Back in 2010. Having literally 0% tech-skills I manage to mod my Wii with some help from a website. I remember booting up this channel in the middle of the night and hearing this tune for the first time. It was like a “congratulations! you made it-song” Oh man. The feeling! First thing I did was playing my japanese copy of Metroid - Other M because I remember hating the english dub in the western release. The import version had english subtitles and the gamecase came with a slipcover that looked like Samus helmet. So when you removed it from the case, you could see Samus without the helmet.
Took me forever to figure it out as a kid but when I finally got it working it was like pure magic. When this song started playing is a memory that I'll never forget honestly
Gotta say, It's impressive just how big the Homebrew scene _was_ for the Wii. Hell, there's still stuff being made for it now, with advancements in bringing back all of the now-closed online features.
Kinda ironic, for a console which was pretty much doomed to be not really hackable Until someone came up with the idea to use Tweezers in GC mode, oh lol
I love how the water theme fits so well to this channel as a whole. When you install the Homebrew Channel, you are greeted with bubbles on a blue background, as if you were above a river. A nice music plays, sounding as bubbly as the banner you see. Then, you press start. The setting changes a little. You have a list of all your homebrews, and behind it, the same blue background full of bubbles. The only difference is, there is no sound. It's because you actually fell into the river you gazed upon. You are now in "dark waters" Why are they so dark, you might ask ? Simply because you hacked your Wii. As such, you are wandering on an endless ocean of possibilities, silenced by your own awe. Hence the name of the song : dark waters.
POV: You spend an hour or so trying to mod your Wii. You set up the process and put all necessary the files and folders on your SD card and then take it out of your computer/laptop once you're done doing that. You go over to your Wii, open the slot on the front of the console and then plug the SD card into it. You boot up the Wii and do all the necessary stuff that needs to be done on it in order to properly mod it. You get done with that, and then finally, this song starts playing: 0:21

The Homebrew channel is a channel where you can mod your Wii even more by downloading programs from a computer and transferring them with an SD card or a USB adapter to your Wii

After the system restarted I saw "The Homebrew Channel" appear, and waiting to be used. I knew there was no turning back now and I would be in a huge rabbit-hole, but when I clicked on "The Homebrew channel" I heard the tune everyone hears when they mod their Wii.
