Advanced Staff Spinning Combination

  • Here's a combination of a handful of staff spinning techniques. Though it may seem tricky at first, if you take your time and pay close attention to the hand transfers, the consistency will pay off and the flow of the combination will come naturally.
    There is no need to do it exactly as I have, and in the beginning it is okay to do each flowering technique more than once to get your bearings. Have fun and be sure to tag me in a video when you get this down!

    Thank ou so much for sharing this knowledge. Sometimes when it's sunny I go for a walk with my staff on the back and try your movements when I find a nice place :)
    Juste a question, is it useful martially speaking to learn staff spinning techniques ? I have the feeling it's classy but we cannot really hit with it. Also, are there some staff techniques compatible with a sword ?
    Thanks again!

    • @SifuKuttel
      @SifuKuttel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Staff spinning is good for coordination and familiarity with the weapon. So yes it will help your staff handling, but no, it is not a substitute for training actual fighting techniques and sparring.

    Is it possible to show to do around the neck spin a full one (Or do some one just needs to practice until it gives the right amount of power to not have the staff fly off?)
    Also if you could show the combination used by a monk in the movie "karate kid" (the new one) while they are at the temple and they are passing by the monks.

    • @SifuKuttel
      @SifuKuttel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a possibility to spin the staff entirely around the neck and even more from there. I would suggest you check out this video th-cam.com/video/CZA9R56p7_k/w-d-xo.html and many more from Michelle C. Smith. In the meantime, I'll go find the scene you're talking about ✌️

    Lovely video and very informative. Can I ask what bo you are using as there seems to be a lot of flexibility. I use a wooden stick but it is purely solid. Would love to try with what you have. Thank you

    • @SifuKuttel
      @SifuKuttel  ปีที่แล้ว

      The staff is made of rattan, so it has extra flexibility. Glad you enjoyed the video!

  • @Corusame
    @Corusame 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why are the bo's always so springy looking? you'd think a firmer stick would do more damage

    • @SifuKuttel
      @SifuKuttel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's the type of wood, Chinese martial arts typically use waxwood, bamboo, and rattan. It is most likely because those types were the most abundant and accessible, but also flexibility in the wood has a positive as it doesn't break as easy when it comes into contact with other weapons/people.

    is there any advanced advanced? I started the staff a week ago and almost mastered it. I wanna try Kusarigama.

    • @Jon-ov4nc
      @Jon-ov4nc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      《King Kobra》 generally speaking the staff is considered a basic low grade weapon. it doesnt take long to get good with it, and mastery may onky take a couple years of dilligent practice. kusarigama is a big jump from a staff.
      ive trained for some time with many weapons including but not limited to the staff, spear, battleaxe, tiger fork, 3 section staff (get this one to a good level of skill and then youve mastered the staff), broadsword, kama, rope dart, and chainwhip. kusarigama and other soft-weapons are EXTREMELY dangerous to try and use without proper instruction and require many years or even decades of training to master.

    • @SifuKuttel

      That is a great length for you for a double end staff, but you can always work with longer. Traditional measurements for the staff are from ground to the tip of your fingers with your arm extended up. Just work with what's comfortable for you.

    • @SifuKuttel
      @SifuKuttel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never been attacked by a propeller either, but just in case one does, I'll be ready 😆 It is an advanced spinning technique and called that because one has to have some fundamental skills before moving straight to the combination. It is not, however, a fighting staff technique. TH-cam videos are good for the fancy stuff that can be followed from home, but all the good stuff has to be experienced in person where you can actually feel the mechanics in action.
