Bought my edge a few years ago, 5.5x14 ebony satin oil with chrome hardware, and it still makes me smile every time I pull it out. Thanks DW! Your attention to detail doesn't go unnoticed, and I'm reminded with each and every hit. You've gained a life time customer.
@gmorton731 Thanks so much for your kind words and feedback. We do everything we can to keep our customers involved in our ever evolving company. You post stoked our fire to keep us going. Thanks again!
We will mainly focus on upgrading our drums and hardware and have a smaller focus on upgrading our printers on time. :) We very much look forward to making you a kit. We so appreciate your support!
I just think it's awesome that DW is still commenting and replying to people on a video that's over 2 years old. Awesome to see that kind of dedication to their fans.
As a Yamaha guy im very impressed with Johns mission, drive and transparency. Dw definitely has earned its place among the greatest instruments made. Enjoy your blessings Dw.
We hear your suggestion and appreciate it for sure. It is actually John Good who does not like working with acrylic shells. Although we believe you are right by saying that he could work some magic but he prefers wood working.
Thanks so much! We are loading up on edits right now and about to shut down for the holidays. We do promise to keep everyone in the loop about any new videos and of course anything on the Concrete snares.
We hear you for sure. We'll have a better presence down there a.s.a.p. Thanks so much for your interest in DW. If you figure out what size and finish type of snare you need you can always special order it at the Guitar Center. ;)
@sunnylee84 Cool recording story feedback action. The Edge snare don't a have problem cutting through a mix that's for sure. Great to hear you had a good experience with the Edge. Thanks for watching!
I just got my 13x6 blue glass Edge from Chuck Levins Washington Music Center. You guys at California really know what your doing. The craftmanship is amazing it looks better in real life then in pitures I am just mind blown at you guys. Thanks
Glad you are liking the Edge snare! By our records indicate with the order number you provided, the Edge snare is actually a 6x14 and it should be in a Black Ice finish ply finish. Not too worry about the note being stamped on the inside of the shell...we have never stamped the inside of Edge snares with the note. We add the brass rings in the final assembly process so the note would change anyways. Hope this helps!
Ah Brandon. He worked here for a while and gave many of our factory tours. As long as you have the badge in tact and the name of the store you got it from we should be able to track your Edge in our system. Have a good one!
Nice size and finish choice on your Edge snare! Thanks so much! We love the guys at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center. We are very happy to hear you had a good experience with them and we wish you many fun times on your Edge snare.
Thanks so much for your feedback! The Edge does project quite a bit. A "louder" snare if you will. We are happy you have found a use for both of your snare drums. :)
I have a DW edge 14x 6, in Black Ice, perfect snare for any application, and I love how if you do use Moon Gels, if gives you the tighter dampened sound! DW's are fantastic!
Thanks for asking! The Edge snare will project more then any of our other snare drums. We have heard of customers using the Edge snare for Jazz style application though. A thicker head will help with unwanted overtones.
@JeanDenisCote VLX Plus is our lowest noted shell type we offer. It is advised to use on bass drums only to add to the SSC technology. We have the outer most ply running horizontal to insure this low toned shell type. Hope that helps!
@juanbaratto thank you very much for this! It means a lot to us to hear how satisfied our customers are with our instruments. That's a great snare you have with a beautiful finish. I'm personally saving up for an edge. It really does have a uniquely perfect sound. And, it doubles as a free weight. So you can save money by cancelling your gym membership ;) Cheers!
@hendrixfan57 Thanks so much for your kind words and insight. JG has been doing this for a while with great passion and we are super lucky to have him! Yeah the 3 Speed Butt Plate does sound good in every position. The design is to get the tight, just right, and "throw off" sounds that every drummer can use. Some drummers have to switch back and forth during a song so we thought we would make it easier for those types of situations. Thanks again for your comments and questions!
@DrumWorkshopInc I've been on damn near every drum manufacturer's channel that has an account on TH-cam--I have 2 say that u guys r AWESOME--1 of the VERY few companies that actually responds 2 the public & cares what we have 2 say--that speaks volumes --it just goes 2 show that u really care & r not just about making $--no wonder u guys r in such high regard
Great question! We have had zero issues with the Mag's strength on it's own for really tight settings. The Performance Series comes with just the Mag Throw without the 3P Butte plate and we have had many people use high tuning and tight snare wires with no problems. You are good to go!!
@josiahsuthan Well those are tough questions for sure. The Super Solid itself is a high pitched snare with a lot of crack. Combining the woods will give the snare some woods that are already dense but some more dense than others. Red Oak is more dense than cherry. The denser the wood the higher the pitch of the shell. Hope this helps!
@Quezo7129 great to hear! Drums are tough instruments to tune, but slow and even tension is EVERYTHING. After it's fairly tight, you can rest your finger in the center of the head, and then lightly tap on the head next to each rod (right next to the rim) and "fine-tune" them to be as close as possible to each other. You'll find that if one rod sounds out of tune, the one directly across the drum will likely also be (so you kinda have to tune them in pairs).
@Quezo7129 here at the workshop, we do like overtones. The only way to really loose that, is to put some kind of damping on the head (moongel, tape, etc). If the overtones don't sound pretty like they are supposed to, you likely have uneven tension on your heads. If you haven't, try loosening them all the way, and then finger tighten the rods in the sequence John has on our Snare Batter Heads. Once finger tight, use the same sequence giving 2 turns at a time to each rod. Tuning vid coming soon
