Warhammer 40000 is a world of expansive lore and a crazy amount of backstory. Today, I create a digestible version of it to understand Warhammer 40k for new people. You will learn about the Necron lore, Eldar lore, Emperor lore, and more in this timeline of Warhammer events!
I usually like to put 40k lore on my second monitor while I work, but god damn if this isn't some primary monitor content.
ey i didnt know you liked warhammer, love your videos too :D
My guy, make a sculpt of literally anything 40k. Really love your content and happy you like Bricky, my beloved
There are so many goopy spoopy nids you could sculpt for Halloween season
@@noobhunter217 i would love some spooky scary necron bois, but ngl in 40k are a lot of things that goes good in halloween
This man understands!
Can we agree that Bricky is one the biggest contributor when it comes to bringing new people into the hobby
Indeed. Getting hit in the head with a brick is what makes most people think playing warhammer isn't such a bad idea.
Actually, it's the serie "astartes" that got me into warhammer. But yeah I love bricky's warhammer video
yeah, him n the reactions to his videos have managed to drag me back kicking and screaming
I was attracted to the hobby by 2 things. Bricky's lore videos, and orks (specifically evil sunz)
Yes very much it was him in 2020 that got me in to Warhammer and I'm happy about it
Side note about the Eldar Fall, they were able to go to such violent extremes with each other because they were immortal. When they died, their souls just reincarnated into a new body, good as new. Therefore, they could murder each other all day long and just keep coming back for more. This changed when Slaanesh was born, after which all Eldar souls go straight to her.
This is kind of important, why wasn't this mentioned?
@@radumotrescu3832 It's one of the parts of the lore that manages to exist but be entirely irrelevant to the modern lore. Remember that the soul stones are a technological replacement for the natural system that the birth of Slaanesh broke. It doesn't get mentioned a lot because 1) It isn't the modern state of the Eldar, 2)Most people forget about it because it has a replacement that works the same way only slightly different so they occupy the same memory unless you're really thinking about it
@@radumotrescu3832because it is an important detail for the fall of the Eldar, not for the entire history of 40K.
That’s like asking why doesn’t school teach us about Matthew Perry in the United States? Well he is a big part of Japan’s history… but in American history, he’d be lucky to find himself a footnote.

"Gods cannot be killed but they can be broken" was such a raw line Bricky holy shit
But they can bé killed, they killed one at least, it just backfired badly when you kill an entity on which the universe rests upon
@Bnvnu who was it?
@@rgama1173 Llandu'gor the flayer
@@Bnvnu Yes. And because of this the Necrons have the flayed ones. Not the best trade. ^^
@@Bnvnuthe exception proves the rule i guess
The fact that people are able to consolidate the timeline to only 30ish minutes is wild
_Only_ 30ish minutes
Well, he DID skip everything between the horus heresy and the modern imperium. That's quite a lot of info. Stuff like the scouring, the great forging, the interregnum, the age of apostasy, the discovery and rediscovery of the t'au, the discovery of the tyrannids ang kryptman's exterminatus extravaganza, and of course the black crusades and the reawakening of the necrons.
Hopefully a timeline vide of the age of imperium comes next
@@1estel1ch.42sure, but as a first introduction to w40k? This is amazing, it sets the world well enough for you to have an idea of the major players, and you can tell that more stuff happened, it just wasnt covered, because if you cover some, why not the other?
Arbitor Ian has another aprox. 30 minutes break about it!
History of the entire world i guess is less than 20 minutes long
The ending went so hard. That smooth af transition between telling a story of the timeline into a hype speech to pickup your lasgun ending with the incredible age old saying of "There is only War" followed by that sick transition beat... incredible
it's a good day when Bricky uploads a new Warhammer video
Fo Sho
He's been uploading a lot of 40k on adeptice ridiculous
Who is Bricky? Do you mean John Warhammer?
@@Cabr1095If you're a fan of the XCOM series I would recommend checking out the Mechanicus game. If you're a fan of RTS's I would recommend the first 2 Dawn of War games. Lastly if you're a fan of Bomer Shooters I recommend Boltgun. Other than that, most Warhammer games are kind of eh to offensively bad.
That’s true
That little nod to Alpharius when you were talking about the first found Primarch was great
I am Alpharius. This is a lie.
I saw that, it was an excellent little nod to the deeper lore
The bolt pistol to the head talking about the “true” number of primarchs is also top tier
Could you Tell me where I could find out about this?

