My ps4 was struggling to eject and accept discs. Used this video guide, pulled it apart, cleaned the rollers. Put it back together. Works as new now. Cheers. 👍
This video was great - not because it fixed my exact problem (not exactly) - but because it gave me confidence to open up my PS4 to diagnose the actual problem (the out of place rollers was in fact one of them - super thanks for that overview) - there were two other issues I was able to troubleshoot because I could get under the disc drive plate and inspect the roller and gearing assembly. really helpful, thank you. My issue was the rattle from the drive. After cleaning everything it didn't go away. Eventually I realized my problem was the shielding cover was a little bit bent inwards, I gently bent it the other way so that it wouldn't interfere with any moving parts of the drive. Solved.

Actually I watched 'how to eject CD manually' first but I don't have small and long cross shaped driver. So this video helped me out. Thanks alot. It was my first time opening up PS4 slim. I've just opened up my Australian model. They have used 10 tamper proof plastic screws instead of Phillips heads. Used hobby knife to remove heads. Rollers were fine, it's the white slider and gearbox that is causing the grief on mine. It's somehow jammed and will not let the inside disc guard/ door plate move up and down to allow disc to move through rubber seals. Have you been able to solve this mechanical mystery by chance?

This video helped me greatly. The only issue I had was that instead of the 10 screws holding the plate on, I had 2 screws and the rest of the spots were plastic thermal welded. I had to chisel them off, but it still worked out just fine.

Thanks so much for this video, it saved me at least $150 in repair costs. My wife accidentally got a mini disc stuck in the drive (don't ask) and I tried everything to get it out to no avail. I was worried about doing this myself but this video made it easy! I was able to work the disc out with tweezers after removing the metal plate. Some notes/tips: Place the screws on a surface where they'll stay in place and keep them in the order that you removed them, this will help when you reassemble. As many others have mentioned, my PS4 had the 'black dots' instead of the additional screws, I used needle nose pliers to pinch them off and then tweezers to gently make sure they would release. I don't know if this is the best way but it worked for me!

Followed this video to get my stuck cd out because the manual eject method didnt work for me. Got the dvd out but now it can't take in any disc after assembling it back... I'm a bit stuck at the metal plate. 8 of the 9 screws aren't screws. They're plastic bits that look to have been heated and formed into caps to prevent the plate from being removed.
Fixed a PS4 Slim, Rollers we’re definitely the issue bought it second hand and it was filled with Vape Gunk! Only recommendation is slowing down on the screws part and maybe do a freeze frame for clarity. Thanks again for you’re amazing help!

This tutorial saved my PS4!!! I had a disc stuck inside of it for 3-4 months and I was so unsure whether I should send it for repairs or do the thing myself! Turns out, my disc drive just needed to be readjusted because the rollers weren't working properly!!
Dude, Thank you so much! I found a post for a fat a slim a PRO playstations and 7 controllers. Of course all of it had little defects, but the worst was the slim, the tray was not taking in any discs, I opened it following your video and BAM! the spring that holds the two black arms together had fallen off the loop. Put it back on and now the console is working. The rest was just general cleanup, console initialization and thumbstick replacement. Hurt my back at work and haven't been working so I've been doing a lot of flipping of game consoles for an extra buck. Your videos are always helpful.
My PS4 Slim won't accept discs. No disc is inserted and I can't put the disc in. I hope this will help me. Edit: the spring for that mechanism on top of the disc drive fell inside the drive but thanks to this video, I was able to get it out and now everything's working. Thank you so much, man!
OMG THANK YOU! I just bought a slim off of Facebook marketplace. The lady I bought it from was super nice and promised it worked (and I fully Believe she thought that) I was short on time but she offered me every bit of demonstration (online, disc and dl'd games, HDMI and audio check etc). I decided it was already midnight and chose to not demo it. Get it home.. can't read games. Just made a faint grunting from the optical drive and no sound when shaken. Putting it on it's side didn't help either. Found your video, followed step by step ( except I used a micro screwdriver instead of a t8 sec torx) and low and behold! An old school bubble gum wrapper attached to a yellow checkered sticker balled up in the optical drive!
This video helped take the fear out of cracking my PS4 Slim up to operate. Although my lot run didn't have as many screws holding the internal metal plate, I could still follow along and get the job done. Thanks!

