This is the most detailed and helpful tutorial I've seen. Model 12 can only be a MIDI Master Clock, ignoring any MIDI receive. So MPC One can Sync to Model 12 and multi-track-take audio recording can make it easy to sync.
If you can live with Model 12 being master clock and starting and stopping from the it instead of the MPC it shouldn't be a problem recording in the correct measure.
Great video. I went this route for awhile... now I have fully embraced the dark side and just record everything (I use a ton of keys, synths, guitars, etc) into my Mpc. I basically sketch up several sequences and then use the song mode to convert it into a single linear sequence.Sometimes I will just create a single long sequence from start. There are so many great in the box features for the Mpc that once you dedicate yourself to using you will have a-ha moments. I even mix on it now and just export to pc for mastering (for a while did the stem thing). Wish I had committed to this approach a lot sooner. Lately I have been sampling my synths into it and then creating custom keyboard instruments. Never imagined I’d be doing that either, lol.
Dang, I have so much to learn. I want to be doing this, but as my other comment says I’m not understanding the use case for recording into the mpc vs the model 12. Are you multitrack recording all of these things into the mpc at once? I like the song mode idea. I just wish I understood how to use audio tracks. At least I’m not the only one struggling to conceptualize using them on the mpc. I love this box, but I swear it’s one of the most frustrating experiences at times. Of course that makes it very rewarding as well, but learning this machine is really an undertaking like nothing else I have experienced with hardware, steep learning curve.
@@K.KILLORAN the way you want to work really will impact your process. Some ppl using MPC are doing live dawless jams or using that as a starting point. If that is you, then I would go with an approach like the one they are detailing here (I used a digital tascam recorder... but same idea). For me, I felt like there was a lot of post recording editing with this approach to get what I wanted and so I switched completely to working on individual sequences and recording parts one by one in the Mpc. It’s saving me time and for me at least the results are better. There is no right or wrong in my opinion. Hope it helps!
@@sophoninja often I do it that way (if I later don’t like it I chop it and retrigger). I also often use the new Mpc plugins to write the parts initially and once I have them the way I want I change them from using the plug-in to a midi track and send it to hardware for a different sound which I then sample.

Welcome! I love DAWless setups. But I still use Ableton to finish projects. It’s the best of both worlds. Creativity outside the box, finishing/polishing inside the box.
@@TeftyMeems while I have not turned on ableton in 2 years [I use audacity for large files], I still have my steinberg ur44 sitting around here somewhere. You never know when you will need a real DAW. I have MIDI mapp’d my APC40 to the MPC so I can use the knobs/faders to control MPC parameters.
I've got a similar setup, peak, mpc one , arturia keystep pro etc, but have a yamaha mg10xu with USB, but only recognizes one channel, looking to replace with the tascam model 12, so this tutorial is priceless, thanks Tefty.

Holy shit things actually work! This is literally the first video that I was able to get things working properly. I need a splitter so I don't have to swap the USB hub between my computer and the Live 2. Thanks again for the awesome and informative video. Hydrasynth, Microfreak, EP-133(can't figure out how to get midi to the live 2 via USB), and Live 2 all playing nicely now. Very cool!
Thank you for this awesome informative video! I just joined the Akai MPC family. Just an fyi... I was updating the firmware after buying the MPC One and was getting a random static blip when I set up audio over usb about every 5-6 seconds. If I connected the MPC One to my mixer with the audio cables, the static blip went away. I assumed my MPC One's usb port was faulty, so I took it back and exchanged it for another unit. When I got home, the same thing happened after I updated to the latest firmware. Turns out, I think what happened was that someone leaked a v2.11.6 firmware update on the Akai website (not sure if this was intentional or not), but I decided "what the heck, let me try going down to the v2.11.4 firmware update". That did it! Then I could enjoy following along with the rest of your video. Thank you for providing clarity and being such a good teacher.
Ive been getting in deeeeeep in my midi control and hardware routing and nobody has a good explanation , i was waiting for a video explaining this stuff in more details...glad its you because you are by far the most meticulous and detailed...

