  • I absolutely loved The Batman. The other day, I went through and gave a non-spoiler review of the movie and had a great time talking about it. Now, I want to actually dive fully into the movie and really talk about everything. Jill and I have been really looking forward to talking about this movie. #gothamknights #batman #thebatman

This is also the most intimidating Batman we've gotten so far. It's so cool to see that some criminals actually fear him. And I loved how he made mistakes in the movie, and how he got hit alot. It just shows that he's inexperienced and has to learn alot. It made him more human.

Wow I thought the complete opposite. I thought that I’ve seen better portrayals of almost every character in this movie. I felt Christian Bale did a better job at playing Batman because he actually played Batman AND Bruce Wayne while Robert Pattinson played Batman all the time, even when he was Bruce Wayne. He is an amalgamation of different Batman comics versions, the movie Se7en, and maybe a hint of Arkham. His Riddles were actually brilliant, he was insane, and he was a step ahead of everyone. Aside from the Joker, Riddler is my favorite Batman villain and I’m happy that people are starting to not see him as a joke anymore.

Since it's a spoiler review, I'm gonna say I loved Earth One elements they implemented into the script, especially the thing with Bruce's mother and her side of the family, their last name is Arkham instead of Kane. They followed certain parts from the comic that were really great and they did it so well. Also this version of Alfred is a badass. Former British Intelligence officer, taught Bruce his combination of martial arts, and I loved those parts. Amazing movie. One of a kind experience.

The way he reacted to it also gave off Bane vibes, especially when you look at Bane bulking up in shows and comics. Even though Bane has done the process almost a million times, he still feels the rush and it shows. Looking at how Batman reacted in the film, you could argue that he’s only ever done that enough times to count on one hand and his reaction to the drug was a lot worse because of that.

I also think this was the best live-action Batman movie because as much as I liked some others, I think it combined everything very well in a way that didn't make any weird choices and portrayed a modern, serious Batman that basically gets everything right in its own way
I think the "Bruce Wayne is the mask thing" theme some Batman stories go for is more referring to his playboy antics and charm that he puts on (which is something that is a bit more apparent in the Nolan trilogy and The Batman kept his Bruce Wayne persona really close to his actual personality) but also perhaps more importantly the theme that he keeps himself from developing close relationships and sharing his emotions because of his dedication to being "Batman" (stoicism and duty) and that maybe he sees those things as a distraction or hindrance when really some of them shouldn't be both for his own well-being and for the well-being of those people close to him
Batman: Bad Blood got it right, Batman and Bruce Wayne can both be masks but as he becomes more true to himself neither are

I really liked this movie. I thought it was great and probably my second or third favorite Batman, but I do have one big complaint-ish. I thought that the city flooding was too much/big for two main reasons: it didn’t really fit with the rest of the movie which was more grounded-ish and it felt tacked on. Also, I noticed MAYBE a bit of messaging, but it didn’t really affect my opinion on the movie, plus, with Catwoman it kinda fits her character.

I loved the end of the movie, I've seen people say the third act is the worst but in my opinion, it's the best, how Batman started out as vengeance and basically instilling fear into everyone. And in the end, he's a symbol of hope now, and how he lead people out of the flooded area in the end, and how that kid or women wanted to keep holding him after he set her down on the stretcher, like, I loved that.

I loved the movie! The story was great, the characters were great, the cinematography was great, I totally loved the music.
Riddler was a great first villain. We got detective Batman, we got to see how corrupted Gotham is, we got a villain with a very logical (pun intended) origin story. And the Riddler's scheme was awesome. I literally started laughing in the theater when the vastness of the plan was revealed. It was so good.
But the music was the best. That leit motif. I read somewhere that the footsteps you can hear, when Batman approaches in the shadows, mirror the leit motif. Three steps and the fourth one is a bit stronger. And then the way the leit motif expanded at the end of the Penguin car chase scene. It was terrifying! But then it was also present in the softer scenes. It was just so effective.

Yes sorry I kind of forgot to mention that Jill mentioned it about 10 minutes after we finished recording because originally our review was almost 40 minutes and it's still pretty long, and she was like hey we never even talked about him, but I'm kind of on the fence. He's really one of the best fictional villains in my opinion, but also there's so many interpretations of him and he's been done over and over and over in live action. Whenever there's a live action Batman, they bring out the Joker. I understand the two are very interlinked, but it is something where I completely understand being tired of seeing that character on the screen and wanting to wait a while. Personally I think it would be cool to see him, but I wouldn't want to see him in a main role until at minimum the third movie. If he's kind of just in the background in the second movie a little bit that's fine with me, but I really don't want the second movie to focus on him.