I even then got stumped as I have the PS4 with the plastic welds so I found your other tutorial and managed to remove those safely too! @@luplewis9837 I had those. He has another video showing how to unpick these slightly so you can lift the casing. If you are careful you can do without too much damage and then replace the cover later
I followed your tutorial. Mine. I did not have to open the bottom. It's a slim too.and it has plastic screws that are permanent. I made a decision to just snap them out. You have helped a lot. I had to open mine twice though. When I put back the disc thing, it was not well aligned inside. So it did not swallow in any disc. So I opened again and I watched your video like three times over, paused and saw how yours was aligned. It now worked. By the way I found two discs inside, toy knife, coins, DSTV card... My son is the culprit.
I've been able to follow through with your straight foward instructions accordingly but some of the screws are just completely sealed tight and I'm ready to give up :(

Man thank you for the walk through!!! Definitely didn't realize how much dust was in my PS4. Used an Air Duster can an then cleaned the rollers up an the eye. Now the disk drive works perfectly.
My ps4 slim wasn’t taking in discs. This worked to get the disc back in right after putting it back together and plugging the console in. I thought the problem would be completely fixed so I ejected the disc and attempted to insert and it wouldn’t go in. I had to redo everything in order to insert the disc again. But this does work.
@@juhiss912 if I remember correctly it should be one of the springs that is connected to a white piece that moves when a disc is inserted, I don’t really know how to explain it

I did everything exactly and made sure everything was exactly in the right place when putting it back together and it still won't take disks. I don't know what else to do. 🙁
@@GassyHippo ye, but most of them are ps4 slim users. Sony's software is that when one thing is broken, it thinks it's corrupt so it will shut down, everything has to cooperate otherwise this will happen. The update to 7.02 is a harddrive killer to the most user. That's why sony apolagized on their forum and told us there will be another system update very soon to deal with this.

Soap got spilled down the disk port on mine when i moved because my sister decided to pack soap in the same box as my electronics last minute 😤, everything else works so i figured some soap was on the laser lense. Took it apart and i forgot to eject the disk before taking it apart 🤦🏻♂️. Cleaned the laser and then put the disk back in before assembly since i figured it would save a step and now the ps4 doesn’t seem to know a disk is in and wont eject the old one. Did i mess something up? Or should i take it back apart and remove the disk? Please help! And thanks 🙏🏼

Thank you kind sir. My console works again like it should. I just cleaned the rollers and laser. My console was taking discs but only when it was starting, after that nope, removing disc without any issues but after that it was making weird noises and nothing. Thank you so much.
@tronicfix llc have you come across an error coded (SU-42118-6) before? I've read in forums that it seems to be a disk malfunction (even though the disk drive works and is functioning normally). I'm considering replacing the disk drive since this thing is way past any warranties. Will this eliminate the error or will I just be wasting money. I refuse to spend much more money on a system that was working just fine until Sony did their 5.5 update. I think this error is horse crap implemented by Sony to either get people to send in their Playstations for repair or upgrade to their 4k Pro version. Neither of those are an option for me so I'm looking for some feedback. Thanks!

Hey my Ps4 has a problem. when we turn it on and there is no disc in there when we try to put a game in it won't take the disc. we have to turn it off then turn it back on. then it starts to make a sound that it wants to get a disc in there thats when we put are game in. so we click the eject button to get the game out. then we have put it in rest mode then turn it back on to put another game inside to play . its getting annoying. OMG THANK YOU! I just bought a slim off of Facebook marketplace. The lady I bought it from was super nice and promised it worked (and I fully Believe she thought that) I was short on time but she offered me every bit of demonstration (online, disc and dl'd games, HDMI and audio check etc). I decided it was already midnight and chose to not demo it.
Get it home.. can't read games. Just made a faint grunting from the optical drive and no sound when shaken. Putting it on it's side didn't help either.
Found your video, followed step by step ( except I used a micro screwdriver instead of a t8 sec torx) and low and behold! An old school bubble gum wrapper attached to a yellow checkered sticker balled up in the optical drive!
Ha, ha...nice. We've found all kinds of stuff in the disc drives...most recently a lottery card.

I knew you'd know the answer. I mainly needed to see how the arms on the disk drive top went back in my stupid self took my PlayStation apart to clean it with a disc in it and didn't pay attention to the plastic gears
Thanks so much from the UK! You guided me calmly to fix my PS4 as the material fringing on the outside of the disc drive entrance had got caught in the rollers. I even then got stumped as I have the PS4 with the plastic welds so I found your other tutorial and managed to remove those safely too! Thanks again for giving me the confidence to do this and saving me money sending to a shop!