You can set the Model 12 to record post-eq per track as well - it's in Menu -> Mixer -> MTR/USB SEND POINT. Just flip each track to Post-EQ. It's all pre-fade for levels, pans, and effects tho.
@Derek Fleetham you can fade with the fader - it just won't record for the individual multitrack channels. If you want to record your fades in realtime, it can only be done with the master channel recording. This is pretty standard for mixers with direct outs/multitrack. The idea is that in a live environment, you'll process/eq and adjust levels for the room and for the show, but if you want to have a live recording optimized for listening, you can take the stems and re-do the EQ/automation/levels for a proper mixdown in a studio.
@@terencetso1025 I just bought this mixer. Is there ANY way possible, to record the multi tracks into Ableton with the mix I did on the board itself? Example, (Pan left/Right, EQ, Faders etc) it just comes into Ableton as dry. I have been told by one TH-camr that this is not possible and because this Mixer is strictly digital it can only record the Mix into the SD card ONLY. Is there any workaround so Ableton can record my tracks with what I did know the mixer?
@@GoldynChyld nope the only workaround is to solo each track and record from the master one at a time. The model 12 is not set up to record multitrack for post fader, or post pan and only records those changes to the master bus. You essentially have 2 choices - record pre-everything (including turning off post eq and post compression track recording), record to ableton, and then route your ableton channels back to the model 12 keeping your settings where they were, and then mix down directly on the mixer The other option is to record your stems and maybe the eq and compression settings you like, get those into ableton, and then re-level/pan your ableton tracks within ableton (can probably use daw control mode for that). Then you can sum/mix in ableton itself.
@@terencetso1025 Appreciate the info bro. I will say this, this is such a quality, nice mixer for the price. The fact that they didn’t program this device to do such a basic task such as using it as analog on top of digital really mind boggles me. However, I will just make it work for the 8 channel multitrack which was my main goal using an MPC and the 8 outputs anyways. Just thought that extra freedom to pre-mix on the board before sending to DAW would’ve added some extra fun work flow. When you mentioned sending the channels from Ableton back to the board to mix, what are the prompts on doing that? And even if that is an option, I’m guessing the tracks from Ableton back to the board would then have to be recorded to the SD card, correct? I’m trying to avoid the internal recording work flow to SD. Never been used to tracking that way. Or maybe I should give it a chance and get past the learning curve of using the Tascam’s internal multi track recording. I don’t know lol. What do you think of the SD recording?
Fantastic video as always, Tefty! Couple of things: for your viewers, it’s actually 44.1 KHz required (not “44”). Also, the 8 stereo audio tracks in standalone are capped at 4:59 in length. You hit 5 minutes and try to save your Project, and your recording will get dumped or truncated to 4:59 (can’t remember which). Until disc-streaming makes an appearance (hopefully someday sooner rather than later) that’s also a massive limitation for audio tracks in standalone.
Are those 4:59 tracks limited by the Model 12 or MPC? I am researching gear for a use similar to this video. Not sure 4:59 is a limitation I want to be stuck with.
After viewing a few of your vids(and sub'd), I'd like to say what I like most about your vids is how methodical you are, that really resonates with me. We must explore permutations because under one or two are special prizes, lol. I've also learned more from you than other vids from 'mpc experts'. I was frustrated with the mpc workflow and bought a force, and I decided to sell the mpc live, that very day akai sent the 'oh hey, yeah, there is a pretty severe update or whatever, just sayin', that was the 2.1 update. And after force update, I'm just keeping both. (smaug swimming thru a room full of gear)
This will be my new setup! I already have the MPC Ren but it died on me and have been trying to decide between the One and the Live. I want to get away from being tethered to a PC and make use of my hardware synths so this was extremely helpful.
Live 2 is great! Extra outputs, speakers, and the battery. One has a smaller footprint and basically does the same thing ( with more buttons ). Paired with a Model 12 you can't go wrong 👍

