When I was ten years old, my best friend got this exact bike for Christmas. Keep in mind that we were used to riding go karts and mini bikes. The first time I rode that CR80 I thought, "Greg's parents are trying to kill him!" For a 70 pound kid, that thing was an absolute ROCKET.
Is that the wizard that says can we bring inside Ken” - I love that- you guys aren’t playin around - honest- integrity, passion and just - yeahhh I’m jealous lol. Serious. Such a beautiful machine
Shwazanagger on an Elsinore- that wheel comes up I think ... like a few inches on one of the laps- I’m gonna find - it’s amazing what the way restore these machines ! Unreal 🙌🏻🇺🇸👌🏻
I had a 1980 when I was 10 I was all of 90 pounds I was literally on a rocket ship!!! Flushing Queens didnt know what hit it! I could carry the wheel 2 in off the ground till 60 mph! Hes not even near the power band. Wow alot of us 50 year olds are smiling right now showing our kids this video
My dad rode mine as much as i rode it. After seeing me rip on it my friends parents told thier kids they wernt allowed to ride it or ride back of me. That bike was a little buzzsaw. I'd hit 55-60 mph on our little 30 mph road in seconds and neighbors just shook thier heads.
My best friend had a 1980 CR80 and I had a 1980 YZ80 and it was whoever got the best take off would win the race. We spent more time riding in our neighbor streets than trails. Cops hated us because they couldn't catch us.
My first bike was a 1980 Honda CR80. I was 12 and weighed 98lbs. That bike taught me respect for the 2 stroke motor. I dusted all other bikes to the first corner.....I miss the exhilaration of that bike!!!!
That was absolutely incredible. I had a YAmaha YZ 80 1981. Mom and dad bought it for me brand new when I was just 12 years old. Best bike I ever owned. Mine had a plastic tank though and it ripped also. The BEST years of my life riding that bike.
@Brian Gisler, I was 13 in 1981. My best friend had a 1981 YZ 80H, and our buddies bought two leftover 1980 CR80Rs from Bettencourts in Bridgewater MA. Needless to say, my 1978 Suzuki DS80 could not even remotely keep up! But...... fast forward to May of 2020..... and youll see that I currently have a 1980 CR80R and a 1981 Yamaha YZ80H in my collection. Both are one kick starters, and both are mostly original, the Honda more so. I often go downstairs to my shop, sit on one of my rolling work stools, and slide back and forth between them, literally looking at them for wayyyyyyy longer than Ill admit here and remembering the old days.
Growing up on my country block we had about all the dirt bikes covered. I had a 1978 Suzuki RM80. The Honda CR, Yamaha YZ, Kawasaki KX and KDX, and even a Hodaka Steen 100 were all represented... My RM would eat them all!
This is such a awesome video, showing how powerful these little babies are , thank you for always responding and posting all these awesome videos- dimepiece all the way !!!
They were so small and ferocious back then!!!! I always thought these cr80s looked so trick with their piggy back reservoirs and red engines😍 I was well moved on to 125’s by 81, but I remember mini expert riders giving me fits on my 125 at open practice days! Those were certainly great times for moto!!!! Great looking little beast!
I spent most of my life in the north east, In the year 2009, I was done with winter ! Moved south !! One of the best things I ever did ! No more snow, no more cold...AND... MOTOCROSS WEATHER ALL YEAR LONG !!!!!!!!!
I had an 83 yz80 bored out, cylinder ported and performance reeds. I was just over 100 lbs and it was an absolute rocket! All those 80cc bikes will really surprise you, you think because they are small that they aren't fast but that thing made more power than the 82 kdx175 I traded it for, and was a lot lighter. Made for a fun ride whenever I wasn't wrenching on it.
Kid in our neighbourhood had one early eighties. I had since moved on to 125's by then but got to rip on it for a few minutes. Brilliant little mx'er almost as fast as my 125 !
One year my dad and I got my little brother his first dirt bike in pieces in 3 boxes dude said we could have it and it was a 1980 cr80 and that thing ripps it out runs most of his buddies 125s still to this day
It’s fast but mine is faster but you have an adult on that one so I’m not sure if mine is faster mine is a 2006 cr 85 big wheel if anyone knows let me know

I just picked up a super good condition 82 100R, came with original service manual and original carburetor. The kid before me who had it, took SUPER good care of this bike.
So, I legit was just down in my shop at 0330 rubbing, fondling, polishing, and overall just basically staring at my 1980 CR80R, and 1981 YZ80H. I came upstairs to refresh my drinkie at 0405, and fire up TH-cam and this video is numero uno. My CR80R starts on a firstie like that almost every time. I was close to taking it around “The Loop” after watching this, but smartened up and decided I was better off getting some rack lol. My story from back in the day is similar to many here in the comments. At 52, I know I cant ride like I did at 12/13, but I can rip my CR or YZ any time just for that freakin assault on the senses RUSH that they provide. If I can find a 1980-1981 RM80 and a 1981-1983 KX80, Im getting them too!!! Sorry for the long winded ramble, thanks for the row thru the gears Ken!
I had an '80 and '81 model CR80 when they first. They were rockets. The '80 the faster of the two. Huge powerband blast in the upper midrange. A real monster.
i love the old honda 2 stroke sound, late 70's to early 80's 2 strokes, maybe even 90's 2 strokes... they just have a certain sound that makes you smile

