    Matt, I really appreciate the way you break it down for us. Did you notice that at around 54" when you do the front spin in the other direction you add an extra 1/2 spin between hand changes?

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Daniel O'Brien someone else pointed that out too. I never noticed before but now I’m more aware! That’s the best part of video - it is a powerful teaching and learning tool. I’m always trying to learn, and I appreciate your and everyone else’s feedback!! Thanks!

      @@pasquinilli- Thanks for the reply. I'm a musician and I first noticed the timing difference. Then I slowed the video down to .25 speed and watched it very carefully to confirm what my musician's intuition had already told me. (I was feeling a triplet rhythm of: L - R, L - R for the first spin, but an even four feel of: R - L -, R - L-, for the second.)
      I've only been playing with a bo now for two weeks but am having a lot of fun attempting the techniques you demonstrate in these videos. Please keep 'em coming! - Daniel

      Daniel O'Brien haha. Thanks! I think I’ve been adding a spin for years if not from the beginning and I never noticed until someone pointed it out. I love the fact that your musicians eye caught it! Thanks for sharing. Keep training it only gets more fun!

      @@pasquinilli Yesterday my bos arrived, (I've been practicing with a PVC pipe I cut to 5'6".)
      As a result of our conversation, I've experimented with spinning 540° as well as 720° for the complete hand change and doing so in both directions. I've also played with having the second hand on-top and underneath, crossing over/under and staying on the same side. All of them seem to have their advantages and disadvantages, but none feel unnatural or wrong.

    Thank you for this training. I had a stroke & my memory is fragmented. This is like rifle & bayonet training again at Cherry Point, actually better for today's problems.

    Ahaa you do have a vid about the grabbing of the staff by the bad guy..
    While sparring i found that the one with the most leverage always wins in a tug.
    ..another question, how to keep a dog at bay (not danage it too much at first) with the jo staff. Any pionters? Dogs can pose a menace for way walkers..
    Cheers, very usefull video again!

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I’ll be making more of these videos soon! Dogs are like people, if you can control the head, you control the dog. Put the tip of the staff in its face, if it is more aggressive, hit it hard on the nose. Worst case, shove the staff in its jaws and push back as far as you can.

    • @pasquinilli

      spijkerpoes opposite grip for the sweep is best. Both works but opposite will always be stronger.

      Thanks Donald. It goes both ways! I had grown disillusioned teaching younger and younger kids with softer and softer parents over the years. I decided to put all my curriculum here online for free and then maybe go do something else. But this TH-cam channel continues to connect me to people who really love and desire to train in the martial arts that I fell in love with so long ago. So you guys inspire me way more! And I thank you!!

      @@pasquinilli Hello I'm just starting, I'm guessing I would warm up and practice my spin's with Oak and then switch to rattan to practice my strike's because I don't want to break my nice Oak.

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gavin haha. I understand how you feel. But start with the lighter staff for spins and then also spin with the oak but after a few minutes lubricating and warming up the joints with rattan. On strikes, use the oak for striking in the air to work on technique and then switch to rattan when you make contact. That’s how I would do it.
