I find it genuinely unreal that this video drops right at the moment I'm looking at my first camera for a trip I leave on this weekend. Impeccable timing
Omg you guys are the BESSSSSTTTT buying this camera next week for my big Europe trip. Thank you for letting the world pick your brains and for sharing your valuable knowledge!!
I found you guys last night researching for my 21 days in Peru next month and I'm loving your content! I watched the whole Peru series and really enjoyed it. I'll mostly be paragliding in Lima and I was stoked to see some footage of that. Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks for being up front that Sony paid you to make this video. I'd rather hear that up front so I know that the review MAY BE tainted while I'm watching it rather than at the end of the video, making me feel like i wasn't told all the information up front. Great video, and I'm definitely adding this to the list of cameras I'm researching.
Dynasti. H you do realize that 1000 USD and 1200 CAD is actually a better rate for the Canadian right? It would actually be 1350, don´t complain, we actually have it better. Such an idiot.
Hey guys! Thanks for another great video! We just got a rx100 v and we’re still learning how to use it after coming across from lumix and canon. We’re sure you get this request a lot but we’d love to see a follow up video to see how you’ve set up your camera for vlogging/filmmaking. It would be really helpful! 👍🏼
awesome! It’s a great camera - if you choose to buy one, help support our channel at no extra cost to yourself by using the affiliate link in the video description 🙏🏼 cheers!
Justified advertisement for the little SONY. I bought it myself and love it as a companion (not replacement) of a big rig Canon DSLR on our travels. But some buts remain: The body and the buttons are tiny, making it clumsy to operate especially if you want to use manual settings. I also really, really miss a touchscreen, e.g. to set a focus point. Absolutely awesome is the electronic viewfinder though. In short: I think the RX100 is pretty much perfect for video. For photos it's great if you have the time to fiddle with its settings (e.g. landscape pictures) or just automatic point and shoot. For real action shots and full control, I prefer a hefty DSLR with big a$$ buttons that I can operate blindly at a fraction of a second. That said, great channel Vagabrothers.
Whohoo! Great review guys, and thanks for showing how to use the key features. It’s timely because I just got this camera while I was in Melbourne last week. I’m currently on an “around the world” trip, and sending my Canon 70D home to use the RX100 V as my primary cam. Would love to see more mini tutorial videos on how to use the camera while filming travel vids.
Priorities, dude... if you’re into traveling, photography or filmmaking and has a low budget, this is the one. Also yes, for semi-professional to professional filmmaking, $1000 is cheap. Do some research on camera prices.
Milena Batelli yes it's relative. But this is squarely aimed at 'travelers on a budget' not semi pro videographer on a budget. The fact that they're explaining such basics as depth of field tells you that this video, sorry ad, isn't aimed at semi pro photographers. A camera for traveler on a budget isn't a $1000 camera.
Hey Francois - understand your comment but want you to understand that we don’t always do every video together, some times we want to share certain trips that one of us does without the other (and Vice Versa) Hope you understand and still support 🤙🏽
It is very much $999 which is basically $1,000 - but I can’t get mad. Love Sony and love you guys. All those features are great if only for the size. I’ve been wrestling with the idea of a DSLR but this just suits me way more.
Love this camera for travel too! I use mine for all of my video work and certain types of photography. My only gripes are the battery life while filming (it’s adequate for stills IMO) and the internal mics/lack of audio input. I wish so badly we could hook a Rode mic up to it...It’d be golden then.
A couple weeks ago I brought the Sony A6000, though I haven't had a full chance to test it out (i'm going to Spain in a couple weeks), it seems like a good camera! plus it was on a weekend offer and i got a free extra lens worth 200ish pounds
Hey guys do you guys think I should go for a sl2 and invest in lenses and accessories or get this? I'm leaning towards sl2 because I can later sell it and upgrade to a 70d or something and still use rest of my gear
Hello! Thanks for the awesome review, it certainly looks like you've had a moment to put it through its paces! I was wondering if there is a way to remotely view the image, the way one could when using a GoPro? I'm looking to use this camera in some tight places, and would like to be able to mount my camera in a corner, and frame up by viewing through my cell phone. Thanks!
Great video again guys, we got the Canon G7x Mark ii already so we'll use that till it breaks or we lose it haha. But this would be the one we would get if we didn't have the Canon already!
i've been googling all day for "best value camera in 2018" and it seems that the a6000 is ranked really high. Could you tell me if i should just get the rx100v instead. I understand there's a big price gap but I'm torn between paying cheap for a decent camera? Or just get the rx100v for 2018? any tips is appreciated!
Did Sony happen to give you a promo code? I'll probably buy one as a result of this video and it would be nice for them to know that the you guys were the deciding factor in my purchase.
Hey 👋🏼- unfortunately we couldn’t secure a promo code for this one, but you leaving this comment has already done the job of alerting them. We appreciate your support and understanding. There is an affiliate link in the description box that will help support our channel at no extra cost to you. Regardless, thanks for watching and commenting 🤙🏽
Hi guys, just wanted to let you know that I bought the camera today. I didn't buy it through the link you guys had because I wanted to support my local camera shop in Canada. I also got to play with it and shoot in different lighting environments before purchasing. Thank you so much for sharing your tips with everyone. Much appreciated.
I still don't know how to fully use my Sony RX camera. I saved hundreds of footage from my India trip in AVCHD, but had difficulty converting the MTS format so they've laid dormant. I'm planning a trip to Laos next month and not sure how to handle video footage. Perhaps, a post-production tutorial??
Awesome, you've got me convinced. I plan to get a new camera when I head back to Cali. (whenever the heck that is). Important question you didn't cover: does it have video stabilization and how does it do?
I have a Nikon D5200 a few nice lenses, tripod and external flashlight...I "collected" all this stuff the last few years (my teenage years boiii). I have been a lot into photography and my equipment is hella heavy. Next year I will travel the world and - of course - don't want to take all this heavy equipment with me. Will I sell all my equipment to get the Sony? Can it keep up with a good DSLR equipment?
Please help : I want a either sony A7Riii or A7iii - And I need a small lens for everything for travel in all situation. I want it to be light but super sharp image. Please advice.
Great video VagaBrothers!!! I do like the RX100 series but the problem is the small buttons for my massive hands. It's almost there, would be nice if there is a touchscreen for menu navigation, focusing, and touch shutter. Also, you forgot to mention the lens is 1.8f-2.8 and the slick electronic viewfinder that pops out for bright days or to focus on the shot. People underestimate having a small camera for travel since it does one thing well along with a phone. But totally torn between an RX100 series (3, 4, or 5), Lumix LX10/15, or the older LX100 which all have fast zoom lenses, 4K capabilities, and wireless connectivity.
At the end of the day it’s all about preference - if you’re going for a light minimalist set up, you could thoroughly document any trip with just this one camera
Thanks for the reply even though the video came out months ago. And that is really good to hear. Have been on the fence regarding the MarkV for a while. Do you reckon the new MarkVI is worth the extra cost or the MarkV is still the better option?
I bought the sony a7II last year and sometimes I feel like it is cumbersome, especially when I don't want to attract attention on myself for solo travel
I started looking at this camera, and ended up going with something used with a larger sensor. Definitely the camera I want but sadly 4x my budget so bought the Sony WX500 to get ball rolling, gotta start somewhere right although still not confident on camera so why spend big now just to struggle and lose interest