This has been really helpful. I’m actually a Maschine (MKII) user but I’m looking at a move to MPC at the moment - although I’ve never been a fan of Akai’s program workflow - that appears to be discontinued in the V3 software to a far simpler (actually more Maschine-like) workflow.
Amazing video… all of them are really. I’d put you right up there with Loopop or Red Means Recording. Great info, delivered in a smooth, calm and concise manner. And musical! So many videos out there where the info might be useful but they are using awful sounds. You didn’t record to a DAW but if I understand correctly, this mixer can be used to multi-track to a DAW? Right now I use an Mackie VLZ4 and run the output into Apogee Duet, recording each track one at a time. This mixer could replace the Mackie and Duet as an all in one solution and record all (or most of my tracks) in one pass? You get loads of comments so I don’t know how many say the same but I’d love to see how you use the sends and inserts on this mixer. With everything running in and out through USB, how would someone add effects outside of the built in effects? And speaking of effects, it would be interesting to know which effects on the MPC are your favorites. I have been using an all Elektron setup for the past 4 years and so there are only a few effects to even think about. I’ve recently purchased a Live 2 and there are so many effects… some decent, some not… or maybe I’m not seeing there potential. Lastly… do you know if it’s possible to make the Elektron boxes change patterns when switching a sequence on the MPC Live 2? Sorry, that was a lot… At any rate, I appreciate all the amazing information you pass on. Thank you!
Oh man your tip about using clips and chopping them is very nice/useful! I have been using audio tracks and it as you say: it is very annoying workflow wise because on every screen no matter if you use track mutes or if you want to mix or whatever audio recording are on a different tab. I have been using audio tracks for voice recordings but i will try the sample and see if that feels better somehow.
Really love your videos. You have a very earnest, humble and honest presentation style which is very pleasant to watch. Found you while deliberating between different mixers for a home dawless rig and you've really helped isolate the Model 12 as the correct choice for me. ✌️
Hey I didn’t read the comments-they might have provided a better solution. But something I use to do on mpc 1000 to work around the 4 bar limit u were talking about with audio recordings. U loop in ur 12 bar sample-within the 4 bar sequence. And it Reloop after the 4th bar. Yo avoid this--As soon as 12 bar sample starts in 4 bar sequence-I would mute the 12 bar track. So it wouldn’t Reloop after 4 bars-but it still plays out the entire 12 bars(how ever long the solo is) over the 4 bar sequence without relooping. Pretty sure I did that with mpc live before lockdown often. Sample in a one minute solo from my synth. But use it in an 8 bar sequence. By muting it after first loop. Hope that helps some. Dope vids-I appreciate the knowledge u drop.

Yes. Yes. Yes. This is close to the type of setup I e been thinking about investing in. I’ve been looking for a backup dawless sequencer solution to go with my Jupiter Xm. MPC One for the win. And the Tascam Model 12 has soooooo many different abilities. Very impressive little mixer. I currently use a Behringer XR18 for live performance for my key rig. I miss faders and knobs + having multi track recording simultaneously is huge. Model 12 for the win.
@@jeremymoore2835 i like the Jupiter Xm. Roland’s new “scene” approach takes a bit of learning but the included models are dead on. It’s a very deep little beast with so many layers. And not just the sounds, Bluetooth flexibility, usb audio/midi interface, battery powered, and decent onboard speakers for mobile convenience.
Your tutorials are freaking awesome!! I have a MPC one plus,and I got a 2 channel q12 mixer/audio interface with phantom 48. I should be able to connect my q12 mixer interface with the mpc one plus? Oh man, I'm new to mpcs and standalone DAW's. I'm a Native instruments fan,so my Maschine Mk3 and the flawless DAW with my Ableton has been laying down some HEAT!! I hope I'm not disappointed
I used the Tascam Model 16 with the MPC. It was good but I switched to a Behringer X32 with a X-live card a month ago. The routing capabilities of the X32 are brilliant. And the recording is more advanced than in the Tascam. I can recommend to have a closer look to the X32.

Thank you for the detailed walk-through and information! I am looking to buy a multi-channel mixer/interface for recording synths, and so far the Model 12 is on the top of my list.
Instead of using a USB mixer as my MPC audio interface, I use a regular mixer with my MPC connected to the "Group 1-2" output. That way I can have a completely analog jam, while sampling any inputs I want by sending them to the Group bus.
Awesome…. I’m returning my Onyx 16 today and ordering the Model 12. I think the 12 is the best choice out of the 16 or 24 cause of the digital pre and post options. I can’t believe the Mackie won’t record separate tracks. I’m gonna paint the Model 12 all black unless I find some skins for it…. Those colors make me nauseous….. Lol. You can use MTC on the model 12 and have the Mpc receive it and send out a midi clock. Only caveat is you need to use the play or record on the m12 to have everything start. The m12 can then receive the midi clock over usb and send it out the midi ports on the m12 for anything connected to it
Another super terrific video and I certainly agree with the last 2 comments. .So I've been running this setup for the last week with an X and a Tascam Model 12. I both love it and hate it. Love that I have more ins and outs but certainly not as straightforward or simple as grabbing ideas in the MPC. I'm also noticing more "noise/hum" from both guitar and mic when going through the Tascam v plugging direct into the MPC.

