch. I've seen some videos like this before, but this one absolutely takes the crown. Subbed!
Love seeing how love is still given to the console of my childhood. Much respect to the SNES, PS1 and PS2, but.. the splash screen of Halo 1 can make me shed a tear
I bought one of the HDMI kits for my 1.6 Xbox project, but Ive been putting it off for a while. I ended up getting some of the old copper VGA heatsinks from the early 2000's that were big for slim Xbox mods at the time and have those installed along with a 500gb SSD and the DvD drive delete PCB. I have an Xblast chip installed into the system, but just this last weekend I was given another 1.6 xbox that has a Xecuter 2.6 modchip installed in it already, so Im strongly concidering moving over to that one and ditching the Xblast chip. Do you know if the DvD delete bios patch and the HDMI bios patch will work together? If so, the only thing left on my list to figure out is slimming down the power supply. I know previous Xbox revisions, it was possible to use a Pico PSU with a little buit of work, but this 1.6 has been hard to find some kind of newer power supply for. I found some prototypes online some guy was working on, but ended up giving up on his project.
Even without the hd mod Xbox is the best of that gen for gaming today. A lot of games support HD 720p and some up to 1080i and widescreen and is the best for emulating up to N64/ Dreamcast. Chronicles of Riddik or Doom 3 really push the limits on the Xbox. With the former being the best looking game of that gen IMO
System Link means that many multiplayer titles are still playable for big LAN Parties. Thats a tremendous advantage over the competitors that are mostly stuck to splitscreen or needing extra addons to have network play of some kind
Imagine having four of these modded badboys and having 15 of your best friends over for a Halo LAN party with all of the great changes and upgrades... a dream come true I'd say.
I've only installed a Sata Drive in mine so far, but the fan mod is gonna be the next one I do, made a HUGE difference in the Dreamcast and Gamecube. I'm happy with quality component cables and an OSSC. Really well done, your soldering skills have been getting better and better, this looked quite involved. Great library and they still look fantastic at higher resolutions.
Totally agree! The fan mod is fantastic and really makes the console near silent. I'm sure component cables are very good and will look great! I too am really enjoying the Xbox library 😀
I posted to the wrong thread where people were saying why they thought keeping the HDD was better. Your all forgetting that the data drive will use less power than any HDD, takes up less space (better airflow), and is also silent (going along with the fan) so an SSD sounds worth it to me. If you are woried then you can use a laptop HDD they are the same size as an SSD and use less power than a bigger HDD though they are still noisy.
If youre going to fan mod it you might want to consider going for a 80mm noctua instead, you dont actually need a adapter, but if you go with a 80mm fan you will have to cut some of the plastic on 2 of the corners, I have noctua nf-a8 fans in all 3 of my xboxes and they all fit better than the original did with no screws in the original mount.
@@bland9876 I was wondering why you'd bother with an SSD, but yeah that makes sense. My first thought was - but SSD would only be getting semi used (speed wise).
The Xbox HD+ mod is an expensive way of getting a HDMI cable to your Xbox, but it is a high end mod. On the low scale which does the same is the Wii to Xbox HDMI mod, which takes the Wii to HDMI adapter and converts it for the Xbox, which can be placed either inside or outside of the Xbox. This mod will only cost you around $10 for the adapter, this is a huge saving when compared to the $100 version.
Very true, but in reality it doesn’t really compare. The Wii adapter mod is component to hdmi, so an analog to digital conversion. The HD+ is Digital through and through. The quality is definitely superior with the HD+, but is that improvement in quality worthy of the extra cash? That is for the individual to decide I guess.
Not heard of the Wii to Xbox hdmi mod, I’ll have to have a google. The high end mod is both expensive and probably beyond my solder skills but obviously the best mod out there at the minute.
@@robertpatterson1037 the Wii to HDMI mod, there is a helpful video on here how to do it. But its taking a cable apart for the outside. doing a similar thing to this video is having the Wii adapter on the inside and soldering to the ab pins instead.
Ive got a pound cable which is fine for the odd occasions I play on my Xbox but the thought of having a hdmi port on the back of the console is appealing.
There is no speed boost when using a SSD over HDD under an IDE controller, even when using a SATA to IDE converter board since it communicates to the system solely as IDE. The max read/write speeds of the IDE controller matches that of a 7200RPM drive, which are easier to find more affordably in higher capacities than SSD (though really, 60GB should be more than plenty for this old beast). I would also like to make mention of the ability to upgrade the RAM storage to double from 64MB to the 128MB similarly to that of the Debug Kits, and the processor from a 733MHz Mobile Celeron to a 1.4GHz “Tualatin” Celeron
While you are absolutely right that there's no reason to boast over transfer speeds that are limited by the IDE bus, SSDs still have the benefit of having 0 seek times and that is noticeable in game. There is a video here on TH-cam and an article that can be Googled exploring the differences.
I was big into the XBOX scene and was so excited when they were throwing around the idea of the system being upgradable and not needing a new system...well that never panned out but this upgrade setup is 🤩

