Thank you. Fixed my Altima today with the same issue. Valve was junk. Tested everything like you did, except I used a battery.

What you replaced is your vent valve. The purge valve is located under the hood.

Absolutely amazing video. Thank you for not only covering the 'how' bit, but also the 'why'. Just replaced my own on my 2010 Altima - the shop did a smoke test and wanted $1500 to do it, saying they'd need to drop the gas tank and the whole exhaust system. We'll see how we did if the Check Engine light comes back on.
If it does I may need to look at replacing the whole canister - not sure how much more involved that will be, but with your video this was easy and fast! Thanks for taking the time to make and share. :)

After the repair, it was fine for a while. Then it through an evap code again, however, now the light will go back off on its own. So I am convinced I still have a small leak. It might be as simple as the gas cap. I now push in on it while tightening to try and ensure a better seal after buying gas.

@@stevewatr I appreciate your honest reply! I tried replacing my gas cap first, but the check engine light came back on relatively quickly. Mine was throwing the codes P0456 (very small leak) and P0442 (small leak), though after the smoke test the purge valve was the only issue they found. I've driven a little over 100 miles since replacing it and the light hasn't come back on yet, but I do still smell exhaust fumes seeping into the car while I drive from time to time, so I'm thinking there could be something else happening also.

Hi Steve im having a problem with my 2012 nissan it's giving me trouble with small leaks I got that same part. Is this not the problem. Also I noticed in my gas filler pipe I thought I had a flap that would go up and down when using a gas nozzle. It was there and now its not there like its stuck in the pipe. Would this be why I have a evap leak.

I had this problem and had a small leak to high leak code. I replaced it with a new one and now I’m getting a circuit stuck open code. Do u have any suggestions?

An evap system leak can result in poor gas mileage.