I have several construction sites though, I'm an absolute beginner, musically rather underground, but I still started to play with a synthesizer. started with korg minilogue xd, arturia drum brute impact and presonus interface. I recently bought a starter set from ae modular. a very interesting way to work with synthesizers. but far from your professional style. I think it will be a rocky road for me. Your music accompanies me on my car tours. really, really good, inspiring music.
Excellent!!! Next purchase! I use the looper a lot to. This way... record audio ,export to sample and assign to pad. Hit keep then use step sequencer (step 1) to trigger pad in timeeeeeee. Thanks for your time!!
Actually, I find the Mpc midi clock out having too much latency to effectively use the looper for recording synced sequences from other synths or (certainly) drummachines. There's a like a 15 to 20 ms lag. (Silence in the beginning of the looper). Also tested this by recording both mpc output and xtra drummchine in ableton and comparing them in the timeline. I have better/tighter results by using old redsound audio to midi conversion hardware or a korg sq1 to convert cv clock to midi clock.
Hey I’m sorry I’m only a couple weeks into the MPC One and I came across a issue when I record audio from Imac going through audio interface I will get a feedback when I click the “In” button on audio track. Also when I don’t engage the “In” button I will get a recording but I will get a full recording of any other tracks plus metro into my audio recording. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say and thank you for your help.

I recently got a Nord Wave 2 and the MPC ONE, haven’t barely scratched the surface. And now the Tascam M12 - thanks to you 😉. What would be the optimal cable routings in your opinion in between all three devices? I guess I need a USB hub also 🤔
Great video - thanks ! I have been using this set up since the MPC one audio interface update, rarely use my computer for music production now. You can record the stereo mix Tascam channels 11/12 back into the MPC for mastering (just make sure the 11/12 is soloed and manually armed to avoid feed back) now thinking of upgrading to a Tascam model 24 !
So how are you capturing audio from the Peak and Model D into the Tascam? At 13:47 you state you cannot send the audio from the synths. What did I miss?

to be clear- when you finished your mix at 41:00, you then saud "it doesn't record the fader movement, eq etc" but what I think you mean is that *it did record that mixing stuff* but just into the stereo mix, and NOT on each individual track.. correct? because obviously your mix w the faders, etc WAS recorded.. otherwise what were you then exporting as a stereo mix?
This video was a while ago, but I *think* I said fader automation not being recorded into individual tracks. Yes, the mixdown gets all the movements live 👍

thank you for the video, my next purchase is the ESI M4U eX | 8-port USB 3.0 MIDI interface so that i can use the MPC One as my main piece of kit and then connect my Korg Wavestate and Roland JD-Xi Synth via the ESI all audio from the MPC One, Wavestate and JD-Xi to a mixer
Great video, I learned a lot. My primary music creation tool is a Korg Nautilus, but I hate using the small touch screen for EQing, FXs, and sequencing. Would I be able to run my Korg through the Tascam model 12 and use it to layer tracks and song composition vs. using the on-board Korg sequencer?

The Midi Sync of the MPC can be very frustrating with some gear. I haven't testet to setup the Model 12 as a Master Clock.

Did you use usb from mpc to tascam or audio outs?
@@sawssman965 I've used both methods. USB is nice. You have to go into menu>preferences>audio device>select Model 12, saves inputs. Hope that helps

while I have not turned on ableton in 2 years [I use audacity for large files], I still have my steinberg ur44 sitting around here somewhere. You never know when you will need a real DAW. I have MIDI mapp’d my APC40 to the MPC so I can use the knobs/faders to control MPC parameters.

I've got a similar setup, peak, mpc one , arturia keystep pro etc, but have a yamaha mg10xu with USB, but only recognizes one channel, looking to replace with the tascam model 12, so this tutorial is priceless, thanks Tefty.