An SSD that's interesting I never even thought of that I still just use the mechanical drives. SSD is probably real good cause the mech drives can get pretty hot in the original xbox case
@@MachoNachoProductions there will be no performance bump because of bottlenecking. It won't last longer than an HDD because of how an SSD operates when saving, storing and rewriting information along with temperature changes it experiences. They slowly kill themselves just from normal use
Nice video, but to truly call it "ultimate" you need at least the 2TB SSD (Samsung 860 EVO, the Pro is needlessly more expensive) and the 128MB of RAM upgrade. Others (not me) might argue for a CPU upgrade to the Tualatin 1.4GHz and maybe add some OLED screen for the system.
@@erik3371 Yes, it offers a 2TB capacity which is at the limit of MBR capabilities. We are talking about "ultimate", so we have to take it to the limit, right? I don't think that there is anyone on this channel who does not relate more capacity with being able to store more data (software, games, videos, music) locally and who does not find it convenient to access said data on the fly. It's not always or only the speed of the device that counts, but also its size; whoever says that size doesn't matter either has no use for it, or simply lies.
I agree with you regarding the 128MB RAM upgrade and the need for a large hard drive, although a mechanical drive would suffice instead of SSD. As for the LCD screen, I installed one on my system, and to be honest it’s a gimmick. I wouldn’t do it again. Actually, for an ultimate Xbox, now you have the option of the recently released cerbios, which allows the use of an 8TB drive!
@@Mephiles343 Yes, 8TB is way more than the majority of Xbox owners would ever use, 4TB would be much more reasonable. That would provide room for every Xbox game in XISO format plus every emulator that runs on the Xbox, with every game for those emulators. It’s like everything “ultimate”, you have it but you’ll probably never use all of it (the same as owning a 200 MPH vehicle). Having said this, I guarantee that there are some people who will find ways to fill 8TB drives, with movies and music in addition to all the games.
One thing people need to realize when getting into the original Xbox is that the capacitors on the power supply (internally) tend to leak. I recommended if you plan to modify it in anyway at least check them out first on the power supply or at least completely replace it.
this only affects versions 1.0 thru 1.5. the capacitor issue does not affect versions 1.6a & 1.6b. also, the capacitor can be taken out completely and doesn't need to be replaced. be sure to clean the area after taking the the cap out. it's just that the internal clock is affected. it can be replaced too as an option.
Massive respect for your production, explanation and soldering skills, Tito. Planet Krypton could have used your cool head to prevent disaster, bro. Excellent work. Enjoyed this.
I've had my HDMI modded XBOX for a year now and I love it! Still using the same XBOX I bought all those years ago. My XBOX is a v1.2/1.3 with 128MB, X3, X3CP, X3IR, XboxHDMI, 1TB WD Black. I have the original version of the chip before it was redesigned and rebranded to XboxHD+.

