And then comes that one guy that just plays the faction he likes and knows everything about them and their matchups and absolutely destroys all the meta faction abusers. It happens in every game. @@Luikaon Sure, that does happen. There are also some games that just have not been balanced properly. Also, I think there are occasions that some things /should/ be a bit OP - that's what arms races are about after all. Maybe don't let players get 'godmode' gear, though. ;)
I, basically, getting into the 40K cause of the Kriegs (design and lore lure me into this money sinkhole not "haha shovel meme") My first play was as Krieg using ww1 tactics and boys does it work and it work GREAT! 40K is the most 'free' tabletop game when come to playstyle and cost 40k if your will isn't strong enough.
I remember my first game of 40k for 1 reason. I was playing space marines, against a Ork player who had Gaz'ghul on the field and shot him in the back with a bolter pistol and killed him instantly with no wounds.
Bricky is the kind of dude that all games need in their fandom. Especially the attitude of "I don't care who you are I just want to see new people enjoying it with the rest of us." Not enough people like that in any fandom.
Fast forward to today, when one of his catch phrases on Adeptus Ridiculous is: "Man, F*CK elves!" I kid, I kid. I know it's (mostly) just a joke. And to be fair, if I ever would have actually assembled, painted and played with my Eldar, I might have gotten sick of this saying at some point. Of course an army whose main stick it is to jump in, hit you, only to run out of your range again is infuriating. So I get it. And it’s all in good fun. I’m more infatuated with the ridiculously grimdark lore of the franchise anyhow.
On the note of using knights as allies that Bricky mentioned, are there some sort of downside to using allies in the tabletop? Because I feel like a lot of shortcomings of specific armies could be fixed if you simply mixed and matched units from different factions into the same army.
@@carljohan9265 the two main downsides are that 1.)in 9th edition having multiple detachments/armies has a big cost from your starting command points and 2.) buffs/support auras don’t go across army lines, so you need to arrange for buffs in each separate faction
So funny story, I started playing when I was about 17. I bought an army starter for Tau, since I am Korean and the Tau had this eastern design that reminded me of some of the older manhwa (manga) that I used to read, I really liked their design. First time I ever walked into a Games Workshop store, one of the employees said I should go outside and let myself get hit by a truck so I wouldn't have to give anyone else the displeasure of playing against the Tau. I was seventeen.
well to be fair, you should've been old enough to know that the tau are like the Nazis of 40k in everyone's eyes. and for the opposite reason people hate the nazis.
"What is this 'me-lee' you speak of? - literally EVERY F*CKING TAU EVER Me: *plays for the sole purpose of endlessly carpet bombing my opponents with Tau bombers*
I don't agree with it tho, to an extent sure but if you hate playing melee and your favorite looking army both looks and lore wise is khorne, you're gonna have a bad time playing the tabletop. I'd say pick a few factions that would fit your playstyle and than check which ones you think look the best or which lore you prefer.
Tip for the new players, don't be afraid to make up your own lore for your army. If you don't like the existing lore...make up your own. It really doesn't matter as long as you're having fun with it.
About a year late but I wrote up a full backstory for my Imperial and Chaos knight houses and why they hate each other. It gets really easy to get invested into a model surviving a battle when you wrote there life story.
I am combining my grey knights and adeptus custodians because I cant afford full armies of both...but I am excited to try them together. yes I lose bonuses but I like this gold silver army of the these two factions that are some of the most loyal to the emp
I found out that is the most fun part of building the army. Choosing the lore very accurately in order to buy and paint only the models you love and in the best way you can and like
Bricky already said he wants to do what he wants to do, albeit League, Warhammer or some other games. I'm actually glad someone isn't stuck with one game unlike alot of TF2 youtubers having trouble shifting to other games.