On Catwoman, I feel like this movie gave a very intriguing psychological reason for her love of cats. In this movie, she does not love cats just in the same way everyone else does. I think that in this movie, she brings in strays because she sees herself in them. I think that her relationship with Annika is also a reflection of this. She definitely came off as an almost maternal character here. She does not blindly care for all people. But she will do everything for the people she does care about.

I was cautiously optimistic leading into this movie. DC movies are very hit/miss. Can get something great like Wonder Woman and then get something not so great in Josstice League. Was never a fan of Batfleck and here we go with another version and reboot....I was actually very surprised with how good the movie was and it's become one of my favorite live action Batman movies. Not going to say it was a perfect Batman film but at the same time, I really can't think of anything that was all out glaring like "BATMAN WOULD NEVER DO THAT". Here's hoping the sequel(s) work out as great as the first one did, which is a rarity in Hollywood, and all the spinoffs they have planned are actually decent.

I 100% agree. If plot was the same but with a bunch more jokes by Batman and others then the film would be ruined this Batman is darker and more serious even in his time Bruce Wayne. The humor they had was more subtle and darker like the thumb drive moment personally I did not find it funny but on my second viewing there was someone laughing.

I really wanted to like this movie so much but I just couldn’t. I thought it just copied seven the entire time but seven was a better movie. Seven had more interesting murders being it was rated r and the payoff is better. The twist of “what’s in the box? “ is way better than the riddler wanting to team up like it’s an Xbox live party. Also people keep saying they like this movie because it highlights Batman’s detective skills but he never solves anything for the most part. The Riddler turns himself in and basically tells Batman about the snipers at the end. This just made Batman fell very weak the entire movie as if he never any control over the situation. Riddlers plan was extremely calculated and he had cause the entire movie. I mean he took down all the corruption in Gotham in like a week while Batman is beating up graffiti artist in year 2. So when Riddler decide he decided he wanted to flood the city and started a mass shooting with his followers it made no sense and felt forced. The entire movie he only killed corrupted high officials in a calculated manner to accomplish his goal. I guess they just needed an action for the end though. Lastly I’d like to say the car chase while cool makes no sense . Why would Batman keep chasing penguin once they got highway with all that traffic . It caused a huge car accident and Batman was part of reason that two truck drivers died in the movie. I don’t see why he couldn’t track penguin down later especially since earlier in the movie it already showed him break into the iceberg lounge and interrogate him earlier. So he still could got to him later if really needed to.

I hope this isn't taken as racist, though I see how it can very easily look like that. I think Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and making Catwoman a darker skinned character was a really excllent choice. I don't know everything about Batman history, having only really played the games and read a few comics, but from what i've seen Catwoman is supposed to be a character who comes from a place that's fundamentally less advantaged in comparison to not only Bruce and the Waynes/Arkhams in general, but also other working class parts of Gotham, which to me is just more believable when coming from a darker woman and not a white or even porcelain skinned woman as she's been depicted as in most comics. This isn't to say that ALL people of darker skintone live in disadvantaged or more poverty stricken parts of cities, it's obvious that's not the case, but there is an assumption we can make about the socio-economic climate in Gotham that rich white people run the city. I mean, she says it herself in the movie, but some examples can obviously be the Waynes and the Arkhams, and the crime syndicate of Falcone, Oswald, Two-Face and the Joker. Rich white people are what's behind the scenes of Gotham, that's true in both "The Batman" and in a lot of Batman history in general from what i've seen. This also isn't to say that Batman as a character or in his principles is racist, he's just not and neither are a lot of the other characters i've mentioned, it's more stating the fact that both his wealth and skin colour give him that advantage, which I also think adds to the "Bat and the Cat" relationship as it gives Bruce an even deeper look into the suffering of people in Gotham through Catwoman telling him of her experiences. When the idea of systemic racism is explored in modern media today it, more often than not, comes off as a cheap grab for approval from the viewers (which unfortunately works most of the time) and isn't done in a way that makes sense in the context of the story, it'smore just thrown in there. However in "The Batman" it really makes sense when looking at the world of Gotham as a whole, even across comics. I feel the city of Gotham is depicted quite literally perfectly in this movie and is the most comic/game accurate representation of ANY of the live action films we've seen so far and is definitely the most believable with mafia-like crime bosses running the city from the background.
While a lot of this is just me drawing my own meaning from the new casting of catwoman, I hope i'm onto something. And if i am onto something, I REALLY hope it gets explored further in the next movie, and other adaptations and depictions.
