I built a small camper, starting with a scratch built aluminum trailer, then 5/8 inch hardwood plywood for the exterior, an inch of polyiso insulation and 1/4 plywood for the interior. I covered the frame with black Monstaliner and the cabin with desert sand Monstaliner. One thing I noticed in this video is that he didn't do the base coat prep work that Monstaliner says is critical. We (my wife and I) started with sealing all of the wood with spar urethane before we assembled anything. Then the frame was painted with automotive primer (all of the metal parts of the camper that were covered with the Monstaliner were primed first). For both wood and metal, we covered everything with the 'required' coat of Monstaliner's 'chassis saver'. Then we rolled on the actual Monstaliner top coat. I'm not sure that leaving out the base coats will result in a long lasting finish.
Great show of patience it’s looks great. I have used this stuff many times on Jeep bumpers and trim pieces. They need to address the roller issue. The rollers fall apart during the second coat almost immediately due to the thickness. Word of advice clean once ever 4-5 months with 303 protectant spray it makes the paint pop again.
@@johndoe-wk1ru Air Force barracks. So as long as you're not underage drinking, nobody cares. I've seen people ripping out engines and transmissions. It wasn't until much later that I learned that the base has a paint shop you can rent. Would've been super helpful.
I got some black monstaliner to roll on for my new bumper but I think I'm going to see how much it will cost to have it sprayed on for the body. Good job though for doing it in a parking lot.
BE CAREFUL with the sanding in prep for painting!! - i did that too and didn't realize the clear coat would start to come up which it did about a year after it was painted!!
I mainly used that sanding brush. It was like 80grit. Self-etch primer for bare metal and all-surface for badging and plastic. Areas of good paint were just roughed up with the brush or included scouring pads.
Riiiight. I have 2 Jeep Cherokees ('91 Ltd Ed. and a '94 Country). If you ever find yourself making travel plans to come to the US, more specifically Texas (Tom Green County), I'll sell you one. Take care, BrandyF from West Texas.
So you just sanded the car and put that paint on it? Only primer on the logo's and stuff? I don't understand what you did on the inside of the doors ... rustoleum? Just rust prevention?
Not sure if people think I'm joking or not, but it is literally Lead-based paint. Lead Chromate is used to make the vivid yellow and orange colors. It's not dangerous though because it's all locked up in the epoxy substrate.

This guy is so wholesome
I’m confused isn’t the 2 gallon kit 275? Where do the other $500 in expenses come in?
Little purchases like extra rollers and stuff from the hardware store. It all adds up quick.
Was he painting his car in some random parking lot? 😂 🍒
Looks like the barracks parking lot. Don't let the 1SG catch you!
@@johndoe-wk1ru lol 1sgt won’t be found anywhere near base on a weekend.

wonder if it could be applied with an undercoat gun?
The instructions come with provisions for spraying with a gun.
Great video, great results for diy.
Is it hard to clean??
sweet. how is this holding up?
Very cool. I love the orange. I have an old CJ which may get this application. I don’t know how this got recommended to me, but am glad that it was.
links to the decals???
Is that the "road rash" color because I am going to do my TJ that color this spring?
Apocalypse Orange.
@@gui577b I like it!! Nice comeback!
Removing the old bedliner was so satisfying to watch
Indeed, oddly satisfying.

Has extreme paint finish
Fears ducks
???
Thank you
What is the name of the color you chose? I really like it!
Apocalypse.
Great vid! How many coats? And would you do this again? Tks
2 coats on the main body. I would absolutely do it again, but maybe spray it instead of roll it.
@@gui577b I'm considering rolling on. Can I ask why you would spray if you could do it again?
I hope you still have this XJ, this looks great. What did you sand with? did you use any primer after sanding the body?

Dude, yes. Looks dope
Where can I get it love that color
surely that textured surface gave a MPG increase?
LOL.
Excellent video!
Looking for my own Cherokee XJ here in Belgium ... already got a list of things I want to do with the car. LOL

Correct. The inside doors were sanded and sprayed with Rustoleum bedliner for purely aesthetic purposes.
a question asked a couple times but not answered, is how much actual paint was used to get 2 complete coats?
2 Gallons for the orange, 2 quarts for the black.
@@gui577b thanks...trying to get an idea so i can do my 89 toyota pickup

Could you not use a wider type roller for the larger expanse areas....??
No. You are fully panicking when rolling it on so more tools are just going to be a distraction.
Do the mud stains come off easy ??
Yes, very easily.
Which color was this??
Here's an alternate method that also uses rollers: th-cam.com/video/9gDz5W9s4Ps/w-d-xo.html
How's it holding up. Love the color
It looks the same 2 years later as the day I rolled it on. Very happy with the longevity.
@@gui577b tell me you did a second coat and third coat?
IT'S NOT A CAR!!!🇺🇸😘
thank you.
It's a piece of junk lmao
Its a classic capable Jeep with lots of possibilities
You’re screwed man the deer will never see you coming lol
how long does the bedliner paint last?
Forever.
Indefinitely. Still looks great 2 years on.
how has it held up?
march 2020..you still own this ? how's it holding up ?
Like new.
Why not paint over the Herculiner
To be honest? It's shit. It was wearing away and I didn't want shit undermining my hard work.
How is it holding up?? I'm thinking about doing mine black..but I'm afraid it'll fade after a few weeks
It's holding up great!
@@gui577b do you think color black will fade out quick??
Yeah, I have the same concern, it seems like black color will fade fast and look gross afterward.
@@mr_4point681 It absolutely holds up. Very happy with it.

It's holding up extremely well.

Dude bread is terrible for ducks. feed them grapes n shit
Great video man! Also you have a voice for radio/TH-cam videos lol
Agreed!
How much did this project cost
Hard to say with all of the little items I bought for prep and finishing. I'd say around $600.
how is long ish term holding up?
Extremely well.
How much paint did you use
2 gallons color plus 2 quarts black.
I was going to do Isuzu trooper just like this
"The directions say not to add everything in the can."....tries to add all of the shit in the can. 🤦😅
Orange peel texture on your orange jeep!
I just had someone recomend this to me on my xj.
"pretty sure its lead based"
Its delicious!
Great, now you'll have to buy a stun-gun to keep the inner-city kids from licking it off!

Cool.
No way!!
Should of raptor lined it.
Looks like something that came out one of our child's assess .. $800 Babys first shit. Sorry I'll stick to Rustoleum spray method
Rust-Oleum is better
How many cans did it take total and how many coats did you get ?
2 gallon cans for two coats of the orange, 2 pints for the black.
Hows it held up?