I know the Tau don't look like they fit in a grim-dark universe, but since they were separated from that universe for so long I like the lore that they're the young shiny guys venturing off into a completely dilapidated galaxy lol
That's how I see them too. They haven't been around long enough to get "grimdarked". They are the young, optimistic, bright eyed newbies to this horrible galaxy that haven't gotten their initiation yet. They're like how humanity started. Shiny mechs, railguns, and slick futuristic looking designs. We got yeeted 10,000 years into the past and had to rebuild everything we lost in the Age of Strife. The Eldar had the birth of Slaanesh. The Necrons had the C'tan. The Tau haven't had that event yet.
@@stratigangames508 Exactly. The Tau fit the 40k universe well, in that many factions *used to* be like them. They'll wind up like the humans or Eldar eventually.
I haven't ever touched a Warhammer miniature in my life and this is still so entertaining. Keep doing what you want Bricky, you still do amazing stuff no matter what the content is
You spend just enough time talking about the table top. Touching on their stats and talking about their lore. What helps the most is your genuine excitement for the lore.
With Orks, you can basically glue them together however the hell you want and it doesn’t matter. of course you can make this guy hold a big shoota in one arm, while having the other arm be twice as large and be swinging a giant two handed axe. All because of the power of imagination.
Bricky was where I started my deep dive. I don’t know if you’ll see this but just in case you do, thank you. You made an incredibly complex and convoluted setting easier to understand and you gave me a proverbial launch point to get started with my new obsession. To me you’re right up there with Arch, Leutin, Majorkill, and Baldemort. Again, thanks!
"Now is a good time to be a necron player". Gonna jump on this point: If you're thinking of starting a Necron army, make sure that you check ebay for discounted models once people get their hands on the 9th Edition boxset. Why? Well, the box has the rulebook, new Space Marines, and Necrons, and all the Marine players will buy it for the rulebook and to play with the new toys like the spoiled brats we are. Then, we're going to try to sell them second hand to recoup some of the cost. And since there are so many of us, supply will outpace demand and the price of the Necrons will dip. You'll be able to buy "second hand" new models at a decent price. Finally some good news for Necrons. Y'all deserve it after being treated like the metal-headed stepchild for so long.
Well this wont work in sweden, cause over here the secondhand market is nuts. People sell the new units as singles and make profit from it. So that demand is allways high :(
Dude as a new necron player who just assembled my first start collecting army and was looking at getting the indomitus box, thanks for the tip lol. I will definitely do so instead of ordering a box myself
"I would recommend trying to paint something like the Dunecrawler before moving onto Cawl." As someone who's first venture into painting minis is Cawl, I can confirm that this is solid advice.
I really appreciate you starting the video laying out “The Rule of Cool”. I came into 40k 3 years ago and thankfully had a veteran player lay down the Golden Rule for me. Thus, AdMech will always be my first and primary army. Listen to Bricky, everyone. He’s speaking gospel. If you dig an army, jump in. DO NOT chase comp metas for your first.
I know I’m replying late, but this really is true. My first army was Chaos Space Marines, and I’ve been having a blast. I’ve gotten my butt kicked way more than I’ve ever won, but it’s still fun just because I love the models and aesthetic so much.
@@harshmallow6882 there are professional painters out there, but the price of the army at least doubles. If you have the income, go for it. I was a GM for D&D and painting was a big pain in my ass, couldn’t afford the pros paintjob though! With how much 40k costs just to collect the army, and how many that need to be painted, it’s too much time and income investment. I love the lore though!
"Now is a good time to be a necron player" says Bricky as the strongest necron character in the lore is coming back to life..............perhaps it is...........
Lets hope he isn't just a massive point sink that gets shot off the board before he can actually do anything like Magnus. Also that the primaris marime that ends up killing him in 1v1 combat is actually named
Two things he missed about the Gold Bois (Custodies). You can make a functionally invincible captain. Also Trajann can kill a knight in one phase without perfect hits. Gold Bois are great
My first army was Ultra Marines in 98'. So I think third edition is when I came into it. I never got to play though. I am just getting back into it after 20 years. I've always loved The Custodes lore. By far my favorite. The space wolves would be my second choice. Grey nights my third.
I can attest to the fact that custodes ARE good for newbies as I just started and won my first 3 out of 4 battles, but trajin valourus almost died to an elder farseer so he pulled back and had a vertus praetor gun down an old man
If anyone is just starting to get into 40k, a good way in is via Kill Team, which is at 40k skirmish level rather than a gigantic 2000 point army, it has a 20 model limit for teams so the barrier for entry is much lower. It's a great way to try out different factions without having to spend a fortune.
@@yakatsusensei325 I'll never understand people asking these questions on TH-cam when you have a freaking search bar and Google. Just Google "Warhammer 40k Kill Team beginners guide", how tf is so hard to come up with this idea on your own?

I've been wanting to play 40K ever since I got into the lore a few years ago, but actually started getting to know the game for the past year or so. I wanted either AdMech or Necrons based on lore and looks, but AdMech was a bit weird and complicated to paint and Necrons were a bit not too viable. When the silent king teaser and 9th was announced I INSTANTLY knew I was gonna pick Necrons first. Waiting for a new Trazyn model is gonna be hell.
@@commandercostas Hahaha, glad to hear you're picking the right army! I'd say wait until the codex drops before buying anything... However... The first minis I put together and painted was Skitarii Rangers. Took me ages and they turned out brilliant. The guys at the games shop told me I was insane for starting with something so difficult and fiddley. But cause of the love of their style and lore that I have, it made the hours of slowly chipping away am amazing and fun experience.

