Lol, yeah, the things that used to be your training eventually become your warm up. So just look a the things you can do with some confidence and use that as your own personal warm up routine.
Great moves. I’m in awe of your back edge pulls! I find warming up SO helpful for getting the most out of my skating. Even riding my bike fast to the rink instead of driving makes a big difference to how agile my legs feel.
Hi Julia, enjoyed this great warm up video . . very clean. Of course, in any rink . . . whether it's public skate, adult skate (some rinks offer that . . . meaning some sessions are like public but only for over age 18), figure skating group lessons or whatever, 99 percent of the time we don't have an empty rink like you were able to demonstrate on. Apart from this Covid time, where the numbers of people allowed on at one time are down, if rinks are open at all in some locations, in most regular times (non-Covid) , it's not always easy to just open up and do our warm up routine, as everyone else there is just as important as the next person and they all want to have a bit of space as well. In a busy rink, It can be quite challenging to have our eyes everywhere, try to do our thing while others are doing their thing and everyone (well mostly everyone) is trying their best to be courteous and not have a collision with someone. If you get the chance sometime, I would love to see a tutorial on backward crossrolls (tips that one can work on). My forward ones are totally fine, but find the backward ones so awkward. I loved the ones you did. Cheers :)
The circle tip is so helpful for positioning hands and hips, it's a rebirth discovering the outside edge mysteries you know, I was stuck with hockey stops and nothing more...After 4 hours I get the backward and forward crossover, bunny hop, t-stop... Tomorrow I try working on flying camel and of course train all your mind-blowing exercises (warm up off and ice, ina Bauer, etc)...ps I have hockey skates. Thanks a million times for your great work editing and explaining, you will be a great wife and mummy congratulations for your engagement he is a lucky guy Cheers from Spain God bless you all Julia
This are perfect. I always try to warm up a little and help my daughters, but I never really k kw what to do so I make up things. I am happy to have a sequence of moves I can practice. My plan is to take the first moves in the field (pre bronze) this July, and noe I know how to better warm up and prepar for my practices. Thank you ❤️.
Thank you for the new video, coach Julia. I know this is a little bit difficult for me but I'll always try. 😊 I love your three turn footwork post, I always look forward for more footwork for beginner&intermediate level 🥰
Loved this - lots to work towards. I found I really enjoy training sessions and need about an hour and a half to truly get everything done and feel good.
At 41, there are days I skate for 90 min, take a 30 min break, do 60 more min, take a 60 min break, and then finish with a 45 min skate. Im also dead to the world the next and alternating ice packs and soaking in a hot-tub. Mostly just a 90 min skate every afternoon is enough though. Grateful to be blessed with this body at my age. I would love to see what I could do if time and finances would let me train full-time. Maybe some day! Best of luck to you all!
Hi, fantastic video! Thank you! Would you sometime do a video on how to do power pulls? I try to do them, but they are nigh to impossible, don't know what I'm doing wrong!😣
I’m a coach who still skates ( mostly ice dance) & I pretty much do most of the same warm ups as you, lol. I also incorporate some figures ( I’m also older than you & I did figures growing up) keep up the good work!
Hi Julia, thank you for a wonderful warm up!!! I got my wall bag... even though there was so many to choose from...I wound up getting the same one as you! Gorgeous!!! ❤❤❤
Hello again Julia! Do you have any video on how to do 1 foot slalom? I'm back on the ice after my surgery and my classmates have learnt to do it while I was on sick leaving, but I don't manage. Thank you!
Hey Coach Julia!! Love your videos! Thank you so much! I wanted to leave a comment because I think you are SUCH a good teacher and it's SO helpful to see ice skating techniques broken down into comprehensible steps. I'm curious if you would be able to do this for forward and backward edge pulls! Again, loving your videos! Thank you!
Love the video! The back extension is everything! I'd love to see a video on that and maybe similar moves. I can imagine that this move is the foundation of some other moves and jumps which would be a dream to develop into. Aw my rink has turned into a vaccination location so no skating here for a while :(
About how long do your on-ice warm ups take? If I do EVERYTHING warm-up wise, it takes me about 10 minutes out of my 60 minute FS session. If I'm not having a lesson, I'll do about 10 minutes of warm ups (I also include the forward outside 8 from Adult Bronze MIF, forward/backward edges (both edges), and then finish with doing crossovers, using the Adult Gold pattern(ish...working more on power right now than the speed). Then, from there, if it's a normal session, I'll spend the next 10 minutes or so on spins, then jumps (I have a jump pattern/order that I do), then I may break down some some stuff as needed towards the end of the session. If I get through that, or if I start getting tired (or if my brain needs a break), I may do some "fun" elements for the last few minutes....like working on my inside edge spread eagles.
This is amazing! I can't quite do everything yet, especially power pulls, but practicing these things every day will hopefully help! Unfortunately I don't have ice and only inlines, but I really hope I can still practice these things in my nearby parking lot :D
Hey Coach, your mask is trendy and I got my shots so hope the rinks let us take them off soon. I liked the mask at first going out on the ice in the winter, but after the warm-up, it takes out all the fun of the work-out...
So glad! As our skating skills improve, we change our warm ups to match. So for whatever level you are at, I encourage you to look at what skills you have already gotten down, and use those as your warm up, even if it is just forward and backward swizzles!
Just a question. I haven’t been taking figure skating lessons for very long, about 7-8 months. When she referred to "edge pulls" it looked really similar to a 1 foot slalom. Is there a difference?
Yeah, I know, as our skills improve, we have to have a more challenging warmup. So just look at the skills you have that are becoming easier for you, and use them as your warm up!
Coach julia your perimeter, 'back extensions' moves are to die for...impressive! Could you possibly do a tutorial on just this move
1:08 lap stroking
1:15 stretch upper body
1:27 russian stroking (F crossover, inside edge extension
1:50 B crossover, extension
2:28 F cross steps
2:58 B cross steps
3:36 B edge pull, F
More tailored warmup for footwork, jumps
4:41 B swizzle, jump & click boots, quickness
4:57 strong waltz jump
5:12 MITF, footwork, swizzle
5:43 power pull, rocker rocker
Thanks for providing a break down!
Hey coach! I just had my first figure skating lesson yesterday and it was so much fun. Your videos have been so helpful for me! 😁
That is awesome!
how are your skating skills now? have you continued doing figure skating and lessons for it?
Nothing more satisfying than the sound of a blade's edge cutting through crisp ice. ❤️
Such a good sound
@@CoachJulia The best!

