whether you're a drummer or not, you've got to enjoy these DW videos. The science behind the and the craftsmanship of making these instruments is fascinating.
i love this drum so much. i'm also really impressed with how much john good knows about every part of the process. great to know the company is run by a man who has such passion for drums
John Good! And he is a genius and we love him! The idea of re-using artists old cymbals was a great idea as apposed too anything else. Sabian being one of our favorite companies to work with, had the right idea!
Reps at DW, PLEASE bring this drum back! The size is perfect, you could possibly use regular hardwood birch, but the thing that gets it for me are the SABIAN edge rings! Just...ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!
I love how all your videos are over 10 minutes. It's so nice to go in depth with John Good and really get down to the facts of what makes this drum so great.
Being from Houlton in northern Maine(couple of hours from Moosehead Lake and about 30 minutes away from Sabian) this snare puts a HUGE smile on my face.
Wow thanks so much! We enjoy what we do and we can only help it shows. We do our best to get to every customers inquires, questions, complaints or everything in between! Thanks again!
Not neccesarily a DW man myself, I but I sure respect the hell out of you guys for the time and effort you put into this work. Kudos to Bruce Campbell, uh, I mean John Good ha.
There have been discussions but most end in the fact that there are some really good case companies out there that can do the job for you. Very unique snare you have there!
Took the plunge and bought the one they had at Dales. I have every intention of playing mine @ select gigs. Can't wait until the UPS truck shows up tomorrow.
everyone needs to do their job, thnx to DW for inovations ...price its reasonable,"how long its your blanket, u will cover your feet that much"...expensive things are for those who deserve them...need to to grow up....
I'm not a DW player, and sincerely doubt I ever will be (my father played Ludwig, I learned on a Ludwig, my first set was a Ludwig, my current sets are Ludwig, etc etc lol), but John Goode is just so cool. I love how enthusiastic he gets about all his products.
I know it's been 10 mos but thank you from a DW player of more than twenty years. Lot's of hate for the DW brand these days. Ludwig is my runner up, but i really like every brands top tier. Play what you love and enjoy.
I like the DW stuff. I just don't want to either move it or pay for it... they DO have some incredible sounding snares, tho, also (don't even ask how much). I had the Vistalite. Their high end stuff makes my beloved 402 sound like a trash can. not that trash cans are bad. One of my favorite snares is the tiny one on the Sonor Martini kit. Doesn't even need a moongel. And the most you bash it, the better it sounds.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Ha, I have to agree with you. Just played a gig and the house drumset was a Sonor Martini kit. While the bass drum is akin to using a rack tom, that little snare is pretty sweet. Overall there's some music in that child size set.
I used to have a stainless steel covered set of Ludwigs which I recorded with, had a 24" bass drum. But I got rid of them because I thought they were too heavy to lug around to gigs. I sold them to a friend for 450 dollars, which was more than I paid for them but I wish I'd kept them. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
$8000 for a bell brass?!?! Whoah! :) We don't have enough cymbals for a whole kit made of bronze. We can get you a snare made of bronze though! We will stick with wood shells but thanks for the suggestion!
hey Tre!!! We are only making a limited run of these snares in just a 6x14 size. Sorry if this size doesn't work for you. We can make Edge snares in the size you like. Just not this one.
You mean like a Solid shell?? The Lake Birch we found was milled into a ply form for this snare. This was the best way to make use of the wood. Hope this helps!
I find myself in awe of the craftsmanship of everything you guys do. It really is amazing the amount of work you guys put into a single drum. I'm not sure any other mainstream drum company can compare with that. PLUS, which other drum company responds to just about every video comment on their TH-cam? ;)
about $1200, but totally worth it. This is a collector's item, and the process and quality control are immaculate. Why won't Bozzio play the toms? he's got like 30 toms lol.