@Ashhunn I would suggest you loosen them all, and then tighten them up in the method I posted below. It may not save your problem, but this is usually due to uneven tension. Snare drums do vibrate more than any other drum on your kit, and vibration does tend to loosen screws. You might try our new True Hoops if the problem persists. How often does "all the time" mean?
@ChrisBreuerrr Ok we got ya. :) The best call would be to go with the standard Edge maple but with a deeper shell. A 7x14 will do the trick for what you are looking for. This size will be dull bodied, able to tune medium to high and will have a shorter decay or sustain because of the shell being deep. The deeper the shell the shorter the sustain because the sound waves have to travel further. Hope this make sense to you!
It is possible technically. We felt it was the best call to make the Super Solid technology to snare drums only. We like using different ply configurations for toms and bass drums.
@MeccavonPetra2 Thanks so much for your feedback! This is the sole reason we upload these videos so we can educate our customers and also get feedback of all types to further our gear. :)
@TheMakyoura good question. I think you caught a flaw. The Edge and Top Edge should not be options in Step 4. Like you guessed, Step 4 (customize) is where you should choose the shell type (SSC, etc) in the middle of your Edge or Top Edge snare. I've alerted the proper personnel and it should be fixed shortly. True Hoops, MAG Throw & 3P Butt Plate come standard on all Collector's, Jazz, and Classics Series snare drums. You can order floor toms from any authorized DW Dealer (locator on r website)
@KaeviNzXD if you ordered it new, then yes. Congrats on the order! What size & finish did you get. What made you choose the Top Edge? I hope we get to see you play it ;)
These really are sooooo great for playing live. Especially in a venue where the drums are un-mic'd...the projection is outstanding. I have a 13x6 Edge and it's a wonderful instrument. However I like my 13x6 Collectors Maple snare better for studio because they are warmer and easier for me to get a nice fat sound out of for recording.
@ChrisBreuerrr Unfortunately you will not find any info on the snare you are inquiring about but we still do offer the Edge with a Solid center. What type of sound are you looking for exactly?
The concept I gave Chris Lombardi at the first ‘Skips Music Expo’ in Sacramento...I had gotten the original idea from a banjo player I worked with, who knew I was into drum innovations. In explaining it I told him “It would have the crack of a brass/steel snare with the warmth of a wood snare...”
@joebruiser77 We have used our standard DW lugs in 2 rows for deep snares but obviosly our lugs are too big to go double row. We have found the single lug has gone better with functionality with our snare drums. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions for sure though. Thanks so much for watching!!
@TheJoSilberstein A Maple shell will bring you the most sustain for an Edge center. VLT will bring the sustain level down some because of the lower note. Have a good one!
@killjoyshidae1208 Technical questions. 1.Very basically we found that brass was the best sounding material for the Edge snare. 2.Chances are the Edge you saw was not actually a 6.5 depth but you never know. The wood portion of the Edge snares are cut from a barrel so we generally only have enough to cut for flat depths. Also the added 1/2" to the wood center wouldn't affect the sound enough. Hope this works for you!
Good to hear! I was just imagining the paper jams lol! If you get a chance tell him I'm looking into getting a new kit and definitely an edge snare. You all make a great product so I don't mind spending a few bucks to help keep that going. Keep up the great work and the future upgrades lol!
@joebruiser77 We love the love for sure. :) We are not here to bad mouth other companies and we believe that other companies make good gear. We are only here to show our customers the inside of our operation through these videos.
We would love to make you a 7x13 Edge snare! It does increase tension on the bottom head but not so much that you would have to tune accordingly per setting. Thanks for watching!
@Ashhunn hard to recommend a head other than the ones that come on it. But there are many out there to choose from, and I recommend you experiment. Let us know how it goes! Perhaps other users here can make some head suggestions?
Funny thing is, the Edge snare with only the top having metal reminds me a lot of marching snares of now a days, with the high tension top head on a metal edge and then the free floating bottom shell that has the resonant head directly on the wood.
Thanks for having interest in the Walnut Maple Super Solid!! Unfortunately a dealer will most likely not have this snare in stock. The good news is that your local DW drums dealer can special order it for you. Any DW drums dealer can special order this snare for your. Please refer the link below for the closest DW drums dealer below. Your dealer can assist you with pricing and ordering info. drum(dot)know-where(dot)com/drum/
Sure! The Edge snare will really project naturally so you do not need to tune higher for that particular reason. Tune the Edge up! It will appreciate that. :) It also likes a mid range tuning.
We do not sell DW drums on line direct unfortunately. Best call is too contact your local authorized DW drums dealer to check to see if they do have an Edge snare in stock or check into special ordering one. Your dealer can also assist you with any pricing questions also. Thanks for choosing DW!! drum(dot)know-where(dot)com/drum/
Nice you got the full tour! Louie is the man and so is John obviously. :) With the date and number on the inside of your Edge not being there it could have been wiped off by accident during its last cleaning before it left. Did you get all the drums with the Edge together? If so all the drums are on one order.
We actually cross laminate our plies so most shells are being put together with 3 sets of plies. As far as adding one extra ply to your kit are you going for a higher end tone??
The Edge snares are truly great instruments! When can we expect a video on the new DW Collector's Concrete snares? I see that they're already for sale out there.
I just worked backline on Beyonce's Formation tour... Joy the drummer had two of these badass snares. This snare is no punk, the weight scared me when the tech handed them to me. I was like damn I know what I'm getting with my Beyonce' check! Lol!
@DrumWorkshopInc Will do! Should hopefully have a full DW kit by next year! got the snare and some 9002s and all I can say is I'm never going back! DW all the way!
Awesome! Enjoy! Thanks for being a part of the DW family!