Nicole K very lucky we are indeed, because that is a much lower price than in the US, 1000 USD is 1350 CAD, so selling it for 1100 to 1200 is very good for us.
I find it genuinely unreal that this video drops right at the moment I'm looking at my first camera for a trip I leave on this weekend. Impeccable timing
Hahah nice! If you grab one be sure to use the link in our description :)
This review sold me. Love how comprehensive this is. Thanks guys! Y'all are appreciated. 💕💯
Thank you for this positive and kind comment. We appreciate your support. -Alex

You KILLED IT. That’s it. I’m buying this baby. Time to start vlogging my trips.
Thanks guys! Great recommendation with the usual VBro humor and playfulness. I hope Sony appreciates this!!
Your Videos are always so helpful, I watched a lot of your vids to prepare my travels :D 😍 😍
Hey guys! Was fun running into you at Northstar! Thanks again for all your work. Look forward to many more videos ahead. Take care!

Waiting for this camera to be delivered right now, thanks for making me feel way more confident in my decision! So excited :)
$948 on Amazon... When I read the headline "under $1000" I knew it was going to be *this close* to $1000 LOL
Definitely close but this is the best quality camera you will get in that price range. Small, compact, powerful and fits in your pocket 🤙🏽
Awesome! Thanks! :)
You're lucky, in Canada it's 1200$ xD
You can get it used for 500$ on Amazon
Dynasti. H you do realize that 1000 USD and 1200 CAD is actually a better rate for the Canadian right? It would actually be 1350, don´t complain, we actually have it better. Such an idiot.
I have this camera, could you do a video about how to master it? I feel like I don't use it to its full potential
just bought it
have any tips?
University teachers can not explain such a clear how to use a camera. You are brilliant.📷
Very helpful and informative.. welcome back Marko :-)
Hey guys! Thanks for another great video! We just got a rx100 v and we’re still learning how to use it after coming across from lumix and canon. I shoot everything with this camera and absolutely love it! The best purchase I've ever made 😀
🙌🏼🙌🏼
I️m planning on picking it up, would you mind sending me all the settings you use??
Your instagram user, please?
thanks guys, exactly what i’ve wanted
When did $1000 became "budget friendly-doesn't break the bank"??? I'm definitely broke or cheap... or both!!!
Juan Rodriguez Yeah it is pricey, but does just about everything. However, you could get the older versions like the mark 3 or 4.
Priorities, dude... if you’re into traveling, photography or filmmaking and has a low budget, this is the one. Also yes, for semi-professional to professional filmmaking, $1000 is cheap. Do some research on camera prices.

