  • TaylorMade's new P770, part of the successful P700 series, bring a unique design to the iron market. They're built with the same DNA as the P790 irons, but in a smaller, more compact shape. In this exclusive video, 2nd Swing's Drew Mahowald and master fitter Thomas Campbell conduct a Trackman test and comparison of the #TaylorMade #P770 irons and #P790 irons, which are being promoted by TaylorMade as a sibling rivalry.

    Thanks guys. I went with the new p770 6-pw and p790 4,5 iron 1.5 weak in 4 iron and 2 degrees weak in 5 iron loft.😊 i played them today and I love them. I even hit my 4 iron more then i ever woyld have. Having that weaker loft really gave me more confidence hitting long irons even if its a small difference.

    I tried the P790, I was impressed with the accuracy, consistency of the long irons. Including they offer and 2 and 3 iron. Impressed.

      Thanks for watching! We were surprised with the distance consistency with the P770s as well, especially with the hollow-body design (even if it is a much smaller hollow body than most).

    Great info, very straightforward/no BS review, well done guys. For my game/speed I went with the 790s and now better understand the difference between the 770s in the real world...thanks !

    Thanks for the review/free content. There is one consistent idea in your reviews that I would ask about? When you talk about dispersion it is almost always a left to right conversation. In my opinion that has nothing to do with the club and everything to do with that swing. Front to back dispersion however is never to rarely talked about and that does speak to the consistency of the club. Just my 2 cents. Thanks.

      Thank you for watching and for the feedback! We do try to touch on distance dispersion in our videos, apologies if we neglected it some in this video. You make a good point about the consistency of the club. We'll be sure to touch on this more in the future. Thanks!

      Front to back dispersion has just as much to do with the swing as right to left. Where you strike the ball on the face has a huge impact on distance dispersion.

    Gotta do a test with these irons in the same loft. When I sat these behind the ball I found it very hard to tell which club was which.

    I always enjoy watching Thomas swing, and I pay particular attention to his mechanics. It would be helpful if you would present his swing from additional perspectives - facing him straight on, and directly in rear. Just move the camera around when you video the swings, and then one can always view in slow motion or pause. Thomas has an excellent shoulder turn, starts his weight transfer before his back swing completes, rotates and posts up nicely - just would like to see this from other perspectives too. As to the club review, it is the usual excellent presentation. Thank you.

      @@canefan17 I'm an 18 handicap. Grew up hitting (cheap) blades so I love how the P790's set up like a traditional blade. Unfortunately my game demands more forgiveness so I'm switching over to Mizuno hot metal 919's so we'll see how it goes :).

    Smash factor 1.46 with a 7 iron.
    Are you sure ???

  • @emak4558
    @emak4558 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perhaps the very low smash factor on the 770 tells us that you were over swinging the 770 and making poor contact ??

    Thomas,
    On a p790 vs p770 gap wedge, how would you compare the forgiveness and performance on full shots and also for chipping and pitching? Also, how would you compare these two gap wedges versus a Vokey SM 8 50 degree gap wedge for forgiveness, feel and chipping and pitching? Thanks

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joe, thanks for watching and for the comment! The gap wedge comparison between these two will be similar to the iron comparison. The P790 will likely travel further and be more forgiving. A vokey SM8 50-degree will not go as far and will be less forgiving, but it will spin more.

  • @stevec2435

    Was there much difference in feel between the two? How would you describe the feel of the new p770?

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! Feel of the P770s is much softer than the P790s. Doesn't provide quite the feel of a forged players cavity iron, but it's pretty close.

    Why is it always the feckin 7 iron? Compare 6 irons or 3 irons and hook them further than most dudes hit their 3 woods

    Thanks for the great comparison, I asked the question on your jpx 921 review but these seam like they could be a better fit. How would you compare the 770 to apex pro 19? Is the 770 going to be more forgiving and how does the sole width compare to each other? Thanks for your time if your able to respond.

    I’ve ordered the P770 irons up to 5 iron. Was wondering if purchasing a p790 5 iron would fill a gap at the top end of the bag? Would mean carrying two 5 irons but they have different lofts.

    I’m looking on getting a set of p790. I know they fly off the face, but how does it react hitting on a green? Do they stop or just continue to roll?

    • @peterrod16
      @peterrod16 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the P790 irons make the golf ball stop on the green. Just play a multi layer golf ball.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do spin lower than a players iron, which is something to keep in mind with regards to stopping power. If you're a low-ball hitter, you'll want to pay attention to the lofts and perhaps make them weaker to help lift the ball into the air.

    Question - for 5ft 11 what do you recommend on shaft type for a 15 handicap player, left handed - do you recommend 0.5 inch longer on the shafts, regular or stiff shafts and how about the tip weight and launch angle...?

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark, thanks for the feedback here. It's hard to make a recommendation with the metrics provided here. Statically, height wise, you'd fit into STD length clubs, but again, that can always change dynamically (when you swing the club). Club speed, club path, dynamic loft are all essential things to look at during a club fitting. I would highly suggest a club fitting do narrow that down for you, and get the right clubs in your bag! -Danny

      I saw a video on this and the answer is yes. It was pretty much a face vs. face video and the upper hander (imo) went to the P770 - those opinions are due to looks, and feel. I hit both the P790 and 770 the other day and the 770 felt soooo much better.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surprisingly forgiving. The big difference (besides loft of course) is the distance consistency. The P790s can produce jumpers with a larger clubhead and stronger loft. The P770 maintains its distance for the most part
