The fact that you do this part-time is the biggest reason I follow you. I don't want to quit my full-time job with benefits. I want to make part time money from eBay. Keep doing your thing, a lot of us appreciate it!

I don't think resellers talk nearly enough about health insurance, that alone is a very good reason for someone to not quit their fulltime job. A bare minimum health plan for a health middle aged person with a sky high deductible can cost as much as a rent or mortgage payment per month. Many who are self employed can't afford health insurance and have to go without.

      @nopunts9947 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Reselling is a good side hustle BUT if you are making a lot of money from your full time job your marginal tax rate might be so high that it really eats at your reselling profits.

@@johnathin0061892I can attest to the fact that it does in fact cost a mortgage payment...for my family of four healthy folks ours is $1400/mo. That is a no-frills, high deductible, lots of exclusions policy. Basically the old "catastrophic" health coverage the kind we used to have that was super cheap. Only now even that costs a fortune and if anything bad did happen, would still leave us in a tough financial spot. It's awful

When my wife was getting close to retiring, we talked about her trying to resell. We watched a lot of TH-camrs but it was your videos that pushed us to get going. She doesn't want a full time job, just something to do and to bring in some extra money. She is doing great with it. She does the majority of the listing and I take care of shipping before work. Thank you for your videos.

I would guess that a large majority of Ebay resellers are doing it on a part time or less basis. You are likely smack dab in the middle of most in terms of volume and do a fantastic job showcasing the basics of listing and what to expect in terms of a realistic return on your time and money. Appreciate your honest and in depth analysis on a weekly basis.

I have been selling a bunch of vintage rock T-shirts (70s--90s) and this presented us with the dilemma to clean or not. Many collectors prefer they not be washed even if they have been worn or have stains. Some may keep the shirt as-is and others just want to be sure it is cleaned "properly" using whatever special methods they use. So we just didn't wash any of them and stated so in the listing for the reason just described. Never ran into a problem with eBay or customers with this so far and it has been several years.

Thank you for the update regarding the used clothing policy. I wasn’t aware of that language change. You are the first You Tube Reseller who has addressed the policy without drama or misinformation. I’ve always said properly cleaned is open to interpretation. It can mean machine laundered, hand soaked, stain treated, steamed, laid out in the sun ( an amazing natural disinfectant btw), or pounded with rocks (I jest). The people who got worked up “ You need to wash your items! It’s an eBay policy!! 🙄🙄
Again, thanks for the update and common sense approach.

Great video! I do have a question....I used to have an eBay shop, established about 400 reviews, but they had just changed the payout systems so I closed up shop. Looking to get back into it and love that I found your channel. My question, do you or maybe your followers could comment, feel that a shop selling a niche can be more attractive and successful than a "garage sale" style shop? From my perspective, sometimes I trust a seller who could understand the importance of listing accuracy or packaging the items (collectibles and rare trading cards). Thanks for everyone's kind comments.

Regarding getting rid of inventory versus lowering the price, I admit, I sometimes make emotional decisions. If I overpaid for an item, and it’s not selling, I will sometimes get rid of it rather than feeling that annoyance every time I look at it.

Justin, fyi Brushpopper shirts have a coating on the fabric you can feel on the inside of the shirt, it is to make them water resistant and wind resistant. They were not necessarily heavier, they just had a light coating that felt rubberized. They became popular in the early 90's, and people like me complained because they did not breathe well. The late 90's Wrangler came out with a Brushpopper Light that was to address this issue, I didn't feel it did; however, it was lighter than the original Brushpopper.

Justin, what a great response to explain how you make a nice addition to your family income working part time. I have been watching some of the BIG SELLERS. I find their stories quite puzzling. Some sell CR*P, SELL item for $3.00 and charge $8.00 shipping - and start the video with arms loaded down with “ TODAYS SALES” never saying than most were under $5. I think a lot of bravo is for you tube and full of flaws.. You channel is wonderful. I have sold for almost 20 years, but took 4 years off. I started again in July 2024 and have grossed $5350 in 7 weeks. IT IS SO MUCH EASIER than in the early days. Your opinion would be interesting.

