Thanks for the help you’re a lifesaver! I had some weird residue on the inside of my speedometer that showed up all of the sudden. Thankfully it cleaned right up.
Supergooood! Really. Thanks for the video! I've done everything step by step. The most important thing in the work is to be PATIENT !!!! Just go slowly, slowly, round by round.... Thanks!
Signed in for the first time just to thank you. I was going to order a new speedo after my needle fell apart. Unfortunately it shattered on removal due to age and sun. But at least I was able to make a new one and get it back together using your guide. Thx.
Dude, thank you for this video, seriously thank you! I had a perfectly good speedometer with a needle positioned wrong at the 6 o clock position and it's always been that way. It worked fine just was 25 mph under my real speed so as you could imagine it was annoying to look at and to have it blocking my digital screen. I had no symptoms of a faulty or dirty speed sensor as everything worked perfectly including rpms odometer and even the speedo besides the needle being wrongly positioned. This video gave me the confidence to open my speedo up and zero out the needle. The speedo you had in the video is very similar to mine almost identical actually so to see a step by step and thorough description on how to pull the needle up and off was just spectacular! I did everything exactly how you did it and at some points I was second guessing myself like prying the crimp up which took me a very long time to do and especially the needle itself which required alot more force to get off than I was expecting and it scared the hell outta me. I realized the needle has 3 click positions when putting back on and I had to place it at 1 mph to get it to 0 because the first 2 clicks seem like its lined up at 0 the first time I did it but than the final 3rd click to push it all the way down kept moving me down 1 mph. So I started at 1 mph and the first 2 clicks were at 1 mph than the final click lined it perfectly at 0 mph. I did diagnostics sweep and it did the full 120 mph sweep which was first test than I rode it and the speedo worked perfectly! Thanks to ypur video I finally have a perfect speedometer!!! I really love the speedo I got too and it is like brand new so it wouldve sucked having to change it. I can't tell you how long ive agonized over this thinking id have to spend $350+ for a new speedo and/or speed sensor but all I needed was to reposition the needle all along and until your video I thought wasnt possible! So dude, seriously thank you!!
My speedo needle broke about 3/4 of the way down and this video is gonna help allot at least now I know I can replace the needle rather than 300+ for the whole assy
Hey were you able to reposition the needle in your speedometer? My needle is in the 6 o'clock position in middle of digital analog screen instead of sitting at 0 and when I ride it will go up like normal but be 25 mph under the speed im going. So if im doing 25mph the needle will get to 0 and 8f im going 50mph the needle will get to 25 mph. Im stressing about this and don't wanna change my speedo cuz of the odometer reading not being accurate. Wondering if you know if I can fix this? Thanks

I have that speedo on my Harley and the needle is in the 6 o'clock position and is 25 mph under my actual speed when riding. It literally sits in the middle of the electronic screen for odometer reading etc. What is wrong!? Can I fix it by moving the needle back to 0 if I open it up?
Thanks for posting this! I need to switch my bike to KMH where did that gauge face you installed come from? Most custom places make a metric face that fits the metric stock Canadian Harley gauge, they do not have the same scale, 100 is slightly to the left of centre and they go to 220, on a gauge that is originally MPH 100 km/h would be slightly to the right and go to 190.
Good point! You can actually design the face and place the 100 more or less where you want it depending on where you place the 0 position. If you place it exactly as per the original MPH scale the converted face in KM/H will have the 100 slightly to the right. Now if you were to design a new face and place the 0 position slightly below, the entire scale would rotate to the left and place your 0 further down which to me would be rather weird. I can see your point but it makes no difference at all, the needle still moves by a pulse that calculates in MPH the only thing that changes is the scale that you see. You can get these at www.iguanacustom.com. If you have any problems contact me and I will arrange one for you.
I got my bezel off successfully, however mine is black not chrome. I now need to get it back on, should I just use tape to protect the edge I'm going to be crimping? I fear the hammer hits would scratch the black. I ordered a replacement bezel in case I screw up and scuff it up.

