This short insight into dwdrums was extremely well put together, just like the drums appear to be. I'm sure all your employees are proud to be working at a company that achieves such excellent standards.
I'm pretty sure Jose deserves a raise for getting those plies lined up so perfectly. Dude makes it look effortless, it'd take me an hour to do what he did in a minute. Lol
David Curtis I was thinking the exact same thing. I noticed how he knew each one by name and seemed real about it. It’s easy to spot a fake and this guys looked legit.
Incredible! I love the excitement John has about his drums and wood. Edit: I died laughing when I saw the knocker on that spray booth lol.. using a bass pedal
You see that guy over there, he has this quirk where he flinches when you call him 'champ' after calling everyone else by their name. We do it all the time because he pretends not to care, but we know it bothers him a LOT. It's hilarious! @@treatb09
Luckily, I'm an independent consultant and I definitely don't like working under a boss. But for sure, I wouldn't mind working for John Good. The respect he shows to each collaborator and the knowledge of the processes performed by each one of them, shows that he's an awesome leader. DW team, you rock!!!
John Good is a genius, so much respect for him, love the way we treats his employees. Such a cool factory tour, so glad I bought my collectors series. You guys are true masters!🤘🏼
This was the video that convinced me to take the DW leap! I ended up with pure maple but I'm not looking back! The whole process of tambre matching makes all the difference!
I don't think that was his kit, I think those were the 40th Anniversary Neil Peart Snare Drums!! the kit would be all different sizes. th-cam.com/video/MgaSQR7zbxQ/w-d-xo.html
I love watching how things are made and I have to say I'm am seriously impressed with how much attention to detail is put into the making of these drums. I hope I can afford one one day lol
Bought one of the first available oak drums, an 8x14, from Dale's. It's a beast. Mr. Good was nice enough to sign the shell when he was in the shop. Love his passion and dedication.
My name is Luiz Carvalho, Carvalho is OAK in portuguese...we feel every love in any pieces to me DW is still a distant dream but just see it make me happy, the way you bring magicfor all your love is wonderfull... carry on!!! from a fan of Brasil!!!
I am in love with the manufacturing process of these drums, DW really seems to be one of the few real innovators when it comes to drum shells. Making machines specifically for some of the drum building processes.
Sir, when I see your energy and personality,, when I see how you try for the best and what you give to this world,, I'm hard working father of young family but I hope as one of thousands drumming lovers that one day I will plant a three by you too. Stay yours 🖤🤟
In Christmas of 2015, I got DW Performance Series Stainless Steel Snare, 14x8!!!! That is now my main snare!!!!! And BOY is it HEAVY!!!! But it's important. I love it!!!
John Good is a pure genius. To think of these ways to make DW drums and all the custom tools to build the drums. He is truly one of the best drum builders in the country. John may not work the machines much, but it takes the mind to think of and create these machines, and he has vast knowledge of the whole process.
Very excited for these oak drums, I've played other oak drums for years and love the full bodied tone from them but now I can get them with the passion and craftsmanship from DW!
John setting here with a good friend of yours AJ. In Tampa FL. Aj sold me my firsts DW kit in the 80s then the 90s then three more kits. I love them all I'll never sell them. they all have a little story to tell. AJ and I have a drum studio where we keep all are drum's of 40 years or so DW has aways been the best to me.
Wow, there is a lot of technology and also human craftsmanship that goes into these drums. I’m impressed, not only with the drums but John Good and the company. One day, a set of DW Collector’s will be mine. Oh yes, it WILL BE MINE.
John good is brilliant and a great guy!! An he treats all drummers the same regardless of level,an he constantly innovates no one does that!! Love ya John!! Would love to do another factory tour!! All the best Ed dilley jr.