Majorkill is better.
It's great that Bricky was able to give Shy a cameo in his new solo video 21:16

While Darktide isn't the best of games, it damn well embraced the setting perfectly and gave us some amazing tracks.
Sk8ter (Bricky's editor) did a phenomenal job on this one! These two make a fantastic team when it comes to the pacing and overall vibe of these videos.
@@simoncroft73the song at the end was from Darktide?
@@gabrielchin4161I think it's called Immortal Imperium
@@antonytansom7877 thank you
One thing to remember with Eldar debauchery: Eldar were effectively immortal and didnt go into the warp but were reincarnated. Their lives were just cycles and it was necessary for them to go to the extreme of each life, experience everything, do whatever. And with no consequence. If you killed someone, they would just come back again. There were no consequences
Yup. Now remember what happens to real world children raised in environments with “no consequences” and we can start to see why and how things went so wrong.
And then, THERE WERE CONSEQUENCES. O HAI SLAANESH.
@@MrSpartan993Galaxy full of IPad Elves. 🤦♂️
That DOES fall apart slighly when you remember that the eldar would kidnap human colonists during the tech age pre-slaanesh. Sure the ELDAR were immortal, but that didn't stop them from turning Colonist Joe into meat slurry for shits and giggles.

Those Darktide tracks hit so hard. Well done Brick, made me want to go back to it.
No better time than right now. The new patch is a huge step up.
It's seriously fucking awesome right now, I couldn't stop playing it, even in my dreams.
Would you consider a part 2 just covering the 41st millennium? I think it'd be neat to see just when all the famous events we know about actually happen.
Try the Lex, search for M41 - Events
There you go. All the events collated from the codexes and books, on mostly one page
I second that!
and also mention the leagues of Votann
Please let this happen man
Would be wonderful. Although there’s a LOT to talk about and even this is a super quick run-through a bunch of stuff. I really recommend listening to his podcast, Adeptus Ridiculous, if you want more.
I like that he used the phrase, "writing on the wall" to describe what the wise Eldar foresaw for their race.
Didn't think it was possible but Bricky made YET another banger of a video...
Would love to see a full story on how the Orc race came to be
Orcs are fun. But the Krork were actually the MAIN reason the necrons “Noped” out after the war in heaven. A species that gets stronger and more intelligent the more war you give it??? Yeah, screw all that. The silent king decided to let the Eldari keep assassinating all the most powerful Krork for millions of years, and denying them open confrontation. Which led to a de-evolution of the Krork race into orcs. Denied anyone but themselves to fight, and their best and brightest constantly being assassinated… It was a problem after 60 million years of Eldari “containment” programs. Fortunately for the orcs, the Nids are giving them a “propa fight” and certain orc strains appear to be evolving forward once more. Not to the point they used to be. An ancient Krork would be MORE than a match for any space marine. But enough to be different from the usual orc hordes.
He did cover Orcs a few times on Adeptus Ridiculous.
kroks are literally 2 time the size of a primarch, Ghazkull is already and half Krok by this standard and he is still growing@@ghironsingh

Man. That last speech? The “in the far reaches of the grim dark future, there is only war” speech?
Chills. I got chills when the music cut it. That was done *masterfully*
God, that ending was sick... May the Emperor smile upon you, Bricky, for this offering you have given. It's difficult to tell 40k's overarching story in less than thirty minutes, but not only did you do it, you also managed to convey the full emotional context of the setting as well. The individual heroism, those little sparks of hope keeping the dark away, courage not for the sake of evil but for the sake of those at your side - all so well communicated. Amazing job. This is one of my favorite videos on 40k, and I'll be sure to try to show this to anyone who is interested but still new to the hobby.
Phenomenal upload. 10/10. Even as a long time Warhammer enthusiast, this was such a joy to watch. Great work, Bricky.