How did you open?mine has plastic pins and not screws over the drive.
@@luplewis9837 I had those. He has another video showing how to unpick these slightly so you can lift the casing. If you are careful you can do without too much damage and then replace the cover later
I followed your tutorial. Mine. I did not have to open the bottom. It's a slim too.and it has plastic screws that are permanent. I made a decision to just snap them out.
You have helped a lot. I had to open mine twice though. When I put back the disc thing, it was not well aligned inside. So it did not swallow in any disc. So I opened again and I watched your video like three times over, paused and saw how yours was aligned. It now worked.
By the way I found two discs inside, toy knife, coins, DSTV card... My son is the culprit.
Where do I get the screws? If they are just plastic rivets

I've been able to follow through with your straight foward instructions accordingly but some of the screws are just completely sealed tight and I'm ready to give up :(

I just fixed my PS4 which was noisy. The problem was it had a play card inside the hard drive and now it's working softy. Thanks to this video

Thanks, I came here after my son shoved cards into the dvd slot, while I had it all open gave the lens a clean too, your video was very helpful...only thing was those damn t8 t9 screws were a bit of a pain some of them wouldn't budge

Man thank you for the walk through!!! Definitely didn't realize how much dust was in my PS4. Used an Air Duster can an then cleaned the rollers up an the eye. Now the disk drive works perfectly.

My ps4 slim wasn’t taking in discs. This worked to get the disc back in right after putting it back together and plugging the console in. I thought the problem would be completely fixed so I ejected the disc and attempted to insert and it wouldn’t go in. I had to redo everything in order to insert the disc again. But this does work.

@@juhiss912 if I remember correctly it should be one of the springs that is connected to a white piece that moves when a disc is inserted, I don’t really know how to explain it

At the end don’t forget to reset the drive by pressing eject button for 10 secs
I did everything exactly and made sure everything was exactly in the right place when putting it back together and it still won't take disks. I don't know what else to do. 🙁
Same problem, it's because of the 7.02 system software update.
Just wait a week till 7.03 comes out and it will be ok

Sony's software is that when one thing is broken, it thinks it's corrupt so it will shut down, everything has to cooperate otherwise this will happen.
The update to 7.02 is a harddrive killer to the most user.
That's why sony apolagized on their forum and told us there will be another system update very soon to deal with this.

My little brother did some coins in my ps4.
Soap got spilled down the disk port on mine when i moved because my sister decided to pack soap in the same box as my electronics last minute 😤, everything else works so i figured some soap was on the laser lense. Took it apart and i forgot to eject the disk before taking it apart 🤦🏻♂️. Cleaned the laser and then put the disk back in before assembly since i figured it would save a step and now the ps4 doesn’t seem to know a disk is in and wont eject the old one. Did i mess something up? Or should i take it back apart and remove the disk? Please help! And thanks 🙏🏼

Thank you kind sir. My console works again like it should. I just cleaned the rollers and laser. My console was taking discs but only when it was starting, after that nope, removing disc without any issues but after that it was making weird noises and nothing.

@tronicfix llc have you come across an error coded (SU-42118-6) before? I've read in forums that it seems to be a disk malfunction (even though the disk drive works and is functioning normally). I'm considering replacing the disk drive since this thing is way past any warranties. Will this eliminate the error or will I just be wasting money. I refuse to spend much more money on a system that was working just fine until Sony did their 5.5 update. I think this error is horse crap implemented by Sony to either get people to send in their Playstations for repair or upgrade to their 4k Pro version. Neither of those are an option for me so I'm looking for some feedback. Thanks!
i have this problem with my spare ps4 slim, tried nearly everything apart from replacing the disc drive, i had a similiar problem with my old ps3, spent months looking for fixes on google/youtube, then i saw video about the disc drive, turns out i couldnt update cause the ribbon cable connecting to my discdrive was loose,

Hey my Ps4 has a problem. when we turn it on and there is no disc in there when we try to put a game in it won't take the disc. we have to turn it off then turn it back on. then it starts to make a sound that it wants to get a disc in there thats when we put are game in. so we click the eject button to get the game out. then we have put it in rest mode then turn it back on to put another game inside to play . its getting annoying.