I usually resort/default to Wild Turkey 101 as an anti inflammatory though I doubt it pairs well with quiche.
Be a Pro... don't steal pics especially if your pics are shitty, then using pro quality will really make yours look even worse. I can still remember in Y2K when other Sellers used to steal my pics cause they had no digital camera and how that pissed me off. Goodwill is not run well, worked there. Ive seen what goes on behind the scene and it’s not good. A lot of donations get trashed that don’t sell after a while, well no crap seeing the price tags still on them wanting way too much when you could just go buy new for same price or cheaper. Also they are “for the disabled” yeah we had one guy who was disabled and plant manager kept having the production manager write him up for not hitting production numbers. They even told him if I write him up one more time he could be terminated, his reply “good”. He also got someone fired for catching him doing it with an employee in a back room.

hey justin - here's an odd one...i sold a knife for $109 the other day - it is a soft cheese knife, with large holes in the blade - is a Finnish design and part of a set - the other piece in the set is a cheese slicer for hard cheese. i knew when i saw it at goodwill that it was special/different - paid $3! the only other comp on ebay is for the full set - marked at - get this - one million dollars. this is not me thinking i have a 500k knife! so first question is - why does ebay allow this nonsense? i actually made an offer of .99 - it wasn't accepted..
so fast forward to my sale - a woman from seattle bought it, paid for it late last friday, so i have until monday to put it in the mail. next i get an email asking if i could kindly ship it to sausalito, instead of seattle? and to please let her know quickly. so i thought about it - there was no difference in shipping price - and thought, sure, i could do this - and wrote her back that i would, and it would go in the mail monday. then i started to fester, thinking, something is not right here - got in touch with the ebay online community, explained what had happened, and i was told i would not have seller protection if i sent the knife to the different address. i emailed her twice telling her this and that i wouldn't be able to ship to sausalito - no response. so first thing this morning, i sent her a message telling her i refunded her money, and if she still wants it - please enter the correct address.
i just can't help thinking it has something to do with that dang million dollar knife that is the same as mine! have a look - if you enter 'hackman cheese knife', you'll see this "amazing set"... ultimately my question is - why does ebay allow this? thank you!

Meaning, you list something either intentionally or unintentionally too high, you get an offer much lower, the item has say 5 people watching and then you start to lower the price still above the low offer you received to then pressure that lower offer to buy higher or to get one of the other watchers to swoop in and buy it out from under the low offer?

About washing clothing: Of course eBay expects clothing to be clean, however smells cannot be proven or photographed, and so it's a complaint that can feel suspicious.
I know I don't have a really keen sense of smell anymore, and have found that many buyers DO so it's not worth the risk to assume anything. So even when it appears clean, I wash all clothing that isn't new with tags.
If I DID have a super keen sense of smell or was prone to allergies, I would not risk buying used clothing. Yet some do and then complain after they got huge discounts?
When items are new with tags (or dry clean only) I air them outdoors or steam them, yet get complaints now and then anyway, so have come to feel uneasy about this. I've had nasty negative feedback due to smell twice among hundreds of clothing sales and had no idea. Was it me or did the buyer make it up? I will never know.

    Hey Justin,
I have been reselling videogames, consoles & collectibles for about 5/6 months and it has been great! After putting in so much of my time and basically giving up my summer holiday, I make thousands of euros per month now and I will almost quit my side job. Most of my sales are on Vinted atm and I want to make sure that my Vinted page goes extremely well before I put focus on a second app/website like eBay.
My question to you is: What makes eBay stand out from other websites like Vinted? On Vinted, my buyers pay the shipping costs and there are zero fees involved. I only have to print out the shipping label (or have somebody scan it) and drop off my package. It seems to me like eBay is a bit more of a hassle. But maybe I am completely wrong! :)
I watch your videos every week, you often have very useful tips, even for non-eBay resellers. Thanks and have a great day!