I was actually told that when i first went into a games workshop the employee said don't buy what is good in the game buy what you think is cool if you buy something you don't like you will never end up painting it
As someone who's first army was chaos daemons of khorne, I completely agree with not starting with them. You only have one phase that matters, and list building is easy because you don't have many units to choose from. Now that I'm expanding into other armies I'm realizing how much harder it is to try and build a list because of all the options
"I can see why someone would like orks" that's good to know, if i recall when you mentioned them in your xenos video you said you've never heard/seen an angry ork player. we're the goofballs that make everyone laugh or stare in awe with our antics
Also, best army too collect. Many great kits, easy to kitbash, many third party sellers of bits. Many many funny sides like freebooterz (space pirate orks) speed freaks (dumb orks on vehicle that want to go fasta). You want uniforms, you can, you want dumb hats, you can. Everything is possible with orks.
Me picking my first army: Ooh Thousand Sons look cool, I like the Egyptian aesthetic :D Me having, never painted a single model before, realizing I now have to actually paint the Thousand Sons: D:
I felt that when I got some rubrics, it was pain at first before I customized them as my own custom warband, claimed as a successor chapter and was like “screw it I’ll do what I want”
I started with the Space Marines since I had a Know No Fear starter set and yeah, you’re right…great place to start, but I had a hard time finding people to play with me lol. I ended up just starting a Space Wolves army since I am a huge fan of William King and the stories he wrote. I really hope I don’t regret this lol. I really want to try the Sisters of Battle too
I would play if it was even close to what it should cost. Yeah I’m not buying the lies of costs, my uncle and father built and designed the process of plastic model making and it has only gotten cheaper. GW are money grubbing scumbags
Imagine you are a new player watching this with little to no knowledge of all the factions (aka the target demographic of this style of video) There is absolutely no way that particular viewer even knows there is an additional Chaos faction that wasn't covered. Besides a picture of Magnus the Red and a Lord of Change ($140 and $150 cost models for a single unit) there is ZERO images of Thousands Sons. To be fair, Bricky does mention Thousands Sons favorably, albeit offhandedly while talking about the superior Deathguard. Picking an army is more than just, okay this one is low tier so don't even think about picking them, as this video even mentions itself. Aesthetics is huge and Sons look so badass, I was tempted to pick them just by looks alone. Also what is Thousand Sons known for? Well that viewer doesn't know they are some of the most heavy hitters of sorcery, since it was never covered.
@@ZombieMonkey7 just collect whoever looks cool, 40k has heaps of rng and sometimes you never know if your army will be good one game and shite the other + thosand sons are pretty alright this edition.
Also, another cool thing about Orks is that the color you paint them has a tangible difference in how they play. They have the ability to basically (in large groups) believe things will work hard enough to make it work. For example: Red things go faster. Yellow things explode bigger. Blue things get luckier. White things hit harder. Camo things are sneakier.

I finally played tabletop warhammer for the first time today. I just finished the game like 15 mins ago as of making this comment. My friends got me hooked on Warhammer with games like Darktide and finally convinced me to play tabletop. And it was way more fun than I expected, especially for my first ever tabletop experience. Which is typical when you don't buy directly from GW, but the shipping is the fastest I've ever had. They've sent me preorder items the day they came out officially. And of course shipping is typically free from these sellers. Also, say something is wrong with your mini, like you damaged it. GW customer service will still help you out and send the bits you need/whole damn sprue. I once managed to screw up my Saint Celestine I bought from Amazon. The best 40K army to start with is the one you think is the coolest, because you'll probably never stop thinking that. 15 years ago, when I was 16 years old I became a Blood Angel and as much as I love my Orkz and look at Tyranids with a quiet, guilted envy, I am still a Blood Angel at heart. Always will be.

My friend recently got me to take the plunge into this universe by getting me a mini painting starter set, it's such a vast universe but I must say, the Chaos Space Marines look the coolest and from the little I've played so far, they match my aggressive playstyle as well. I know I'm late but these videos have helped me a lot so far, keep up the great work, it's the passionate people like you that keep this community growing.
Meanwhile the Spaehss Mehreens get 10 new not only models, but also units every few months because THEY need it. The eldar make me sad. A good bit of their special characters still have their 3rd edition models!
@@jackychang9148 Boy, it was anything BUT an overestimation, in my response i mention a decent amount of their named characters have models from 3rd edition. Which was 2 decades ago. Also their rules are very slowly but surely becoming obsolete, id say only play Eldar if you REALLY like their lore.
Hearing that custodes are cheaper than most armies to build and that they are all Chads made me commit to buying my first squad of 40k minis ever. I got the custodes wardens with the shield captain as an HQ in the box. And I can have a custodes banner man option as well in the box as well I think. Package arrives late this week or early next week lol
rolan4 dezwinz ya but that’s because an army of custodes is only like 2 boxes of minis (I’ll give my own custodes army as an example). Thats how elite they are. Compare that to the guard who needs like 5 to 9 boxes or to space marines who need 3 to 6. An example would be my 500 point army. Custodian warden box that contains 4 custodes wardens plus a shield captain that’s included in the box plus the achillus dreadnought I have coming from eBay (untouched, unpainted and in amazing condition for ONLY 30 bucks). That’s pretty much a 500 point army (a little less) and can go head to head against an army that has 4 to 9 boxes worth of minis lol. And it cost me just a bit higher than $100, while their army is at least $300 Tell me how that’s not cheap again? Could have been cheaper too if I got my custodian wardens from eBay as well. Btw each box contains a squad usually unless it’s a named character (for the custodes, the only named characters are trajann and valerian)
Warhammer 40k has very long and complex lore that forkes into various branches and hard to comprahence. For myself, you have make it relatively easy to understand and i would love to hear detailed stories from you in the future perhaps. Again, thank you.
@@allucazum8034 Well the more regular regiments are around 40 bucks for 10 regular guys, while the most played Cadian and Catachan are around 20 for 10 guys. Death Korps are 60 bucks. Their tanks are twice the price of regular imperial guard tanks (normal around 40 theirs around 80) Their unique 5 Rider unit costs around 100 Rule of thumb is that you run 60 normal per 1k points, so that's 360 bucks alone for the infantry. When you add the tanks etc you come out at around 600 bucks for 1k points Death Korps. 1k points Cadians can be had for around 250 bucks. Same price holds true for many other armys.

