  • Tesla officially started MODEL Y deliveries in MARCH of 2020, and although it has only been about a year and a half since its release, several significant updates and changes have been made to the Model Y even over this short period of time. In this video, I discuss those changes.

    The rate of change and improvements is amazing. No other manufacturer can keep up.
    Tesla just keeps advancing the electric vehicle technology.
    Better motors, better batteries, better sound system, better range, better performance, better entertainment system, better noise abatement, better build quality. They are years ahead of all other auto makers.

    Pretty good content. One correction though, the new projector headlights are only on the performance MY and not the Long Range version. I'm not sure why this is the case since there was an internal memo from Tesla that came out to switch all MY and M3 to the new headlights by Q1 2021. However, this change never made it to the MY Long Range for some reason.

I think: Electric tinted windows (particularly for the roof), ventilated seats, electric cooler frunk cooler, Better ground clarets (hopefully dynamic suspension), Better wheels add tires for the performance model, steering yolk, Interphase for Apple CarPlay, quieter AC/heater fan, more sun friendly colors (light green, light blue, light purple light silver), heads up display, Inductive charging system, Auto docking system for trailers, ability to tow behind an RV,… What else?

    I would definitely wait another year of implemented 4680 in use to see how they work out. It's a complete redesign and in spite of all the supposed benefits, no one really knows how will they do in real world. I am especially concerned about thermal management where I live in AZ. Dashboards in the cars left in the Sun in the Summer can reach 190 degrees F. BTW, my current Tesla model Y did really well for the past two Summers, in terms of any overheating and keeping me cool.

    Just wondering if you can do a video on the autopilot crashes being investigated. Seems to be related to Tesla having autopilot for side roads etc rather than just freeways. Have run into stationary service vehicles a few times. Too complex to navigate safely at this stage?

  • @PopsGG

    I am not sure I would consider laminated glass side windows more safe. How exactly are people going to be able to exit out of a window if the care flips or is on fire with jammed doors? Sure with small glass shards you might get a few minor cuts, but you wont be trapped inside.

    I don’t think anyone knows how important the double layer side glass is. I remember working in a pediatric ER and we would get kids, too old to be in booster seats, that have been in car wrecks. They will have leaned just enough to have the shattered glass get between them and the seat and we would have to pluck the glass out of their back as they then got slammed back into their seats. I welcome this safety feature and wish it was mandated to be in all cars.

    • @greghudson9717
      @greghudson9717 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The laminated glass in only for the front doors at the moment, so wouldn't make any difference to rear passengers for now...

    • @rickmorenojr
      @rickmorenojr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically, the breakaway glass was an improved (also cheaper) design over tempered glass that was in use previously. Previously tempered glass would break into large shards of glass causing additional injuries during a crash and post crash. Currently, laminated safety glass is only required for the windshield. If the laws change, or manufacturers change to meet demand, laminated safety glass should be used on all windows. I recall that safety belts were deemed unnecessary by the automobile manufactures until the laws were changed.

    Will model Y 2.0 be available for performance model first?

  • @helicopterjohns
    @helicopterjohns 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Casting Questions: I realize that the new Model Y's produced here in Austin will have both the front and rear castings. Will the center structural battery part be a cast piece or will it be stamped etc. ?
    Also, I believe that they have already produced both the front and rear castings. Each machine is setup to cast either the front or rear castings and to my knowledge two casting machines are operational one for the front casting and another one for the rear casting. I know that the third casting machine has been delivered but not setup. How are they going to produce Model Y's in the near future if the third casting machine is not operational? Is the structural battery pack being produced elsewhere and shipped to Austin? Thanks for any input or information you can supply.

    • @brandoYT

      new battery pack would require new batteries - only change when worth while - downward trend in pricing

  • @brandoYT
    @brandoYT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    More Model variants only IF demand levels off. Ever increasing numbers mean continual downward pricing for buyers.
    Some day Model 3 may become just a lower suspension version of Model Y OR air suspension so customers can lower when ever they want. And Model 3 fades away.