I think the a6000 is a good choice or idk
Come on it's $898 now do u say it's $1000
Yes finally a video with you two!
Hey Francois - understand your comment but want you to understand that we don’t always do every video together, some times we want to share certain trips that one of us does without the other (and Vice Versa) Hope you understand and still support 🤙🏽
Thanks
Do you have any tips on edit Sony RX100V footage? LUT´s or other tools. I don't get the picture/color and tones I want on my videos.
Great video!!! 👍👍👍 Just wanted to ask, does it have good video stabilization?
1:24....the way u held your camera....proves everything
It is very much $999 which is basically $1,000 - but I can’t get mad. Love Sony and love you guys. All those features are great if only for the size. I’ve been wrestling with the idea of a DSLR but this just suits me way more.
Sounds perfect. Thanks for sharing
@2:06 Very new to all this. What software do you use for Post Production? Is the process difficult?
I'm surching for a new camera. I will definitely check out this Sony camera.
Do you know how to wirelessly transfer video clips from the sony to an iPhone? the ap only works well for photos I've found so far.
This is very helpful! This looks like a really nice small camera.
Which one do you recommend getting the sony RX100v or the new RX100vii? Thanks
it really is a minimalist camera! i love sony cameras. i just got my a6300 and im stoked to make films with this bad boy haha
I just bought the RX100VA and really enjoyed watching your video. Where have you been LOL sub
thank you guys you have helped me a lot greeting from Morocco
I'm sold! I'm so buying this small powerful camera.
It’s such a good one! Hope you use our link for purchase to support the channel 🙏🏼
Always a great vlog thanks
Love this camera for travel too! I use mine for all of my video work and certain types of photography.
My only gripes are the battery life while filming (it’s adequate for stills IMO) and the internal mics/lack of audio input. I wish so badly we could hook a Rode mic up to it...It’d be golden then.
Should I buy this or use my qx1 and a6300
I'm curious how much of what you used here was shot with the camera you're promoting. All of it? Props for great quality video in all your posts.
Any settings tips to take great photos or portraits?
Great vid gents....also Trmp1
Great review!
Feels a lot like an ad guys. Always considered the rx100 to be a very expensive camera. Laughing at you constantly saying budget camera.
David Barton it’s an ad and they call it a review. 0 ethics.
This is 100% an ad. Sponsored video
They told you in the beginning this was a sponsored ad...
irishwars the title says it’s a review..

your videos are awesome keep it up!!!!!
Thanks guys, this was helpful. Only remaining question I have is, how good is the sound quality?
Can you do another video on a compact mirror less.and how it compares in compactness, versatility to the rx100.
Were the videos from this film shot on the rx100 or the Alpha
So it has a internal bokeh like filter like the g16? What about off camera flash. Can it trigger some
Canon flashes I have without a hotshoe?