Indeed, these warm ups are totally end goals for me lol

I can do forwards crossrolls, but I always fall on the backwards ones! They're so hard!
I'd love a video about edge pulls. My stiff old knees really struggle with them.

Great warm exercises. Phenomenal videos as always. Would love to see your instructions for shoulder use in skating. ~Gus

Yeah, an hour and a half is a great length! I used to train for 3 hours at a time in my teens, but I couldn't do that anymore.

Thank you so much Coach Julia! Awesome stuff as always! Will you do more jump tutorials in the future? Yours are the best I’ve ever seen. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much! I have a Toe Loop tutorial planned for mid may.
I'm sending this to my coach for us to work on next week.... Can you do a tutorial on front and back Cross rolls.... I really wanna learn those.

Great! Gave me a lot of fresh ideas 😀
Awesome, glad to hear it!
Hey coach , starting a lesson in a couple weeks . Any good pre tips for backwards ? I watched loads of ur vids so helpful 🥰(I can rollerblade )
This is so great, thank you!!!
I have a question for you. There are swing rolls and cross steps but is their such a step as a cross roll?
Teach us double rockers !!!

I am sooo glad we don't have to wear them anymore at my rink. They always got so gross with the condensation. 🤢
Hi Julia,
I don’t have to Jump for my Ice-dancing exam in Decembre
Some of the exercises are to difficult for me, but I still enjoyed this video❤

Why do you find it too difficult, may I explain you, how I went to make it.
As a television network executive once said (three decades ago) to a young Kristi Yamaguchi, "Your English is great!"
😆

This is great but seems more advanced
As I said, it is a warm up routine that I personally use, and I have been skating for 35 years. So possibly a bit advanced for some.

not for beginners😢
No, it’s my personal warm up. I can make an easier one though if there is interest.
masked? when you;re alone on the ice? logic?
At the time it was required by the rink.
