    I was able to hit a P770 6 iron after one was left in the tee box from a group ahead. Not ashamed to say I hit a couple balls before I turned it in and I have never experienced that crispness of the ball coming off the face before. I was in awe! I gotta get a full set of these in the bag soon. Beautiful!

      I hit my dci’s pretty well but very high and spinny. Even my “knock down” shots are 120-140 in height. Just figured nearly 20 years was time for an update. The lofts are going to be interesting to get used to. Will be spending some time on range top tracer to get an idea.

    • @Millartime12
      @Millartime12 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ian Jackson it was. But both will play similar so not worried. Thinner top line would be nice but not a deal breaker for me. I’m a 12-15 type capper who doesn’t have time to play a ton and isn’t too picky.

    • @GolfRx
      @GolfRx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brad Millar 💯 .. I hit them spinny as well coz of the shaft. I prefer them spinning to stick on the greens without rolling off. If your swing speed average you will be going on to the fringe with 790.. test Wilson staff model blades. Compare them .. they were the closest for feel and loft

      Awesome, and lucky based on the delivery dates I'm seeing. Curious how you would describe your ball striking?? I'm leaning towards the 790s in 4 and 5 then getting into the 770s. Not a very consistent Striker, but decent club head speed.

    After 3 yrs with the p970s, I've moved to p770s following a fitting with Taylormade - I only found 3-4 yards in difference for me, but chalk & cheese with the spin, more hiehgt height & spin, 800rpm (but standard loft, so that would count for that difference) p770s so much easier to control (for me that is) - loved every shot with the p790s which have helped me improve my game, which has allowed me to move to an even better player irons for me. Would love to see a fit where you find the type of player that would benefit from these in like a 4-6 or 7 range but would out the MC in the bag for 7/8-wedge, and the process used to actually determine that?

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that is the definition of me. I'm a former cavity blade player (Taylormade C300 Forged Lehman Miura clubs), 20 years off, went to Mizuno Hot Metal Pros, weakened them, took the 5 iron out because didn't like seeing the back of the club and replaced it with a 24 degree HMB 5 iron (carry 197). Still take my Titleist AP2s out to the range, 5 iron when flushed is amazing but doesn't hold a candle to the HMB 5 iron. I could easily combo the MCs & P770s - 5 HCP, 108 Driver speed

    • @chrischampion727
      @chrischampion727 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This! 👆🏻Paul O’Neil you sound like me. I started playing 3 yrs ago after taking about 10 yrs off and went from the old Titleist DCI 990 to a used set of the original P770. Didn’t care for the P770 in the shorter irons but loved them in 4-6. Went to MP18 MMC/SC combo. Best irons I’ve ever played but been drooling over the P7MC since they came out. So much that I ordered a 6 iron to my current specs and shaft to test. Love it! I’m a 7 hcp with a sometimes scratchy short game but a pretty consistent ball striker. I’m not getting any younger (51) and gapping 4-6 could use a boost. A potential P770 / P7MC combo has my interest. 6 iron 90-92mph and currently play PX6.5.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrischampion727 we sound like clones - if the MP20 MMCs had of come out before the 919 Hot Metal Pros, I would have instantly bought them after testing. I did a lot of blade testing over a few day period so I got a pretty good feel for my ball striking and which club/loft, having the low in the head Tungsten, really makes a difference in the slight off-center hits - and that seems to be for me a 32 degree 7 iron. While I would, believe it or not, hit the 34 degree MP 20 Blade sometimes further than the 32 degree MMC (i think it is the additional mass directly behind the ball), it was the 1 in 4, 1 in 5 shot, where it was hit 1 groove low, that you would lose 7-10 yards (safe on the course yes - but the loss is real) versus the MMCs which would never miss. I've really bought into the 32 degree 'modern lofted' 7 iron and then I've also changed my loft gapping to slightly larger spreads so I can spread the traditional 47 degree PW to 24 degree 4 iron lofts using 1 less club - and thus gain a club. I've had TXG bend my Hot Metal Pros to (PW,9,8,8,6) & HMB 5 iron to (47,42,37,32,28,24) to give me carries of (133,146,159,172,185,197) - I then get 3 wedges (52/57/62) and 2 hybrids (21/17) and 3w&Driver. I also use a lighter shaft in my HMB 5 iron a graphite Steelfiber i110 - in my irons I use the 120gram DG S300 - I also use the Steelfiber i110CW shaft in my 22 degree #4 Gapr High (playing open at 21 degrees). If I was going to play the P7MC/P770 combo, I would try and do a similar setup that I created - but in this case, I think the 7 iron would be the problem as I would like to have tungsten/help in the toe and heel of the MC in a 32/33 degree 7 iron - but it isn't there - and I wouldn't want to go to a hot faced hollow-headed 7 iron - and thus I think the P760 line is still useful. The Titleist T100s also interest me, but I would order the PW & 9 in the non-S heads and blend to my specs (I really like a 47 degree PW)

