    Nice Tutorial. Laser replacement in the 50001 is different than the 30001 models.

      You are right, but both use the same laser assembly so if you have a donor 30000 model and a working 50000 or vice versa you can use the same laser for both which is a good thing.

    thanks for the guide, the ifixit guide was next to useless for me
    and i wasn't even aware of the need to desolder a blob, would've missed this if it weren't for you specifically explaining that

    Can the laser pots be adjustedlike on the 30001 model if it is only playing dvd but not cd or playing cd but not dvd?

    • @RetroGamingWithHopper
      @RetroGamingWithHopper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they can, a lot of times that's all you have do is just adjust the pots. But some times you just can't get them adjusted and you have to change the laser.

    I put a cheap KHS-400C in my 50001 model and the lens changer did nothing. Where can I find the HD7 lens? My original one ripped the pads off for the ribbon connector when I was servicing my console (dead CMOS battery and lots of dust).

    Any idea why the laser makes a whining and clicking sound? That’s what happens with mine before and after I replaced it

    • @SubzeroYoutube
      @SubzeroYoutube 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well it physically moves along a track, maybe it just needs a bit of mechanical grease.

    • @freddurst5277
      @freddurst5277 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SubzeroTH-cam I’ve never thought of that! The track has already been greased but it might be starting to get dried up. The other thing I’ve been thinking about is just straight up replacing the laser assembly itself, since the flexible metal part that moves the laser around seems to be off balance, and partly because that’s the only other thing it could be.

    I replace the power board on mine and the power bottom 12pin flex cable, and still no power is coming on? The model is 50001/N. Any idea what else it could be wrong?

    • @RetroGamingWithHopper
      @RetroGamingWithHopper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, just a shot in the dark. Did you put it all back together? if so make sure you didn't run the screw through your ribbon cable. Check the on-off switch on the back and where the cord plugs in. The best thing to do is start at the wall check your cord and move to the on-off switch on the back.

      All of that was tested with a tester, it's all good.
      The flat cable was damage by whoever opens the lid before.
      I was getting 11.83 v on the power board before, I replace it for a new Chinese one. Now getting 12.15 v
      Also replace the flax wire , and still not getting any lights on the buttons.

      @@cfoster8706 Without it in front of me I might be asking some stupid questions. If I was working on it I would reseat the ribbon cable from the on-off switch and where it plugs into the power board. That little cable may look like it's all the way in but may not be.

    I just replaced my laser with a Sony KHS-400C (that's what was inside it). Now all I get is a laser that moves and tries to read a disk but never gives a disk read error in the browser. Any ideas on what else I'm missing?
    The disks play just fine in another PS2.

    • @RetroGamingWithHopper
      @RetroGamingWithHopper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you un-solder the little blob of solder on the laser? That is for shipping and to protect it from static electricity.

      I'll try that. I saw the laser bounce up and down and flash red like its trying to read with the cover off and the drive clamp on a disk.

    • @RetroGamingWithHopper
      @RetroGamingWithHopper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't remove the antistatic solder the laser will not work. That spot is to protect the laser until installed.