    Apparently, there are some bad vibes from the European market that Chinese versions, with the cheaper batteries, are being shipped there to fill the gap before they'll roll out of Berlin.
    I know I'd be pi$$ed off if Tesla tried to pull that $hit on me, but I'm in Australia where any Tesla is a pipedream for most Aussies.
    Sheesh, we don't have the Model Y & are constrained to the 2020 Model 3 at this point in time& it starts at AU $63,175 before on-road costs & delivery.
    BTW every car that I've owned except the 1960 Morris minor 1000, had amber turning signals. 😉
    My personal wishlist for a South Australian Tesla would be:
    1 .. AWD
    2.. No heated steering wheel.
    3 .. No auto-opening charging ports, boot lids or bonnets/frunks.
    4 .. No FSD, but drive assist would be appreciated.
    5 .. Lumbar support for the passenger seat, please.
    6 .. Use the cheaper battery, I don't need massive range or neckbrace performance.
    7 .. $100 refund for each crap panel gap.
    8 .. Height adjustable suspension to assist the elderly in getting into & out of the car.
    9 .. Limit performance to sensible everyday usage, which could bring lower insurance premiums.
    10 .. No double glazing required.
    11 .. No sunroof.
    12 .. Normal/manual interior/exterior door handles.
    13 .. Access to spare parts.
    14 .. No super low-profile tyres & fugly wheel trims, I'll supply Michelin Pilots on some nice alloys.
    15 ..No on-road costs, taxes, fees etc.
    16 .. A PowerWall 2 would be nice.

    IMHO, IONIQ 5 vs TESLA MODEL Y... :
    Tesla great job, max speed, range especially leveraging its shape and weight. Still prefer, being in Europe, comfort. 99% of my trips are within 200kms one way. With the Hyundai IONIQ 5, I do look forward to ventilated seats, Android Auto, the roomy and comfortable interior, HUD, real blindspot monitoring, 360 camera. Also like reclining seats with foot rest and reclining console for arms rest, all electronic aids especially against collisions, automated parking (top trim), blind spot cams on dashboard when turning, V2L, sun shades integrated in back doors, electric sunroof shade, wide space available inside with good visibility through the back window etc.
    And the obviously efficient 400V to 800V internal battery inverter for fast charging.
    Other bugs with Tesla : Model 3 too low on the ground (Model Y is a perfected Model 3); door handles too complicated for kids and scratchy with persons with long finger nails; blue jeans bleed on those white seats.; simplistic navigation system(whereas under ANDROID AUTO, ABRP beta notably has settings for car weight, or TomTom Go 's use of all offline maps etc. ); quality of paint jobs ; mediocre internal lighting; loud alerts not compatible with family driving.
    Also 5 year car warranty illimited kms (Max 80 000 for Tesla... Reliability issues?), and 8 year battery warranty (same as Tesla).
    Comment by Park Shawn translating from Korean to English this video :
    th-cam.com/video/rWBAJu_S4lk/w-d-xo.html
    Ionic 5 LR and Model Y LR both have similar spec including weight, battery sizes. Details can be found on google. Here are some highlights from the conclusion they brought up at the end of the video. 1. Both car's AVG speed were about 100KM/h (Highway drive) 2. Both car's A/C and other convenience functions(like Highway drive assistance for Ionic 5, Auto Pilot for Model Y and etc.) were always on during the test. 3. 4 drivers drove about 100km per person and checked the remaining battery at designated location. 4. Both car have shown slightly poor battery performance than usual because of the weather condition (rain) 5. By just looking at the specification, Model Y can drive 141km more than Ionic 5. However the actual drive test have shown that the difference were only about 60~70km. This experiment have shown that IONIC 5's driving range is little longer than what Hyundai advertised. 6. They have concluded that both Ionic 5 and Model Y can drive from Seoul to Busan. The distance between those two cities are about 350km. Hope this helps.