here in mexico there are not these dial faces for sale, so my question is if is it posible to open the speedo and just to put a small decal or paint it just to make it different, does it damage the speedo, thanks for your atention
Raúl romero Vázquez Hi Raul. If you follow the instruction as per the video, you are not likely to damage your speedo. What you should consider is what type of face you want to use as it need to be calibrated. The people who sell them over here do export. Give them a try. Ride safe amigo!
1989 Harley FXRS speedometer cable location? Is it on motor or front wheel? A frien picked up the bike without a cable, looks like the frontend has been changed - but the new cable is to short to reach the front wheel? Thanks for any help ..
The example is quite an obliging one and little collateral damage was done to the bezel but some need a lot of persuading. The problem is that instead of just lifting the turned-over-edge the bezel gets splayed and won't then crimp down cleanly, evidencing having been stripped. Chrome flakes off too. What is needed (and it would be better in this example too) is a tight fitting sleeve made on a lathe, or failing that a hose clip or even a Jubilee clip. Position the sleeve flush with the turned-over-edge and go to work, moving the clip around so you always un-crimp at a tight fitting area. This restricts the bending to only the turned-over-edge and with a little care and time it won't show it's been apart.
Nice comment haieyoldhippy. I did think about the sleeve but then turned the idea down as not everybody has a lathe (I do) and then again I thin it would have to be an expanding sleeve and so thin it might cut into the plastic case without realizing it. As for the other two, you never know, give it a try and let us know. BTW is you pray it open just enough it won't split. Mine was stainless so no chrome chipping Ride safe brother
Cool "Biker's". Coincidentally just had a Lancia Fulvia (tick tock) clock presented for fixing. Particularly difficult to un-crimp because kinda thick steel, needed sharpened (cheap) side cutters to lift the lip but nibbling against a hose clip worked fine. Rubber side down bro.
What year gauge was that? Your version...the plate popped on....( glued on the support plate )....and another video I watched, says the gauge plate is glued on...then the support plate is removed with 2 screws? How do I know which type I have? I will be attempting it on a 2004 flh gauge...but only for the LED.
Jonathon Williams Well that is a good question Jonathon. Sorry for such a late, late reply. I did not see your message. There is only one way to do this in a MpH speedo: hack into the speedo software via a HD black box! That ain't happening any time soon! This said, there are some models sold in the UK, CA and other countries that come both in MpH and Km. With these, it's a question of using the select button on start up. This procedure is well detailed within the owners manual
That's wicked thanks Dude, I've been riding with a scratched plastic cover for ages n it's bugged the hell out me!!!! Do you recommend replacing with glass??? Thanks 😎
Mika.... no need to get aggressive! Lots of people ask lots of questions in different way. It would seem that I missed the "how thick" part and thought you wanted to know the diam. In any case, its about 2-3mm for all its worth!
How I was aggressive? My sincere apologies, that wasn't my intention! About 2-3mm, would it be possible for you to measure actual dial window thickness? 3mm plexi glass is easily available, 2mm is bit harder to find. No hurry, here at the Land of the Finns, also known as Finland, winter is closing! =0)
I've been experiencing fogging issues on my Sportster speedometer. Would you recommend drilling up a hole or biting a little bit of the rubber seal off? Many thanks! Congrats for your excellent tutorial!!!
I think my problem is a gasket issue I have moisture trapped under my glass that makes it nearly impossible to see my speed or milage how do I fix that and how do I seperate my top and bottom speedo case halves? I can not get them apart to work on speedo I have an 08 xl1200n sportster in case you need that info.