We would love for you to try it but this snare is most cases will be a special order or in limited stock for our dealers. You might have to call around your local dealer base to see if they're receiving one!
Hey guys, I am finding myself extremely happy with the DW Copper 5.5 x 14 snare drum. Given those sound characteristics, could you put me in the right direction for the wood choice for the rest of a kit? Thanks
It should be made more clear...the cymbals that were melted to make these drums were broken Sabian artist cymbals. in other words, NO HEALTHY CYMBALS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS SNARE DRUM ;)
+Derpmuffins The Great You can make your own drum kit from maple shells EQUALLY as good as a DW in quality by getting them at Precision Drum Co out of New York. Unlike DW Collectors series, you can decide your shell thickness for each shell, shell size for each shell (up to 28" diameter x 24" deep!) and lug style you like for way less than DW. Precision uses Keller shells and have the best bearing edges in the business. Often times people have actually sent their DW shells in to re-cut the bearing edges at Precision. I don't work or in any way have business dealings with Precision but I hear that they are the best to work with and stand behind the product and get your orders to you really fast. DW is over priced.
@105934124682693220761 I personally think that Gretsch Drums are the best on the market. They just have that amazingly distinct sound that no company has been able to reproduce. The quality they put in their kits is honestly one of a kind. But, as far as custom drum companies go, I am tied between C&C or Guru Drums.
geometricpatterns6 I've never been about Pearl. I respect their success, but it's just not the sound I'm looking for. Gretsch, Tama, and Ludwig have to be my three favourites.
The Gretsch Brooklyn series is really nice sounding. Tama's star bubingas in jazz sizes sound amazing and Ludwig's Legacy in Bonzo sizes are huge on a stage, Yeah I love those brands too.
hey guys.. i have a mid 90's 13x5 green sparkle snare.. love the drum but the snare tension clamp has totally disintegrated and i am having trouble finding replacement parts in the UK.. do you have any suggestions of who to try?? big love on ya loverly drums.x
I really appreciate the experimentation and many innovations in shell design and hardware that DW have accomplished. Companies that focus on quality over bottom line are very rare in business of any kind these days. DW equipment is very expensive and not for everyone but it is nice to have the choice of a quality product even if it comes at a high price. That being said, this snare drum although adventurous in design, does not hold a candle to ANY (old or new) brass shell Ludwig Supraphonic snare drum.
I have a problem with lug 14x5 snare drum dw edge. When I tune the high pitch, his lug broke! Can you help me, because the lug dw is not available in my country .... I really hope. God Bless
This Snare would be Sooo awesome in combo with an Eco-X Banana drumkit with Black-Chrome hardware ... that would be my dreamkit!! Pro Nature, Great Sound, but also pleasing for the eyes! for now my Xbox Rockband drumkit will have to do the job =D
Beautiful as usual...just a question, if its a Vault edge snare, would nt you only use Vault series of cymbals? I did notice HHX etc or does nt it make a difference?...still awesome.
What would happen if you made very small dowels (kind of like the dowels in Pro Mark Hot Rods or Vic Firth Rutes) of brass or metal and ran them vertically from the top bearing edge the the snare side edge about an 1"- 1" 1/4 apart? Just an idea.... -G
Whoever has the job of tuning the drums at DW has the best job.
Glad you think so! Thanks!
This right here, people, is why DW are the unequivocal leaders in drum manufacturing artistry.
What an exquisite instrument.
whether you're a drummer or not, you've got to enjoy these DW videos. The science behind the and the craftsmanship of making these instruments is fascinating.
It's fascinating so many people believe dw is innovating anything except marketing hype.
I always love how much John is involved with the drum making process. Probably one of the most passionate guys I've ever met about drum production.
i love this drum so much. i'm also really impressed with how much john good knows about every part of the process. great to know the company is run by a man who has such passion for drums