@JWGDrums Best customers in the world! Thanks!
We are flattered you would choose us! Sounds like you are taken care of. Thanks so much for choosing DW!!
There are plenty of companies making great marching drums we feel. We do appreciate your enthusiasm towards any type of fund raiser for your school!
@FurlanPaolo You're so right! We are super stoked to have him. He is an encyclopedia of wood tone facts.
We will mainly focus on upgrading our drums and hardware and have a smaller focus on upgrading our printers on time. :)
We very much look forward to making you a kit. We so appreciate your support!
Also John Good is the man. A successful business genius who truly appreciates drums as much as anyone else. These videos are great.
Thanks! We are so lucky have John with his innovative drum ideas and also being a big star in front of the camera. :)
We hear your suggestion and appreciate it for sure. It is actually John Good who does not like working with acrylic shells. Although we believe you are right by saying that he could work some magic but he prefers wood working.
Glad you are liking them!
He is! He will be happy to hear your kind words!

We hear you for sure. We'll have a better presence down there a.s.a.p. Thanks so much for your interest in DW. If you figure out what size and finish type of snare you need you can always special order it at the Guitar Center. ;)
Glad you are liking it!
That is a tough one. We think there are people more qualified for that but we appreciate your confidence in us. :)
Yes you can! We offer a solid center with Edge rings in 5x13, 5x14, 6x13, 6x14, 7x13 and 7x14 in all finish options.
I'm a bassist turned drummer and I own a few snares and recently bought an Edge, now I'm hooked! It's a beautiful sound coming out of it! Love it!!!!!
@sunnylee84 Cool recording story feedback action. The Edge snare don't a have problem cutting through a mix that's for sure. Great to hear you had a good experience with the Edge. Thanks for watching!
We have assembled acrylic shells for artists in the past but we like making drums from wood. Thanks for your suggestion though. :)

Nice size and finish choice on your Edge snare! Thanks so much! We love the guys at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center. We are very happy to hear you had a good experience with them and we wish you many fun times on your Edge snare.
Ah good questions. We did test both options at first for logistic and sound qualities and the wood center went best by far!
Thanks so much for your feedback! The Edge does project quite a bit. A "louder" snare if you will. We are happy you have found a use for both of your snare drums. :)

I love DW sooo much!!! I would really love to work for DW as my career someday. I just need to know what kind of education I would need...
@systemfirez YES! Great question. The MAG/3P snare system will retro fit to all DW snare drums (including Edge).

It does increase tension on the bottom head but not so much that you would have to tune accordingly per setting. Thanks for watching!
I love my Edge snares, thanks John! dw for life.
You are a tech! JG's still using that thing!
John, you are nothing but the truth! Dw Drums rocks! I love this company!

have you ever imagined that s=doing it vice-versa could be cool?? the softness of the wood on the hit and pop of the metal :)
@One7ruth comments like this are why we do what we do :] thank YOU
