This has been for sale for a couple of years. Used to be €270,000 or something. Owner used to use it as a mothership for his racing yacht or something.
Oh my God!! What a diamond in the rough! With a total rifit, upgrade (700K) she would be a globe trotting gem without a doubt! Arrrrrrr may your days be long, your rhum glass full, and your crew willing................. Be happy, be safe
I love it brigs back the memories of the 86 footer I worked on in the 70's in Alaska that was 60 years old at the time. It was used as a salmon tender in the summer and King crab in the fall and winter.
She's a good ship with a lot of potential. Had I known about her earlier I actually might have been interested myself. Oh well, I hope the new owner will have a lot of fun with Daphne.
That would be a cool vessel to own while keeping some of the historical equipment, update the cabins to brighten her up, while not shown the gallery freshen up with some updated appliances. Overall, very impressive vessel.
Yea. Iwas deckie in Mid '50's out of Hartlepool Suttons deepwater boats Those farkin things are safe enuff. BUT roll like bloody barrels withiut the trawl down The North Sea in winter was a prick of a place. Bouncier with bigger holes than the Atlantic believe me. I remember Radio Cariline and a coupla others when they first started on the 3 mile limit. Hey Plopsa... Look at that bow. Too fine for any fishing boat I ever saw. They usually more bluff for lift and carying capacity. She built for going to and surveying, at faster speeds, without load.
I wouldn't remove anything but I'd add more modern navigation equipment. Normally I'd say a new engine but the one it has seems to be doing just fine. And it would do well as a diver and explorer sub tender in a new life.
as with a lot of other misty eyed boat lovers the first thing you must do is have a bottom survey, and go from there, I have seen lots of boat purchases get fully fitted out to liveaboard only to find that the bottom was paper thin and they have no money left. boat on the hard and measure plate thickness and do the anodes.
Wow, she looks to be beautiful condition outwardly. Very low machinery hours. Would be intersting to see the results of a marine survey, I suspect bidding will go sunstantially higher than the minimum bid. Hope you will do a followup after she sells. Wonderful content, thank you.
It would be interesting to see her turned into an economical expidition boat. The Engine is awesome but could be replaced with a Combined Diesel Electric system. Cover the roof and the like with solar panels. Equip her with a modern Sail or kite system for further economy. Strip interior completely and turn into luxury accomodation and galley. etc. With a 5,000 nm range pushed further by the use of wind and solar power maybe a 7,000 nm range would be the result. I would want two engines as a minimum but if you have 12 hours of solar power in batteries and power goes you have time to fix the fault etc. If you have a secondary generator you may be able to limp it home etc. As said it would be an incredible boat to fix up.
I agree. It's the sort of engine that is built for continuous use and - dating from 1960 - rev per minute is probably very low compared to modern diesel engines.
@@barryholiday8998 If it was a complete overhaul (revised in English?) then she probably got a new counter. Our engine is 8 years old, we only use the boat for holidays, and the counter says 2400 hours.
A little less than a years use on the engine., 333 days. We typically put around 7000 hours a year on the mains on the fishing boat I engineer on. Not buying the icebreaker claim. Possibly ice classed , but the scantlings look pretty light for that. Still a interesting old boat. And if it was a fisheries patrol vessel probably lightly used.
Was on a carrier and had a ship like that follow us from Florida into the Arctic Circle and back. I'm talking waves over the bow of the carrier and nothing but pilothouse showing on the trawler
Very cool old boat. Probably going to be captain/owner vessel at just 30m. I would put a new CAT in her, turn it into a 3 cabin configuration and open the wheel house up to a single large space. Lots of old equipment to get rid of when updating. But would be very nice with large cabins, nice new deck and crane for a new 8m tender. Probably 2 mill, but would be very nice. 👍
Just a few years to soon to come up for sale because I am going to be looking for a ship like this for a fishing guide operation in Alaska. The open deck with hold the jet boats for travel and build some guest rooms for paying clients is what I am looking at for a long-range ship.
@@YachtBuoy I have worked my only job as a fishing & Hunting guide since 1976. I have worked from the Arctic to SE Alaska. I have so many fishing locations in Alaska that only are visited by float planes but by the mouth of the rivers at the ocean at Hight tides ships like is for sale can slip into the bays, off load the fishing jet boats with a crane from the deck of the ship and give clients a real remote salmon - trout fishing adventure where they have the river to them self or with the bears - moose - Caribou. By the ship guide operations under US law NO one owns the water or the fish. Some natives who might get pissed off too bad they don't own the water or the fish. As long as the clients stay in the river jet boats all is legal. To get clients to the ship many of the bigger bays have fishery's where aircraft land so using a jet boat from land to ship getting clients picked up isn't a problem. Also, in small river bays the ship is parker deliberately in where a fish cop would need to land a float plane, so you keep the evil corrupt bastard cops from bothering you and the clients by parking the ship in the planes only landing zone.
Could use some tidying up, maybe a little less austere, but it looks like a great framework to work with -- a woman's touch would warm it up. Wonder what the fuel costs would be compared to a conventional motor vessel.
Does she also sail?? I see some sailing elements on her!! She's stunning.. If I purchased her I'd do very little to change her.. but wud update an freshen her up. especially to update bathrooms an kinda change to more efficient an minimalistic stuff.
id say it might be a old school hoist from the 60s/70s. i noticed that too at the beginning.( edit after checking the first minute on pause). There is a roller furler on the front. so ya there is a sail to help it motor sail!
Christ on a bike that is quite a vessel! I'd be torn between keeping her as true to her build as possible...or transforming her into something luxurious. The windows in the pilothouse would be a defining feature...no matter how swish she was with the latest technology the windows would be like looking out of a stinky north sea trawler...by the time you'd upgraded her you could have bought a brand new super comfortable trawler yacht made in 2023. Amazing to see this boat though.
If I had the cash, I would buy it. Spend a few million $$$ (no more the 5 Mil $$$ max). Update the electronics to 2022 standards along with safety upgrades. Ice breaker? That forward locker did not look like an ice rated hull. Icebreakers usually have a rounded bow to ride up over the ice and the weight of the ship cracks the ice. While filming with a mobile phone the fine detail of the rust in the ceiling was difficult to make out. An upgrade to a movie camera with a wider angle lens is really necessary. With structural modifications/rust removal/painting and a new more economical/lighter/more powerful engine, rewiring, re plumbing, new deck and floors, nav equipment/satellite communications, surely the refit would be well over $500,000.

I think that it's mentioned in the video. 16 to 8 mm ...

Great old ship, thank you for showing us
Wonderful vessel , they really did make them to last back then .
Definitely cost to bring her back into shape also some time but a good project for the right person to be

Why in the world would you vandalize such a craft when you could just go get what you want purpose built. Leave he classic boats to their purpose.
Good luck to her and her new owner.
Long time ago hauled off western venture and looked exactly like that but herring boat .
that 400 hp diesel was dimensionally pretty darn large !
Big cylinders, low compression, low rev... less horse powers per kilo engine but lasts forever.
400hp at say1200rpm. Torque to swing the big props is what is required
Great potential.
This looks like a model I built as a boy back in the early 1970s.
The wheel house is sufficient and practical nothing more is needed put could always be supplemented
Is the 60's wheelhouse setup more reliable than the modern version? Keep it up!