So, I have been watching videos on what people are doing modding these in 2020+ My last original XBox was in 2006, I had soft modded it as I was not in a stable place and may need to sell it off. Which I did. Now I have a new one. I gotta say, this is all much easier for those getting into this now. I had a 1.2v box that to upgrade the HDD, required hot-swapping it to an IDE port on a computer running at the same time. At the time, SATA was JUST coming out. This is so much easier. I am just waiting on a few parts. Good video and should help anyone, maybe even those with no experience in doing this in the first place.
The version you have is less prone to issues like a leaking clock cap but any time you put time and money in a project like this it can't hurt to give the xbox a preventative recap as well.
In my opinion, the original design they went with for the first Xbox console, the giant Silver aluminum X with the green glow all over the console from the 1999 2000 E3 Expo, is still my favorite variant of the Xbox console of all time. Would love to remake that type of model to house all four Xbox motherboards, hard drives, power supplies, etc.
Absolute brilliant video! Love the new era mods I'm quite tempted myself, although I'll have to source them here in the uk! Well deserved thumbs up from me and a new sub thank you for sharing 👍🏻
from the country where i was born, Tito means uncle. Nacho Libre is also one of my favorite movies. The first XBox was the 1st console that I ever bought for myself. Saved money from my paper route in 7th grade. I still have it up to this day. It can still turn on and play music that's been saved on the drive, but it can't read any of the games/disc that I still have(i really wanna play Fable and Jade Empire again.) Thanks for this vid, gonna try this with mine when I get the time to, as well as get a new dvd-drive 😪.
Cool mods. Another tip that I'd mention is that you should only install a hydro bearing fan for it as it basically makes the fan unhearable and functions at optimal performance. A company I recommend is GUID fans if they are still around. I have a few left which I bought years ago. Also SSD vs mechanic drive on a system like this is pointless. If you got a mechanical drive it's going to perform just as good. Lastly, you should also remove the time/clock capacitor on your Xbox depending on your model which has been known to explode and leak over all the components on the board causing corrosion. Keep that in mind.
The SSD is not useless if you're backing up your games to play off of the disk. In fact, it's pretty much the best way to go about it. The difference in performance is massive.
He stated that it’s a 1.6 board revision. No need to remove the clock capacitor since it’s vital for 1.6 functionality. SSD is more reliable in the long term versus regular HDD due to less moving parts.
unfortunately mine has Already leaked all over the motherboard, but somehow the system survived and works i have no idea how but the only thing that stopped working is the power button and whenever i plug the console in it just turns on by itself, at least the eject button still works
@@caodesignworks2407 The most this SSD's can output is 133MB/s because of ATA/133 limit. Games were writen to use slow (for 2021) IDE drives with whoping 30-40MB/s, so SSD wont do much
@@jacobmadafaka8232 On one hand, obviously. But on the other, there are no spin up and seek times. Not to mention the audio cut. My Xbox is definitely quicker to start up. Especially games backed up on it. Though, I wish I'd had the HDMI mod when first modded my Xbox.
i was 13/14 years old when i had my xbox and i soft-modded it using Action Replay and the Splinter Cell Saved profile method. I never did any hardware modding to it at all. Only thing i did physically to my xbox was put a cool clear red case on it. I used to mod Halo 2 back in the day. On xbox live i could only do the the DLC map mods since i didn't do any hard-modding. otherwise i used XBC or Xlink Kai for non-dlc maps. man, the nostalgia it brings me. the best times i ever had playing games online. nothing will ever compare to those moments i had then.
I modded mine with a 4tb drive and I think it was an Aladdin chip I installed then installed every single Xbox game except for some crappy sports titles onto the drive. Even all the Japanese releases even though I can't read most of them lol. Works great just turn it on and find the game you want and away you go. There's over 700 games if my memory serves me correctly. I didn't know about the HDMI mod, time to open the old girl up one last time. Thanks for sharing mate.
FWIW, you can see a 20% real-world increase in hard drive access just by swapping the 40-pin cable for an 80-pin one. Seriously. (Back in the day, I soft-modded mine and installed XBMC as well as B.A.E.D for great emulation of even many N64 games.)
dont know if this matters but my 1.4 hdd was set to Cable Select so i set the same on the same ide-sata and it worked but i had a few issues, nothing major but putting the jumper back to Master it ran better
