    Well, Sean, this hit a sweet spot for me. I've used digital since 1998, had Fuji S1 pro, S2 pro, still have an S5 pro, had the D100/200/300, all used for pro motorsport photography. I gave that up and, for the last few years, the DSLRs have sat in my huge backpack, unused and ignored. I've been using various Cybershot point & shoots for family snaps - convenient and with good results, but I've been missing the ability to be creative. Having seen this video, I did my reading & reviewing. And today I picked up my new RX100M2; the same as yours. Just picking it up out of the box, it feels good, and playing with the settings got plenty ooohs and aaahs. So thanks Sean - you inspired me to get back to real photography. All the best from Bonnie Scotland!

      +Malcy M Hi Malcy, I just wanted to thank you for your thoughtful post - oh, and congrats on the new RX100M2! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine. If you explore all of the various features and options in the camera, I think you will be pleased with its surprising power. By the way, Kristy and I visited Scotland a few years ago - Edinburgh was chilly in January, but we stayed at the beautiful Caledonian hotel (lucked up on a nice deal) and had a wonderful time. Cheers from the USA!

    Hi there, can you tell me why does my sony RX100 in video mode can only record at 50p ? I watch a lot of reviews of Sony RX100 that record at 60p. Thank you

      Maybe you have a PAL camera?

    • @PhotoArtBrussels

      On my RX100 III PAL and NTSC are settings in the menu. On NTSC it does 60p in PAL it does 50p.

    I have an RX100 Mark IV and find it to be an exceptional camera. One of the more useful features is full manual mode which is good for complex long exposures of the night sky. It also offers "apps" for tasks like time lapse though the app costs seem unreasonably high considering what you pay for the camera. The PlayMemories picture management software is also remarkably good for a bundled application, especially when combined with WiFi syncing which is criminally convenient.

    Thanks! I currently carry a Lumix DMC ZS50 for travel but its 12mp sensor is only a bit more sensitive than my iPhone's camera. It looks like the Sony RX100 series could be a great upgrade. BTW, how's the foot coming?

    Got one (the RX Mark III). You're absolutely right. Fits easily in your pocket and takes great pics.

    Would love to see a video or two on photo management. What's your workflow and what software do you use? Also what do you use for storage?

    What is the leather skin cover and the red button on the shutter?
    How did you affix it ?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for this! I debating between this and the Canon g7x. This seems like a step up. We would use it mostly for vlogging. I have a big dlsr and agree that sometimes I don't want to drag it out.

    • @TheSeanMichael
      @TheSeanMichael  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Josh and Kali | The Freedom Theory For vlogging, take a look at the Mark iii and Mark iv versions - they have an LCD screen that completely flips around so you can see it while the cam is pointed at you.

    • @TheFreedomTheory
      @TheFreedomTheory 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is exactly what I want! Thank you! Going to check those out asap!

      The Mark iv is the latest and greatest. amzn.to/1pdoBCr Or you can pick up the Mark iii for less. (Mark iv tweaks the sensor, and adds some cool video modes with 4k recording).

    • @TheFreedomTheory
      @TheFreedomTheory 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can dig some 4k recording! Might be worth the extra dough! Thanks for your help. I am loving this channel! I don't know anyone who knows cameras so this is really valuable.

    • @TheSeanMichael
      @TheSeanMichael  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Josh and Kali | The Freedom Theory Thanks, I'm glad to have this channel going now... this stuff is a lot of fun to me. The RX100 Mark iv also has some insane slow motion recording modes - like 1000 frame per second slow mo. 4k footage is really nice but it is a bear to edit and render! I'm about to publish our first 4k video onto our original Loloho channel. The upload alone took 7 hours, lol Reminds me of the old days of TH-cam.

    Great video. Is this "to much camera," if we would only be using the Auto Mode and using it for Video? I would like to get a great point and shot+video we can take on all of our RV trips. we have lots of greats trips planed this year (including Glacier) and would love to find and awesome camera to take along to remember all the memories. Your thoughts???