Holy shit things actually work! This is literally the first video that I was able to get things working properly. I need a splitter so I don't have to swap the USB hub between my computer and the Live 2. Thanks again for the awesome and informative video. Hydrasynth, Microfreak, EP-133(can't figure out how to get midi to the live 2 via USB), and Live 2 all playing nicely now. Very cool!

Thank you for this awesome informative video! I just joined the Akai MPC family. Just an fyi... I was updating the firmware after buying the MPC One and was getting a random static blip when I set up audio over usb about every 5-6 seconds. If I connected the MPC One to my mixer with the audio cables, the static blip went away. I assumed my MPC One's usb port was faulty, so I took it back and exchanged it for another unit. When I got home, the same thing happened after I updated to the latest firmware. Turns out, I think what happened was that someone leaked a v2.11.6 firmware update on the Akai website (not sure if this was intentional or not), but I decided "what the heck, let me try going down to the v2.11.4 firmware update". That did it! Then I could enjoy following along with the rest of your video. Thank you for providing clarity and being such a good teacher.

You can set the Model 12 to record post-eq per track as well - it's in Menu -> Mixer -> MTR/USB SEND POINT. Just flip each track to Post-EQ. It's all pre-fade for levels, pans, and effects tho.
@Derek Fleetham you can fade with the fader - it just won't record for the individual multitrack channels. If you want to record your fades in realtime, it can only be done with the master channel recording.
This is pretty standard for mixers with direct outs/multitrack. The idea is that in a live environment, you'll process/eq and adjust levels for the room and for the show, but if you want to have a live recording optimized for listening, you can take the stems and re-do the EQ/automation/levels for a proper mixdown in a studio.
@@terencetso1025 I just bought this mixer. Is there ANY way possible, to record the multi tracks into Ableton with the mix I did on the board itself? Example, (Pan left/Right, EQ, Faders etc) it just comes into Ableton as dry. I have been told by one TH-camr that this is not possible and because this Mixer is strictly digital it can only record the Mix into the SD card ONLY. Is there any workaround so Ableton can record my tracks with what I did know the mixer?
@@GoldynChyld nope the only workaround is to solo each track and record from the master one at a time.
The model 12 is not set up to record multitrack for post fader, or post pan and only records those changes to the master bus.
You essentially have 2 choices - record pre-everything (including turning off post eq and post compression track recording), record to ableton, and then route your ableton channels back to the model 12 keeping your settings where they were, and then mix down directly on the mixer
The other option is to record your stems and maybe the eq and compression settings you like, get those into ableton, and then re-level/pan your ableton tracks within ableton (can probably use daw control mode for that). Then you can sum/mix in ableton itself.
@@terencetso1025 Appreciate the info bro. I will say this, this is such a quality, nice mixer for the price. The fact that they didn’t program this device to do such a basic task such as using it as analog on top of digital really mind boggles me. However, I will just make it work for the 8 channel multitrack which was my main goal using an MPC and the 8 outputs anyways. Just thought that extra freedom to pre-mix on the board before sending to DAW would’ve added some extra fun work flow. When you mentioned sending the channels from Ableton back to the board to mix, what are the prompts on doing that? And even if that is an option, I’m guessing the tracks from Ableton back to the board would then have to be recorded to the SD card, correct? I’m trying to avoid the internal recording work flow to SD. Never been used to tracking that way. Or maybe I should give it a chance and get past the learning curve of using the Tascam’s internal multi track recording. I don’t know lol. What do you think of the SD recording?

Fantastic video as always, Tefty! Couple of things: for your viewers, it’s actually 44.1 KHz required (not “44”). Also, the 8 stereo audio tracks in standalone are capped at 4:59 in length. You hit 5 minutes and try to save your Project, and your recording will get dumped or truncated to 4:59 (can’t remember which). Until disc-streaming makes an appearance (hopefully someday sooner rather than later) that’s also a massive limitation for audio tracks in standalone.
Are those 4:59 tracks limited by the Model 12 or MPC? I am researching gear for a use similar to this video. Not sure 4:59 is a limitation I want to be stuck with.