Hi Andrew... I don't fully understand when you say that you want to separate the top and bottom of the speedo halves. As you can see in the video, the speedo has a top bezel that holds the glass and gasket in place. When you take this off you have the needle, the fascia. Once you remove the face of the dial you will be able to see the couple of self taping screws that hold the electronic board to the outer plastic case. Thats all there is to it! But to be honest... many fogging is due to speedos that are 100% air tight after somebody opened it and thought it would be great to seal it all with silicone!!! Bad idea!!!The speedo needs to breathe and at the same time be water tight but not air tight! It's the same effect as fogging inside a car: open the window and boom it's gone! I'll bet you 100 bucks your speedeo has been opened and had the "silicone" treatment. Let me know. Ride safe bro!
Meaning the outer case that holds it on the tree there is a chromed cover that hold it in and locks the electrical cord to the back of it ill link a pic when i get home if it will help
BTW thinking of my Sporster when I had it (XL1200C)at the back end of the can that contains the speedo, you should find a couple of screws that hold the speedo tight in its place. Take them out and the speedo should slide up to allow you to disconnect it. Carefull with the rubber protective gasket. Hope this helps
Hello, really helpful vid. Couple of questions: Where did you get the sticker at? And regarding the film protecting the lcd screen, mine got sunburned with what can i replace that? Thanks!
I installed a much larger motor in my bike and it's likely going to break the analog speedometer which only goes to 120mph. I noticed that the metric ones are good for 180 kp/h. I see some metric ones on ebay but they're expensive but I'd love to buy one and make it accurately read mph.
Sorry Dino. You might want to try Custom Chrone, Motorcycle Storehouse, Drag Specialties or you local glass shop. You might be surprised! If you opt for the latter, make Shure you order shatter proof of tell them what you want to use it for, I'm sure they will be happy to help out. Ride safe
Hi Nalex... that's a good question! I do know that HD shops carry these but cannot tell you the price. I've checked the Custom Chrome and Motrocycle Storehouse catalogues and could not find any. The only aftermarket catalogue that I know of that carries 5" bezel and glass kit is Drag Specialties ref DS-243809. Hope this helps. Don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE please. Ride safe!
Biker's Garage 101 thanks for the response. I just need to replace the bezel on my dyna tachometer which got damage in a little accident, but can't find a replacement anywhere.
HI Alexis... I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. Do you meen the digital LCD? I have not tried this and would have serious doubts about it! In principle, I would like to think that you should be able to but finding a replacement is going to be something of a struggle is not impossible and that is not even counting on the installation.
I am thinking about swapping the black trim ring off my stock speedo to put on my new HD lcd tach/speedo. I don't know why they put the ugly chrome trim on such an amazing tach/speedo but I will fix that!
Marko Nevalainen Hi Marko. You can find them for several HD models at www.iguanacustom.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=68&products_id=3970 They have for several models. If you don't find yours, send them an email and if you need any help let me know. I'll see what I can do. Cheers
This is not for touring models 2014 -Present. The metal trim comes off the same way but now Harley has heat welded the gasket and requires a knife to cut the seal.
I bet you wouldn't be able to create a video if there was a rule that says "you cannot say "OKAY". If I were to count from the beginning, I'd bet you said okay over 500 times. I still gave you a thumbs up, okay?