    • @TheSeanMichael
      @TheSeanMichael  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Gibson This camera has a couple of great auto modes, so no worries there. However, if interested in a slightly larger camera you might also take a look at the Sony RX10 - same sensor, with a DSLR style body. amzn.to/1pdg7Lw The upside of that model is a lens that zooms out to 200mm - might be good for wildlife in Glacier. You've got a lot of great choices these days!

    I've owned many Nikons and also Panasonic 4/3rds, but as said in this video carrying this gear around is a pain. The RX100 takes quality images and you can put into your pocket easily so....

    Ummm you did not give us a comparison with the GoPro (maybe for sponsor sake) but could you give a comparison. I know the BIG point would be the waterproof. However, it appears the Sony (which I carry on trips but not this model) appears to be a much better lens and more adjustmens as you would a higher quality camera. Where does it fit pricewise? I may check out one of these because the cellphone control and view is a GIGANTIC plus and the size is just a slight bit smaller. Also does Sony offer some sort of gimble or shot stabilization for video? Thanks, am enjoying these camera videos, but do miss not having as many airstream travel videos. 8-)

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BigFireDave Haha, thanks, I will try to keep the Airstream videos coming too. I would put GoPro in a different category of camera. GoPro is more of an action-oriented video camera that also shoots stills - and yes, you can take it anywhere, including into water. But there's no zoom, just a fixed wide angle. The Sony RX100 is more of a powerful pocket hybrid camera, for both stills and video. The RX100 offers the user extensive manual control - it is intended to supplement or even replace a DSLR. But I wouldn't take an RX100 into water without some sort of housing. BTW, this video was not sponsored by Sony in any way. (I wish. ;-). All sponsored videos will always be clearly disclosed.

      Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping to find a single camera for everything I guess. LOL I have had a small Sony for many years now and enjoy it immensely. I guess when I finally get on the road I will need more than one camera anyway. I enjoy my camera so much they have come out with so many improvements and design changes but I dont want to let go of the old camera. LOL There are so many TH-camrs that exchange good or great reviews to get the product for free, so I am sorry for jumping to conclusions and will note that you will always state when the product has been given to you for the review. When I finally get on the road I will probably want to start a channel of my own but more of a VLOG than anything, keeping friends and family up to date on my fun and maybe throw in a little do it yourself on some things for the fun of it. 8-) I really have no desire to travel outside the US at this time but will get my passport renewed so I can eventually take the Alaskan run into consideration when the time comes. I am history buff and there are some places I would like to see but it seems too dangerous these days. Thanks again, Dave

    Thanks for a very user friendly video. I saw in the video that you've attached the Sony Bluetooth mic on the Sony rx100 ii. Did it work out for you ok? I've been looking for an audio solution for my Sony rx100 ii as well. Please let me know if that worked. Thanks ahead.

      +Nick Phan Hi Nick, the Sony Bluetooth mic is great. I review it here: th-cam.com/video/O_8AkSGL_0o/w-d-xo.html Since shooting the review, my appreciation of the Bluetooth mic has grown.... it's really an excellent audio solution and an outstanding value.

      +Sarah Allan mk3 and up use a less with less reach. So research the model specs. Also check out the RX10 series if you want zoom.

    I believe you missed to mentioned a very important point that the Sony RX100 MkI and MkII have very slow lenses while the MkIII and MkIV have much faster lenses.Also I would like to add that Nikon's new DL 24-85mm camera has pretty much same specs camera that is 350$ cheaper then the Sony RX100 IV, so it looks like a much better buy.

    • @TheSeanMichael
      @TheSeanMichael  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Amir E Thanks for your comment, and fair enough - but I tried to emphasize that all of the models have different features that the buyer should research. This is more of a review of the camera as a series than detailing the specs of each individual model (which is probably better done in writing than in video IMHO). I agree that the new Nikon cams look attractive! Cheers

    • @alfa170d
      @alfa170d 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I understand, problem is that average user has no idea what is a slow and fast lens and I thought this feature might be important to mention and maybe explained in few shorts words. I think the lenses on the first 2 and second pair are the main and biggest change really worth mentioning. Everything else is more tweaks then anything else going from first to last generation. Anyways I enjoyed the review and want to thank you for taking the time to make it.