for real.
The excellence of WH40k Rogue Trader kinda revitalized my interest in WH40k lore videos.
Wouldnt be surprised if you see an uptick in viewers.
SLIGHT CORRECTION: I had the Birth of Slannesh backwards. The hedonism of the Eldar created the age of strife, and the Slaanesh birthed helped remove it. Kind of like a gigantic warp wind that blew it all away. Or mowing your lawn with a nuclear weapon.
If you want to get a more in depth (but still new person friendly) continuation of the lore, check out www.youtube.com/@Adeptusridiculous the Warhammer podcast I do with my two great cohosts
Just wanted to say thank you. You didn't have to break down the timeline but it's very helpful for a 3rd person kinda on looker into 40k. There's so many events and major moments it's kinda hard to tell EXACTLY when they happen without direct purchase of books, audible. Etc. Thanks Brick
Every time I hear the Tekken soundtrack it makes me laugh, cheeky bastard XD
I read '' chaos '' instead of cohosts
I think there's some horus heresy going on.
yo u may wanna censor at 17:01, might've slipped thru in the edit
Well. Gonna go play some Darktide now. 😆
Slight correction: It was the birth of Slaneesh that ENDED the Age of Strife. The age had been caused by the psychic buildup of Eldar emotions leading up to the birth of Slaneesh which extinquished the vast majority of Eldar souls in the warp ending the age of strife
Slaanesh's birth scream essentially blew away the warp storms that had isolated pockets of humanity and that had built up over the course of their increasing hedonism.
Was looking for this. The emperor was waiting for the storms to break and be blown away so they could do the crusade.
@@tlcronus Seems less that he waited for it and more that he got blindsided by it to me. I mean, he launched the Unification Wars and the Crusade with tech he'd basically scrounged up from behind the couch cushions in an incredible hurry. If he'd really been planning for this for thousands of years, he'd have been a lot better prepared. He was kind of like the student who's just realized that this paper is due tomorrow and it's 50% of the grade and he hasn't even started yet.
Another slight correction: Knorne, Tzeentch, and Nurgle were not around in the War in Heaven. They came MUCH later, in fact more near our modern times. I believe Nurgle is the oldest (though apparently some sources place Khorne earlier still), truly forming from nascent energies during the time of the Black Plague on Earth. The rest came about later.
@@spamhere1123 It is implied that Khorne's initial "spark" emerged with the first murder.
This is the most beautiful add transition ever. I actually watched it out of sheerly being impressed.
Bricky has come such a huge way in terms of writing and editing since his first 40k faction video which was already really good, it's insane
He really went far with it
Your original 40K explained video got me into the setting in the first place. Intro videos like this are so important for growing the community. Keep ‘‘em coming!
I picked up Darktide because it was on sale. I watched the opening cinematic and was like WTF IS THIS. THIS GOES HARD. Especially when we have so many other games that play it so safe. I had to learn more about this world and its lore. It brought me here and i can not wait to get even more into Warhammer after this video. Great stuff.
So did you pick up space marine 2
Loved this! I'm and old guy and I have long looked down upon WH40K (because reasons) but a few years ago I dived into it and now I can't get enough of it. I wish it would evolve a bit faster because I don't wanna die before interesting things happen 😀
I never engaged with Warhammer (40k), but something about the universe of 40k is so damn compelling. I love these kinds of videos and hope you do more of them.
You should check out the pinned comment sir, he is involved in a whole podcast all about 40K. Plenty to slack the lore thirst and they've been at it for...jeez is it almost three years? Lol lots to listen to and discover
Well thank you good sir! I can't believe I missed that. Sure is a lot of content to go through holy shit. I will be locking myself in for a while. Thanks again!
Same. I never got into the table-top game, so I didn't think there'd be much left for me in Warhammer without that
I don't think I've ever been so wrong before lol
Darktide literally makes 40k videos better by their musical scores. That and Mechanicus have given such bangers.
I always wondered about the differences between the 30k and 40k eras
Give or take about 10k years
30k was when Imperium was a fascistic empire hellbent on manifesting destiny across the galaxy with legions of gene enhanced warriors.(Also the Imperium was just better off, no threats 20 primarcs +Emperors and millions of astartes.) 40k Imperium a post fascistic theocratic society which literally collapsed beyond repair after the Heresy, clinging to life in a constant fight or flight reflex that is willing to sacrifice everyone to sustain its existence.
@@kesmeseker9593honestly? Well put
@@kesmeseker9593 a note on 30k, I get the feeling that many of the upper echelon of Imperium command was more on the "true-believer" vs "cynical opportunist just out for personal gain" side of this Imperiums Ideology, and also for that reason this empire was hellbent on manifesting destiny across the galaxy, Not and excuse or disagreement with you calling it fascist (its appropriate), I just think calling both 30k and 40k facists, misses alot of nuance of how different the two where,
Both settings are grimdark, but the 30k guys haven’t realized it yet.
The use of the Darktide music is such a good bit of evidence of how good and fitting that music is for warhammer.