Hi Alex! Yes, I ship through eBay's international shipping program. And I use a platform I created called Flipwise: flipwise.app -- it is available for sellers in Australia, too.
      Thanks!

Hello Justin, and everyone! I'm so frustrated about an issue with ebay's seller hub, and I'm wondering if any of you are experiencing similar issues. The listings page of the seller hub is not working properly, and many of the options are either grayed out, or don't work. Even the search feature isn't working. I've called ebay every day this week, and there is no resolution. They continue to say that some people are reporting this issue, but there is not timeline on when it will be fixed. Are others seeing this issue too?

I started part time as well and just kept building my store while I worked full time. Once I was making the same on eBay yearly as my yearly full time income I decided to leave my full time job. But my job was toxic so it was an easy decision for me lol. Honestly I work a lot less hours reselling than I did a full time job so it’s totally worth it. I recommend everyone resell on any level, the extra income no matter the amount can be life changing for most. ❤

With a clothing item, should the size given in the title reflect actual measurements, or the tag size? I figure that the tag size is the tag size, and the only reason to put actual measurements in the title is if the size tag is missing. I've routinely put the tag size in the title, then actual measurements using a tape measure in the description. I've just received negative feedback, and clearly the buyer had not read the description. I guess I could add something like "fits small" or "fits big" in the description.

Hey Justin. I have heard other eBay resellers say to not list North Face or Patagonia as NWT because you can get a vero because these two companies have lifetime guarantees on some/most items and don’t like resellers reselling new things because the warranty is voided out if you didn’t purchase from that company. Just wondered what you thought of this since I saw you were selling Patagonia new.

I've been on Ebay, selling my kids clothes as they grow out of them, for probably 15 years. Since most of those items were purchased retail at original or sale prices, there isn't really any "profit" made. Now I'm starting the thrifting and reselling business. Should I start a new store since I have roughly 75 listings of old items leftover from kiddos stuff? Or do I combine everything to keep my seller history and not have a brand new store with no sales/reviews/history? And if I start using Flipwise, do I worry about estimating the COG for the older items I have listed? Appreciate any feedback.

I have a set of Mega Pro Builder blocks in original packaging that were never opened. I bought them 27 years ago for a family member. They returned them to me to sell on Ebay. Once I send them and the box is opened, what happens if they are returned. It will no longer be in new condition and will be devalued. If this happens what is the best way to go about this?

Hi Justin, Sandra here from Australia. Really appreciate the effort you put into your videos. I have a small list of questions which I’m sure you’ve answered in the past but wanted to see if you could reiterate them. First question: sending offers should you wait or should you do it straight away. I know personally if I’ve looked at something and I receive an offer five minutes later, with a discount on it I feel a little bit annoyed and I’m wondering whether my customers would as well. Now I don’t purchase anything straight away as I know I will get an offer within the next 24 hours. Second question: when items are due to be relisted, is it worth ending them and selling similar. What are the advantages? Third question leaving reviews for my buyers. I haven’t tended to do that at this stage, but does it help in regards to the algorithm for ebay to see action on my eBay site. Thank you for your time.

Love ur bankers lamp. Want one of those. You're doing way better than me man but I think my overhead etc and several other of my strategies is much lower. My local sourcing is very limited I actually travel quite far and get what I can when I get there but it has always increased and never decreased so for my setup the turtle still profits.
Bins has fresh inventory too I believe from local donations, sometimes it goes right in rather than to the store.
That's interesting never knew that. Maybe they realized all the money they were making on heavily stainrd clothes that people still want.

