It think I have the same problem with my ps4 slim. One day I disassembly my ps4, but sadly I broke some touch pin in disc drive motor. So I bought new one and put it back together. It worked but disc didn't spin. So I check that mechanism that covers the disc drive and than disc drive stop taking discs. One day I will repair it. This video is solving one of the reasons why disc drive won't take discs. Anyway, amazing video Phil!
Just performed this exact same repair last week! My theory is that this is usually caused by a failing/damaged BD-ROM drive coupled with a localized event like a power spike or dirty power, for example. By failing/damaged I mean, a BD-ROM drive that is still functional but no longer operating in spec or at full efficiency. This could be an issue somewhere in the laser deck, gunked up gears in the feed/eject assembly, or a number of other things. These issues create additional load that has an adverse effect on the brushless motors, causing them to work harder and longer than normal vs if the drive were still functioning within spec. The additional load causes a brushless motor to draw more current, which generates more waste heat. Waste heat builds up in the windings, and begins demagnetizing the rotor magnet. When that occurs, the motor will begin trying to hit a higher RPM target, which requires more current. Over time, you get these conditions for a “perfect storm” as it were, which is where the localized event comes into play. This is why you can replace the fuse and the same drive will operate just fine in testing and normal use without immediately blowing the fuse again. So, if you end up needing to replace the F6202 fuse, when you’re done, give that BD-ROM drive a little attention and TLC.
Yeah that would make sense, I always theorised that the extra load put onto the circuit by a bad drive could blow the fuse. Typically I'll clean the drive and if it comes back under warranty I explain that the drive has to be replaced, then just bill them for a drive rather than the fuse. Generally I don't get them come back though :)
Good video and information Phil. Thanks for putting this out there for everyone, and those that didn't catch older videos. Good mix of repairs and content creator appearing on camera as well. Stream Deck for the win.
I was having trouble updating ps4 ,it was displaying error SU-30746-0 and SU-42118-6 so I took the hard drive out and i formatted in pc than I stuck in updating process, so with your video i was able to fix my drive and continue updating process. Very very thank you for your videos keep going bro
Stumbled onto this vid.Great video my skill set is not on ur level, but I took apart my ps4 bc i had the blinking bluelight of death. Replaced the power supply was able to get it to boot long enough to recover my games and save states. But pretty sure I need a new drive as well bc my ps4 kept crashing if I tried to connect to the Playstation network and if I did anything other than transfer data to a external drive.
Love the videos, just one thing that maybe can be changed... when you sometimes pop up text on the screen, can you leave it for a bit longer? at the moment it's blink and you miss it.
The desk drive will burn out the fuse when it’s attempting to read a scratched disc. The motor‘s experienced heightened activities which overloads the fuse. Even fingerprint cause this to happen. It overheats under load and dies.
After watching this vid, I’m still trouble shooting. My fuses are good but still no power to drive. Took apart drive and tested motor. Seems to be okay and working. See what else I can find. Any vid for further assistance?
Job well done mate 😁 I'm having trouble with a pro at the minute, keeps running slow then crashing and won't boot up unless I reinstall OS again. I've tried putting a hard drive in it from another working pro but it asked for latest update even though it's already been updated 😑 I've also tried removing and replacing the CMOS battery which hasn't worked either. I'm at a loss, makes no sense that it wouldn't boot from a good hard drive. Please any suggestions you could give me to test would be great, love your videos pal
Hi nice job on the ps4.plz can you fix something different, like cellphones,pc motherboards and xbox 360 controllers, there is almost no clips to fix a dead xbox 360 controllers.keep up the good work i watch your channel everyday.I'am from south africa.I also do electronics as a hobby'
Good video! I've got a other problem than the fuse... The diskdrive makes a ticking noise and won't accept disks. I tried a new diskdrive but exact the same problem. Do u have a idea? It is a ps4 pro model 7016B with a NVA-001 1-981-472-21 motherboard. I really hope u can help me out. I can't use the ps4 anymore, because I can't do the software update..
Same issue with mine. How muxh too fix fuse. My f6202 has blown. Bridged too test it and works. Brought 2nd hand so didnt know if any think else was wrong. Emailed you waiting on reply.
I having the same problem with my PS4 it’s not the slim it’s the original one it’s doing the same thing with the DVD drive not taking the discs in aswell
My ps4 slim (same board) was having disk issues, they would go in, it would make a few shuffle sounds and not work. Occasionally the disk could be put in and work no problems. Then one day I went to turn it on, it beeped once and shut off. It will no longer start up. I even replaced the PSU, still nothing. Is it possible that a ps4 slim wont turn on at all if the disk drive has failed?
I have the same issue in ps4 (normal one touch buttons) i change the mechanism (not help) even with different blu ray motherboard (same) you think can be the same problem like in your video? Thanks sub going :)
Hi Mate, I have same slim ps4 but slightly differant layout (board nubmer 1-982-479-11) same error code firmeware not updating blue ray drive not taking any disk inside , I have check the fuses seemd to all good ..any help please
I just installed the most recent software update 8.52 for my ps4 slim and everything was fine before i did the update after i did the update it showed me an error code SU-42118-6 so i restarted my ps4 and noticed that my gta 5 disc is for some reason not showing up as in my disc drive so i try to eject it and it doesnt work I got my gta 5 disc out manually and did some research and found out for some reason lots of people started to get disc drive failures after the most recent software update and I believe that this software update somehow damaged my fuse because after opening it up i noticed nothing bad about my disc drive and I have no idea how to fix the fuse :(
@@TheCod3r u should try only connecting hdmi port ground pins then put everything back together and use the splitter. basically seeing what pins are actually needed

