    This series has been criminally underrepresented in the action figure world. This wasn't some flash in pan series it ran three years. One of my favorites growing up.

    The backdrop in the 2-pack is nice. It also seems to be made so it can work as a DM screen, which is a cute thematic touch. I mean, you're getting the dice with the figures anyway, so may as well throw that in too.

    • @Cameroo

      I only wish both sides folded out from the middle instead of being an accordion fold. It's awkward to use as both a backdrop and a DM screen.

    With you, Robo. These figures have been on my wishlist for over 40 years. I’ve been waiting for these figures ever since little me would wake up early on Saturday morning to watch cartoons. I am settling, but glad I have these for my collection. A Tiamat would be great, but I settle once again for Erik, Shiela, and Presto to finish the set.

  • @Fuzzy_Barbarian
    @Fuzzy_Barbarian ปีที่แล้ว +34

    The stiff articulation is pretty disappointing given where we're at with action figure technology, while the colours not matching is just... random. These definitely feel like the type of figures you get just because you want to represent these characters on a shelf and these are the only options. It's not like anyone else is gonna get the license.

    • @Fuzzy_Barbarian
      @Fuzzy_Barbarian ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@floorboss And I also disagree. Ultimates are not mass retail, the company making them is smaller, they have more paint, and they come with a lot more accessories. If you're comparing these figures to those, then yes, cheaper, with all those qualifiers. But compare them to Bandai's Anime Heroes, Jada Toys' figures or McFarlane's DC Multiverse, things that it's actually sensible to compare them to, and they're not so reasonably priced anymore.
      I can get liking the articulation because it's dated and thus ties in with when the cartoon was on, but that's an excuse more than anything. My SHF Kamen Rider 1 is based on a show from 1971; he poses like a figure from the 2020s, because that's when he was made. Hank can't even fire his own bow, which they included with the figure intending to have him fire it. That alone shows that the articulation is a flaw, even if you like the flaw.

    Thanks for including the prices again. Maybe because these are animation, they look cheaper or at least less work involved - texture and paint wash. I think they should only be $17 - $20 at most. Hank should have butterfly joints for bow action.
    But more importantly, they should be cloth good if they are charging regular prices. Venger and Dungeon Master definitely need to be cloth goods. If they did cloth Darth Maul at 3.75” , they can do the same for bigger figure.
    Love the cartoon, but will wait for clearance to even decide if they are worth it.

    I really like them. I knew about the problems and threw them in hot water when I got them and I look forward to the rest. But the NECA figures decimate these in quality and as updates of those classic LJN figures. I would not be surprised to see the LJN figures show up in the Hasbro line considering the NECA figures are such a weird scale, they’re massive! But these, like you I’ve been waiting 40 years on these and the LJN figures were my favorite toys as a kid so I really hope to have them in this series as well to go with these guys. I’m hoping we also get the Nightmare for Venger and some of his Orc and Lizardman minions and some Skeleton warriors.
    That “cheap” look some are commenting on? They’re representing a cartoon. If they cell shaded them they’d look like crap and a wash would make them look way off the animation style guides too. They look like a 3D cartoon. I love them.

A few days later, I was quite annoyed and asked what the hell are they talking about?
    I had actually thought they were memorizing secret Army codes or something when they patiently explained to me what they were talking about.
    Being a fan since because the last set of D&D action figures that came out were from LJN in which I had the "Northlord" which I thought was cool but what did I know. This would make good Robo customizing. He has the base figures, but have people do real cloth goods to make them more posable. But at $25, this is what Hasbro should have done. If they are plastic cones, McFarlane can do them for $20.

    Awww, pure nostalgia right there ! Did those kids ever get back home lol. How bout heat and pop hanks arms and trim his sleeves ? Might help with range for the ranger ( see what I did there). Fun review as always.

      There is a unfinished episode (which was eventually completed thanks to the fans, using the original script) that would have served as the series finale. Venger is turned back to the side of good, and each of the children are given the choice between returning home, or travelling to a different world where their help as heroes is also needed. It ends there, allowing the viewers to imagine what decision they would make.

    I get they went in this direction to be faithful to the cartoon aesthetic, but I wish someone would put out some super detailed versions so they fit in with NECA's Warduke figure.

    And you can supplement them with Warduke and the Paladin who did pop up in the cartoon.

    Yo Robo your definitely taking me back man with these figures. There is something not exactly right with Hank's head sculpt. Is it me or does his head looks a little swollen. I could be wrong here. The whole line loos great. Bobby is the best in the wave in my opinion. Like the uni and dungeon master impressions. Awesome review!

    Since I’m very good now with my NECA Warduke, I need Hasbro to come out with a wave 3: A bullywug (frog grunt with turtle shell), Shadow Demon, and Dekion (skull knight from some episode)

    I feel like some of the disconnect between the animation art-style and the figures might also just be down to taking these 2-D cartoon characters, and rendering them into 3 dimensions, some things aren't gonna translate smoothly.

    What i dont get is hasbro uses fabric with most of there starwars fig. But they dont use it in any other line they have. Witch venger really needed, and i would think it me a bit cheeper the all that plastic. And i was so excited for him too.

    I agree with your reviews. I picked up Bobby and Uni because they came closest to how their characters looked, but I am generally disappointed. Finally releasing these after forty years and this is the execution? Really Hasbro?

    The knees on all pinless figures are different colors. It's just like that. Look at marvel legends. Especially dormammu and red skull.

    With the differences of the sculpts, and the obvious old sculpts, it makes me wonder if there was a new show in the works. They abandoned it, and decided to make the figures anyway.

      No way the male characters would've remained white and/or male these days, so I doubt there was a new toon in the works.