The only thing that I would do different is that I would use a HDD instead of a SSD as the SATA to IDE adapter will basically make the speed advantage that a SSD have over a HDD irrelevant, making the SSD a waste of money. Although I guess using a SSD will be quiet, but stil not worth the extra cost in my opinion.
@@amcadam26 I have never done any side by side load thest with a SSD, but I have done side by side load test using a Xbox with sata HDD and one with a IDE HDD a few years ago when I was really into OG Xbox modding and the IDE HDD was always faster. honestly, the ssd being quieter is a disadvantage imo, i love listening to the sound of old hard drives working their magic, though of course an ssd is a lot more reliable than those old hdds
13:47 I suspect the reason the GPU heatsink is hard to remove is because it's thermal epoxyed on. The clue is in the black colour of the TIM. Trying to remove it without a heat gun is gonna end badly. 14:16 Well if you used some tweesers instead of some side snips you wouldn't have that problem 18:25 So a fun story: When I was 16 I bought an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton. I installed it into my pc and then forgot to correctly secure down my heatsink. The second I turned the pc on I could smell burning silicon. Never EVER run a high performance silicon semiconductor without properly installed cooling. You WILL break it. 22:07 No. It doesn't.
Such an awesome innovation for the OG Xbox. I wanted to install the MakeMHz but after seeing you needed the modchip and had to install a custom bios, I just decided to go with component cables directly into the Tink5x. I did upgrade the fan as well as a Noctua fan for the GPU (I have a 1.1 revision) Was there any particular reason you went with the 1.6 revision, or was that just what you ended up with?
@@MasterOfMisc If you have good first party component cables, it is comparable. Plus, if you have a compatible monitor, you can triple the 480p signal to 1440p! It's still analog converted to digital, but much easier than a mod. The Tinker is $300, so I wouldn't buy one just for the Xbox. If you have other systems you want to scale, it's the best option.
I learnt the hard way with the SSD. It died after a year and thankfully, I still had my 80GB drive handy and got the drive cloned to my 200GB IDE HDD. I believe it's because the SSD was a cheap Inland 480GB SSD (Microcenter brand) and because they didn't have something like this back in 2019. Going to do that again in my 1.6 OG Xbox. glad I found this video! I still have a original- unmodified (except to clock capacitor removal) Xbox, and stone age gamers is only 1.5 hours away from me! I still love this console and definitely needs the HDMI upgrade!
It's funny. As a kid, I sort of leaned towards the original Xbox but I still played my PS2. In this day and age, I really love all the mods you can do to the original Xbox. I softmodded mine with the Xbmc4gamers dashboard. Definitely a great dashboard for the Xbox.
I'm usually not very good, skeptical about interfering with the original hardware, but here, in this mod, everything is concise, nothing superfluous. Good job- soldered, assembled everything neatly, beautifully. Those who made this mod are worthy of attention. Happy 20th anniversary, Xbox!
I recently finally got around to installing a HD+ I’d had sitting around for quite a while. It’s definitely not an easy install if you don’t have a lot of soldering experience but is doable if you have a light touch and take your time. And I can’t stress enough how helpful flux is. I had only ever installed a modchip pinheader before but I managed to get this installed. I had some really annoying bridging that took me a while to clear. I had my doubts about how I would like it because in MVG’s video on the kit, the colors and shadows didn’t look as good as the component video he compared it to. This particularly showed when he showed Outrun 2006 gameplay. But I can happily say that was his recording settings or something because mine doesn’t look that way. The picture looks great. I’m looking forward to the Stellar modchip now that I preordered to pair with the HD+.
The thing with SSDs in old consoles is that if you dont power them regularly they start to lose data after 1 year or so. I have one in a PS3 that was turned off for 3 years. When I went to use it, it was very corrupted. Had to reinstall the "OS" and re download all the PSN stuff. I now turn on everything with an SSD at least once every 3 months.
The thing that gets me is the modding community is really big for this console is, even when these were new. Which alot of it has bad stigma, but it is still a gaming community. Even though some do use it for the wrong things in alot of cases, it still has its die hard enthusiast's that do try to upgrade the hardware to keep the consoles relevant to today's standards. I grew up with both ps2 and Xbox (divorced parents perks lol), but I played alot of xbox live stuff on xbox, makes me happy to see people doing this even though I do know I'd really mess up trying to even attempt this. Lol