Glad you are liking the Vault Edge snare!
That's a no brainer! Thanks for being a part of the DW family!
ProgGuy we are happy to have your feedback and have you watching the whole video all the way through! Thanks again!
Being from Houlton in northern Maine(couple of hours from Moosehead Lake and about 30 minutes away from Sabian) this snare puts a HUGE smile on my face.
Ok! We appreciate your level of commitment to the Vault Edge!
Awesome! Thanks for your feedback! Thanks for choosing the Vault Edge! Enjoy!
Glad you are liking your 8x14 Performance Steel snare!
Thanks! The Edge snares always project and this Vault Edge is no exception!
Alright! Thanks for choosing the Vault Edge!!
Wow thanks so much! We enjoy what we do and we can only help it shows. We do our best to get to every customers inquires, questions, complaints or everything in between! Thanks again!
The deffinition of a collector's item. Beautiful
Perfect combo for you! Thanks for choosing DW!!

Birch Rules! My favorite wood in the world of Drums.
OMG!! The sound of the rings!! Love this drum through and through! 💖
Yeah. Now put hardware of it. No more ring
Glad you are liking it!
We appreciate your enthusiasm!
This is what I love about the DW videos, educational!!! I would love to work at that company.
never stop doing it! you guys are awesome!
haha ok Bernardo! thanks for taking taking time out to watch our channel!
Used cymbals being used again! Thanks!
You already had the tubes to make Sabian bell brass shells... I'd buy the hell out of one of those.
Love the sound of the snare. It really pops
Thing of beauty! The demo on Memphis drum shop sounds stunning!!
Yeah terry makes it sound like tinny poop (or the recording does)
Nice! We'll put the order in right now! Sorry for the delay! :)
There have been discussions but most end in the fact that there are some really good case companies out there that can do the job for you. Very unique snare you have there!
Send it to this guy! Haha! We appreciate your enthusiasm very much!
I have a top edge snare on order, should be ready very soon. It's like a kid in a candy store and I'm looking forward to playing the snare.
Wow the sound is so unique and amazing
Took the plunge and bought the one they had at Dales. I have every intention of playing mine @ select gigs. Can't wait until the UPS truck shows up tomorrow.
Thanks!
glad you are!

Although he is a busy guy we are sure he would enjoy that!
Ryan...Two American made drums. Ludwig and DW! Love both!
I know it's been 10 mos but thank you from a DW player of more than twenty years. Lot's of hate for the DW brand these days. Ludwig is my runner up, but i really like every brands top tier. Play what you love and enjoy.

Not a bad idea! Zildjian has great stuff!
Thanks for that!
Respectfully noted. :) Thanks for appreciating the idea though! We are always trying to push forward!
Great to hear!! Well as you know we have plenty of shell options. What type of music are you playing mostly??
We'll see!
Aw thanks!

AWESOME! Congrats! Indeed, that drum should not just be treated as a pretty face. Glad to hear you're going to play it for the people :)

hey Tre!!! We are only making a limited run of these snares in just a 6x14 size. Sorry if this size doesn't work for you. We can make Edge snares in the size you like. Just not this one.
I never knew someone could explain the making of a Drum that way.
Sorry to hear that! Maybe we are talking about the the nut that receives the tension rod? What country are you in??
You mean like a Solid shell?? The Lake Birch we found was milled into a ply form for this snare. This was the best way to make use of the wood. Hope this helps!
Marketing department in overdrive.
Overhype

Just my wallet hook me up with a set bro lol
We are here for you! Haha!
DW is a great company. Too bad it costs a first born child and soul to get a Collector Series kit.

Guru only makes about 25 kits a year. Gretsch USA is nice though expensive. Pearl Masterworks are much better.

would dw and sabian continue their relationship to make more vault snares. I would LOVE a 14x8 vault snare. ooooooo that would be so cool
beautiful
Really love this snare! I think it would fit in nicely with my DW/Sabian Artisan Collection. :)
Seeing those cymbals being melted almost made me want to cry.
nooo, i want it but i'm too poor :D
love you DW and Sabian!
very great job, you must select the drummer who buy this snare!!!

I will go to Moridaira.
Will this snare be available on the Gil Sharone tour?!? I can't wait to play this snare with my own sticks!!!