"That weapon in your hand has killed 99% of the Alien population in this galaxy! Unfortunately for you, you're fighting the remaining 1%!"

Bricky feeding the reaction community for another 6 months.
28:46 This part goes unimaginably hard
Another masterclass in storytelling from Bricky! 30 minutes seemed far too short a time to encompass the VAST history behind the 41st milennium but man can this guy cram a lot of detail into every segment!
The first novel i read for WH40k, was Fifteen Hours. I'd say that is also a really good novel for starting out, as it really hammers home the plight of the average soldier in the Imperium. How little one truly is in the grand scheme.
And this is why I enjoy bricky. He enjoys warhammer for what it is, without embracing the horrible mindsets as acceptable.
From what I can see in this fandom there are people that take the game too serious. Some take offense and want to change it, others take it to heart in a bad way. Bricky got the right mentality.
@@GsusCrustI have to say that it was Bricky who got me to embrace 40k lore (outside of Orks and Kriegsman, because those are both meme gold) but he made me actually understand and embrace the depths that I had previous felt were just derivative)
Coz he aint no heretic!
I like how the tau got a single screenshot and wasnt mentioned by name at all lmao
I tried getting into the lore but felt too complicated, your an amazing storyteller for someone like me who need things to be described more simple but still intriguing and don’t missing out on the details. Thank you Bricky
I don't know if you know this but bricky is on a podcast calls adeptus ridiculous where he goes over warhammer lore in a very simplistic and casual manner. I personally enjoy it quite a lot.

A little bit more info about how the C'tan came to be. The Necronty basically made them. Ther were barely sentient, eating only from the energy of stars, as he said in the video, but the Necrontyr found them, and put them into machine bodies with very advanced AI, to give them sentience, and it all went down from there
When you realize that every faction and everyone within the factions is a shade of gray, it becomes much simpler. At that point it's really about breaking it down into chunks and going from there.
I became aware of this universe like 3 years ago with TheRussianBadger's videos but watching Bricky's last year really got me interested. Now I played Space Marine and Dark Crusade and I'm playing Boltgun, Mechanicus and Tacticus. You really got me, Bricky.

Verrrry slight correction: the Birth of Slaanesh blew away the isolating warp storms that the decline of the Eldar had brought. That is, the Fall of the Eldar brought the end of the Age of Strife.
The warp storms that caused the Age of Strife can be more accurately viewed as the incubation of Slaanesh.

Bricky I want to thank you for recommending those four. I really agree they’re the best intro points for someone new to the setting and a good mix of silly (Infinite and the Divine/Ciaphas Cain) and the serious (Horus Rising/First and Only). Too often I see people recommend Xenos or all the eisenhorn novels and I think that’s such a missed opportunity and only emphasizes the grimdark nature of the setting when there’s so much humor in it too.

What a heater. That last line was on fire, i even felt my throat choke up for a second i was so into it. Fantastic job King
Scientists in the year 40,000: **"Why does Guile's theme go with everything??"**
New to 40k, new to Bricky and the intro into the ad was brilliant. Subscribing now 😂
Oh shit another 40k banger, LET’S GOOO!
17:44 "Slaanesh's birth sent storms from the Warp across the galaxy, making travel between the star systems impossible."
I had previously heard that Slaanesh's birth is what cleared the warp storms responsible for ending the Golden Age of Technology, and that The Great Crusade was only possible after Slaanesh's birth cleared the galaxy of storms.
From what i understand that is true but Slaanesh's gestation from the Eldar's debauchery was effectively heralded by the excess warp storms and his/hers actual birth and the resulting death of 90% of the Eldar cleared the storms up
Totally expected there to be a pin drop near the end, maybe like a little duck quack sound effect, and then "Oh yeah, and there's a few Gundam dorks over here. They're alright."
Perfect timing, I was just introducing some friends to 40K!