My dad got me a DW Design Series kit in Midnight Blue Satin for Christmas. I love it!!!! That was my dream kit forever, and now it’s finally mine!!! I also have a massive Performance Series Stainless Steel 14x8 snare drum. And for jewelry, I have Zildjian A Custom cymbals with the exception of an 18in Platinum Rock Crash and a 9in K Custom Hybrid splash cymbal, cute little guy with an explosive sound!!! And my sticks? None other than the Vic Firth 5A and 5AN!!!!!! Hardware includes a Tama Iron Cobra, DW tom stand, Yamaha snare stand, DW hi-hat stand, Pearl ride stand, and PDP cymbal stands, and a Pork Pie throne!!!!
That guy Jose, putting those shells together, man, he has to have such an eye and hands for that. I wonder how hard it is to get the skill to put it together so it fits in.
John, Your process of creating a drum, is amazing and extremely educational. What a treat to walk thru your factory with you and realize how difficult it is to make the perfect drum. That's why D.W. stands out above all its competition. I love all your finishes but I gig so often, that I'll get a scratch on it, eventually, and that breaks my heart. Do the pearl finishes change the tone of the drums, very much. I talked to you a few months back about cutting a hole in the front B.D. head, which I haven't done, and you were very informative. If you have the time, I would love to receive a response. God bless, Danny Goodchild
Hi Danny, On a scientific level all things affect the tone of drums, that being said many drummers have kits with FinishPly/Wraps and they sound fantastic. We say get what you love and play them!
DW is great because they're pioneers and do what the consumers want. When they see a better way to something, they seem to change at the drop of a hat. I hope to get a DW 5 pc this summer!
This is fantastic! He treats his crew with such respect!! I just ordered my first DW snare drum - a Collectors brass plated in nickel. After watching this - I am DW for life!!
These 20 to 30-minute segments that give us a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the manufacturing process really helps to explain and even justify the astronomical price of DW's flagship line. Regardless of whether or not you like DW and the DW sound, from what I've seen and researched, there's just no arguing that from start to finish, the level of care, thought, time, effort, quality, and attention to detail that goes into making each drum and ultimately each total kit is simply unmatched. DW also leads the drum industry in innovation and their hardware is the industry standard.
Great video with REAL people doing fantastic jobs around the factory, they all look like they enjoy working there. The kits look amazing and sound fantastic. Thanks for the tour John Good loved watching.
I absolutely love the whole ethos of this company, their passion for the products they produce and the innovative ideas on what their customers may like. I was looking to buy an acoustic kit at some point, and I've decided to hold off and save up a bit longer to invest in a DW kit.
I got a DW Performance Series 14x8 Stainless Steel snare drum for Christmas. That things a monster!!!!!!!! My main kit is a Pearl Forum kit in wine red finish, but it's great!!! DW and Pearl, what a combination!!!! Can't miss!
90% MexiCANs working at DW!!! That just fills me with pride!!!! Eso mi raza!!!! Muchas gracias a esta compania por emplear MexiCANos que se llenan de orgullo en lo que hacen... Thank you so much DW!
W😯W!!! I wish you guys had your own weekly tv show. I love watching these factory videos and seeing all the new creations. Other than wishing I was a pro drummer this would be my dream job. Creating a drum set for someone to love. It seems awesome to see that the passion is still there. I have owned hi end mapex hi end sonor and now a DW collectors kit and they by far have ruled my world. If you have played em you know what I mean. Every time I play some of my other kits I'm like man ya these are sweet damn they sound good and I fall in love again with them until I get back behind my DWs and just think oh yaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh. This is the one drum set in my 26 years of playing that I haven't fallen out of love with. Thanks guys...the oak sounds bad ass
I love the culture, enthusiasm and respect for the colleagues, technology, and the drums/wood. I would really like to work in an environment like this.
Sheila E. She use to play with Prince back in the day...she's an excellent drummer. I'm 57 and began drumming when I was around 8. Then I took serious lessons when I was around 10 for 12 years. Glad I who recognized my ability per se and supported me. I started on Ludwig kit...but then my Dad picked it out for my first real set as a gift. I then moved on to Pearl. Over the years I tried dw and loved them...been playing on dw kits for 30 years. Whenever I get a new dw kit...I feel like I won the lottery and cant wait to set them up and just play. The irony is I'm not a professional musician...though many people say I could play pro. My other passion was science and I went on to become a surgeon. However, I'm a surgeon at Vanderbilt University....which is in Nashville, TN. I've filled in for a few bands on Bourbon St. and when I play. I feel like a kid again with no worries, Just banging away on my kit, loving every minute, Thank You dw, for making such a great instrument.
