    I find it disturbing that AEDP therapy is not more accessible, when clearly there are sooo many (myself included) who could really benefit from this kind of interpersonal therapy. Unfortunately finding a therapist like you, Tori, is either too rare or not in the realm of affordability, so most folks are sort of forced to accept “good enough” therapists, who are only willing to experience momentary catharsis “online only” with a client within a 50 min window, as opposed to the true growth of meta processing with the client. So thank you for promoting and teaching about this method, and for blessing the world with your knowledge and caring Tori!!

    Wonderful integration of AEDP and memory reconsolidation. But also just a lovely and insightful reminder of what we’re doing in therapy in general. Keep up the amazingly helpful videos!

    Wow! This is a whole new positive avenue to help me transform the sad perspective of my chronic trauma to a positive redemption.
    I sense this AEDP as a more comprehensive way of "reframing negative experiences". A more sustainable way of therapeutic recovery.

    Hey tori tori, this is a term ive made up. I call it "positive trauma" it where your face your fears and insecurities day after day for hours, for months like speaking to strangers.
    I did this and i almost literally felt my mind shattered and tears fell out of my eyes on their own. The positive trauma destroyed my old self identity and all i had were the pieces and had to build something new. Id say its the quickest form of change its extremely uncomfortable not many would do it. People kept responding and treating me in ways i never felt i deserved and my mind had to keep adapting.

    Hi Dr. Olds, thank you so much for creating and sharing this series of AEDP videos. It sounds amazing to be able to have transformational affect and enter core state. However there is one question that still bothers me and I would appreciate your insight: what if the client is stuck and feeling overwhelmed by the core affect during the process?

    So interesting... I've started noticing what I have heard others call glimmers, and really explore them inside... how do they feel? I can feel the potential of a rewiring as I do just that. Or I can feel it when I use simple tools to regulate my nervous system.... I am still mostly disregulated, but when a tool works, feeling empowered within and noticing changes something in the old wire. And even if it doesn't work, the fact that I recognize and TRY to regulate, brings a sense of "I can", rather than the old story of "nothing ever changes". It also feels like it all ads up, even if I can't always regulate my NS. So interesting

    Most modalities recognise that deep affective experience is healing. But getting the client to that experience is not at all simple. I feel AEDP glosses over this huge issue and imagines that clients will almost spontaneously feel deeply in sessions. Rarely happens

    Dr Olds, thank you so much for this. I have a question about mixing modalities like IFS and AEDP. I’ve have about 10 sessions of IFS now with some significant movement and shifts… should I consider AEDP now that I’m so invested in IFS? My thinking is that it may devalue some of that work I’ve done in IFS. Thank you kindly 🙏

      I know this is an older comment but memory reconsolidation can be woven into IFS. Hope you are doing well!

    Would this be the appropriate therapy for ultra intense fear, anxiety & dysregulation due to triggers from narcissistic and sexual abuse?
    I've lived so long in constant anxiety I feel like there's no hope in ever feeling normal.
    If not, what type of therapy would you recommend?
    Thank you Dr. Tori ❤

    • @JohnMoseley
      @JohnMoseley 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm not a therapist, but just because it's been a month and this might help, I'll say that AEDP was transformative in lifting my anxiety. I couldn't believe it when I found it. And I was just using the therapy as self help, based on what I learned from Hilary Jacobs Hendel's book on AEDP.
      Not necessarily suggesting you go a pure self-help route for something as severe as you describe, but it indicates that the therapy is a great address to anxiety. I think it's uniquely effective in this regard, in fact. Where other therapies get kind of hung up on anxiety - you reason with it (CBT) or stand up to your inner bully (Gestalt), AEDP understands anxiety (and shame and self punishment) as a kind of trick, a block on the deeper emotions. It thereby helps you move past it very quickly to feel those emotions (which, as described in this video, it also helps you make peace with and come to appreciate).
