as a 3.5e player the reason he has natural attacks and such high strength is because half-fiend was a template that could be added to creatures or characters that always gave them a pair of claws and a bite as well as a large boost in strength.

Some of us have seen the Renault commercial, which is a pretty good indication.

I decided a long while ago that "The Realm" is a demi-plane. Which explains how so many people and creatures can come and go between it and many other worlds yet no one can leave that the demi-plane wants to keep. They couldn't go home because Dungeon Master needed them there. Which is why he pulled them into his demi-plane to begin with.

Crackpot theory but I think it was created by Dungeon Master and Tiamat entered it while trying to make her own demi-plane from Avernus so that she could have a domain away from the eyes of Asmodeus and ended up catching the attention of The Nameless One.

Maybe created by the Dungeon Master to contain the influence of the Nameless One? Or something set up like a sort of drain catch at a weak point in the fabric of the multiverse, to catch beings trying to travel to new planes? Might explain why Tiamat and an avatar of Lolth are there

    • @temmy9
      @temmy9 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@martinv5538 well , he is the emperor of evil. He was defeated in an earlier age and locked into a prison bound by three keys, each representing an alignment of evil, and each being a very powerful artifact. Once the keys are brought together, he would be freed. In the gord the rogue books, a key is discovered. This starts a chain of events that leads to war across the cosmos as various powers fight over the artifacts. The powers of good and balance align with chaotic evil, because chaotic evil does not want to release tharizdun and are, ironically the only ones who can be trusted to keep the keys, as they are already evil and corrupt and thier chaotic nature will prevent any one demon from unifying the keys.
Tharizdun is the most powerful entity, possibly only truly matched by the All and Nothing, Lord of Entropy, and the masters of time and necessity.

A lot of people think that the movie Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves is the first D&D media that the D&D cartoon show protagonists Hank, Eric, Presto, Diana, Shiela and Bobby have appeared in since the cancellation of the show, but the truth is, they appeared in a single D&D comic book published by TSR, Inc in January 1996 called "The Grand Tour", and in that comic book, Presto is taken on a brief time travelling tour with Elminster Aumar. And in the game Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, there are some portraits of the kids somewhere in Waukeen's Promenade in Athkatla that hint that the artist of the portraits believe that they have been killed by the Forgotten Realms variant of Tiamat. Since they appear in Honor Among Thieves, which is set in the same decade as Baldur's Gate 3 and more than 100 years after The Grand Tour and Baldur's Gate 2, it's obvious now that they are still alive, and most likely used a time travel spell Presto learned from Elminster to escape Tiamat.

Couldn't get on time to properly watch, so the plot always eluded me, but for some reason Venger's design really stood out to me to the point that I was able to remember his bloody name throughout the years without really knowing anything else about him.
My jaw literally dropped when I saw him on the cover of a new book, and I was like "No fucking way they're bringing him into the game!".
I never saw that Warduke guy (probably because I couldn't watch the show consistently), so I thought this was some sort of a generic death knight guy with some cool visuals.

Venger's 3e stat block has edition-specific reasons for its eccentricities.
3e was interested in a form of balance wich had the monsters and the player characters built using the same rules, thus making all monsters potentially playable.
Venger is canonically a half-fiend (as a consequence of his dark bargain). Half-fiend is a "template", a 3e mechanic where you overlay a fixed set of abilities onto an existing creature. Half-fiend adds bite and claw attacks, thus Venger has them.
Arcane Fire is a class feature for Venger's prestige class: Archmage. Prestige classes were character classes which could not be taken at 1st level and did not go all the way to 20th level. To enter a prestige class, a character would have to first meet specified requirements such as having certain skills or feats.
Although the Warlock was introduced more than a year before the ASH, it was considered an underpowered class in its initial form. It, ironically, gained a cult popularity later because of its evocative lore. Wizards probably wanted to stick to core rulebook material for the ASH splat book.
Instead of a sorcerous half-fiend, the better 3e build for Venter would have been Warlock / Acolyte of the Skin (both from Complete Arcane).