I got a giant binder full of pokenon cards from a family member. I want to sell them individually, but I am not a tcg seller. I would just like to sell the cards I have. On my eBay I sell a lot of clothing and cds, but I also will list anything else i have to sell in that same shop. Would you recommend setting up a second store just for the Pokémon cards to save listing allotments and to keep my store looking looking clean for customers, or would you say its not that big of a deal? And do you know where on ebay I would go to link a second store to my original account? Thank you

Hey Justin! Love your channel! My wife and I just made our first ebay sale yesterday (Yay!) and when I went to the post office this morning to ship it they directed me to the self-service kiosk to scan my shipping label and drop it off.
Everything seemed to work okay, but I have notice that some ebay sellers advise against using the kiosks because it doesn't prove official acceptance by the USPS and that you should only hand your items directly to the person at the counter.
I was wondering what your opinion was about using the kiosks. Good idea? Bad? Indifferent? Thanks!

Hey Chef JR, I have a couple questions about Flipwise: When you were sharing your best VHS sales, could Flipwise have accepted a search string like “VHS -VCR” or similar to exclude the devices? Also come tax time, what report do you present to your accountant to use for preparation? Thank you very much, we love your videos!

One of the issues with Goodwill is their sub-minimum wage, free and subsidized labor, all of which is subsidized directly or indirectly by the taxpayer. On top of that, their dirt cheap/free labor is used to sell online and compete with businesses like ours (that I have a MAJOR issue with.) I am all for job training, but it is not right I am forced to subsidize my competition.

Hi Justin, any advice on how to list an item from a nice European brand that (apparently) no one in the US has ever heard of? I bought a kind of expensive leather handbag on vacation in Europe, but when I got home I decided it's not really my style. It has been listed on eBay for several months, but no one has even looked at it. I have experimented with a variety of price points, changed key words in the title, increased the number of photographs, and ended and relisted. I am also promoting the handbag at eBay's suggested rate of 10%. Is there anything else I should try? The only thing I haven't done is open the listing up to international sales. I know you are in favor of selling internationally, but I am hesitant to do that after having a bad experience shipping to an APO. Maybe that was just a one-off and I'm just gun shy now. Anyway, thanks for your content and the occasional deadpan sarcasm, it's all much appreciated.

In Flipwise, how do you give a vaule to items from bulk buy? I purchase storage units, and some have so many items its hard to know what value to give them. I have a unit that i paid $50 for but has 100s of items.

    • @justinresells
      @justinresells  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I give all items in a bulk buy a unique Purchase Location (something like "Storage Unit #123") and then give each item a share of the cost making sure it adds up to the total spent. Sometimes I split the total cost across all units evenly, and other times I give a weighted cost based on the value.

Hey Justin, been watching for a bit but I had 2 questions
Are there any categories you know are money makers, but you avoid because your knowledge isn't there or it doesn't appeal to you?
What kind of backgrounds do you think are best product photography. I've wood grain backgrounds, white, off-white, In a living room, on a table, etc. I've seen some arguments that say that there is an inverse of taking more professional photos making your items feel less "authentic".
I'd love to hear your opinions. Thank you!

If you are collecting regular social security benefits, as retired, there is an income limit on how much you can make before your monthly SS is reduced. If you are collecting other types of Social Security, your value of assets are limited. SS administration has been sending bills for pay back to some people that have been "overpaid" and reducing payments until amounts are paid back. If you are collecting any govt benefits, be advised that your income is limited.

I've noticed some of the most 'successful' (i.e. Big) eBayers are currently out of business or having to drastically downsize their operations and/or assets. I'm not in it to get rich quick or live high on the hog. I just want sustainability with steady growth. Fortunately for me I don't have a family to support because mine are all grown and doing their own thing.

Question; I know that you promote at 2% all of your items and that you continually list new items daily to keep your store stocked, but do you have a markdown or sale schedule that you follow for older inventory or do you end/relist with price drops for old inventory or do you just leave it be and wait for it to sell? I have a small store and want a lsrger store, I am just afraid of items sitting around for 2 years.