Tip for the new players, don't be afraid to make up your own lore for your army. If you don't like the existing lore...make up your own. It really doesn't matter as long as you're having fun with it.

So long ? They've been really strong and super cool looking for 2 editions back to back
Well this wont work in sweden, cause over here the secondhand market is nuts. People sell the new units as singles and make profit from it. So that demand is allways high :(

@@techpriestalex8730 White=Imperial Guard? Blue=Tau. Black=Necrons. Red=Orkz. Green=Knights.

well i mean. what else would they do. they have fuckin necro in their name.
A bit on the nose. Isn't it?
"The eldar have a few models on the older side..."
Eldar Players: A FEW?!
Meanwhile the Spaehss Mehreens get 10 new not only models, but also units every few months because THEY need it. The eldar make me sad. A good bit of their special characters still have their 3rd edition models!
I'm sorry. I do not understand since I'm a noob. Please explain. I can only imagine that what he said was an overestimation.
@@jackychang9148 Craftworld eldar have models that are over 21 years old and unchanged, they're absolutely not for beginners.

I wanna make an army thanks to that statement and that they are the cheapest army so I am gonna love staving off armies that outnumber us as brothers
Jason Furner cheapest? Each figure is like $60
rolan4 dezwinz ya but that’s because an army of custodes is only like 2 boxes of minis (I’ll give my own custodes army as an example). And it cost me just a bit higher than $100, while their army is at least $300
Tell me how that’s not cheap again? Could have been cheaper too if I got my custodian wardens from eBay as well.
Btw each box contains a squad usually unless it’s a named character (for the custodes, the only named characters are trajann and valerian)

YES. I LOVE THESE THINGS. Its like the only good content out there rn
Wh40k has plenty of good content maybe try baldermort

@@Spekd oh shoot, thanks i appreciate it.
Warhammer 40k has very long and complex lore that forkes into various branches and hard to comprahence. For myself, you have make it relatively easy to understand and i would love to hear detailed stories from you in the future perhaps. Again, thank you.
14:00 "They're pretty expensive." Death Korps players. "Yes, KINDA expensive"
how expensive do Death Korps figures usually get? not sarcasm, just curious
@@allucazum8034 10 Guardsmen cost 16 Euros and 10 Guardsmen of Krieg cost 58 Euros from Forgeworld......... and i'm still considering it.........

Well the more regular regiments are around 40 bucks for 10 regular guys, while the most played Cadian and Catachan are around 20 for 10 guys.
Death Korps are 60 bucks.
Their tanks are twice the price of regular imperial guard tanks (normal around 40 theirs around 80)
Their unique 5 Rider unit costs around 100
Rule of thumb is that you run 60 normal per 1k points, so that's 360 bucks alone for the infantry. When you add the tanks etc you come out at around 600 bucks for 1k points Death Korps.
1k points Cadians can be had for around 250 bucks.
Same price holds true for many other armys. General Space Marine or Death Guard are even cheaper if you use the starter boxes.
200 Bucks for 1k Death Guard AND 1k Space Marines
Not either BOTH

If it wasn't for pricing I would like to collect Salimanders, Necrons and Tau. The Salamander seem to be the closest thing to a Space Marine chapter that follows what we would call the priorities of an army (such as protecting others rather than just looking after themselves) while the Necrons and the Tau just seem to be great for irritating other players without being too complicated to play.
Your content is great cause you're so light on script. It's quite clear your script says "mention dakka dakka" and you just nerd out on talking about your hobby so enthusiastically. It's refreshing!
