    Just wanted to come back and thank you. I bought a 79 Bronco that was covered in bedliner. It was much harder to deal with than I anticipated until I watched this video. Saved me a tonne of time and money.
    The liner peeled right off

      @@Thathippylookindude in some areas it went right down to bare metal mostly it took off the bedliner. I found that it was key to put a good coat on and then cover directly with plastic. The longer the stripper stayed wet, the more it chewed through.
      Just finished stripping the entire 79 Bronco last Night as I had run out and had order delays. If you are looking to remove bedliner, I would definitely start here. Saved me huge money

    Learned about the plastic sheeting a couple years ago. It keeps the stripper from drying out. As long as that stuff is wet, it keeps chewing. Saran Wrap works really well also and sticks to everything easier than plastic sheets, if you're doing smaller parts.

    I been using Citrus remover for years now, started using it to really clean my areas where I was Leading repair to make sure every little pin hole was clean. Since it's nontoxic nature product my Lead lays like butter, when I used Airplane striper if I didn't get it 100% clean of the striper I noticed my Lead was just acting funny, it's hard to explain.
    I found out about the Citrus striper from my Cast Iron Cookware group when I was restoring an old Griswold wood fire oven trying to remove the tar like paint someone painted it with and removed it like nothing I have seen before and it's safe for the environment

If I remember correctly it is recommended to do gloves eye protection and respirator. Sometimes it's not even the product you're using but the product that you're trying to break down. Not trying to give you a hard time or anything it's just we all need to do better for our family's and set better examples. I'm guilty of it myself sometimes.

  • @mikeward2922
    @mikeward2922 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question. I'm doing a restoration where I am trying to find the original primer color painted on the underbody. However, the car's underbody sheet metal seems to have a thin layer of a grey/black rhino liner type coating. I say that because the texture is certainly there - kind of similar to an 80 grit sandpaper, but smooth vs. abrasive. Not sure really what it is but I don't think it's primer. Also, it doesn't seem to be rubbery like undercoating. It's hard. Anyway, have any thoughts on removing just that layer to have a chance at the primer underneath? I have used citrus remover before, and I think if you let it sit only minutes, you have a chance at seeing the layers come off vs. everything above the metal. Otherwise, I thought of a flap disc, maybe a layer at a time. Thoughts?

    • @ES4406
      @ES4406  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would try areas of both methods to see which one can give you the best results. We have only used citrus strip for paint removal and recently rhino liner in this video(which we do not know the type of product because it came from another shop)..... finding the original color substrate should show either way scraped or grinding.

    I brought my truck and it already had the rhino liner on it. But it’s a 04 truck. The liner is coming off due to age. I want to have it redone. But it save me a lot of money if I can strip it by myself. Do I have to get every square inch of it off? Also should I wait for a hot day do it? Because I live up north where it’s only in the 50’s. Also for the plastic, can I use a plastic paint drop cloth?

      I'm researching to remove an aftermarket spray in liner from an 04 truck as well. I'm curious what route you ended up taking. Would you mind sharing your experiences?

    • @surfindude23
      @surfindude23 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pdab4372 I ended up not having to remove it. I took to a mechanic that helped me spray the new liner on. He told me to basically taken a hard plastic grinder or you can use sandpaper to scuff it up. Make sure you do the whole entire bed . Every square inch of it. You want to get rid of a sheen in the liner or see that it looks all scratched up. This way, when you spray on the new liner, it doesn’t want to peel off. I didn’t mine back around October, and I have had no problems with the new liner wanting to come off.
