I’ve always wanted to play 40k, but I took a look at the Rules for 9th and thought “well I guess that’ll never happen.
I was so happy to find OPR. The rules are easy and reasonable that I’ve taught several people to play
Getting people to get invested in the ever changing meta, dense rule set, and high priced miniatures of Warhammer is a tall task
OPR is the way to go

I agree. OPR just hit all the marks for me.

OPR wrote the suite of rules GW should have written but never will. GDF is my go to ruleset for my 40k miniatures now. I'll check out 40k 10th ed while its free, but from what I've seen so far 10th will be as much of a fail as 9th (from a fun game perspective).
    To answer your questions (GDF):
    1. Comfortable points value? 2000-3000pts. 2000 gives a solid game. 3000 allows you to upscale or increase the unit quality.
    2. Style of Game? We play with the card objectives. It gives a much more fluid game and really impacts the type of army you need to build. Essentially the card objectives mean you need to build a balanced force so that you have a good combination of mobility, firepower, and resilience. We don't use competative validation for our lists, but using the objective cards means that most of the armies we build meet those requrements anyway!
    3. Variant rules (extra actions). We tried a few when we experimented with Age of Fantasy Regiments (using it for historical battles), but we haven't used them in GDF yet. We may use them if we try GDF for a WWII variant.
    4. Solo play. Haven't tried.

I am looking forward to reading through the advanced rules.. But don't know if we will play with secondary objectives. But will use the cards. As they are my favorite way to play 40k.

I’m absolutely in love with One Page Rules. I play more Grimdark Future Firefight than anything else. For big games of Grimdark or Age of Fantasy I prefer from 1-2k point games.

The hard part is getting people to give it a shot. I live in an area that's basically "you play Warhammer or you play by yourself" so even though OPR lets you use 40k models, selling people on it almost impossible, and I've actually been met with near-violent hostility for suggesting it because it's not 40k.

It is hard to get people out of their comfort zone.

I agree with everything you're saying. I haven't played a game of 40k since 7th edition. I played from 5th through 7th and I'd buy all the books for two different armies and barely play any games and then a new addition would come out. Now they're retiring figures from my armies...I just wanna play with the models that I have! I really wanted to get back into 10th but seeing the direction they're going in, I'm going in the one page rules direction for sure.

the rank and flank version is called Age of Fantasy Regiments. It's a lot of fun! I find it more tactical since facing is so important.

Do you have to keep it fresh? Really? I mean chess is doing pretty well and doesn’t change every 3 years 🤣
Totally on board with what you are saying though. I’m back to it all after many years away. Started 50k 2nd Ed and stuff before that…space marine epic etc.
Loving your channel and loving GDF and GDF firefight. OPR is great for me as a 40 something for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
I was a big player of white dwarf’s serialised confrontation game back in the day which was the precursor to Necromunda . Activation was based on an initiative countdown with models activating when their initiative number was called.Really nice system.
Starting an Aos Skrmish campaign soon. Mordheim style. Hopefully on my channel.
Also a blood bowl player since second edition in the late 80s.
Love the new models, i’ve been playing me video game version and I’m not a huge fan of the turnover system. It just doesn’t make sense. Though I understand why it’s used to speed up the game.
Anyway hope you enjoyed the longest answer ever😂. Love the channel keep up the good work

I really loved mordheim back in the day.
      I still have the books.
Currently finishing off a necromunda campaign. ( again alternating activation... Which works great). But I would like to try OPR skirmish of sorts.

I like both 40k and GDF but I prefer to play GDF. It flows better and is far easier to teach and introduce new players. Having said that I really do like how much flavour you can build into your 40k armies if your not concerned with constantly chasing the meta.

40k has some great lore. But i agree that GDF plays better.

Agree with your comments completely . Best points for GF is IMO 3K nice balance to 2K in 40K games and enough for upgrades . But my friend is pushing 4K for our next game lol .

5k for us seemed a bit too large. 2k would give a nice size game for us.

Its difficult for people to go from w40k to opr because its their comfort zone. But with OPR its waaaaay more easy to introduce new players. Most friends of mine who are not so interested in wargaming so as to have their armies , will play opr with my minis but they will not play w40k. I have seen this again with with dota and lol and dnd 3.5 and 5e. In the end the more accessible and less complicated game will get popular.

Grimdark for the Win! I really like OPR and have played several of their games. I haven't played 40k since 5th. I tried a demo or 2 of 8th but couldn't get into it. As I have a serious case of gamers ADD I really like the mini agnostic view. I love your tank shelf.

We are really enjoying GDF as well.
It's a great chance to bring out all of our old Star Wars minis, old GW minis that are no longer supported.
The ability to 3D print custom looking armies is a huge draw for many also.
