mcq's are more tougher than subjective question because if your answer is wrong you will get -1 negative marking but in subjective question if the answer is wrong and some part is correct then you will get some marks

Hey bro, I would say that subjective exams r equally as imp as objective because they both have pros n cons, there should be 2 exams taking place, 1 ob n 1 sub, they should add -ve marking to sub exams too.

I guess mcqs are the best
    1) Person who doesn't have a good handwriting or can't write cursive will have nothing to fear.
    2) Many student who have natural good handwriting always gets an unfair advantage which isn't correct because exams are about knowledge not beauty.
    3) You have a single answer it can be either correct or wrong, so the teacher can't show partiality when he/she is in bad mood while checking the paper.

@@simonpeter4563 I think it's quite easy to make students draw the diagram for a chapter like optics by giving the question in the form of words (it's hard to visualise but once you draw it on a piece of paper the question gets simplified by quite a bit).
For Biology, you can always ask students to correctly name and state the functions of a given organ/gland etc by drawing a diagram and pointing to one.
This ensures that students study the entire subject even in an MCQ format.

I am a NEET aspirant and i think tukka lagana don't really matter much bcoz in order to get a medical college i have to do more than 85% questions correctly and random guess will never gonna work in that situation. So in this case i think mcq's are a good option also timing is a big factor we have to solve every question under a minute. This makes it even more difficult and actually if u watch those videos u will see them clarifying the consequences of tukka. Also good teachers don't teach that they teach to make calculated guess .
Also NEET has all conceptual subjects so mcq format is easy to test the preperation.

Students who have given JEE advanced, really love the MCQs(single answer correct) so much, it's really a relief sometimes.
JEE advanced really have the tricks of its own, like the MSQs(multiple correct options), numerical answer, match the following with multiple correct answers. Also with -2 negative marking is a nighmare if you are not thoroughly prepared. Following are the probabiliy of Tukkas (flukes) getting correct:
    1. MCQs: 1/4
    2. Integer(0-9): 1/10
    3. MSQs: 1/15 (4 options)
    4. Numerical type(includes decimal): 1/Infinity ~ 0
Edit: Neither the paper pattern nor the total marks or marks distribution are not known beforehand , which makes this exam one of the most exciting exams in the world.

JEE-Advanced is altogether on different league because in that exam One or more options can be correct, in some questions no option is available, you have to put integer or numerical value. But for sure it doesn't tell the interest of students. A student might be a MCQ-Solver but he has to manage three subjects at age of 17-19 and he might end up loosing interest in two and hence loosing the exam rank. But we don't have other option for entrance of IITs.

Taking one of the most popular competitive exams of India like JEE MAIN and NEET, each one of them have -1 on the wrong answer entered, and a similar pattern is observed in CUET
Talking about the IIT Entrance Test, i.e. JEE Advanced, that is something on a whole new level, not just because of its difficulty level but of its unique pattern as it contains MCQ's, matrix match, matching, stem based ques., matching, more than one correct etc.

    Like in 2022 JEE Advanced
It had three sections in paper 1

Numeric had +3 for correct one 0 for incorrect
Then single correct questions had +3,-1 scheme but the options were damn well placed
    Then the best ones
    Multi Correct Questions
    +4, - 2
So basically let's say one question has 4 options so one option could be correct or might be 2 correct or 3 correct or all 4 could be correct
    Wrong answer = - 2

    Some points to notice...
The real story and play and politics involved in NEET can be understood by a passed out student.
Pros - in an MCQ pattern exam, you would see that per question time is around 1 min.
    1. MCQ pattern can really boost a students' ability to solve a question within a specific time.
    2. MCQ pattern exams created the need for students and teachers to create short cuts for long questions. Some short tricks are really helpful as they enhance concept (for example - solving the question with reference to accelerating body).
    3. MCQ pattern exams remove partiality which is a very important factor. Every student knows that subjective exams me partiality hoti hai. Teachers give more marks to fav students and fail the students they dislike.
    4. MCQ pattern wale questions me multiple concepts ek saath apply ho sakte hai.
    5. Security bahut zyada hai MCQ me. Especially when the exam is of national level

    • @lllllllllll1164
      @lllllllllll1164 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cons
      1. It's too much of a mental pressure to sit in a MCQ based exam. A student has to complete the paper within time, bubble every answer correctly at the right place, and make different strategies. So hardwork is required.
      2. Students lose the ability of thinking. If a new type of question comes, it becomes difficult even for top students to deal with it.
      3. Language of questions in MCQ based exams is sometimes too difficult making the answer ambiguous. This creates confusion and pressure in a students' mind