Love this, I remember buying bikes and feeling the exhaust before first kick every time, check if it has been warmed up first.. This vid makes me want to buy a ticket to UK
I had a RM370. Anybody remember that bike. Loud as anything. Parents made me coast it off the hill and away from the neighborhood before I started it. I also had a 1980 CR250 red rooster... great bike. Left start crank.
Hello to the Kaplan family and team - if I can go back to work , I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to make up my mind of all the toys in your office!!! Man I love these babies !!!! Wow. My second motocross bike was a cr 80 of 1984. Plastic tank, Showa monoshock + liquid cooled already. This 1980 model looks so vintage just 3 years before. Great
I had same bike when I was 13. Absolutely goes like shit off a shovel. My mate had a go and put him in hospital for three months. Band kicked in took the bike from underneath him and could not de throttle he hit a jump and took off like the space shuttle lol. Proper animal of a bike.
I had one of these as a kid and I bump started in on a hill for about 2 years until someone told me about the choke... kick started first time every time when I knew that LOL
These little babies haul ass “ I love it - soo true. I’ve watched this video soo many times- gonna watch again- you were rippin that thing !!! Air cooled - original - soo cool lovin this.
The CR 80 RA 1980 And the CR 80 RB 1981 ELSINORE RED DEVILS WOW all they did was lift in every gear, I used to blow off the latest rm and cr 80s and they would be scratching there heads, HOW. Definitely a little weapon and a classic piece of motocross history. Awesome god bless Australia.
Steven E. Yep I had one a 1978 I believe foot pegs sucked they were bolted into then aluminum gear case and stripped out!!!! Other than that I used keep up with my friends on the trails with their YZ 80’s
@@Sacapuntas69 I hear you! It's like the difference between a V8 and a 4-cylinder haha although my friends head XR80 and xr100 they kept running for years I had to keep replacing piston and rings every couple of months it got expensive
I also had the mid 80's water cooled CR80 when in my teens. It had a bored out Atac cilinder and a power valve exhaust. Sounded great. I used it as if it was a moped, and was chased by the police a couple of times... It was fast enough though 😉

Honesty , integrity, and the work orders- not only am I learning from a professional motorcross champion, I’m also learning and loving this - I can’t say enough so I’ll shut up. Had the 1980 version. With DG head, pipe, and larger carb, fox shocks and heavier fork springs. Fast little bike. However kept breaking my fox shocks, or the charge would go during the moto. Sold it went yz80 and many victories later. That bike looks clean.
Everyone saying these haul ass for an 80. I can confirm this is entirely correct. I’m 31 and had one of these up until recently. It’s not just a memory these things do absolutely rip with a 180lb guy, for a 10 year old this would have been pure madness......
Daily dose of the rare Elsinore 80 yankin Sr.up IG you look closely, he’s a big dude - looking forward to comin to see the museum, I’m glad it’s open. I’m coming with cash Ken- Kaplan Cycles baby, the golden touch. You guys live the life- 💪🏻🇺🇸🤝🙏💵🙋♂️

That powerband kicking in is so nostalgic... Takes me back 2 my childhood hammering my kx 80 😂
I had same bike when I was 13. Absolutely goes like shit off a shovel. My mate had a go and put him in hospital for three months. Band kicked in took the bike from underneath him and could not de throttle he hit a jump and took off like the space shuttle lol. Proper animal of a bike.
Cr80's are my favorite 80/85. Had a '99 CR80 and have been mixing gas since those old 80s are a blast!
My first motor cross bike 40 years ago, friggin awesome bike and still crack a smile remembering this bike.
Chewbacca rides a minibike! Kidding! Good job dude!!!
Never get tired of this video - Elsinore- taking Sr. For a ride - unreal
Those Hondas last forever!
Those 80's are so cool, I never had one but my buddys did. They seemed scary at the time. In that condition, a rare piece, for sure!
I love old shit. Remember the good old Honda XR75?
Steven E. Yep I had one a 1978 I believe foot pegs sucked they were bolted into then aluminum gear case and stripped out!!!!
Other than that I used keep up with my friends on the trails with their YZ 80’s
My first bike1974 xr75 then the 1981 CR80R. Would be fun to have one again!
Yes!! That’s my profile picture!!
1977 xl 75 was my first bike
When I was twelve my first bike was a 1983 Honda cr80r and it was first year for safety seat liquid-cooled! Wicked fast!
tippy Dog my friend had a 84 cr 80 and they were fast .
Am on restoring one and it rips for a 80cc
Sadly I had an XR80. Wanted a CR so bad to be like my older brother on his CR250
Bone 🦴 cold - BEAUTIFUL- bone stock outta the box- can’t wait to see you guys !! Honesty , integrity, and the work orders- not only am I learning from a professional motorcross champion, I’m also learning and loving this - I can’t say enough so I’ll shut up. Chris I wanna pic your brain too lol - you se where it lifts Sr. ???
I looped my 1980 and messed up the back fender quite a few times when I was 13. Everyone who rode it ended up on their ass. The power band hit hard.
This would be like shrek riding a tricycle, man you could see the back tire hit the rear fender as soon as he sat his ass down on the bike haha
Someone got lucky and has that in their living room. I’d sleep next to it. Beautiful- love those CR’80’s
I had one just like this as a kid. Brings me way back

I had a new one exactly like it at 12 and 13 years old. My older brothers were scared of it. I want it!
When it started up it brought a big smile on my face
Dayumn, that's one good looking bike. No wonder I wanted one so bad when I was a kid.
You guys tweet these things like no tomorrow!!! I love when he says bring it inside - on the polyurethaned floor !! Soo beautiful- patina- honest humble bikes with the golden touch only from Kaplan. Yes I got a question- can you make more !? Lol love that vid time for another view
You guys live the life- 💪🏻🇺🇸🤝🙏💵🙋♂️
Sounds like my 1990 cr80 when I was a teen... thing was a beast and always started right up no problem beat quads like 400ex and others with it in a race. Honda all the way!!

Very nice. My neighbor had a 1981 brand new when he was 12. I got an 1982 the following summer. First Pro-Link CR80. Was Kool !!