ps- you do online sales? if so, send your web page, sales info or whatever mate.
Hey there! Thank you for the great video. I have a question. In my case the guage has a plastic ring. How can I remove it without breaking it?
Giannis Kounnas Hi Gianni’s. Thanks for watching. That’s a good question! I have tried on a couple of other bikes with plastic rims and they all break!
They are epoxied I to the body making it near impossible to espérate then.
Have not been able to figure that one out yet!

Thanks for the video, i replaced my face on this using the guide. I have a question/problem and maybe you have some advice. Speedometer doesn't want to go above 20mph now. When it tries to it just bounces back under 20mph. bike is a 14 heritage softail. Any help is appreciated.
can you help me identify the lights that go in this particular speedo???ive looked everywhere .i dont know which ones to get i want them bright
Aberardo, they are not lights, they are surface mounted LEDs
Hope that helps.
here in mexico there are not these dial faces for sale, so my question is if is it posible to open the speedo and just to put a small decal or paint it just to make it different, does it damage the speedo, thanks for your atention
Raúl romero Vázquez Hi Raul. If you follow the instruction as per the video, you are not likely to damage your speedo. What you should consider is what type of face you want to use as it need to be calibrated. The people who sell them over here do export. Give them a try. Ride safe amigo!
Have you changed the odometer small screen?
1989 Harley FXRS speedometer cable location? Is it on motor or front wheel?
A frien picked up the bike without a cable, looks like the frontend has been changed - but the new cable is to short to reach the front wheel? Thanks for any help ..
If I remember correctly, it has a front end driver. I can only track down the first fully electronic units during the mid 90's
I have to replace the burnt LEDs of my tacheometer. where do i find them ? do you help me?
thanks for the video...I will add that it's easy to Crack the glass when forcing mini tack puller along edge.
Mine was stainless so no chrome chipping
Ride safe brother
+sumyonguy This came off a 2001 Fatboy. Hope it helps. Ride safe!
Thanks good jub 😍
thanks for the video , i do have a question though now that u changed the guage from miles to km how do u change the digital display from miles to km
Do you know where to buy replacement glass for a hd 2006 sportster 883c xl ? I've looked everywhere, do you have a link perhaps?
Matthew S sorry bro. Best bet is your local HD dealer. You could also try Custome Chrome, Motorcycle storehouse, etc
That's wicked thanks Dude, I've been riding with a scratched plastic cover for ages n it's bugged the hell out me!!!! Do you recommend replacing with glass??? Thanks 😎
Oh yes I do! Glass all the way anytime! Make sure its tempered though. Go original if you can
Ride safe bro!
How thick is dial window?
Thought to change color of speedo by changing dial window to, in my case, to purple plexi glass...
Won't work. It's about 103mm
Thickness of dial glass? Not diameter! Thickness can't be 103mm...?
Mika.... no need to get aggressive!
No problem bro! I just saw too many exclamation marks that all. No worries we are good.
Cold in Finland yes!
Ride same my man!
Best tutorial I've seen online thanks for this !!!
Do you know where we can send a Harley speedometer and get the glass replace in the USA. Thankyou Steve from seattle, wash usa
No idea. There has to be tons of places but to be honest, I don't know of any. I do know that any authorised HD will do it. Give it a try, it's easy
I think you can buy a new speedo glass and rubber gasket for older Harleys at J & P Cycles...
What glue do you use?
Awesome video where can I buy a new face plate? Cheers
Do you know where we can get "Dual" face plates... in MPH and KPM ???
Sorry bro! I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to help you there.

Do you know if the early Japanese style (1988) needle comes off the same way?
+Daniel Bell No idea Daniel! I would think so as most are mounted in the same way.
I've been experiencing fogging issues on my Sportster speedometer. Would you recommend drilling up a hole or biting a little bit of the rubber seal off? Many thanks! Congrats for your excellent tutorial!!!
The seals gone already hence the fogging
Hey Biker Garage what is the website to get the dial faces I have a speedometer that is in miles and I want to switch it to Km/h?
+Michael Doucette Hi Mike... check www.iguanacustom.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=68&products_id=3970. They should be able to help you.
Thanks :)
where can I buy glass? I need to replace my meter but I can not buy anywhere
OK Andrew... will keep an eye out but removing speedo from a Sportster to open the bezel is no problem.
Ok cool
BTW thinking of my Sporster when I had it (XL1200C)at the back end of the can that contains the speedo, you should find a couple of screws that hold the speedo tight in its place. Take them out and the speedo should slide up to allow you to disconnect it. Carefull with the rubber protective gasket.
Hope this helps
I was doing a wheelie on u sportster and my tach needle now spins all over the place after I landed is this fixable ?
Got no idea nick! I'm a firm believer that hogs are just not for wheelies

Hello, really helpful vid. Couple of questions:
Where did you get the sticker at?
And regarding the film protecting the lcd screen, mine got sunburned with what can i replace that?
Thanks!
This helped with my Victory V92C bike too! Thanks for the instructions!!
I installed a much larger motor in my bike and it's likely going to break the analog speedometer which only goes to 120mph. I noticed that the metric ones are good for 180 kp/h. I see some metric ones on ebay but they're expensive but I'd
love to buy one and make it accurately read mph.
Do you know where I can buy the glass?
Sorry Dino. You might want to try Custom Chrone, Motorcycle Storehouse, Drag Specialties or you local glass shop. You might be surprised! If you opt for the latter, make Shure you order shatter proof of tell them what you want to use it for, I'm sure they will be happy to help out.