This video really helped me because i am looking for a camera 😊
Great video again guys, we got the Canon G7x Mark ii already so we'll use that till it breaks or we lose it haha. But this would be the one we would get if we didn't have the Canon already!
Hi Vagabros. What do you think about Canon 750d ? I would like to use that camera for vloging and photography. Thnx :)
I am not good at technical stuff but image quality wise, is this better than lumix lx10? and is this better than lumix lx10 in low light?
i've been googling all day for "best value camera in 2018" and it seems that the a6000 is ranked really high. Could you tell me if i should just get the rx100v instead. I'm totally taking notes. I'm going to Ireland in a year and I'm going to want to get some decent video footage. Thanks for posting this. :-D
I still don't know how to fully use my Sony RX camera. I saved hundreds of footage from my India trip in AVCHD, but had difficulty converting the MTS format so they've laid dormant. I'm planning a trip to Laos next month and not sure how to handle video footage. Perhaps, a post-production tutorial??
im so gonna buy this camera😭😭😭😭😭😭😭u guys convincing me so damn good😍😍
Awesome, you've got me convinced. I plan to get a new camera when I head back to Cali. (whenever the heck that is). Important question you didn't cover: does it have video stabilization and how does it do?
It has solid internal stabilization 👍🏽
Sweet! Good to know.
Not true! The stabilization in 4k is actually terrible and it‘s very hard to shoot video handheld. In 1080p it does a good job though!
I see. I'll be shooting in 1080p.
Can it keep up with a good DSLR equipment?
i have the Iv, i only wish the battery/memory door could be accessed when on a tripod!
I gave you a like where her went "how slow can you go" 😂😂
Cool... 960fps Wow.... Its definitely on list.Thank you for detailed review with footages.
Why didn't you mention overheating in video mode?
I have a Nikon D5100 with 24/70 lens and a prime 50mm 1.8 lens. Should I sell this equipment to buy this RX100V?
Yes
Please help : I want a either sony A7Riii or A7iii - And I need a small lens for everything for travel in all situation. I want it to be light but super sharp image. Please advice.
Great video VagaBrothers!!! I do like the RX100 series but the problem is the small buttons for my massive hands. vagabrothers True enough there and no camera is perfect plus there's heaps of choices these days.
Where can we find that mini tripod?
00:58 01:16 01:24 03:06 03:30 mention the places , it would be cool if put the name of the places
I have an a6000 but it is kinda awkward to bring everywhere so I am thinking of buying RX100 va on the next payday :D
Where can I get that traveler/voyager shirt?
Does it not have overheating issues when shooting in 4K?
That was the RX100IV and those changes were addressed in new Version and firmware
Thanks for the reply even though the video came out months ago. And that is really good to hear. Have been on the fence regarding the MarkV for a while. Do you reckon the new MarkVI is worth the extra cost or the MarkV is still the better option?
Thanks for your thrusting review brother's
Thrusting? Hahah
I bought the sony a7II last year and sometimes I feel like it is cumbersome, especially when I don't want to attract attention on myself for solo travel
Thank you for sharing!! I’m looking for a new camera 🙂
Thank you for watching - if you decide to pick one up click the link in the description box and help us fund new adventures 🤙🏽
vagabrothers will do!
Where to buy it though in the UK most sony centres are closed down...Harrods then?
You can click the link in our bio - they have amazon in the UK right ?
Yeah but like to see products and use them before buying, I'd get the Panasonic G7 anyway.
Martin Taylor visit Jessops there dotted around the UK
I bought the version 1 n 3 Sony RX100. the version 1 was stolen in a airport in Malaysia.
I started looking at this camera, and ended up going with something used with a larger sensor. The RX100 has a tiny sensor, so if you want better performance than your smart phone, you are better off with a different camera. It ended up being less over all.

noleftturnunstoned lumix gx series gx9
noleftturnunstoned hahaha no the tiny sensor on the olympus is rated the same as the rx100 in high Iso so the only benefit will be dof IF you do not use a kit lens. If you use kit lens, the rx100 easi!y beats it.

Awesome Video. I am in for one.
👏🏼👏🏼
Got one on ebay, 3 Months old, under 1000 shots, as good as new for 650$ :)
Guys are awesome
Cheers Gilbert 🤙🏽
This camera have Optical Image Stabiliser??
Make a video on Fuji x100f plz..))
Vagabonds, you didn’t talk about the main feature. The amazing pop-up EVF, which no competitor has.
Were all the shots in this video by the camera?
LUMIX LX15 would also be an option that is more budget friendly.
And crappy focus
So compact.. So perfect!!
🙌🏼🙌🏼
TH-cam Expert yeah. so?
Definitely the camera I want but sadly 4x my budget so bought the Sony WX500 to get ball rolling, gotta start somewhere right although still not confident on camera so why spend big now just to struggle and lose interest
Sorry didn't understand, it to underwater too?
whats the name of the alpha serie camera that you use guys ?
Here’s a link to our full camera equipment list - kit.com/Vagabrothers/minimalist-travel-camera-essentials
"make sure you're in focus" as the camera goes out of focus. It's like you plan your shots or something! :D
0:09 did he hit his camera on the pillar?
I just looked this camera up and the price ranges between $1080-$1200 Canadian,... I hate that the canadian dollar is so low wtf
I started looking at this camera, and ended up going with something used with a larger sensor. The Sony has a tiny sensor, so if you want better performance than your smart phone, you are better off with a different camera. It ended up being less over all. I am also Canadian.
Nicole K very lucky we are indeed, because that is a much lower price than in the US, 1000 USD is 1350 CAD, so selling it for 1100 to 1200 is very good for us.
Love those pictures from India
How about the Lumix G7?