    • @erikcrossley5048
      @erikcrossley5048 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wallstreetoneil I don't think the 770 has a "hot face" and you could get the forgiveness and feel from it in the 7 iron

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@erikcrossley5048 by hot-face, I mean it isn't a solid piece of metal. I was at a golf store today getting a wedge bent and I took a close look at the p770s - the PW sole width is an abomination - for anyone thinking of these clubs, order the P7MC PW instead. I would split the set at PW-8 (P7MCs) & 7-5(P770s) and bend the 7-5 to 32,28,24

    I currently game the 2019 p790s. They have been great clubs for me. That being said, I’m ordering p770s after getting fitted. Was worried about forgiveness but that went away after going to hit them on different days. Maybe it’s the more traditional lofts in the p770 that gave me tighter dispersion without any real distance loss. Also agree with softer feel like Matt said. I also went through the pxg fitting process. Was a good experience but I felt the Taylormade p790 and p770 were better for me.

    These game-improvement irons are incredibly easy to hit in comparison with previous game improvements. I came from the Nike Covert Forged 2.0, a great iron in its time, and swapped to the MP-20 HMB, an iron very similar to the P790/P770. (tested these too). If you only look at them coming from an older iron, you might be scared and think blades, but man, these are so easy to hit, i'd say a 20+ hcp player would fit these just as good as a 5 hcp player. I really recommend try these irons out if you get a chance. These are a real game changer for a whole lot of people with old irons. You do not need to hit these hard to have use of them either. As someone else said below, a 5 iron of these is as easy as the 8 iron of the old. It truly is.

    Great video although I do wish with both clubs you would purposefully hit few bad shots (off toe, heel, thin it) to test the forgiveness difference of each club.

    Very happy with my 790s, but I wonder if the short irons are similar between these two because you lose the hollow body and speed slot in the 770 below the 7i.

    Excellent video guys!
    Recently I was getting fit by a Taylormade rep and he noticed a slightly more spin, less distance from the 7i P770 in comparison to the 7i P790. Given the difference in stock lofts between these clubs that seemed logical. Your experimental data shows equally lofted the clubs would perform nearly identical. Rather than accept the difference in lofts as the disparity between clubs the rep thought changing shafts between both sets would be better than manipulating the lofts. He suggested I should be fit for P770 with KBS C Taper or P790 with KBS $ Taper.
    This seemed well and fine until I watched this video. The idea of combining the 2 sets P790 (3i-5i) + P770(6i-AW) seems like a good idea. I would rather tweak lofts for gapping rather than have 2 different shafts for the 2 sets of clubs. Thoughts?
    Could you guys clarify how you would gap the irons? The video is a little confusing as to degrees of loft for clubs. Video mentions P770 4i @ 21*, 5i @ 24.5*, 6i @ 28*. Wouldn't the P790s be the longer irons and transition to the p770s for the shorter irons?

    Personally I think that the new 770 is definitely for lower handicap players like +10> and I think the 790 are for +10< so if youwant more forgiveness and easier hitting clubs, then I think the790's are for you, but if u want smaller club size and less forgiveness cause u are a very consistent player who hits their irosn very well everytime then I defintely think that the 770's are for you. but I am a +9.2 handicap and own the p790's and I think they are absolutely perfect for me, I can't complain at all and love the feel and I think the numbers are super good.

    Great comparison! I would love to see a head to head with P770 and the P7MC for those that think they would be a killer combo.
    I know they’re a completely different design but how would you rate these vs the original P770? I played the original P770 and loved the forgiveness of long irons but the short irons just looked and felt kinda chunky to me so I moved on to MP18-SC.

    Current gamer 620 MB 7 iron (35) carries 174. Testing P770 (33) and 7 iron carries 190. Concerned about gapping as set gets shorter. Bend weak or combo with MC/MB to control yardages?

    • @Boss302ATC
      @Boss302ATC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forgiveness and extra (needed???) Distance vs consistancy of distance on good strikes and workability, do you feel you need distance or forgiveness? I'd you are still happy with a MB I would stay there, I feel like the downside to Matty testing is these aren't clubs he would play - they go too far! The best addition to the channel would be a slow speed Matty, that would be a game changer IMO. PGA players aren't great real world examples for us hacks, but watching JT these days smooth his irons instead of smashing them makes much more sense. Take one more club and swing smoothly, which may now make the case for the 770s??? Otherwise grab 770s and buy another gap wedge and lose the 4 iron!

      I have played the original p770's since they were introduced. I have hit the original vs the new p770's outdoors, but not on a machine. IMO, the original p770's feel better, and respond more like a players' iron. I noticed no increase in distance with the new p770. I love the look of the new model. I think the new version is very good, but I prefer the feel and playability of the original. Your experience may differ.