The fact that the XBOX is so simple to mod makes it even more fun I suppose.
Maybe I'll buy one eventually, pre modded.
I had a blast modding this one. The software aspects were the most tricky for me but in the end I have to say I am really enjoying the console!
the original Xbox is basically a PC
@@AndreiNeacsu yup, the Rocky5 Tutorial by Mr Mario on TH-cam is really good.
Thanks buddy! Sounds like you did quite a bit of modding to your XBOX too 👍. Case mod sounds like it would be pretty neat also!
@@MachoNachoProductions Yeah. The slimming is a pain and has to be precise. Mine has a tendency to heat up since I had to remove the shielding. Still functions, but a bad way to shorten the system life span.
One more tip: If you haven't done so yet, make sure to also remove the clock capacitor and clean up any spilled capacitor leakage.
rev 1.6 had better quality capacitors than the previous revisions so the clock cap is less prone to leak, but it's always good to check. eventually they'll all become leaky
DBA is exactly right on this.
Nope not on a 1.6
another, another tip. Brooks makes an adapter that will work with the Original Xbox. Its a usb adapter but you will also need the USB to original xbox port adapter to plug it into. This way you can use a modern Xbox controller/PS4 controller or even a fightstick on the original xbox

@@lain328 1.5 does not exist
@@prismatic1239 You do know that 1.0 to 1.6 a naming thing. Not existing is not part of this, some think it does & others say no.
If you like to got this way, the naming of 1.0 to 1.6 does not exist. We made that are selves, not Microsoft.
1.6 ram mod can be done by adding the ram ontop of the existing ram. One pin has to be soldered on top specific parts of the board though. Not read anything of ram overheating after mod but it’s defo going to be hotter
Great project. Modding the OG Xbox is a lot of fun and there is still a pretty active community doing it even today
Despite the fact I COULD NEVER be able to do this to my Xbox, I watched the whole video and simply loved it
Just wow 💚
Subbed!

Also this Redherring32 guy sounds like a real piece of work, but I'm sure he was happy to help.
Haha he sure is 😂! Thanks again buddy! Video wouldn’t have been possible without your help 👍!
Do you do this as a service?
@@Nitrous_Busa I do.

What fan mod. I never heard of a fan mod for the OG Xbox.
I've been watching alot of your mod videos and I gotta say you do great job. Earned my subscription over last couple weeks.

Totally agree Julio! It was my first time playing it and I was impressed. I grew up on gran Turismo, but forza gives it a run for the money 😁
You need to double the fan speed from the default 20% to 40%. The fan itself is not powerful enough at default speed.
How do you do that?
Your production value is INSANE. You honestly deserve more views. Well done.

The sound of that HDD the xbox has is really unique. I'll never get rid of it.
An SSD that's interesting I never even thought of that I still just use the mechanical drives. SSD is probably real good cause the mech drives can get pretty hot in the original xbox case
yeah, but you wouldn't notice the speed difference and the ssd wouldn't last as long in the system
Agree, I don’t think there will be much of a performance bump but I’m hoping for better temps and longevity
SSD doesn't have the staying power if an HDD. They have a built in expiration
@@MachoNachoProductions there will be no performance bump because of bottlenecking. It won't last longer than an HDD because of how an SSD operates when saving, storing and rewriting information along with temperature changes it experiences. They slowly kill themselves just from normal use
@@Wolfstanus That last sentence was beautiful and funny
Great quality videos! Genuinely thought you would have more subs, the production value is remarkable.
Does beefier SSDs really so anything when you're converting the SATA interface to IDE anyways?
@@Colin_Ames an 8 terabyte drive for an original xbox? That seems supremely overkill lol
Came from the video recommendation, enjoyed every minute. Would have subscribed on your channel name alone. Great instructional!
I added another RAM chip onto the motherboard of my Xbox. It did make a few games play better, but not by much and not most games. Bragging rights!
@@destronger5313 thanks for the information I didn't know that but I had a 2004 late model and it was affected back in 2018.

I gotta say, this is all much easier for those getting into this now. I had a 1.2v box that to upgrade the HDD, required hot-swapping it to an IDE port on a computer running at the same time. At the time, SATA was JUST coming out. This is so much easier. I am just waiting on a few parts.