Thank you for this inspirational video
can you get a copy of the colour numbers
And how do you get the odometer addapted? Because he will now count miles and show kilometers?
This is simple, the new face is calibrated according to the movement of the needle regardless of if the speedo is mph or km. Simple math
Thank you sir! for sharing such a use full skilled knowledge
+skywa Thank you Skywa!
Hi. I assume that on a 1975 speedo, there is no reset?
Hi Martin, sorry don't understand the question too well. This is a 2001 speedo. Now if the '75 has a reset or not, that i cannot tell ya.
A: Champion?
B: Legend?
C: Awesome?
D: All of the above?
DDDDD✔✅☑
Great video, thanks.
If the bezel is damaged, can a new one be obtained?
Hi Nalex... that's a good question!

Biker's Garage 101 thanks for the response. I just need to replace the bezel on my dyna tachometer which got damage in a little accident, but can't find a replacement anywhere.
Still have the dial face you removed? I want it if you do!
Excellent video thanks for the tutorial !!!
Thank you for watching!

Is it possible to change the odometer screen ?
HI Alexis... I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. Do you meen the digital LCD? I have not tried this and would have serious doubts about it! In principle, I would like to think that you should be able to but finding a replacement is going to be something of a struggle is not impossible and that is not even counting on the installation.
Yes I meant the digital LCD. The numbers on my 99 Road King are fading and are almost unreadable.
That's a BIG issue indeed. Maybe the display is coming loose off the board. Difficult to without looking further into it but its not good my friend!
Thank you for the video. I will try to do as you did and wipe out the water mark inside the glass.
Hey there,
Can you direct me to where you buy a km/hour face plate?
Amazon or Ebay
Very helpful!
13:15 you can probably use Goof Off to remove the glue. Goof Off should not damage the plastic
Where did get new face tin
I'm wanting for a new one bezel for 2007 sportster. Did you find one for yours?
I need a mph face and I can't find a website to get one
I am thinking about swapping the black trim ring off my stock speedo to put on my new HD lcd tach/speedo. I don't know why they put the ugly chrome trim on such an amazing tach/speedo but I will fix that!
I love the Dukes of Hazzard chase scene music. I feel Rosco P Cotrane is after me.
Where can I get those km/h face plates?
Marko Nevalainen Hi Marko. You can find them for several HD models at www.iguanacustom.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=68&products_id=3970
They have for several models. If you don't find yours, send them an email and if you need any help let me know. I'll see what I can do.
Cheers
Great video! Thanks for the help!
bill jones Thank you Bill! Glad this could help.
That was the longest two minute tutorial I have ever watched.
Great Video! I want to do the mph to kmh to mine but how do you convert the odometer reading from Miles to KM?
I have the same question ?
I was introduced to a good video lol
Well... what can I say Andy. Hope it was useful
Ride safe!
This is not for touring models 2014 -Present. The metal trim comes off the same way but now Harley has heat welded the gasket and requires a knife to cut the seal.
first before using nail puller around place if, tape around plastic so tool won't mark up speedo.
great tutorial thanks!
Thanks for letting me know how
Hi Børge Iversen, sorry but I don't understand. Thanks for watching though... Tak!

I bet you wouldn't be able to create a video if there was a rule that says "you cannot say "OKAY".
If I were to count from the beginning, I'd bet you said okay over 500 times.
I still gave you a thumbs up, okay?
