N4 is just more, wich is amazing but it's also amazing theres a smaller game to start) It's set in the near-ish future. Couple hundred years from now. It's based on real-world countries and stuff. Most sci-fi fantasy stuff is basically advanced tech they discovered at some point like super materials, wormhole stabilization or super organic medicine and specially IA So basically, humanity colonized a handful of planets, most modern countries reorganized themselves in super countries led by PanOceania (Australia, India, Indonesia and another non-US liberal countries) and YuJing (super China that "won" the cold War against the US and the UE but have been now overtaken again by PanO, sorta) Humanity has had some wars but the powers are mostly at peace... Except the aliens attack. Basically the covenant. At current point of history it's not yet a full on war but multiple beach heads... Like Tyranid invasion for example. Infinity is more of a spec ops game than a full on wargame, so mission between human factions (Wich are the most since theres only one (quite big) alien faction... I mean they're two but the big bad is the EI, the covenant) are spec ops and black ops between them. Stealing information, selective assassination, stuff like that. Humans aren't at war with each other buuuut we all now there's a cold War underneath. Still, for ordinary people is still normal life. Factions are super cool. I love that they're realistically humans but still super original. PanO, basically liberal utopia. The ultra power. Tolerant, religious, technological. They've got literally power armored catholic knights. YuJing. Super powerful china. Communist empire (yeah future politics are weird but they tried to make them quite realistic). They're... China. Best heavy standard army and ninjas. Nomads. 3 anarchist super ships based on unrestricted information, unrestricted labor, and unrestricted trade. They've got a mix of everything. And I mean it. The most expensive mech and armed furries in the same army Ariadna. A Lost colony of old powers, Russia, US and UE that developed their own culture. Brave, bold, backwards in tech but they've had werewolves so... Haqquislam. Golden age of Islamic science and culture 2.0 rich, asymmetrical, they've got a monopoly on medical tech. They've got Capitan Islam basically. 0-12. ONU but actually useful Aleph. So... Yeah. THE IA, all the others are baned (say that to the nomads). Basically a computer god that care about humanity... And has cloned Achilles as a captain in their independent army. The combined army. The covenant of Halo basically, lead by the Evolved Inteligence, another AI god but... Gengis Khanish. They've got a super weird army but they're scary as hell. Also the gameplay. Complex but the basics are easy to learn. The action economy system is amazing. You have a set amount of moves and can distribute as will among units. Best part, the other player can have a mini reaction if you move someone in their line of sight. Stealth and speed are extremely important so there are also camo and paratrooper units and hacking is a thing. Sorry for the long text I really got excited XD there are not many players, but it's a great universe. I really should try to play it more. Corvus Belli is also an amazing company. All rules are free, models are super crisp and cheap compared to the devil, proxy is legal in tournaments, and there are free oficial (I think) mods for tabletop simulator.
Company of Heroes styled would be a better fit, but CoH1 was the logical mechanical improvement to DoW1 anyways. Too bad they didn't keep the lessons going to into DoW2 until it was too late for anyone to care, and then new people completely botched DoW3 and CoH3 when both should have been super easy slamdunk wins and money printing machines.
You know in Smiling Friends cannon there was the great critter war (critters are what Pim and Charlie are). So, comparing Smiling friends with Quar goes deeper than you think.
Me and my brother have been talking about using the quar as a tau axuilla race that joined the greater good. Makes fighting the weirdly adorable race as imperium kinda sad in a way lol
I'm so happy that the Quar are getting some attention. It is definitely a labor of love from their creator, and the passion and creativity shows. They're cool little models, and the game itself is fun (with an interesting turn mechanic). I'm looking forward to more of your Quar stuff.
A cool thing with Quar is that if you want vehicles you can through in basically every pre-WW2 vehicle or tank and they fit the aesthetic. Just no Panzers, T34s, or Shermans really.
I really like how you brought up that the fighting forces are all Quar, because that's what really captures me about Battletech, is that the differences are all in the culture and ideologies which makes them seem to burn all the hotter.

it's weird seing so much Quar stuff over the last month, it feels like a lot of people are finding out about it and it's gaining a lot of traction of youtube and reddit. Very neat video! I'll have to check this out!
A fun little detail about wargames atlantic bases is that you can glue figures with puddles on the other side. And then all you have to do is to fill the rest with whatever you feel like. Keeps everything level. And WGA uses the same kind of plastic as GW. Maybe not an exact blend, but high impact polystyrene is high impact polystyrene. The fits are not as precise though, so I will suggest a thicker plastic cement instead of extra thin.

This game really really reminds me of the video game FOXHOLE. The two sides are green and blue. Blue is old school and vaguely French, the green is fighting for change. Both sides are in the wrong. I spent why to much time play foxhole so This right up my alley. Thanks man.
I played for like a week straight between Christmas and NewYears a couple years ago. I loved wasting the fruits of labor of some poor midwestern kid on winter break
@@ImmobileLizard I for four wars straight spend early to midwar grinding resources by myself to make 100 heavy tanks with ammo and full kits for when They unlocked. my guild would Hammer all of them and hand them out to all those waiting for there MPF's to bake. I am very used to wasting my time for someone who tells me Im wasting resources.
As a warning, Heavy Gear's plastic models are terrible. I did a bunch on commission a few years ago. Cheaply produced and brittle plastic compared to other manufacturers. They cost far more than the old metals they replaced and have significantly worse detail. I have never seen a transition from metal or resin to hard plastic that was a straight downgrade and worse deal before.

I found out about Quar last year or so, and instantly became enamored with the whole vibe. So I was really glad to see Wargames Atlantic, one of my favorite third party manufacturers, work together with Zombiesmith to bring these Little Guys to hard plastic. If I didn't already support WA's "The Damned" campaign, and thus have one already, I'd be tempted to turn Quar minis into a Guard army. I might still grab a box and kitbash a Kill Team out of it, though, somewhere down the line. They're just awesome sculpts and work really well as Abhumans.

Quar very much have this sorta vibe that reminds me of Ralph Bakshi films and old Opus comics, and a small splash of the water-color charm of the 1995 movie adaptation of The Wind in the Willows. You know, the sorta vibe that old European comics and newspaper strips used to have, if that all makes sense.
You should definitely check out more Wargaming alternatives- some absolutely phenomenal creativity and super unique miniatures out there. Some of my favorites- Malifaux, Infinity, Bushido, Relicblade, Moonstone, Conquest: Last Argument of Kings, Judgement Eternal Champions, Kingdom Death

If you have or are thinking of leaving 40k because of its new audience, trench crusades shares the same sentiment as the new fans of 40k

Clicking on this not even as someone who plays table top and is just curious and then hearing a heaven smile laugh immediately caught me off guard lol
I found out about Quar last year or so, and instantly became enamored with the whole vibe. So I was really glad to see Wargames Atlantic, one of my favorite third party manufacturers, work together with Zombiesmith to bring these Little Guys to hard plastic.
If I didn't already support WA's "The Damned" campaign, and thus have one already, I'd be tempted to turn Quar minis into a Guard army. I might still grab a box and kitbash a Kill Team out of it, though, somewhere down the line. They're just awesome sculpts and work really well as Abhumans.
First time hearing of this franchise at all....and I'm really lovin these cute lil guys and their WW1-esk conflict. :D

I’m ironically putting together the Quar starter box myself…
Quar very much have this sorta vibe that reminds me of Ralph Bakshi films and old Opus comics, and a small splash of the water-color charm of the 1995 movie adaptation of The Wind in the Willows. You know, the sorta vibe that old European comics and newspaper strips used to have, if that all makes sense.