Thanks for this vid, gonna try this with mine when I get the time to, as well as get a new dvd-drive 😪.

SSD also has better seek speed over an HDD, so it may still be worth it. Would need a side by side comparison on loading times to confirm.
@@amcadam26 I have never done any side by side load thest with a SSD, but I have done side by side load test using a Xbox with sata HDD and one with a IDE HDD a few years ago when I was really into OG Xbox modding and the IDE HDD was always faster.

Modern cpus at least have thermal protection on them, so at least doing that to a pc cpu from the past 10 years or so should not cause damage.
Such an awesome innovation for the OG Xbox. I wanted to install the MakeMHz but after seeing you needed the modchip and had to install a custom bios, I just decided to go with component cables directly into the Tink5x. I did upgrade the fan as well as a Noctua fan for the GPU (I have a 1.1 revision) Was there any particular reason you went with the 1.6 revision, or was that just what you ended up with?

i was just thinking about this concept the other day after watching the xbox docuseries on the xbox channel. What a cool video of yours! really great project brought to life. The classic xbox aesthetic is quite awesome in its own regard. Would be cool to see someone use the shell of the box and do some sort of pc build that can fit, but with 2021 pc power!
That's been done my friend. Linus did it as well as some others.
If Americans can say "soldier" right, why can't they say "solder" right?
This guy makes the soldering look so easy, he is very skilled at it. The average guy trying to do this mod will mangle it lol. You need the skill to do this.
I like how MVG used a compact flash which works with IDE you basically get a SSD sppeds with a modern CF. I would love to see someone mount the CF so its accessible from outside the xbox so you can quickly add apps & games if you dont feel like FTPing
Can I just say what a well crafted tutorial with no fluff
You gonna regret not replacing those caps dawg.
Insane how good forza looked that many years ago❤
glad I found this video! I still have a original- unmodified (except to clock capacitor removal) Xbox, and stone age gamers is only 1.5 hours away from me! I still love this console and definitely needs the HDMI upgrade!
Thank you so much! If it wasn't for 7:49- " ", I might have been screwed!
Bruh. Your soldering skills 🤌
I don't know why I'm watching this. I could never do this without making a lot of horrible mistakes. But I find it very cathartic.
This is my favorite restoration/resurrection video for all time. 10/10
My first video I've watched from you, really loved this. Longtime Xbox fan and gamer here, I'll definitely be checking out some of your other videos.
Wow, awesome! I've always said the OG Xbox is underrated and was way ahead of its time! Do mine next, please! LOL
havent seen such good soldering skills on youtube yet.
You are a real PRO
Great Job! I lOVE this video you most definitely made me a fan.....
Great video, Tito.
Really wild that the Xbox is closer to the release of the Famicom in 1983 than it is to the present day.
Thank you! That is wild. I’m starting to feel old 😅
The thing with SSDs in old consoles is that if you dont power them regularly they start to lose data after 1 year or so. I have one in a PS3 that was turned off for 3 years. When I went to use it, it was very corrupted. Had to reinstall the "OS" and re download all the PSN stuff. I now turn on everything with an SSD at least once every 3 months.
Yeah I went through the same process recently. I would of loved to of seen OGX360 addition as well. Maybe in the future!
Lol
Was I the only one who cringed and worried for our dude's safety because of the way he held onto the Xbox power supply at 16:42 ? :O Great video nevertheless!
it's so funny seeing such a small ssd in a caddy meant for those huge ide drives
Speaking of those drives here's another con:
You don't get to hear the sweet grinding sound those old hard drives do, it's like asmr i'd gladly listen to one seek all day!
Your soldering skills are insane. Good work, nice video like always
Thank you ☺️🙏
@@MachoNachoProductions That's awesome you are like a professional, with the soldering it came out Perfect! You should consider selling these unit's to buyers and charge a fair $250.00 or $280.00 and the shipping separately people would buy it.
Great soldering skills , I ran Into this video and reminded me that I still have my original console from when I was 14
Ultimate Xbox has the CPU upgrade and 128meg upgrade. HD+ will work with those upgrades. Only thing HD+ doesn't support is the titan patches so don't expect to run anything bigger than a 2TB harddrive if you do this mod.