After viewing a few of your vids(and sub'd), I'd like to say what I like most about your vids is how methodical you are, that really resonates with me. We must explore permutations because under one or two are special prizes, lol. I've also learned more from you than other vids from 'mpc experts'. I was frustrated with the mpc workflow and bought a force, and I decided to sell the mpc live, that very day akai sent the 'oh hey, yeah, there is a pretty severe update or whatever, just sayin', that was the 2.1 update. And after force update, I'm just keeping both. (smaug swimming thru a room full of gear)
This will be my new setup! I already have the MPC Ren but it died on me and have been trying to decide between the One and the Live. I want to get away from being tethered to a PC and make use of my hardware synths so this was extremely helpful.
Live 2 is great! Extra outputs, speakers, and the battery. One has a smaller footprint and basically does the same thing ( with more buttons ). Paired with a Model 12 you can't go wrong 👍

I’m actually a Maschine (MKII) user but I’m looking at a move to MPC at the moment - although I’ve never been a fan of Akai’s program workflow - that appears to be discontinued in the V3 software to a far simpler (actually more Maschine-like) workflow.
Amazing video… all of them are really. I’d put you right up there with Loopop or Red Means Recording. Great info, delivered in a smooth, calm and concise manner. And musical! So many videos out there where the info might be useful but they are using awful sounds.
You didn’t record to a DAW but if I understand correctly, this mixer can be used to multi-track to a DAW? Right now I use an Mackie VLZ4 and run the output into Apogee Duet, recording each track one at a time. This mixer could replace the Mackie and Duet as an all in one solution and record all (or most of my tracks) in one pass?
You get loads of comments so I don’t know how many say the same but I’d love to see how you use the sends and inserts on this mixer. With everything running in and out through USB, how would someone add effects outside of the built in effects?
And speaking of effects, it would be interesting to know which effects on the MPC are your favorites. I have been using an all Elektron setup for the past 4 years and so there are only a few effects to even think about. I’ve recently purchased a Live 2 and there are so many effects… some decent, some not… or maybe I’m not seeing there potential.
Lastly… do you know if it’s possible to make the Elektron boxes change patterns when switching a sequence on the MPC Live 2?

Oh man your tip about using clips and chopping them is very nice/useful! I have been using audio tracks and it as you say: it is very annoying workflow wise because on every screen no matter if you use track mutes or if you want to mix or whatever audio recording are on a different tab. I have been using audio tracks for voice recordings but i will try the sample and see if that feels better somehow.

I didn’t read the comments-they might have provided a better solution. But something I use to do on mpc 1000 to work around the 4 bar limit u were talking about with audio recordings.
U loop in ur 12 bar sample-within the 4 bar sequence. And it Reloop after the 4th bar.
Yo avoid this--As soon as 12 bar sample starts in 4 bar sequence-I would mute the 12 bar track. So it wouldn’t Reloop after 4 bars-but it still plays out the entire 12 bars(how ever long the solo is) over the 4 bar sequence without relooping.
Pretty sure I did that with mpc live before lockdown often. Sample in a one minute solo from my synth. But use it in an 8 bar sequence. By muting it after first loop. Hope that helps some.

I’ve been looking for a backup dawless sequencer solution to go with my Jupiter Xm. MPC One for the win. And the Tascam Model 12 has soooooo many different abilities. Very impressive little mixer. I currently use a Behringer XR18 for live performance for my key rig. I miss faders and knobs + having multi track recording simultaneously is huge. Model 12 for the win.

@@jeremymoore2835 i like the Jupiter Xm. Roland’s new “scene” approach takes a bit of learning but the included models are dead on. It’s a very deep little beast with so many layers. And not just the sounds, Bluetooth flexibility, usb audio/midi interface, battery powered, and decent onboard speakers for mobile convenience.

Your tutorials are freaking awesome!! I have a MPC one plus,and I got a 2 channel q12 mixer/audio interface with phantom 48. I should be able to connect my q12 mixer interface with the mpc one plus? Oh man, I'm new to mpcs and standalone DAW's. I'm a Native instruments fan,so my Maschine Mk3 and the flawless DAW with my Ableton has been laying down some HEAT!! I hope I'm not disappointed
I used the Tascam Model 16 with the MPC. It was good but I switched to a Behringer X32 with a X-live card a month ago. The routing capabilities of the X32 are brilliant. And the recording is more advanced than in the Tascam. I can recommend to have a closer look to the X32.

