    I watched your cautionary tale of drilling a hole in the Sport Glide Speedo and I was particularly interested in your new speedo and your rip apart of the old one.Watching your videos and noting your comment that the new speedo seems to have a “pinhole” in the bottom I decided to have a go on my own Sport Glide Speedo (same year and model as yours), which has always had condensation. I decided to start on the corner diagonally opposite the one you drilled as your rip apart video seemed to show more space there. I filed down that corner to make it thinner and also flat and then used a heated needle to make a “pinhole” in the plastic.
    It seems to have worked! The speedo still functions as it should and the condensation is getting less - even clearing completely for the last half of my (200K ish) ride this morning.
    Thanks for taking the fall so that others might learn.

      Happy to show my fuck ups. This channel.is all about a regular bloke working on his Harley. I definitely don't want to pretend I'm better than I am

    Thank you for that video. My question is however, since your old speedometer was ruined anyway, why didnt you go ahead and drill a whole in that corner to see if it cleared the electronics instead of just wondering if it would ???

    • @RidesForDays
      @RidesForDays  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that would have been a good idea, didn't think of it

    Would have been really useful if you'd drilled a few holes in different places to see which ones avoid the electronics.

    Thanks for this update! I drilled in the corner that you suggested (opposite from the bar code) and everything still works as it should. I've only ridden the bike once, but I had no fogging. Need to get a few more rides in to know for sure, but this really helped me.

      Good to hear. My new speedo is working well and is giving me no problems so far thankfully

      @@RidesForDays Well, I may have been a little premature. Nice day yesterday; sunny, humid and temps in the mid 70's (fahrenheit). Digital display started fogging again. I don't know if I need to drill a couple more holes or just wait and see if it clears up over time. I'm a little scared of more drilling as I don't want to accidentally nick something on the circuit board.

      Another update: Yesterday I rode my Sport Glide from my house (south Georgia) to St. Augustine, Florida for the "Riding into History" bike show. Temperature was around 60F when I left home, got up to around 88F and humid during the ride. Put on around 300 miles, with no fogging whatsoever. Looks like this fix works! Thanks again...

    I know this is 10 months old now, but I would like to suggest.. instead of drilling a hole, it would be better to melt a hole by heating up an old small drill bit.. that way there would be no fear of drilling into anything, nor would there be any drill remnants being dropped inside the unit.

      @RidesForDays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good suggestion hopefully I won't need to lol. Been good so far..had no problems since the new one was installed

    Hey mate , seem like there's room where the pin hole is from factory. Maybe you could drill some holes In different parts to see if there is room ? Thanks

    Thanks for the video, question, after installing leds I checked lights with multimeter, they light up but they do not have the same voltage they only read 1. as oppose to 1.8 or 1.9. are they installed wrong?

    Thanks for the video!
    Any chance you could suggest whether one can connect to the electra glide 2010 (j1850) a used matching speedometer (j1850) from other bike (say road king 2010) and do not get a VINERR displayed?
    p.s. people say it's just a drop in swap, other say - I need special equipment to "merry" speedo with ecm.

    Maybe it's the camera angle but the corner adjacent to where you drilled (opposite to the big round corner) looks like it has a days of room to drill, as long as you go close to the corner.
    Cheers for the video, it satisfied my curiosity.

    • @RidesForDays
      @RidesForDays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah looks like a bit of room to drill there..it's just a dodgy game lol

  • @tbthomp2

    Seems like a better approach might be to drill a small pin hole in the side of the outer case instead of the bottom. It would seem that just breaching the outer case would be sufficient. If you over drill just slightly, the drill bit would only encounter the outer plastic of the inner assembly.

    I'm going to put in a warranty claim on mine shortly. Will let you know how I go. If they can't stop water ingress they need to be serviceable with replaceable seals. The whole design really pisses me off.

    Thanks Roddy, It looks like the other corner (on the same side) has room too for a small drill hole as well. I drilled my hole right in the centre of the back, so yeah, not good either. Its good info for anyone else out there to go off. I ended up buying a second hand speedo off marketplace from a 2019 Heritage softail. Hopefully it'll work out for me too.
