    Thanks so much for watching and your feedback! We know that all drum companies have great gear and we are not here to say anything bad against another company. We are here to push forward and improve on what we believe our unique approach has already upheld with ourselves...if that makes sense. :)

    Buying DW is not just about quality, and the best hardware and shells on earth, but their service is unbeatable!!! I ordered my kit and when the retailer fucked up the order John Good called me personally to assure me he would solve the problem and he did!

    Thanks so much for choosing DW! We love hearing you like your DW's so 100 times is totally fine with us. :)
    For the Super Solid the deepest we can is a 5.5x14. We found the shell had a quick decay as is because of the thick wall the Super Solid has already. We hope this can work for you. You will still get the deep sounding, projecting sound you are looking for, for a metal snare drum application. Thanks again!

    Great question. We originally name the rings "reinforcement" to strengthen the shell but when we figured out how strengthen the shell without the rings and took the rings out, it changed the sound of the shell dramatically. The reinforcement rings/hoops are there for sound qualities for the Super Solid helping the focus the shells note.

    Thanks so much! We are stoked to hear you are liking the sound of our snare drums. Our Exotic finishes are another ply of wood over the outside of our shells. They can be pretty tricky to adhere to our shells because of Burl marks and sap content. Sometimes we will get a run of a certain Exotic wood with too much sap content and have to discontinue that style until we can get a dryer strain.

    Brother's & Sister's, i'd just like to say without a doubt the DrumWorkshop Super Solid 5.5 X 14, 3/4" Snare Drum is a work of art. The sound is simply outstanding from the lightest touch to a thunderous drum roll. And the finish that I requested ( Natural Curly Maple is a sight to see )......Much Kudos to John Good & Bo Mathew's @ DrumWorkshop for making it all possible. Thanks Guy's !

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Mjbabycakes7072 great questions. It's true that due to the unique bending process, the shell doesn't want to spring out of round. So the thick sections are not primarily for strength. Instead, they primarily function as sound enhancers, pushing more vibrational energy to the center of the shell giving a punch, more focused sound which DW Drums are famous for. Because the hoops are all part of the solid shell (not glued in), there is no more extra glu than if they were not there at all.

  • @dwdrums

    Thanks so much!! We very much appreciate your feedback and your educated opinion about our gear. You can't have our man Filiberto's job though. He's been at it for a while now. :)

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok we hear you Mark. Currently we are only making snares out of wood we have in stock. We can say that any of the Super Solids will have a high end pitch because of the density of the wall thickness.

    @Pmrs745 No worries! Your Finish Ply kit is a Collector's Series. The finish ply will not affect the sound of your shell. We have since changed the design of our badges. Sorry about that. Black Diamond is great finish. Good choice!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @killjoyshidae1208 Great question! The solid shells are one solid piece of wood without plies basically so we can not apply the SSC technology to these types of shells. The SSC works for shells with a ply configuration. Meaning that with different amounts of plies and varying grain patterns within those plies together make up SSC. Hope that makes sense. Can be a little tech sometimes to explain. :)

    Keep up the Innovation!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, The hoops allow us to make thin or thick shells. I wouldnt make a 3/8 thick shell without a hoop. The thicker ones may not require the hoop though, its more for consistency. JG

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    We long for you! Great to hear your PDP kit is working great for you. Enjoy! The Super Solid had proved itself to tricky of a process on any other type of drum beyond a snare. A bass drum would be at a very high pitch with this type of shell. Thanks again!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Salzcamino that's a good question! It is there more for sound, than structural reinforcement. Adding weight to the top and bottom of the shell via reinforcement hoop both increases the tension and resonant pitch of the shell, as well as delivers a more focused sound.

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for asking! The main sound difference between Oak and Maple is the brightness or darkness. Oak has a darker tone in comparison to Maple's bright high attack. Oak will still have the attack that Maple does though. The Super Solid on it's own comes in Maple only. For the Super Solid Edge snare we offer any combination of Maple, Walnut, Cherry or Red Oak.

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the Super Solid they will come with a Maple shell only. We have our Super Solid Edge snares that you can combo any of these woods - Maple, Walnut, Cherry and Red Oak. Of course you can finish these shells with any of our available Exotic woods.

  • @hambo24

    Such a welcome change watching videos from you guys!
    When talking about their drums; almost all other drum manufacturers just put down other companies: "We do this because we care more about the sound than any other manufacturer" or "no other drum company has the passion and knowledge that we do". So refreshing to hear John Good actually compliment other drum shells whilst respectfully stating what DW does differently and why without pointing out every single flaw in the competition. Awesome!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    We appreciate your feedback. We hope there will be a more cohesive way for you guys to get DW out there. We will do our best to insure that for the future.

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Salzcamino thanks for the question (you always have good ones)! As you see in the video, this is a CNC process that requires custom tooling and programming for different sizes. We currently offer 3 different thicknesses, but yes, only 1 shell dimension (14x5.5). We are experimenting with different sizes all the time, and it is likely that we will introduce some new ones in the near future. It is not a stress issue. We came out with just the one size as an introduction. more to come!

    @giulienk thanks for your interest. I'll see what I can do about sampling a 15 for ya. Any particular depth you'd like to hear?

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @HoldenMcG as you see in the video, making these snares requires some very specific machinery. We have been experimenting with other depths, but to start we went for the most popular depths (based on what most people order from us). I am sure we will make some deeper ones in the future. I agree, a 6.5" would be nice ;)

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    We have in the past for some hard working Fire Fighters for a 9/11 concert but that would be one of the only times. We figure there are some great marching drums out there that we can stay with what we have been doing.

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @ZinayH well then you'll be happy to know that DW snares range from $764 (FinishPly Collector's Series ) to $1699 (Exotic Edge) LIST, which means the retail or "street" price will be SIGNIFICANTLY less.
    Super Solid's LIST for $1299 to 1699. Remember , the actual price will be much less.
    Contact your local dealer for exact pricing:
    drum.know-where(dot)com/drum/
    Happy shopping! We hope your wish comes true ;) thanks for the interest.

    I really enjoyed this video. Those are pricey but you can see the work and expense that goes into making them. I have a DW Collectors Solid from 2004 (the old process w/ glued in re-rings) and it's a killer snare.

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome thanks! What finish did you go for??

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @asel2000 No unfortunately not. If you see the explanation I gave above for the SSC question it definitely applies. The Super Solids being one piece of wood make them to hard to work with to alter the natural grain pattern they already have. Sorry!

    One thing that is often overlooked are the people and companies like HAAS who develop, create, and build these CNC machines, as well as the engineers who maintain them. The absolute precision and consistency of these machines is remarkable technology, as is all the technology and machinery used to build these beautiful drums. We often take these machines for granted, but wow, very cool.

    @HoldenMcG after asking the best sources, I found out that it's actually not limited by the CNC machine, but rather the machine that compresses the wood and creates the blank (not shown in video). There is only one of those machines in the entire USA, and it can only do a maximum of 5.5 inches depth. So it is not likely that you will see a 6.5" Super Solid any time soon...BUT
    this is a big reason why we made the Super Solid Edge.

    @DrumWorkshopInc I just spoke with Mr. Good himself to confirm my answer, and while I was correct, he assured me the integrated reinforcement hoop does provide extra strength as well as give extra attack (initial "crack") and enhanced tone. The tension on the top and bottom send more energy into the middle of the drum (where all the tone is). There you have it!
