    Summary: image / video quality is great, with rich RAW files and many advanced customization and photographic features. Ergonomics could be improved, but the camera's 1-inch 20 megapixel sensor is more than capable of delivering results. A great camera for travel, backpacking, or general photography.

    I really enjoyed the sample images to contextualize the quality and expectations of the camera! Travel is my primary passion (and the main driver behind my financial journey) so learning about the best ways to capture moments on the road is always great. Really nice video, can't wait to see more, just subscribed!

    Cool stuff, thanks for the inspiration! I just bought an unused RX100 Mk2 for 120 bucks and its a blast! I was still thinking of limiting myself to a phone camera as they've come a long way and I need a new phone, but the RX is just so much fun and comes along just as easily and keeps me in a more "photographer" mindset when I'm out and about. It comes out of the pocket way more often than a phone camera, and I can pretty much trust that if I put in the work it can give these kind of quality results in most situations.

    Great video and very nice photographs. I still have my RX100 MK1, which I bought roughly at the time when the MKII came out and as a result the prices for the MKI became a bit more reasonable. I considered upgrading to a newer version mainly because of the EVF, but the MK1 is still a great camera and it is also a bit smaller than the newer iterations. Plus the prices for the newest versions are IMHO ridiculously high with the MKVII costing twice as much as the MKI when it came out.

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Max! My psychological barrier for (new) compact cameras is around ~$750... it's hard for me to justify spending more than that, even with the inflation going on. Any more than that and I start considering interchangeable lens systems.

    Bought a rx100m1 5yrs ago for $140.
    This week I walked into a pawn shop simply to look at their $2 Blu-ray movies. Noticed a fimilar rx100m5 in their case. Ended up getting it for $190 plus tax so $210 out the door.
    My Dad bought my perfect condition M1 for $100.
    Loving the 4K and AF. My RX10m3 has even less use now.

    I just bought a first generation one for hardly anything as it was sold without a charger, but it looks almost immaculate and the SD card left inside shows careful ownership and comfortable, responsible middle-class life and a truly careful lady owner. I love the size and the finish of it already. This is a truly portable, maybe even pocketable camera that you could actually take on a trip with you or have around at family gatherings, unlike a larger camera, which transforms any trip into a photographic mission, dominating the travel experience (at least in my opinion).
    I’m still waiting for my cheap extra battery and charger, but ai have no reason to doubt that the camera will be amazing. I’d get a screen protector, though. They look very easy to scratch or damage.

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nice pickup! You're right about the screen - a screen protector is a very good idea. The RX100 series is right at the threshold of pocketability, in my opinion. A great travel camera that won't weigh you down--or arouse any second looks

    Enjoyed the video. I have a RX100 VII and a ZV1m1. Wonderful tools in tiny packages. Very handy for packing light for travel or for my paid side gig in church AV. These cameras do great for stills, video, and clean HDMI to live stream gear. They're much better than what they were marketed for.

    Can I take pictures if I turn the screen off?

  • @amermeleitor
    @amermeleitor ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My biggest problem with the RX100 is the dust ingress. My RX100 collect dust on the sensor and in the lens, is clearly noticeable in pictures. Then I have to open the camera and clean the sensor. Now I prefer the equally cheap Nex 5T with the kit lens and maybe a pair of tiny fast manual lenses. The size is not that different, have better picture quality, better grip and it's easier to clean

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true, dust ingress is the most annoying part about these compact cameras (Panasonic LX100 was a particularly bad one). NEX-5T looks like a nice compact system, glad to hear it's working for you! Kit zoom + fast macro could work as a minimal travel kit for most scenarios

    • @Max_Mustermann
      @Max_Mustermann ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems that keeping it in a case helps a bit. Plus occasionally brushing off the ring of dust that collects on the edge of the lens barrel due to the lens retracting. At least mine luckily doesn't have any dust issues after 7+ years of owning it (knocks on wood).

    Extremely informative just subbed!! i just have some doubts though.
    Does the camera have a flip out screen or is it fixed?? how is the microphone on the camera?? and finally what is the maximum video resolution on this camera?

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Arsalan!
      The camera has a fixed screen unfortunately and no mic port. There is a built-in microphone but it's no good because way too much background noise is always picked up with onboard mics unless you're in a really quiet room.
      Max video res is 1080p 60 fps.
      The RX100 IV has a tilting screen, mic port, and 4K 30 fps video making it a much better camera for video overall.

    Great video. I have one of these cameras but I'm not too keen on the jpeg colours. What did you use to edit the raws? I've got Lightroom 6 but can't seem to improve on the jpegs with it.

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! For those images I was using Photoshop CS6. I believe a lot of people have had success with the following JPEG settings:
      Creative style: Landscape (a lot warmer)
      Contrast: -2
      Sharpening: +1
      AWB: Amber +2
      DRO: Auto
      I would first try "Landscape" to see how you like the results, then possibly experiment with some of the other sliders. Hope that helps

    I am looking at the RX100 VII. I need the reach and the AF as I need to take pics of my toddler playing around. My A6000 struggles to latch on and the keeper rates are quite low. Also I don't want to buy any big fast zooms. (Heavy and pricey)
    How is the in - camera HDR mode and the quality of jpegs? I want to cut down on post- processing. I mostly shoot aperture and shutter priority.
    My Iphone has great DR. How is the DR on this one inch sensor and the eye AF on the RX100 VII?
    Will appreciate your take on this.

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kaushal, I don't have experience with the VII but starting with the IV the RX100 series has had excellent Eye AF. I would search for "Rx100 VII eye af" on youtube to see some real life reviews from users. Re: DR, certainly good enough for me - this 1 inch sensor is excellent as long as you don't need to do extreme stuff (like push more than 3 stops in the shadows). No experience with HDR mode in-camera, always preferred to do that in post-processing (old habits die hard)

    Good stuff. I find it's a great camera exept I worry about that lens one day it wont come out or retract! I find on landscapes the clouds easily blow out, colours are similar to my DSR1 typical Zeiss (good for me). The Pan LX100 is more of a camera in the metal feeling mode,and the original EOSM is a goodie with fixed 22mm for pics all available second hand CHEAP! Get all 3 and spend your life keeping batteries topped up.😂

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  ปีที่แล้ว

      You make great points here! :) I've used the LX100, absolutely excellent ergonomics vs. RX100 series which feels like a bar of soap without some kind of add-on grip. Funny enough I recently got an EOS M to play around with RAW magic lantern video with the 15-45 kit, but that 22mm sounds compelling enough to make it a pocketable travel cam!
