God of Abundance

1 Kings 17:8-16, Mark 12:38-44
In moments of history like we are currently in, it is important to remember who the one true Lord is. Those in power too often are the causes of the lack in our nation and world. This is not something new. The widow from 1 Kings and the widow from Mark’s gospel are both individuals whom their leaders have failed. King Ahab has ruled over Northern Israel bringing about a drought that is causing people to starve. The religious leaders of Jesus’ time are more concerned about their outward religious appearance than actually upholding the Law. Both fail the widows causing them to be completely without. But God see those who are on the margins. God sees those who seem to have nothing left. And once of God’s most miraculous traits is creating abundance where there is seemingly nothing! Even when it seems all hope is lost and death is right around the corner, God shows up, the oil in the jar remains full, and the little to nothing you have left ends up being more than you could ever need.