This will greatly reduce partiality and bias shown by professors when correcting subjective type questions that include long essays, short answers, etc. Not everyone will have the handwriting or writing skills that will satisfy all the examiners and thus resulting in loss of marks even for correct answers. It is a big loss of time for the students to try revaluation as its only possible through a High Court case against their university and the same bias can happen again.
Every time, many students file case in the court for getting revaluation for their failed papers. Revaluation results are always late and this in turn prevents the students from preparing for the upcoming exams properly. This system must change in India.
In the case of MBBS yearly exams, I totally agree with having it replaced with MCQs for the future batches as there will less bias or partiality as well as human errors. MCQs will test their clinical knowledge and problem solving skills for patient treatment rather than their memory power for mugging up big essays.

I have been solving mcqs since 6 years now. 2 years preparation and 4 years graduation. We used to had our question paper in mcqs forms only. Yes mcqs pattern while in graduation did prepare me for the competitive exams ahead but as people say that "tukka hi toh marna hota hai" it does't work probably and with negative marking it's nearly impossible, one has to learn every detail of a topic because the question can be from anywhere, not like subjective question papers where questions do get repeated many times and students get instructed about some important questions already. Yes it does help in assessing deep knowledge but it has some disadvantages too, we are not able to think and write creatively.

The idea that MCQ papers do not determine the conceptual clarity was right on the mark. For jobs like teaching, this is especially the case. Many of us label some of our teachers as "boring" because we simply fail to understand what they are teaching. That doesn't mean that the teacher doesn't have any knowledge. It simply means that they do have knowledge they just don't know how to impart it. And this is where MCQ papers fail to evaluate the most important aspect of teaching. Covering more syllabus isn't the same as understanding the whole syllabus.

The thing is, MCQs are seen as easier form of assessment than subjective by the students, cuz of the different trick videos and most importantly, mostly, teachers spend minimal to no time on mcq tests (so that they can point out mistakes) as the results are calculated by computers and sometimes in schools students of other classes are asked to check the mcq papers. But nationally, it can be seen as asking students to learn to solve questions of some particular patterns which they are going to anyway forget by the first year of their college.

As a student who is preparing for NEET as well as Board I will Prefer MCQ type questions because there's no Chances of partiality there like in boards. In MCQ type if you don't know the Concept of a Topic which is asked in exam there's a high chance that you will loose marks (4/5) but in Writing type if you know some things about that Toipc(even your Concept not clear) you will surely get marks.

Mcq's are lot better than subjective, where we have to fkin cram learn the whole thing .
For example business studies that book used to give me anxiety when I would open it . And being left with no option I have to read each paragraph lot of times to learn the stuff for subjective exams .
But if the test was objective I just had to understand the concept and didn't read a single para fkin 100 times .
If I got lost by any word the options in mcqs makes me remind that hard word .

I am a History Student , completed my graduation from Delhi University this year. I appeared for CUET PG for M.A. History this year, but it was more like a SSC CGL exam MCQ paper. As you know History can be interpreted in many ways, & so the answers might be more than 1 for the same question... It's never clear like 2+2=4 ... it's never in social sciences, not in History as well. There is high probability that a student who mug ups very well becomes topper. For Masters Level there should be written exam, so that depth of knowledge can be checked.

In my opinion MCQs are better, i am a literature student and a lot students get good marks only because their hand writing was good and they had written more paragraphs(only shitty and non sense). Girls usually get advantage in written exams compared to boys.

In theory descriptive paper is far better bcz it tests the candidate in wide range. But practically in country like India where millions of people sit for a single examination, MCQ format is best with negative marking bcz it ends partiality done by copy checkers in descriptive exams. Yes to minimise tukka culture in MCQ format there needs to be at least 0.5 negative marks instead of 0.25 or 1/3 marks for wrong answers when 1 marks is given for right answers

In exams mind can remember the answer if gets a glimpse of it but in writing you must have grasped it because many a times we feel that "I had learnt it but cannot remember it right now". And I think that is important even though it has it's own advantages.

i think practical and oral based exams should happen more at school level which can keep all things at check such as thought process, creativity and understanding of the students. Although this is not possible in competitive exams but if all of this happens till class 12th, students will be actually free from rote learning and have a clear understanding of all the topics which will shape up their mind in the right way instead of cramming up all the things

    • @kdjoshi726
      @kdjoshi726 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This should actually happen both at school-level & entrance level exams. Practical exams are often hard since you actually have to operate things on your own. They also give you marks based on your handling technique & if you're getting proper results or not. Both filtering & assessment of the students can be seen here. Tho yes there are chances of partiality by teachers too so this is why in entrances company people themselves should examine the exams here.

