Your follow up shots really show the sparkle on the trial pieces, I'm glad it worked out for you.

What ratio of mica powder did y’all settle on

Depending on the level of shimmer you want - 2.5 teaspoons of powder shimmer per quart - I recommend doing 1 good coat of the color you want to use then do your second coat of matching metallic mix as your second coat - if you want extra shimmer then use the flakes at half teaspoon or 1 teaspoon mixed in per quart to the shimmer powder. This worked best as a top coat.

I wonder how this is versus Rust-Oleum Epoxyshield

Not sure, I haven’t tried it. Is it a primer or a bed liner?

@@ontherocks_offthegrid Oh sorry it is called Permashield 200 sold by Monopole inc. They have tons of coating products top tier stuff.

I'm not so interested in the appearance of primer that is tinted, has mica added or has metallic powder added, because all of my applications would be exposed to sunlight and the UV will break down the epoxy primer. If I wanted pretty effects, I'd be interested in a top coat of tintable bed liner with metallic powder and/or mica.
I'm actually more interested in the ability to thin the polyurethane bed liner and either spray or micro fiber roll it to get a smoother finish with similar durable properties as the textured bed liner. You mentioned that near the beginning of the video and I was hoping you'd try that experiment. Did you ever have any success with that?

Well of course the best look for the flake coat would be to have a solid color under it, not primer. I tinted primer because I had limited amounts of the liner to work with and wanted to have some color under the shimmers for contrast. You have to put the shimmer effects in the liner with no tint as the tint they use swallows it - so to speak- I did try that with some of it and that’s why I recommend using it as a top coat and not mixed with tint.
I personally have not done the smoother finish tests with a different but I have seen people do it in the past when monsta was first getting started. But a lot of people do spray it on as it is sprayable as well and they sell a reducer on their site to thin it with. That is super common and there are lots of photos out there of peoples rigs that have been sprayed.

@@ontherocks_offthegrid - Thank you for your detailed reply.
It certainly seems that Monstaliner bed liner could be thinned and sprayed with a paint gun if the viscosity is correct and I'd expect a much smoother surface finish, although with more coats needed for the same thickness. I have watched all of the TH-cam videos on Monstaliner that I can find and never saw anyone even trying to get a smooth surface finish and Monstaliner doesn't seem to recommend any processes that produce a smooth finish. They sell three different spray guns but they are all Schutz guns designed to produce a textured finish. I think it'd be great to have a heavy textured surface in a pickup bed and a smoother (lower aerodynamic drag and easier to clean) surface on the rest of the truck that's the same color and the same durable material.

At the end of the day it wall always have some level of texture, it’s a bedliner after all. A lot of their colors are formulated for color match on a lot of automotive paint colors from popular brands like Chevy, ford and Jeep.
At the end of the day if you want a perfectly smooth finish a bedliner product of any kind isn’t what you’re looking for. I personally really like the texture of it whether sprayed or rolled as it’s still “soft” to the touch and not prickly or scratchy feeling like a lot of others tend to be. The soft gloss to it also looks like paint from a few feet away. You don’t realize it’s textured until you get closer. Either way do what works for you. I’m sure you’ll find something that suits your needs
Also - monstaliner is UV permanent it’s one of the only bedliner on the market that doesn’t fade

@@ontherocks_offthegrid - Monstaliner doesn't have chopped rubber bits in the mix like Raptor and similar bed liners use to create texture. Monstaliner texture is a function of the application. In theory, it could be thinned and sprayed to make a smooth surface, but again, I've seen nobody doing that and some people would like that for car painting instead of bed lining, so it may clump a bit no matter how much its thinned. I've seen brushed on Monstaliner that has only a slightly wavy texture. If I have any luck spraying it smooth, I'll post here and make a video showing how I did it, but like you, I like some texture for my rough and tumble applications. I'll apply Monstaliner for more texture in the pickup bed and less texture everywhere else. I may use a large brayer to dry roll the semi-cured Monstaliner to reduce the texture to something that is still scratch resistant but less aerodynamic drag with shallower crevices for dried mud to hide.
