Ever since Dieter Rams left Braun when Gillet acquired the company and wanted new designs just for the sake of marketing, many of their product designs now don't have that timeless aspect to it. It's flashy with curves as if it's going on a racing track, and unnecessarily loud.
John Fisher, I don't know you but well done : ) I really enjoyed the cinematography (I know there are more people involved, but just wanted to say I saw the hard work)
Just went through Braun's entire international catalogue and it’s a bit sad to see how few of the products they make actually reflect what they were talking about in the movie. Mostly just generic, loud and over-designed objects, that apart from the logo have very little in common with their wonderful historic products and ethos.
Yeah it's sad to see they lost Dieter Ram's elegance in his sense of simplicity. Honestly doesn't make sense to me when companies like Apple (love or hate them) are definitely inspired by Dieter's designs
Raph Ma I see, the iPod scroll wheel inspiration I remember reading about, but the breadth of their design portfolio is shocking! Now I want to buy a Braun razor lol.
This guy isn't a bad interviewer but the edits need to focus less on him and more on the interviewee. We don't even know who the interviewer is, why is there so much focus on him in these edits?
I think Braun intended this to seem like it was 'his' vlog where he is taking us along his journey to learn more about design.... but you are so right! Without any context or information about the interviewer, he seems more like a distraction than the intended "protagonist" of this series.
Braun hasn't done many good products for at least 20 years except the razors maybe. They have an iconic place in design history but they not relevant anymore.
Braun is just a shadow if its former self. The products have become low in quality standarts since they outsourced their productions and sold their name in license to others. It's a shame. Good design also needs high standarts in quality.
That model-presenter is so self-obsessed it's distracting and disturbing. The whole Braun design is eclipsed by the fake and awkwardly staged direction of this clip.

@@MrGatin777 Haha ok. I know Braun ethos (what the documentary on Dieter Rams) and this video is exactly un-Braun if we consider their design heritage.
It’s sad today they’re only really known for shavers. They have let the design slip badly since rams day and are produced in Asia now so low quality. The only thing that’s still good is the braun audio speakers but that’s not changed since rams design.
We live in a world where people make do with poor design. When I remove a light bulb, why is it hot? Fantastic piece enjoyed it. I'd like a wooden shaver please.
The lightbulb being a prime example of planned obsolescence. The original filament being carbon, and now tungsten. We are re-entering a new wave of designers who are examining where we are going and referencing the past successes.

Yeah, I'm afraid I just can't see these principles reflected in Braun's modern products at all. They do work pretty well in my experience. But they're certainly not subtle or beautiful.
@@iAmTheSquidThing I totally agree, the new designs don't pay the same respect to colour or form, they're too focused on appearing masculine. The reason the old designs are still popular isn't because of hipsters, it's because they're timeless designs - can't be said of the modern designs.
@@lordbalzamore7692 You dont know how much I agree with that statement. They have not adopted Dieters principles. Good design is honest and they show of faux metal all over the product shown. Good design is unobtrusive then logo on the front. Play with patterns, Dieter would have strangled the guy.
5:30 Of course you need your good old short hair feminist hipster girl to make it about gender equality, even though it has nothing to do with the design of a freakin' shaver.
I know this is just a fashion/lifestyle magazine, but the questions posed by... even his fashion and general behaviour... could scream a little less cliché
Did anybody see the T3 Pocket radio from 1958 as an inspiration for the iPod?
Mehnnnn. Would you believe it ?!!
Jony Ive had said many times that Dieter designs are his inspiration

this honestly
BRAUN inspired most of Jony Ive's designs at Apple
Lindau32 Dieter Rams, designer and god
Correct. It can be seen how the radio pocket had a big influence on the iPod.
dion one that’s facts 😅😂💯

Would be so useful to have this design series organized in a playlist as well. I love every episode!

Never thought Braun was so design focused. Really cool.
They are so design focused that even apple copied nearly everything from them www.media-engine.de/braun-vs-apple/
Raph Ma I see, the iPod scroll wheel inspiration I remember reading about, but the breadth of their design portfolio is shocking! Now I want to buy a Braun razor lol.
Dieter Rams is the industrial design OG.
Anyone who knows anything about design knows of Dieter Rams and Braun
lol
They managed to speak for 7 minutes, without saying anything.

I had that white mini hairdryer. Also have an electric shaver from the late 80s. It still looks so contemporary today
The interviewer is just serving explicit Studio 54 tease! 💁🏾♂️✨
WOW his full cut pinstripe suit is amazing !!!!!!

Staged? You think a design company wouldn't be incredibly meticulous in how they framed and composed every shot? It's not just an interview.

When I see this movie I feel powful. I will work hard to be a designer, because I like design .
nice video , thumbs up, BUT please stop the annoying background music

Anyone know the name of the shelf at the beginning? Around 30 seconds in
Pleasant video
Paul Bettany as Dieter Rams, c'mon.. i'll be waiting for the movie
They are actually advertising for the shaver in the beginning shot.
British Matthew Mccoughey
Nice shaving gadget ❤
I wish GQ and the presenter would pronounce the name of the company correctly. It's easy it means brown, and you pronounce it, brown

Thanks actually enjoyed that ....
Can someone tell me where I could find the same suit that Richard Biedul is wearing there ?
So, are we all on the same page that this interviewer is John Mulaney with a mustache?
chile, please
It's funny that he is obsessed with beauty and perfection, yet Byerdo: Baudelaire is a very mediocre fragrance. He needs help with fragrance choices.
Interesting how the company name is pronounced both as 'Brown' and 'bron' in this video.

Why is the interviewer wearing bell bottoms??
full cut trousers inspired from 40's/50's era of tailoring pulled off very well here actually
Ade .Randle : pulled off very well but not for this era...

Design fail!!
J wish this video and others here was on german language , dancke ❤🌞
the main character in these videos is always moustache man, nodding.
Design and craftman has to go hand in hand. Braun used to be design+good quality, now its design+madeinchina
as any brand out there.
Cool vid but you know what looks nicer than these gizmos? A safety razor
this is guy is copying the braun shaver logo, what the heck? Try searching braun on youtube.
Good boy.
I think the reporter is obsessed with his looks 🙄
You think?🤣
Weirdly filmed and edited but Braun will always be great. Dieter is the greatest ever.
THIS IS A JOKE. Don’t tell me that the guys from the bauhaus movement or any of those iconic designers would even look twice ate your “design”.
from inovatif and good design to razor product 😐
old brAun product design influented to apple product today
Looks like the presenter had to borrow his dad's suit and did not have time to resize it.
"Eliminate anything that is unnecessary"... What about that mustache though
What about the hair on his head?
jajajajaj bron.....b-r-A-U-n
This dude gives me the creeps, he looks like he encases his enemies in metal
Lol I don’t know why but 4:04 to 4:11 made me cringe a little
Ohhhh what u did more than what Apple doing now but u ppl lost
For some weird reason, the presenter seems to think he's a model.
The presenter of this is unbearable. He has this ridiculous smouldering look that’s so vain. It’s so cringe
I'm sorry but what can of psychopath packs his shoes over a shirt?
how can they look at the braun design heritage and create these abominations of razors
When you can't afford the real jonny ive, and you just settle for a master edition copy😂
in this case Jony Ive is the copy.
😂
Modern Braun items are not beautiful….. they are abysmally designed.
I've finally found intelligence
5:30 she's hot
The host's pants and shoes look feminine. Dieter is overrated!
REALLY? Americans spell "Brun" ? wtf? even the A is big enought to spell "brAun" like it should be.
