The Model 12 is awesome as is the RD-8 and RD-9. I like the Model 12 because I can record without a computer then bounce the tracks to a DAW later. Pairing the Model 12 with the TEAC reel to reel is a nice touch-keeping it in the family so to speak with Tascam being owned by TEAC.
Ive been considering buying one for a couple years now and finally decided to. The ability to multitrack record over usb was the major factor. I use Digitakt+Syntakt with Overbridge in a hybrid setup which allows for a massive 20 individual tracks in addition to 2 L/R ins and 2 L/R outs AND effects tracks over usb. I should probably get the Model 24, but that’s out of my price range at the moment.
This is neat. I’m considering one of these so I can reach out to physical knobs and also not be sitting in front of the computer. For the routing, of course any multi input interface will do this. Your computer can do all the routing and you can record all 100+ at the same time. But when you want to reach out and twist a knob instead of clicking the mouse on the computer screen, this is fantastic! Really shows off what the mixer can do.
Is there a video with you running the tascam through the reel to reel? I have a couple Teacs and a nice Revox deck that would be fun to play with like this
I’m tying to figure out how to use an external effect like the Meris LVX together with synths they had stereo output with the Model 12. Any tips for a noob? ☺️
I know this is old but how do the pres sound on the tascam? Never had a mixer and looking at this one as a first but will definitely be a snob when insay i have a higher end interface so don’t want to be disappointed on sound quality. Also noise is another one with preamp hiss and looks like i can run modular into it as some inputs are -10 and other are -20db
Having trouble using the aux & sub outs... I've tried to use them but get no signal. (Also didn't get a signal on my old Tascam 4 track aux either.) But it didn't havr the sub outs. But no sound on the model 12 on the sub outs. 🤷 Also what's the point of doing a stereo mixdown onto the main (11/12) if how you have everything EQ'd isn't going to be reflected on the mixdown???? I did a mixdown like that, but then when some things needed EQ'd, the EQ affected everything & you can't get it EQ'd individually ...so I don't understand the point of doing a mixdown on the unit like that if how you had the EQ settings aren't gonna be on that final mixdown
@Pink Buddha Academy I have a newbie question. Would it make any sense to use the Model 12 (as controller) with something like a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 or is that bone headed redundant? I'm very new to this so any information is much appreciated. Thanks
Very cool thanks for that. I’m trying to work out how to route my Model 12 to my SSL Fusion. Looks like part of your solution will help me. I’m pretty clueless right now….
Great video! I noticed that you are using abelton as well. My audio waves are very low into abelton from my DAW. Is there a post fader setting from USB interface I’m not seeing.
Tnx for the clear video instruction. Got a ? I’m a begginer! I’ve got the tascam 12, Tr8s and sh4d and want to connect and sync them to use all together. How do you do it?
😢 Hi, I have an Akai MPC 61, I replaced the Focusrite interface with a Tascam Model 12 as in the Akai TH-cam videos and I still have crackles in the sound when playing. if I have the Akai internal interface in the audio settings, it's OK - do you have such a problem? How to fix it ?
A little unrelated, but since it's not possible to use the analog features of the mixer with the Force, is it possible to use it as a midi controller for the same controls inside the Force software, while using it as an interface? I need to replace my focusrite 18i8 as it pops and clicks all the time, wondering if this could replace my 2 xone K2's that I use for a mixer as well.
So I was wrong about the analog controls....although you have to decide if you want them to be pre audio into the force. Or if you want to use them to export the sound. If you want to map and control things in the force, you'd just need any midi controller with knobs or sliders. Mario that you what you want
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Thanks for getting back to me! It's good to know you can still utilize the analog mixer. I decided to go with the behringer 1820 as all the mpc forum posts seemed to strangely recommend that over anything else. I like the new behringer synths, but will have to see about the new about interface but it was cheap so it doesn't really hurt if it's not great. If the behringer isn't enough, I'll look to the tascam!
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy Yes. I am using the M12 as an audio interface and I get playback sound from it, while I send instruments to the DAW through it at the same time.
Thanks a lot for your great videos. They helped a lot already. I don't find any videos how to use tascam as an interface to send midi from ableton to external gear like synths etc. Only how to use it to control ableton. But it should be possible somehow, right? Could you do a video about that?
Yeah - it's only for using MIDI with a DAW (like Ableton, Logic, etc.). Otherwise, it's really just functioning as an interface or mixer. If you want to do that, I'd just use a midi controller.
If i can send midi from my scarlett 2i4 you should be able to send midi thru ableton -> tascam -> external synths as well. I just got my tascam but im sure you just make you match midi channels that you are sending from the tascam AND the synth receiving
Hey bro what’s up with your hair? I see this video is a year old so hopefully your hair still doesn’t look like that… but you were a shining example of the tall hair TH-camr trend… people with tall hair get more views I don’t get it 😂😂😂… That shits like buying a Gucci bag to look rich all the wanna be wealthy by them but the people who have real wealth could care less about a expensive handbag… same thing other one of the biggest TH-camrs have high hair but the biggest TH-camrs The individuals that have held or fight to hold the number one spot they don’t have big hair 😂😂😂
Check out how the 808 Loop Kit sounds! bit.ly/808-Loop-Kit
This was the video I was looking for - thank you for the detail!!!
Killer video, really smart routing, thanks for the inspiration!
✌️✌️✌️🍟🍟🍟
I love the way he explains the routing and follows up with the rationale!
Excellent ideas, you have inspired me today 🎉

I def need to get one. It seems to open up possibilities and creativity.

You know...it was just so nice to touch sliders and knobs. AND have it work as an interface
love the inspiration! great video

Totally agree with the knobs!
This video has opened up a few more ideas on how the Tascam may be utilized… thanks.
Sweet! Glad it helped!
I think old Roland drum machines are now officially a cult.
🤣🤣🤣

You certainly could. I just recorded it first, then ran that into the reel to reel.

Really cool bro good job! 👏🏾

Great video. But HOW - how how how - do you get the multitrack back into Live? I cannot figure it out.

Thx a lot for the tricks. But isn't there insert on track 1 & 2 ? I thought It could be used for that
Yes - but inserts are a bit more limiting. They feel more relevant if you need to use lots of tracks.
Having trouble using the aux & sub outs... I've tried to use them but get no signal. (Also didn't get a signal on my old Tascam 4 track aux either.)

I don't think you can use it with another interface like that. If you have the Tascam, you can just use that as the interface.
Very cool thanks for that. I’m trying to work out how to route my Model 12 to my SSL Fusion. Looks like part of your solution will help me. I’m pretty clueless right now….

Hmmm.....maybe? you might just need more input gain
@@PinkBuddhaAcademy that was it!

Hi, it’s been a year? Still the best mixer/audio interface? Can it connect to push 3?
Yeah...it's still epic. You can use it in Ableton, but not as an interface for the Push standalone