The problem is not having mcqs in entrance tests. The problem is having negative marking, very less amount of time to solve those questions, and having more than 1,2,3 options correct in the paper which makes it very very difficult. Also conducting one single paper consisting of many subjects on one single day for a couple hours instead of having seperate paper for seperate subject and having one single test performance determine your college. That is what makes entrance tests a big headache. 🙁

    • @_ashmason007
      @_ashmason007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Also your status quo determining your performance. The materials required for these exams are expensive, you definitely need to join a coaching which we all know are insanely expensive, cater only towards the needs of high ranking students and don't really care about the average sincere middle class kid. And lastly, a very vast , long syllabus. Which requires you to memorize insane amounts of ridiculous data + have a deep understanding of concepts that other countries have in their undergraduate course in college. Along with this study to get good marks for your boards as well.
It's not like this cycle of work stops when you enter college. Then you have internships + activities + grades. It is all very tiring.

This year in JEE Advanced Paper 1, only 5/18 questions were solved by more than 10% students that too only 1/18 by 29% (highest) (in mathematics)

  • @anubhavforall
    @anubhavforall 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

I feel the subjective answers toggle a fair more value than MCQs.
I remember during school days my teachers congratulated me, they felt so proud of me giving an extra effort in making every answer, every argument a quality one, having richness in its narrative.
As such I always wished to know and touch every aspect of the topic. I loved learning.
When I was introduced to 11th , the teachers would simply teach in a way considering that the students have already learnt the topic in the 'coaching' and they were right!
75 percent of the class was in JEE / NEET Coachings and rest followed lately. For me , I had a rough patch initially but still I tried to adjust.
In The subject of CS, since it was not a JEE subject , almost my entire class failed. Not me though, I got 46/50.
The point is that I got that I am going to deal with an imperfect model of education.
My boards were then, pretty fine. But in JEE, ofcourse, it backfired.
I appreciate the concept behind MCQ, the percentile system.
But I feel , I am not a product in a bulk batch, supposed to be 'filtered' in an exam. I saw exams as a way to align the students with their learning. Not to just throw almost all of them.
Anyways, I still know and I am trying to carve out valuable solutions I can give in for the society. I never wished for IITs for placements, I sought them for learning. But you know.
I will learn, I will create great solutions, maybe I will also go to IIT as well. They are a gem there's no doubt 🌻❤️

As someone who has given a few professional software certification exams, I can say with confidence that good MCQs can be constructed which demand and demonstrate analytical thinking and deep understanding. Usually the question has multiple paragraphs, and/or a diagram and has more marks than simpler questions.
There are also progressive scoring exams wherein the questions get tougher or easier if you successively answer the previous ones right or wrong, respectively. That is something you should have covered in this video.
For example, tests for advanced certifications in Oracle database, Offensive Security (ethical hacking) are both hard and progressive. They also run for many hours or even days.
The problem really is with paper format MCQs for large populations (rejection tests) conducted over the same 2-3 hour timespan. That is where the weaknesses of the format are amplified.

I have given and cleared multiple MCQ exams till now. These exams hardly test anything beyond the basics. Subjective exams will always be better suited to test the actual ability of the students. However, for filtering through a large number of students, the best system IMO is that of JEE Advanced, where the candidates have to do multiple types of questions, single correct MCQ, multiple correct MCQ, fill in the blanks and integer type questions. These can be checked easily via computers, and overcome some of the disadvantages of MCQs elegantly.

I've cleared neet and going to study mbbs. And can proudly say MCQ with negative marking is the best way to filter out. Ever after that there is thousand of students within same marks (rank decided based on age, individual subject score).
Imagine that student with 15001 rank, where closing rank is 15000. MCQ will help clearly define who'll get seat in this kind of borderline case.
And obviously tukka doesn't work in MCQ. you might bring qualifying marks, but never get a seat

Management and banking exams now have 5 choices with negative marking, which discourages guessing further.

A combination of majority MCQs and some descriptive is the best imo! 💯

MCQs are now taken over by MSQs and NATs 😢 especially in GATE

I am ICSE 10th grader. Our new exam pattern contains MCQ's as well as Subjective type in all subjects. Take the example of our English Language Exam, at first we had all subjective type like essays, letters, email and notice, comprehension and then all the grammer part was in MCQ.
This MCQ's system is quite good from my experience but relatively harder than normal one mark question. It is harder because the distractors are somethimes so good that they make us confuse on our knowledge. It is good because in subjects like mathematics, it is less time consuming.

It's easy to do cheating in MCQs
I literally scored more than the topper of my class without even Studying well(10th board, 2022 batch)