Thanks I just received the model 12 and was trying to figure out how to connect it with the live 2.
Instead of using a USB mixer as my MPC audio interface, I use a regular mixer with my MPC connected to the "Group 1-2" output. That way I can have a completely analog jam, while sampling any inputs I want by sending them to the Group bus.
The mixers and even the MPC gives a better midtown for mastering than any Daw or computer.

Awesome…. I’m returning my Onyx 16 today and ordering the Model 12. I think the 12 is the best choice out of the 16 or 24 cause of the digital pre and post options. I can’t believe the Mackie won’t record separate tracks. I’m gonna paint the Model 12 all black unless I find some skins for it…. Those colors make me nauseous….. Lol. You can use MTC on the model 12 and have the Mpc receive it and send out a midi clock. Only caveat is you need to use the play or record on the m12 to have everything start. The m12 can then receive the midi clock over usb and send it out the midi ports on the m12 for anything connected to it
I've done this too. And then you can overdub more MPC stuff, drum machines etc onto the Model 12, synced via MIDI. Living the dream!

It would be a great help to see how the usb cables and hub connect to everything: synths, controller, mixer, mpc, etc.
Just plug everything you have (synths, controller, mixer...) into the USB hub and connect the hub to your MPC! Hope that helps!

Another super terrific video and I certainly agree with the last 2 comments. .So I've been running this setup for the last week with an X and a Tascam Model 12. I both love it and hate it. Love that I have more ins and outs but certainly not as straightforward or simple as grabbing ideas in the MPC. I'm also noticing more "noise/hum" from both guitar and mic when going through the Tascam v plugging direct into the MPC.

I have several construction sites though, I'm an absolute beginner, musically rather underground, but I still started to play with a synthesizer. started with korg minilogue xd, arturia drum brute impact and presonus interface. I recently bought a starter set from ae modular. a very interesting way to work with synthesizers. but far from your professional style. I think it will be a rocky road for me. Your music accompanies me on my car tours. really, really good, inspiring music.
Excellent!!! Next purchase! I use the looper a lot to. This way... record audio ,export to sample and assign to pad. Hit keep then use step sequencer (step 1) to trigger pad in timeeeeeee. Thanks for your time!!

Actually, I find the Mpc midi clock out having too much latency to effectively use the looper for recording synced sequences from other synths or (certainly) drummachines.
There's a like a 15 to 20 ms lag. (Silence in the beginning of the looper).
Also tested this by recording both mpc output and xtra drummchine in ableton and comparing them in the timeline.
I have better/tighter results by using old redsound audio to midi conversion hardware or
a korg sq1 to convert cv clock to midi clock.

Hey I’m sorry I’m only a couple weeks into the MPC One and I came across a issue when I record audio from Imac going through audio interface I will get a feedback when I click the “In” button on audio track. Also when I don’t engage the “In” button I will get a recording but I will get a full recording of any other tracks plus metro into my audio recording. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say and thank you for your help.

You can record the stereo mix Tascam channels 11/12 back into the MPC for mastering (just make sure the 11/12 is soloed and manually armed to avoid feed back) now thinking of upgrading to a Tascam model 24 !

to be clear- when you finished your mix at 41:00, you then saud "it doesn't record the fader movement, eq etc" but what I think you mean is that *it did record that mixing stuff* but just into the stereo mix, and NOT on each individual track.. correct? because obviously your mix w the faders, etc WAS recorded.. otherwise what were you then exporting as a stereo mix?
This video was a while ago, but I *think* I said fader automation not being recorded into individual tracks. Yes, the mixdown gets all the movements live 👍

thank you for the video, my next purchase is the ESI M4U eX | 8-port USB 3.0 MIDI interface so that i can use the MPC One as my main piece of kit and then connect my Korg Wavestate and Roland JD-Xi Synth via the ESI all audio from the MPC One, Wavestate and JD-Xi to a mixer
Great video, I learned a lot. My primary music creation tool is a Korg Nautilus, but I hate using the small touch screen for EQing, FXs, and sequencing. Would I be able to run my Korg through the Tascam model 12 and use it to layer tracks and song composition vs. using the on-board Korg sequencer?
