I always let my vet sort my dog's medical issues out rather than having a go at amateur veterinary treatment. I'd be terrified of rupturing a gland, which is a very nasty thing to happen and can, at best, result in the surgical removal of the gland, which can, in turn, lead to incontinence.
I'm big on Home remedies & treatments, as well as prevention - so now that I know she has the problem, I want to know ways to prevent, and then also treat it. My dog is around 14 and in otherwise good health, but this is a problem & I'm glad to see you verify some of my solutions to preventing & treating it. VERY useful and sensible video!! THANK YOU SO V. Great information. I noticed anal gland swelling within the past 2 years with Butterscotch who is now 8 years old. I don’t feed her soft foods, her poop is and has always been solid 2x/day. I usually take her to the vet technician to get them expressed [not frequently but more than in the past]. The vet has expressed her to lose 2-3 lbs and to start controlling her weight- she’s 8 yo, Shihtzu/Yorkie mix, weighing 19 lbs. This video helped me with some ideas to help her- more exercise, lose those 2-3 lbs and keep her at that weight, add omega fatty acids and the next time I take her to get her glands expressed ask what the consistency looks like.

My dog is a bigger dog pit mix an he has to go once a month or every other month 😫he HATES going to the vet although he’s a very good while inside but it stresses me out. Thanks for the video tho I have new ideas as far as his diet 👍 more fiber maybe less chicken..
My dog is a German Shepard and has had this problem for years she is 10 now I’ve always taken her the vet . They empty the glans and it’s ok for 3/4 months the vet has told me to worm her more often as that may help I will let you no if it does

It swelled and then got angry and red and ruptured overnight before I could get him in to the vet the next day. I felt so awful for him!!! He was in so much pain!! The vets in our area will not do on call over the weekend and I only found one with actual weekend hours. I had to take him to a vet that was not his own vet, but he really needed help. He is on antibiotics and a pain pill right now.

@@TheWanderwai ❤️ My dog is fully recovered. He was only on the pain pills the first 24 hours. He had all his energy back and didn’t act like he was in pain after that. It has been about a month and the only sign of his ordeal is that the fur on his bum has not fully grown back in. He lost the fur on the whole area that was swollen. I hope your dog recovers quickly!!! They truly are a part of our families and it really hurts to see them in pain.

I highly recommend for every dog owner to give your dog a whole pill (half for smaller dogs) of stomach enzymes with probiotics and prebiotics once a day and I want to say the tablets are like $12 at Walmart. My dogs will take them atraight out of my hand as they enjoy the taste. Fish oil with omega 3 & 6 are good but I think they recommend vitamin E with it Dogs on fish oil may benefit from adding vitamin E. The polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish oil that are so good for your dog can deplete vitamin E stores over time.Mar 22, 2023 I supplement garlic capsules and add coconut oil to there foods as well. I've replaced pancreas and liver prescribed pills with supplements on 2 older dachshunds so just do your research people! Just watch the dose and dont so it everyday. And trust me, they will thank you!

She's the only dog I've ever known that is not a good eater. I tried pumpkin supplements and she hates them. It's hard enough to get her to eat anything. She loves her Nature Naws and marrow bones (from the butcher). I've had to have her expressed every month and at times 2 x a month. I hate it because she screams like a little girl. I was feeding her beef tripe mixed in her Science diet (Utlamino) because she dislikes the dry food. Now I'm trying Farmer's Dog. I'm at my wits end. Thank you for your video! I will try to relieve her with warm compacts., but she hates anyone around her butt. Sasha will only tolerate me grooming her butt area when she's very tired (after long walk).

So, I took my boy in and it was a glad. Not bad though. He came out literally skipping!!🤣 She told me to give him white rice and boiled chicken breast for a while and to gradually start back with his food after his bowels got better. They did with the antibiotics and diarrhea med. He has been fine now so that was great info!! Thank You🥰🥰
My dog is unable to walk properly due to anul gland swelling and he starts shivering sometimes and he is take his open leg up while walking how long it take for a dog to get recovered because he keeps on crying.

Thanks ! We have been fighting this problem with our Malte-Poo for many years now. Manual expression is completed when she is suffering, but we have found that giving her pumpkin (the ground up pumpkin meat with no seeds - think pumpkin pie filling without sugar) mixed together with Hill’s Science dry dog food really helps and acts as a preventative measure. My husband has commented that the malodorous liquid that is generated by the dog’s anal glands smells just like “Old DemonCrap”. It’s like Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden with a little Hunter “Pederast” Biden mixed in. Let’s Go Brandon / FJB

Sit her in a warm bath water once a day for 5 minutes it helps a lot and give her more fiber