I agree, they make some fine drums and it's good to see so much 'hands-on' going on. I'd be interested to see how different the manufacturing process is for the Taiwan-made Designer Series.
I love watching stuff like this as a drummer. Even though I will not be able to afford a set from them. I want a maple/mahogany set if I was to choose and had the money.

What a fantastic process. I've always wondered how drums are made. Next time I see a DW drums kit, I'll have a better understanding and appreciation of the work, skills and time that has been put into each drum.
Beatifull drums, and e very impressife factory, but really what impressed me is how do you cop with your workers and by they names. That is team work! Respect for that👍👍
I love to see all amazing Latino craftsmen you have making these amazing instruments.. My next set of drums are gonna be DW... Big props to you guys!! Tremendo!
Amazing, I am glad I watched this, I do not play anymore but wanted always to have a DW set, I own a Renown Model from Gretsch all Maplewood and sounds great but I was never at ease with the fact it has a label as made in china; I bought it back in 2010 and only used it live couple times after that as I am on my way out from actively playing, then I saw a DW "JOHN GOOD" COLLECTORS SERIES 6 piece EXOTIC REDWOOD FADE Drum Kit FADE at local guitar center and started to look into these; that is how I got here watching this wonderful video of the whole process and I am really impressed. The kit I am looking at is used and has couple blemishes but I am trying to find a way to buy it; I know I will not play it live probably ever but that will fill that "hole" as far as wanting to own one of these brand..they are expensive but this video clearly states why all over! Now if I ending up getting it, depending if it has the sizes I like 10, 12, 14, 16 and 22, snare 6.5 x 14, then I would like to add an 8" tom to it then my dream would be completed; I would have preferred it in a combination of blue but I felt drawn to the red wood without much issues! I just need to keep justifying the 4K it cost, even used by the notion that there is no way I can afford to have me one custom built when I do not play for a living anymore. great job there DW!
So awesome to see such a high-quality product made in the USA! 18:45 Those quilted maple, turquoise-fade-to-clearcoat wood finish drums look incredible! Would love to see a 59 Les Paul fade too, or a Strat Tri-burst fade. Applying wood veneers, raising the grain and applying finish is a complex process, but I WISH this video had shown some. Please create a video for this alone. Thank you!
I hope to own a DW collector's series set one day. I've been playing on the same PDP maple set for the past 10 years and have put it through the ringer...but it still sounds great :)
I like the Point A to B explanation. I read that DW is looking at bringing back Slingerland, a brand that Peart used from 1977 until around 1997- the same exact snare through those decades.
I ordered one back in july 18 2021 . Through my fave drum shop here in Toronto Canada . 8x14 oak Dw collectors snare in Hard satin finish . It’s October 5 and still haven’t received it . Can’t wait to get her here 🙏🏻🤘

This is just the coolest thing.. Beautiful drums.
Good stuff! Makes me want to go out and buy a set right now! Beautiful explanation and tour!
We might have something for you, lol 😉
I hope to own a DW collector's series set one day. I've been playing on the same PDP maple set for the past 10 years and have put it through the ringer...but it still sounds great :)
I like the Point A to B explanation. I read that DW is looking at bringing back Slingerland, a brand that Peart used from 1977 until around 1997- the same exact snare through those decades.
I ordered one back in july 18 2021 . Through my fave drum shop here in Toronto Canada . 8x14 oak Dw collectors snare in Hard satin finish . It’s October 5 and still haven’t received it . Can’t wait to get her here 🙏🏻🤘
Thanks for your patience.
I'm huge enthusiast of Tama Drums, but after saw this video... I will be thinking seriously in DW drums, before I buy my next kit!!
Very cool video! I love DW drums!