A last point. Even if the kids suceeding to turn Venger human was canon, there are still villains to fight. Tiamat isn't just Venger's enemy, but is also extremely hostile to the kids, and pretty much everything and everyone else.
She attacks indiscrimiately without cause or provocation.
There's also Venger's minions in the Underdark. They are in no way faithful to him and only serve under duress. In fact, some dvergar openly challenge Venger when The Nameless One forces Venger, Dungeon Master, and the kids to retreat to the Underdark, and it's only because Venger was able to intimidate them that they complied with his will.
I could go on, but yes, there's still plenty of story to tell even if Venger was redeemed or permanently killed off in some way.

The last episode of the cartoon never aired so no one knows if our intrepid heroes ever made they way back home to our normal 1980s world and the fandom (largely from Brazil) always speculated that they might have been dead all along and "The Realm" was some sort of afterlife. In the cameo, they get trapped in a cage and Harper guy says "Forget about them, everyone inside of that cage is dead!". I think that was the coolest little detail ever and seems to support the theory that they were, in fact, dead all along.

It's likely just a throwback for nostalgia, but if they do add a Venger statblock, the 5e equivalent of his "arcane fire" will likely be "arcane burst." The kids have been in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting since 2nd Edition. In a single comic book called "Grand Tour of the Realms", which reveals the kids have grown a few years older (Bobby the barbarian is in his pre-teens in that comic book), Presto gets taken on a time traveling tour with Elminster hoping he would teach them how to get back to Earth.
And in the video game Baldur's Gate 2 Shadows of Amn, there are portraits of the Hank, Eric and Presto that can be found in Waukeen's Promenade, and the portraits reveal that Hank, Eric, Bobby, Presto, Sheila and Diana were recently killed by the Forgotten Realms variant of Tiamat.
As you already may know, that turned out to be false, the kids are still alive, AND MORE THAN 100 YEARS LATER INTO THE SAME ERA AS BALDUR'S GATE 3 AND THE MOVIE "HONOR AMONG THIEVES". How is that possible? Recall that Presto learned how to time travel from Elminster. He likely uses that spell to help him and his friends escape from Tiamat into the future, into the 5th Edition era, which would explain why everyone acquainted with them in the 2nd Edition time frame think they are dead.

To understand why he is a Sorcerers, I ponder this question:
Does a Patron Channel magic through him?
Some people can have magical potential unlocked by a greater being, and from that point forward have that ability regardless of what they do. Even if they where to turn against the principles of the creature that unlocked that magical potential, used it directly against them, there is no punishment to be had. Warlocks whom go against their patron quickly find themselves in a dire position, sort of like Paladins, Clerics and other classes that use a Deity of some sort.

I didn't realize how bleak the D&D cartoon's world was. Sure, the kids' interactions with anyone or anything that wasn't trying to kill them was actually pretty rare, but I just assumed they were outside the boundaries of that world's civilization because the Dungeon Master was directing them that way. Not, ya'know, that the world is mostly dead and filled with almost nothing but monsters.

Seems like “the realm” has a potential fit as a Demi plane of dread, similar to ravenloft. Where you are invited in for a need, the big bad(s) make the rules and you can’t leave until they are dealt with.

I'm 26, and this cartoon was part of my childhood here in Brazil. It is very loved here, and it's a source of various memes. fun fact: Venger has a horse that he uses when flying, but the guy has wings and the horse doesn't, so it's a common joke that the guy is actually holding his horse up with his legs

My father had 6 CDs of the D&D show I watched as a kid, good times.

I always figured Tiamat, given she is present over many universes has a brief with 'evil' (Venger's master the 'Nameless One'). Whilst Venger might be a CR 12 to 20 creature, Tiamat is a CR 25 plus creature.

Something to think about in regards to Tiamat that also comes up in Eve of Ruin. She might be evil, and downright hateful, but she created the world with Bahamut. It is here creation just as much as it was his. And she'll be damned again if she lets some upstart lich or demi-fiend destroy it and will gladly side with the forces of good to save her world. It is hers, it is her hoard. She's 1/5th Blue Dragon after all :3