Thank you sooooo much this just saved my PS4 slim. You have no idea how happy I am right now.

I’ve been looking all over for the fuse amperage so thank you so much for adding that to your video! I appreciate all that you do and share!
The videos look a lot sharper and cleaner! Great job!

Another great video. Excellent fix, well done Phil.
Thank you for the tutorial. I repaired my PS4 the same way like you
Thanks for that fuse rating m8. I appreciate it.
No problem mate, my pleasure :)

Got another fixed with your help sir. Thank you!
Always fun to watch the repairs - that test disc was filthy by the way lol
Buen video saludos from Cusco - Peru
Thank you Very much for the exact ref of the fuse !
Missed you wish your health is good 😉
Nice tip for the rams Phil
In my experience with various PS4’s the eject motor is also fairly often detective, maybe causing the fuse to burn also.
I believe this happens when you force a disc in rather than waiting for the mechanisms to do it's job.
Except ppl like me never use tha disc drive. So i think they were just made cheaply tbh
Another great video mate 👊🏻👍🏻keep up the great work and help you provide mate
well done man thank u i enjoy seeing this videos
Nice fix. Really enjoyed watching 👍⭐
Great video, recently found your channel and subscribed, Dave from Wolverhampton.
Great video Phil.
It would be interesting to see you try to fix the TV! Although, if it's just cracked I guess you can't really fix it lol. Good job on the PS4 bro.
The setups looking great... 👍🏽

Where did you get the f6202 fuse??

Hi mate do you do repairs for anyone apart from CRL? I’ve got 2 PS4 consoles here on low firmware but they need HDMI repair. Let me know thanks
Hola ya he cambiado el fusible pero sigue igual no funciona la lectora no recibe ni espulsa los discos
What if I change the f6202 using jumper cable? Will it work?

Where do I get those fuse?
Aliexpress mate, just search "ps4 fuse" and they'll come up
Where i find the fuse f6201? I dont know what is the volts
Are you taking ps4 with blue ray disk drive issues to fix? If so how much and where do I send it to?
Fantastic 👍🏽
My ps4 won't eject it tries but disk is stuck.
Anyway to remove the disk without opening the console?
Quiet enjoy seeing these videos pop up
I don't think you can eject the disc without opening up the console, I could be wrong though
@@TheCod3r All good. Hopefully it'll last a few more months then can get a ps5
There is a manual disc eject
@@cutty02 Same result. Disk won't budge.
Will this fuse cause the ps4 not to restart after update and instead of restart just shut down?
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I wish you can repair mine

Where about are you located? I believe I have this same issue on my ps4 slim.
I live in Willenhall, West Midlands (UK) but I do offer a mail in service if you use the link in the video description

That scratch on the board is still a bit baffling though. Any thoughts?
It was a bit strange lol
Removal of the rf shield?
I would put my money on the multimeter probes 😊
love ya
My ps4 isn't detective my USB flash drive not connecting my pads as well
I can't unscrew mine. The screws look like they melted some black plastic on top so I cannot unscrew. Yes I bought it brand new
in your model you unscrew the bluray drive from other side, no need to break the rivets

blue ray drive not taking any disk inside , I have check the fuses seemd to all good ..any help please
To be honest if it takes a disc it's very likely got a bad renesas ic mate, it could be the BD7764MUV but other than that it's most likely renesas
a fuse!!! come on, that's it an it took the disc inside amazing!!! I need a hot air station
You could do this with just a soldering iron but it would be tricky 😀

I can hear the jokes about a PS4 refusing an Xbox disc 😂
Haha that's nothing, i once got rid of a ps4 blue light of death with an xbox one heatsink clamp 🤣
😍😍😍😍😍
Great repair but you do know that you need to Disinfect a console after a Fifa game has been in the drive. ;)
people complaining about a few lines on a tv obviously never had it rough, thinking everything should be perfect lol
Haha yeah I've had to watch TV like that before now 😅
@@TheCod3r for years when i was a kid i had a tv where the contrast was way off on it. i rocked that for years until i could afford to buy my own

Multimeter and set it to the mode that goes beep beep I'm a sheep I said beep beep I'm a sheep

so with a non working ps4 hdmi ic then u use a hdmi splitter the display will somehow still work?
Sometimes yeah depending what went wrong with the encoder:)
